Trigun Fan Fiction ❯ Humanity: Torn Between Loving It and Hating It ❯ Intimacy ( Chapter 9 )
Kale mumbled something when the morning sun filled the room. She scrunched up her face and snuggled closer against the soft warmth lying next to her. She didn't know it was Knives that, with his arms wrapped around her, was sleeping peacefully next to her.
Kale suddenly stretched out, her good elbow connecting to Knives's jaw. He grunted at the sudden rude awakening and gripped his face. He ran a hand over his eyes and down his face. When he opened his eyes and stared a head of him, he met a pair of sleepy, gray eyes.
Kale and Knives stared at each other for a moment, trying to get their brains to function. Their eyes widened to the size of baseballs and the both bolted up right at the same time only to shout in pain, grip their hands and fall back again.
"Human, explain why you're in my bed?!" Knives hissed, wincing at the raw throbbing of a headache.
"Hell if I know!" Kale hissed back. After a few minutes of moaning and moving around restlessly from the huge hangovers, they sat up again and flung the covers off and looked themselves over to make sure their clothes were still on. They both out a little sighed in relief then glared at one another out of the corner of their eyes.
Suddenly they gripped their stomachs, their faces turning a sickly green color. They looked at each other again then jumped off the bed and charged for the bathroom. Knives made it to the toilet and Kale got to the sink.
The retching didn't seem it would ever stop. Kale started coughing and made a noise, between a groan and an uh-oh. Knives, who was laying his head on his arms, looked up at the woman beside him, annoyance crossing his handsome features.
"What is it, human?" he bit out. He was still shaken up that he had gotten so drunk that he allowed the human to sleep in his bed and he had his ARMS around her! He shuddered.
"Oh . . . man, Knives. When this is over, you're gunna have to do some major plumbing," she snickered. Knives turned green again and turned his head to throw up what he had never remembered eating. Kale snickered some more and watched when the noise started to get to her. She started gagging and turned her head to mimic Knives.

"Have a nice sleep you two?" Meryl said, a sly smile touching her lips as the two sickly pale people staggered into the kitchen. Vash had his forehead on the table, moaning and groaning.
"Shut up or I'll . . . I'll . . . ah screw it. You aren't worth my precious time," Knives growled.
"But it seemed Kale was," Meryl said, smirking. A heated blush ran over their faces and they glared at the short woman.
"NOTHING HAPPENED!!" they shouted then pulled out their chairs, sat down and slammed their foreheads down on the table, imitating Vash, without the sound effects.
Meryl rolled her eyes as she fried some eggs, "Right."
Milly came into the kitchen mumbling her hello's and sat next to Vash and Kale. She looked at them oddly, blinking. She shrugged and grabbed the newspaper and started searching for the comics.
Kale suddenly stood up and walked out, suddenly feeling sick again. She was right at the stairs when someone knocked at the door, she groaned and trudged over to it calling back to the others, "I got it!"
She opened the door and, not even looking up, mumbled, "Yes?"
"Oh, uh, I thought this was the Thomson residence," a male voice said sheepishly. She waved her hand and looked up. Black shoes, pants, shirt, white cuffs with little crosses on them, small whiskers sticking from his chin, dark glasses the slid down his nose when he looked down, deep gray-black eyes, and black hair. Nice.
"It is. I'm a friend staying here. You need something?"
"Um, yeah, I'm looking for Milly Thomson. Is she here?" Kale nodded and turned to call out for Milly.
"You look kinda bad," the man observed as they waited. Kale mumbled, "You would too if you escaped a burning building by a hair, moved in with a psycho, got shot in the shoulder, downed nearly ten beers, and ended up waking up in the arms of the man you hate with a major hangover."
The man laughed and said, "You mean Vash the Stampede is here?" Kale blinked, a little surprised.
"Yeah, but I was referring to his egotistic brother, Knives." She saw the man pale slightly and he pointed a finger at her.
