Trigun Fan Fiction ❯ There's No Love Deeper Than a Brother's ❯ Interlude for Love ( Chapter 1 )

Knives stared out into the shadow drenched dessert, lost in thought. Vash had come back to the hotel room exhausted. Knives had demanded that he get into bed, stating that his twin wouldn't be up for any “vigorous activity” that night. Vash had given his brother a small smile in return and had promptly collapsed.
Now the blue eyed plant stood at the window contemplating his future. What was there left to him? He didn't want to leave his brother, especially if it meant that they would be laying their lives on the line. And for what? His hatred of the human scum knew no bounds. Or, at least it hadn't in the past. Now he wasn't so sure. Knives glanced behind him at the sleeping man, dark blond hair flopped about his face and fanned out on the pillow.
That man had bound him.
For better or worse, what they had shared the night before caused the once irrevocably homicidal plant to take pause. He couldn't live with the humans, he knew that. But Vash loved the humans, was tied to them through a woman who had been dead for over a century. But those damn spiders had ripped his brother apart, marred him almost beyond recognition.
Not as much as you have…
That thought caused his breath to catch. He had given his beloved twin many of those scars, even taken his arm. And the peace loving fool still forgave him. It was obvious Vash couldn't take care of himself. Not like he was supposed to. Look what happened when he was alone for too long. He got some ridiculous idea in his head to protect the humans and fought his own flesh and blood!
And won.
Knives sneered and turned back to the window. Yes, Vash had beaten him. And right now, he didn't mind in the least. Well, except for being left alone for hours. That he could do without. But it was because Vash was trying to take care of him. The brother had tried to kill him too many times to count.
Why?
Why?
WHY?
Knives scowled and climbed onto the bed, hovered over his brother and shook him. Vash groaned and cracked one glazed cyan eye to stare questioningly at his twin.

“Why Vash? WHY did you save me?”

The groggy plant immediately became lucid. “Knives, what brought this on?”
“Don't change the subject! Just answer the question!” Knives yelled, almost hysterical. His chest was heaving and his eyes were wild.
Vash sat up, taking his twin's hands, cradling them to his chest. “Because…I love you.”
“WHY!?” Knives howled, tears tracking unnoticed down his cheeks. “After everything, how could you possibly…” He trailed off, shocked as he saw his brother's eyes fill with tears and spill over.
“Because you are my other half, Knives. Without you…I'm not whole. I hated how you acted. I hated what you did. But I could never hate you.”

Knives stared in disbelief. This man, who he had spent over a century hurting in any feasible way, didn't hate him. Never had.
A sob welled up from his core and tore its way from his throat as he flung his arms around his precious twin and buried his face in Vash's neck.
“I'm sorry I hurt you, I'm so sorry! I love you Vash! More than anything…I love you.”
Vash the Stampede clutched at his brother, someone he thought he'd lost almost one hundred and thirty years ago. Someone who had come back to him.
“I love you too Millions Knives.”

The two plants stayed wrapped in each other for another hour, reassuring themselves of the other's existence. Finally…

“Vash…” Knives said quietly, lifting his head a little.
“Yeah?” was the murmured reply.
“I can't stay with the humans…but…I want to stay with you. Always.”
Vash pulled back and lifted his brother's face until they were eye to eye. “That's alright. We'll figure out something. After all,” he smiled, “we have forever.”
Knives returned the smile, his eyes shining. “Yes. Forever.”

AN: Alright, here's a little interlude thing for you all. I would like to point out that I realize Knives comes off as OOC and perhaps he is. I take it as he's just recently had an emotional breakthrough, and is rather vulnerable and fragile. Also, notice that he never apologizes for killing or being cruel to the humans. Because he's not. He hates them, but regrets that his hatred spilled over to affect his brother.

I would like to add one more chapter to this but, as you can see from the previous post to this one, it might be a while. I know this chapter isn't the best and I'll try to edit and revise it at a later date, but it was something that I thought you all might like.

Constructive criticism is always welcome.
