Trigun Fan Fiction ❯ Humanity: Torn Between Loving It and Hating It ❯ Playing With Knives ( Chapter 13 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

"C'mon, Kale! Just for old time's sake? I bet you're not as horrible as you make yourself out to be," Kane said, holding out one of the three daggers she owned and kept hidden under her clothes. Kale shook her head.

"Girl, you're crazier than I remembered," she grumbled, "and no."

"Aw, why not?!"

"One, it's ten in the morning and half my body is still trying to wake up. And two, when Knives wakes up he's going to want this spot and when he finds us here he's gunna start shouting how he is better than us and threaten us to leave. After all, these are his shooting grounds and I'm not in the mood, hell I'm never in the mood, to argue with the man."

Kane smirked and said, "What is with that guy anyway? I get the impression that something large got shoved up his ass and he's been a cranky bastard ever since. How can you put up with him?"

Kale looked down at her feet and smiled. How did she put up with Knives? She couldn't help but notice how differently he treated her compared to what he says or does to everyone else in the household. It wasn't all that different, but he acted a little relaxed around her and his threats weren't as frequent as before.

"Yeah, I got that impression, too, when I first met him, but once you get to know him he isn't all that bad."

"Kale, I don't think I want to get to know him!" Kane laughed. Kale's eyes warmed when she smiled. She missed times like this when Kane and her got along and agreed on things. Sadly, Kale would never forget what Kane had done in the past.

Suddenly Kane's dagger was shoved into her hand, grip first. Kale blinked and looked up at her smirking sister.

"C'mon! Throw it!"

"No way!" Kale said, attempting to shove it back into her twin's hands. Kane avoided and jumped behind her. She set her hands on her shoulders lightly and smiled.

"C'mon! I'm right here so there's nothing to hit except the house! Close your eyes and throw!" Kale hesitated, but she knew Kane was right. Everything was out of harms way. She heaved a sigh and put the knife in her throwing hand, which was the perfectly well one, and closed her eyes.

She lifted her hand back past her ear then jerked forward, her hand shooting out and letting go of the dagger. It spun in the air landed harmlessly blade first in the sand. Kale opened her eyes and smiled.

"See! Wasn't that fun? I know you miss doin' this, sister! Here," Kane said, reaching around her to place a second blade in her hand. Kale looked at it then at Kane. A grin crept onto her lips.

Knives stepped out of his room dressed in a pair of black boots, black jeans, (A/N: They could be slacks. It was what Vash wore when he left after getting his haircut by Lina or Lana. Only they're black. I dunno. ^^U) and a silk gray button up shirt that was parted to show part of his muscular chest.

He ran a hand over his polished gun as he walked down the hall and down the stairs. Wolfwood was sitting on the couch listening to the news on the radio while Milly sat next to him, resting her head on his shoulder. Vash was playing around with his gun in a chair and Meryl sat on the couch beside Milly as she cross-stitched

"Hey, Knives! You're finally up! I though you would sleep the day away like Kale usually does," Wolfwood said, smiling and peering over his dark glasses. Knives grunted and walked past them.

"Where is that human anyway?" He asked over his shoulder.

"Kane took her out back for knife throwing. I didn't know she did such things! Did you know?" Vash asked, astonished. Knives said nothing and walked out the door.

Wolfwood watched, his smile growing into a sly grin. He turned to Vash who stared back and said, "Ever noticed that Knives never asks where or what Kale is doing? And that he's always talking to her and no one else except maybe you? Have you seen it?"

"I guess, what are you getting at?"

"I think he's developed a tiny crush," he said. Vash and Meryl gapped at that then sat in silence for a moment.

"Ya know, Wolfwood, you just might be right." Vash said, smiling like an idiot.

"Oh, please. You two are insane. I mean, this is Knives we're talking about here!" Meryl said, rolling her eyes.

"Good point," Wolfwood said, looking thoughtful before turning his attention back to the radio.

Kane walked back with the three daggers in hand. Kale took one that was offered and closed her eyes again once Kane stepped behind her. She reached back past her ear again, every intention of throwing it into the sand again.

"Human! What are you doing here?" an annoyed masculine tone erupted out of nowhere. Kale was so surprised when she threw it that she accidentally went off course and it flew right toward the voice.

"Ack!" Knives shouted when he rounded the corner only to have a knife stab deep into the house behind him, an inch from his ear. Kale opened her eyes and gasped.

"Oh my God, Knives! Are you alright?!" Knives stood there, staring at the knife out of the corner of his eye. That had been a bit too close for his liking. He turned and stared at Kale.

Kale's shocked expression melted away to a look of amusement. Behind her Kane was doubling over in laughter. Kale covered her mouth as it trembled with the laughter that was bubbling up out of nowhere.

His expression was absolutely priceless. His blue eyes wide with shock, his mouth agape it horror, and his body stiff as a board. Knives's expression was wiped away in an instant and was replaced by a mask of fury. He reached over and yanked out the dagger then stalked over to the girls.

"What is the meaning of this?! You find this funny, you disgusting creature?! Your blasted knife could have impaled me had you thrown it sooner and yet all you two can do is laugh?!" he roared. Kale bit her lip to keep from bursting into laughter.

"I am so--o sorry, Knives! You just surprised me." She gripped his wrist to steady the blade that kept swinging dangerously in front of her face.

