RATED NC-17 for Lemony Freshness. Mild spoiler alert!

This is a sequel to my earlier work Just for Tonight. It is not necessary to read that story first to understand this one, but it might give you a clue as where I am taking the relationship between Vash and Meryl. Probably by now, most of us have seen the end of the anime series and many of us were wondering what happens next? Here's my version.

Ticket to the Future

Chapter I: A New Beginning

Has it only been a week since Vash left this place? I stare out into the street and sigh heavily. Milly constantly hovers and worries that I will set out into the desert to look for him. No, I won't follow him this time. And, while I understood his reasons for leaving, I didn't necessarily agree with them. But, I knew this was something he had to take care of on his own. Besides, it was a fact; I was simply tired of moving from place to place. I wanted to stay in one place for a while. I needed to rest and analyze my feelings for the man known as Vash the Stampede.

This was a nice small town and the people here were mostly friendly. Milly and I had worked hard to earn their respect and trust when we had shown up with Vash a few weeks before hand. Knowing how people would react to learning the Humanoid Typhoon was in town, we tried to live quietly and work hard at the jobs we had started. It seemed that we were fitting in for a while. People actually asked about our friend who was hurt, but like most folks, they didn't take it well when they learned the identity of the man whom we were caring for.

It took them a couple of weeks to realize who he was. Vash was suffering from bullet wounds, scrapes, and cuts. Once he regained consciousness, his very soul had been troubled about the incident with Legato. It wasn't his fault Legato was dead. It was mine, but I'm not going to allow myself to go there. I can't dwell on the fact that Legato's dead and I am responsible for causing Vash to kill him. Nothing will change that fact. I brought intense emotional pain to the person I have come to care for deeply.

The townspeople had grudgingly accepted the fact Vash the Stampede was living in their midst. This was after they had dragged him behind a truck and threatened to kill him. Why I placed myself between him and that man holding a gun is something I've thought about many times in the past several days. Yet, if I am honest with myself, I know the answer. I love Vash. That's the same reason I went to him the night before he left. I wanted to do something to help ease the pain he was feeling. Sometimes, the touch of another person can work wonders for the soul. Yes, we slept together that night. It was more than just sex but not quite making love. At least that's the way I see it. Maybe a more accurate description would be two friends offering each other comfort. I really don't know his exact feelings for me. A grin curves my lips as I think about that night. Vash has other talents besides being a gunslinger. "Stop that." I tell myself mentally. "Don't dwell on something that may or may not happen again."

Vash left to confront his brother, Knives. With what little Vash had told me of him, I'd come to the conclusion that this Knives was a terrible individual. Worse still, is the fact Knives is his brother. It is a horrible situation. I can only hope Vash will survive the encounter and return here to me.

I leave the comfort of my chair on the porch and trudge down the street to see how the progress on the new well is coming along. Milly has been totally amazing. Mr. Wolfwood's death hit her hard, but except for rare occasions, you'd never know it. I have my suspicions about what happened between them the night before he died, but I haven't come right out and asked her about it. She has been a very good friend to me and I don't want to cause her additional pain. Sometimes though, I see her tears when she thinks I'm not looking. I do worry about her lately though. She hasn't been eating well and she looks pale. I let my thoughts wander as I near the town's center.

There is a large crowd gathered around the well opening. Milly and several other workers are there, as well as many of the townsfolk. As I approach the crowd, Milly spies me and waves me over to her side. Before I can comment on the progress, I hear a distant rumble and feel the ground shake. With a roar, a huge geyser of water spews from the well and rains down on everyone. Milly, her eyes alight with pride, snatches me up in a hug and twirls me around. "Meryl, we hit water," she cries. All around us, people are crying, laughing, hugging, and congratulating each other. Children and pets dash about happily in the downpour. Milly and I are hugged by numerous townspeople. It is a very happy occasion.