"Wait, let me get this straight. Knives, Millions Knives, the guy who hates all humans for the stupidest reasons, is living HERE?!" She looked at him.
"Yeah. Gosh, how do you know so much about him?"
"Well I-"
"M-mister P-Priest?" A small, child-like voice whispered from behind Kale. The man looked up and a slow smile etched its way onto his mouth. Kale turned slightly and saw Milly standing there, trembling with wide, tear-filled eyes.
"Hey, big girl." Kale stepped away just as Milly flung herself at the man. Kale watched in complete shock.
"Um . . .?" She said.
"Milly? Who is it?!" Meryl came walking out and dropped the spatula she had been using to flip pancakes.
"W-Wolfwood?!"
"WOLFWOOD?!!!" Knives and Vash shouted from the kitchen and dashed out to see for themselves. Knives only scowled while Vash started crying like a fool and ran up and hugged the man and spun him around.
"Ack! Needle-Noggin, put me down, damnit!" he cried. Vash did, but he still clung to him, crying happily along with Milly who clutched to him around the waist. He didn't seem to mind Milly's affection, but Vash was a different story.
"Still alive, Priest? How sad." Knives stated calmly. Wolfwood looked up and gave the blonde man a look of boredom.
"Yeah, I'm still alive. What's really sad is that you're still on this planet. Your brother is just too soft. He has to see the good in everyone. Even those who are evil to the core."
"I could always rearrange your situation now if you'd like." Knives growled. Meryl rolled her eyes and swatted him with the spatula. Knives gave her a look that even sent chills down Kale's spine.
"I'm so glad you're alive and well! C'mon! I'm making breakfast! I want to hear the whole story." Wolfwood smiled and glanced at Vash who kinda blushed and followed after Meryl like a lost puppy.
Knives turned and walked up the stairs like usual. Kale watched for a moment and followed the priest and Milly back into the kitchen.

"Mmm, this is delicious, Meryl!" Wolfwood said happily as he attacked his breakfast without mercy. Vash was mimicking the priest. Meryl, Milly, and Kale sat back and watched with amused expressions.
"So, Wolfwood, what happened? We all thought you had died!" Wolfwood looked up with a mouthful of food. He swallowed and gasped, trying to take in air.
"Actually, no. He wasn't dead. I just saw blood in the church next to his Cross Punisher." Vash said with a mouthful. Meryl fell over and suddenly appeared by Vash and started choking him.
"And you didn't tell us?! We were all under the impression that he WAS dead! Ugh, I should kill you!" Meryl screeched. Kale looked at Wolfwood who seemed frightened by Meryl. Milly smiled and whispered something in the priest's ear.
He grinned from ear to ear and said casually, "So you two finally got together, huh? You seem happy together," Sarcasm dripped from the last part of his statement. Meryl stopped her assault and jumped away, blushing while Vash looked like he was going to keel over.
"Actually, I really thought I was going to die, but an old couple found me and took me in and brought me back to health. Guess they couldn't lift my cross. So, uh, do you have it?" Vash nodded weakly.
"It's in the basement," he rasped.
"Gee, thanks!" Wolfwood said, smiling then he looked at Kale, "Excuse me. I never did get your name."
"Kale Carlson. It's nice to meet you. Are you and Milly, uh, like Vash and Meryl?" Milly blushed and Wolfwood started laughing, rubbing the back of his head. Meryl smiled and Vash started crying happy tears again.
"They're together again!" Vash shouted happily.
"Yeah, it seems there's a little something going on between Knives and Kale, too," Meryl said slyly. Kale blushed and shook her head.
"No, there isn't! I swear to it!" she denied. Wolfwood looked at Meryl, as if he never heard Kale.
"What do you mean?" Meryl smirked.
"Well, I went to check up on Milly and Kale to see if they were alright just before I decided to come down and make breakfast. I found Kale's bed untouched. I was going to check downstairs to see if she was already up, but decided to check up on Knives as well. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw Kale sleeping against the guy with his arms around her!"