Knives stopped his ranting and watched as her small hand pried open his gloved fingers then pinched the

point of the blade and eased it out of his hand, turning it up so the grip was pointing to the sky.

"Next time, don't shout," she said, smirking. Knives balled his hands into fists and was about to say something when Kane came up and laid a hand on Kale's shoulder. He stared for a moment.

Like Kale, Kane had raven black hair that spiked at the bottom as it was pulled back into a braid along with Kale's. Her eyes were a smoky gray; almost silver while Kale's were a deep gray, like a storm was brewing in that odd colored gaze.

They stood at the same height, dressed in tight fighting jeans and mid-drift T-shirts. Both were dangerously curvy and feminine, yet their minds and personality toward things were not all that girlish.

"Hey, Romeo, take a picture. It'll last longer," Kane said, smirking. Knives twitched, eyes shrinking dangerously. Kale smiled sheepishly and started backing her sister away from the angry Plant.

"Kane, stop teasing Knives!" she hissed over her shoulder.

"Why? It's so much fun!"

"Because I know what will happen once you push him to far! That's why!" Kane looked at her sister confused. Kale trembled when Knives crooked his index finger at her, motioning her to come to him.

"Just stay here, okay?" Kale then turned and walked over slowly to the pale blonde.

"Yeah?"

"Before I decide to kill you both, I want you to leave my shooting grounds. No one gave you permission to come out here."

"Give me a break, Knives. I only came out here to throw some daggers and besides, I come out here sometimes to watch you practice!" Knives crossed his arms.

"And I always tell you to leave, don't I?" Kale looked at her hands.

"Well, yeah."

"Alright then."

Kale pursed her lips angrily as Knives stood there lazily, an arrogant smile crossing his features. She growled and stalked past him. Kane blinked and followed after her sister, shooting Knives a look before disappearing around the house.

Once they were out of site, Knives heaved a sigh and shook his head. He closed his eyes and ran a hand through his hair then opened them again.

"Why am I not pissed off like I should be? These are my grounds after all and they didn't get my consent of walking on them. Something is wrong here . . ." Deciding not to dwell on it, the tall Plant pulled out his black revolver (A/N: That is what kind it is right? Everyone else keeps calling it that ^^U) and started his daily shooting session.

"Ugh, that man is really getting on my nerves!" Kale shouted to no one in particular. She stalked over to where she had planned to start growing flowers and knelt down in front of it. She glanced up to see Kane walking toward her.

"Hey, what did that jerk say that made you so angry all of a sudden?" She knelt down beside her sister and watched as Kale stabbed her hands angrily into the hot sand.

"Oh, he's just being himself. I swear, that man is going to get a serious ass kicking one of these days and I'll never let him live it down!"

Kane laughed and said, "I take it he's always the top notch around here? Or at least that what he thinks, right?"

Kale growled and threw a fist full of sand at the house. This only made Kane laugh harder. She had never seen her sister act so childish before.

"The man is a walking hazard, Kane! He thinks he's better than everyone else when in fact he is no better than we are. Sure, his IQ is probably unbelievably high and his power and agility is something one could only dream of having, but other than that he is just like us! He has the same internal organs, he talks, he breathes, and he feels. I hate it the way he treats me!"

"Hey, hey. Calm down, sis! It's okay, really. Think of him as some spoiled rich brat. He only treats you badly cause you're not giving him what he wants. All spoiled kids throw tantrums when something doesn't go their way."

Kale sighed and looked up, "I don't know what he wants from me. He should be more like his brother. At least he isn't threatening to blow my head off!" Kane smirked and decided to change the topic.

"So what are doing?"

"Huh? Oh, yesterday I got this idea about starting a small garden. Crazy, I know, but if I put a lot of hard work into, I just might pull it off!" Kane clapped a hand on her good shoulder and smiled.

"Maybe I could lend a hand, that is, of course, if you'll let me?" Kale looked at her sister for the longest time before smiling back.

"Of course! Hey lets go to the shop and pick up the things we need for growing!" They both got up and headed toward the front of the house.

"Wait, will they allow us to do this? I mean, buying the equipment isn't going to be that much I'm sure, but just a small packet of seeds is gunna be rather expensive!"

"I'm sure they won't mind. Besides, I could always pay it off by lending Shelly a hand at her bar in town. C'mon, stop worrying. I'd like to get there and back as quick as I can!" Kane was about to protest again when Kale grabbed her arm and jerked her into the house.

^^ Wee, I updated! Ok, the lemon is in people!

Derrangedkitten- Graphic? ^^U Um, I dunno what ya mean by that. Aren't all lemons graphic? If ya mean where I state these gross names for certain body parts, then no. I think lemons like that are jus . . . ugh. Not exactly what I would like in a sexual chpt. Think it more out of a romance novel or sometin'. ^^ Also, if ya dun want to read it then it's fine by me. It's going to be a deleted scene anyway.

Lunatic Jedi- I have to agree with you half for half on this. Yes, some lemons jus ruin the whole story, but then some don't. It jus depends on the author and the story. That's why most put their lemons as separate chpts or what we call "Deleted Scenes". Dun worry, like DK, you don't have to read it. I haven't planned on how to do it yet. ^^U

vegetas chibi- No, you are not being perverted. I am the pervert cause I'm the one that implied what goes on the bedroom and why the girls refuse to sleep there. >]

Thank you guys for reviewing the story *^^* *passes out Kit Kat Bites* XD I hope you enjoyed this chpt! Laterz!