As we stand there talking, a strange expression crosses Milly's face. "Look, Meryl. Someone's out there." I turn to look in the direction she is pointing. Sure enough, there is someone approaching town. I fail to see the brilliant crimson coat that I have come associate with Vash. It's probably just some traveler passing through. Yet, something about the way this figure moves draws me to take a second look. "It's Mr. Vash! Mr. Vash has come back!" Milly cries happily at my side.

"Thank you, God." I whisper softly before dashing out to meet him at the edge of town. I can't get to him fast enough. Stopping short of flinging myself at him, I immediately notice several differences about him. He's got somebody across his shoulder that has obviously been shot. Gone is the signature red trench coat and pistol. Instead he's wearing a skin-tight suit that reveals his magnificent body. I feel my mouth water at the sight of him.

Sure enough, that goofy grin is across his lips. "Hey! I made it back! Do you girls have any of those donuts? I'm starving!" Here I stand, ready to fling myself in his arms and confess my love for him and he's concerned with donuts? Vash has got to be the most exasperating individual I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.

So, instead of the hugs and kisses I planned to greet him with, I find myself shouting at him, "DONUTS, I'VE BEEN WORRIED SICK ABOUT YOU AND ALL YOU CAN ASK ABOUT IS DONUTS? GRRRRR."

"Gee, Meryl. I've been wandering out in the desert and thinking about a lot of things. I've even brought my brother back with me." That whiny child-like tone somehow has the power to deflate my worst anger at him. I find myself sighing heavily and with a slump of my shoulders; I motion him to follow me to the house we still occupy in this place. Milly is taking this all in stride as usual. She's chattering away at Vash wanting to know all about his brother, how badly is he hurt, will he be all right… Sometimes I envy her ability to be totally clueless; it's almost like she doesn't comprehend what is going on around her. I have so many things to tell and to ask Vash about, but I guess it will have to wait. I really grateful he's back in one piece.

We continue down the street, past the new town well. The initial commotion surrounding the water strike has died down. Several of the townsfolk have noticed Vash has returned. Some are whispering and pointing our direction. I feel myself tense, preparing for the worst. Milly doesn't have her stun gun with her and Vash looks unarmed as well. It's a good thing my supply of derringers is with me. "This could get ugly," I think. A group of men start toward us. "This is it! Stay on your guard."

Much to my surprise, one man steps in front of Vash and holds out his hand in welcome. "We would like to welcome you back to town, Mr. Vash. Just remember, we don't want any trouble." Vash shakes the man's hand. His smile is contagious. "To tell you the truth, I'm really looking forward to living a peaceful existence myself." I'm amazed. Less than 2 weeks ago, these same men wanted to kill him. Tears threaten to overwhelm my eyes. I hastily dash them away before anyone can notice. "Well, there will be a huge party tonight to celebrate, and you are all invited." We thank him before continuing on our way.

* * * * * * * * *

"You would think a party would be enough to cheer a girl up, to get her mind off of her problems, wouldn't you" my mental self whispers in my ear. I guess carrying around unresolved feelings for the most notorious gunslinger on the planet would be enough to put a damper on any party. The people in this town have an excellent reason to be celebrating. It's not everyday a crew taps into an underground water vein.

Glancing around the room, I spy Vash drinking to another toast with some of the townsfolk. The red coat is gone and in its place is a pair of form fitting denim jeans and long sleeved shirt. Vash in "normal" attire is playing havoc with my senses. As my eyes wander past a mirror on a nearby wall, I pause a moment to study my own attire. My short, strapless, red mini-dress and matching pumps have earned me many admiring glances from the men inhabiting this room. And, while I have never considered myself a vain woman, I still like to know men find me attractive. But, the one man I specifically wore this dress for has barely paid me any attention since we arrived here two hours ago. Yes, here I stand in my very best party dress, trying to get the attention of Vash the Stampede. "You have truly sunk to a pathetic level…"

I see Milly is laughing with a group in one corner. She is sipping on another glass of tea. I wonder about that for a moment. Usually at a party like this, she'd be knocking back drinks with the best of them. Still, I don't think I've seen her drink since Mr. Wolfwood died. But, it's good to see her laughing again.