Wolfwood and Vash gapped at Kale who had her face buried in her hands. They looked at each other then looked back and shouted, "YOU HAD SEX WITH KNIVES?!"
"NO," Kale literally screamed, "nothing happened! Nothing! We were so out of it that I ended up following him into his! I passed out before anything serious happened!"
"Why were you drunk?" Wolfwood asked, looking around.
"They had a chugging contest last night. Everyone, except me, got drunk. Kale and Knives were the only ones that had surprisingly stayed conscious the whole time."
"Wow. You must be a pro to go up against someone like THAT guy!" the priest said in astonishment. Kale shook her head.
"Actually, last night was my first time I ever drank anything with alcohol." Wolfwood started laughing.
"Are you serious?! Whoa, who won the contest?"
"No one. We called it a draw."
"Wow, a girl going up against Knives in a drinking contest! I always thought Vash would be the only other person to meet Knives move for move."
"Vash was already getting drunk after we first sat down, Wolfwood," Meryl said dully. Vash grinned sheepishly.
"What about you, girl?" he asked Milly, who smiled in response.
"I didn't get past the second round, Mr. Wolfwood."
"Enough with the misters already!" Wolfwood said, smirking. Milly blushed.
"Ok, Wolfwood."
"Nicholas," he stated softly, taking her hand into his. Milly blushed bright red. Kale watched with a smile.
Wolfwood had been allowed to stay with them and would be sleeping with Milly. Kale, wanting to give the couple all the privacy they needed, made up her mind to sleep on the couch.
That night, Kale quietly walked out of the room and down the stairs to the living room, a blanket trailing behind her. She sat down on the couch and tucked her feet under her, pulling the blanket over her shoulders. Slowly she began to drift to sleep.

~*~*~These humans just won't DIE! Now the priest is living with us. What next?! I'm going to go insane! This morning I wake up to find myself with my arms around the human female! The horrifying part about it was that I didn't feel anything toward her except peace . . . the alcohol must have been still messing up my senses. I don't know if I would have lived with myself if I had actually had sex with her! I feel refreshed though after taking a long shower, knowing that I got her touch off of me.~*~*~
Knives closed his journal and set it on the nightstand with the pen and sighed, leaning back against the headboard of the bed. He promised himself to never drink more than three beers if he ever went back.
Still, ever though her had gotten the scent of Kale off of him, he still hadn't gotten her out his mind. He head started pound and he rubbed his temples. Just thinking about the woman gave him a migraine!
He throat suddenly became dry so he got up and padded across the room to the door, planning to go get some water. In the hall, he heard moaning from both rooms. He shuddered and suddenly felt a little bad for woman in Milly's room. He felt compelled to tell them to shut up, but he decided to give them hell about it in the morning.
As he went down the stairs he spotted a figure on the couch. He looked behind him then back at the couch with a curious expression. He moved over to it and peered over the top. Kale was sitting up, sleeping quietly, her mouth parted slightly, completely relaxed and vulnerable.
He arched and eyebrow and hmph'd as he walked into the kitchen. He came back with a glass of water in his hand. He was about to go back up the stairs, but stopped. He walked over to the side of the couch and tapped Kale's shoulder.
She jerked awake and looked around, spotting Knives. She closed her eyes and yawned, her hand coming up to cover her mouth.
"Mmm, Knives? What are you doing?" She mumbled, trying to wake up.
She gave the man another look and would have gawked. He wore a pair of gray pajama bottoms and a silk shirt that was buttoned a few times from the bottom, leaving a wide gap the showed his chest. He was looking at her with a curious expression and in one hand he held a glass of water. She stretched and sighed.
"What are you doing down here?" he asked. Kale arched an eyebrow at him.
"Well, actually it's none of your business, but if you must know. Wolfwood and Milly must have been together and were split up for quite a while obviously. They deserve as much privacy as they need and I'm not about to be selfish and not give it to them."
"So you would rather sleep one the couch for the rest of the time you'll be staying here, which I hope won't be much longer, than in your bed? You humans are such odd creatures." He caught her rolling her eyes.
"Whatever, Knives. I didn't come down here to put up with your crap. If you want to give me a hard time and force me to listen to your boring speeches on why we cannot comprehend the power and skill you plants possess then wait till morning. Right now, I want sleep and I'll be damned if you'll be keeping me awake."
"Calm down, you pathetic human. I wasn't thinking of doing anything. I was just wondering why you were down here. If you're going to be a little bitch about everything little thing I say or do then just stay out of my way. I have reasons for my actions. You just start yelling at me, like everyone else in this damned house!"
Kale narrowed her eyes and stood slowly, the blanket falling around her feet. Absently, Knives glanced her over. She wore blue pajama shorts that stopped at mid-thigh and a small, blue shirt with little ducks printed on it.
The nightshirt was buttoned all the way up and stopped at the forth from the top, the other three loose, leaving it wide open for Knives to see the white of her bra peeking out from the gap. He quickly shifted his gaze back to her own.
"Now just a minute, Knives. You think I scream my lungs out at you for my own health? You're so frustratingly impossible! You think I enjoy listening you rant and rave about my kind? It's my nature to defend myself against the horrible things you say about me! I personally have more important things to do with my life than to sit around and fight with a man like you!"
She placed her hands on her hips, challenging him with the silent gesture. Knives set the glass down on the side table and glared her down, accepting the challenge.
"Is that so? What do you have that is so important in your life? So far you have been nothing but a thorn in my side. Every since your bar was destroyed and you moved in, my life had gone down hill. I could tolerate the other two humans, maybe even the priest, but you're a whole different story." Kale thumped his partially naked chest with a clenched fist.
"Give me a break, Knives! I had no idea you were living here! Even then I had never expected you be such a spoiled, selfish brat! You don't care about anyone except for yourself! You don't care what you do to me or anyone around you! You never once stop to think what your words would cause another! So you can take all the things you've said about mankind and shove it because all the things you say about us describe YOU!"
She stooped down to grab the blanket and wrapped it around her, glaring at the man with a shocked and enraged expression. Knives's hand shot out and gripped her exposed throat and yanked her to him. Her eyes went wide at the sudden action.
He squeezed slightly and said, with his face only centimeters from hers, "Some of the things I do ARE meant to piss you off, but most of the time I do things that are right. Like exterminating your race, freeing all my enslaved brothers and sisters, and building an Eden for all Plants.
"My very own brother wants to protect you from me and because of him our race is dying and soon it will just be the two of us left. He's blinded by the theories and stories Rem, that damned woman, had implanted in his mind.
"He believes that everyone has the right to live, but what he doesn't see is that his very race is dying in front of him, but he refuses to acknowledge it! I don't know what to do with him and the more I hang around him, the more my plans for our future slips away!"
He kept his grip firm on her throat, but brought her closer and growled low, "And the more I hang around you, the more it worsens."
"I'm sorry that you think of us that way, Knives," she whispered, eyes closed, "and you're right. You're absolutely right, but that doesn't mean you should hate us because we want to survive. It's instinct among us all. Truth is, you scare the living daylights out of me . . ."
Knives jerked her up to him and he bent down, his lips locking with hers in a hard, lengthy kiss. Kale's eyes flew open, but fluttered back down and she leaned into his chest, returning what he started. Just as quick as it became, it stopped. Knives pulled back suddenly and hissed through his clenched teeth, "Tell anyone about this and I will skin you alive, understand?"
Kale, flushed and speechless, nodded without thinking much of it. Knives let go of her, picked up his glass of water, and stalked up the stairs, cursing himself under his breath. Kale stumbled back and fell on the couch, fingering her soon-to-be-bruised lips tenderly, shocked out of her mind.