"Face it, he's not interested in picking up where you two left off before he went after Knives." I refuse to acknowledge my mental voice. I make my decision to head on home though. I'm really not in the mood to party much anyway and there is no need for me to spoil anyone else's fun. But, looking around this room, I really doubt anyone will notice if I leave.

I make my way out the back door of the cantina and start down the alleyway. As I head deeper into the shadows, I feel a weight descending onto my very soul. How can I tell Vash how I feel about him if I can't get him alone for a few minutes? "Maybe, he's avoiding you on purpose."

At the thought of that possibility, I have to stop. I lean back onto the nearest wall in the alley. The sounds of the party barely penetrate the cool darkness. For all the heat of the day, soft cool breezes punctuate the nights here. Millions of tiny stars light the night sky. The last time I took a few moments to admire the beauty of the night was when Vash and I were together. I sigh heavily and drop my chin to my chest. In spite of my resolve, I feel tears prick my eyes. I shut them quickly and press my palms hard to my eyes. I can't give in to this feeling of…

I gasp and look up quickly as a familiar callused hand caresses my face. "V… Va… Vash," I stutter in the darkness. "What are you doing out here? Is something wrong?"

"Well…" he began. "I saw you leave and was wondering what was the matter? I wanted to talk to you all day, but never got the chance and I guess back there was no place to hold a conversation either." He smiled down at me, his aqua eyes glittering with mischief in the darkness.

"Talk to me about what?" I tried my best to keep the anxious note out of my voice. "Did you want to discuss how we are going to care for Knives and keep him from wrecking havoc when he wakes up? As a representative of the Bernadelli Insurance Society, I feel it is my responsibility to ensure that…"

I grew silent as he placed a single finger over my lips. "Meryl, you know that's not what I meant." I gasped softly as I watched his eyes drift slowly closed and felt his lips touch mine. They were as soft and gentle as I remembered. My own eyes drifted closed as I lost myself in his kiss.

Vash stepped closer and wrapped me in his arms, pulling me closer to his warm body. I could feel the denim of his jeans and the soft material of his shirt caressing my bare legs and arms. I could feel the familiar ache beginning to build between my thighs causing me to grow hot and wet. I wrapped my arms tightly around him, answering his hungry kisses with my own. I was taken aback when he abruptly stopped and stared down at me.

"Meryl, are you sure you want this? You know I'm not human, that I'll out live you? Bounty hunters will still come looking for the Humanoid Typhoon for the money, so I can't promise I'll never strap on a gun again. My brother could wake up tomorrow and blow us all to kingdom come. My body is scarred beyond repair…"

"Vash, will you please shut up! I think your body is gorgeous, I'm known as "Derringer Meryl", if we are blown away by Knives, at least we will still be together, and we'll just have to take this age thing one day at a time." "Besides," I continue with a small smile, "I will only continue to follow you across this planet, so we may as well enjoy each other's company." "Please Vash," I whisper in the darkness as I lean fully against him. "Kiss me again."

"I'd be happy to…" With that phrase, Vash slanted his mouth over mine again and I felt as if I were being swallowed by a vortex. I was going to drown in the feelings he was arousing in me and I didn't care. I could feel his hands tugging at the bodice of my dress, pulling it down to expose my breasts to his roving hands. His fingers skillfully kneaded my breasts as his thumbs flicked at my aching nipples. I moaned low in my throat at his attentions.

He trailed a line of hot kisses from my mouth to my throat while his hands began their descent to find their way under my short skirt. I tugged his shirt from the waist of his pants and began to undo the buttons on it. I wanted to feel him next to me. I know it hadn't been that long since we'd been together, but right now it felt as if we'd been apart forever. I didn't care we were in an alley and anyone could wander this way and find us locked together.

At the first touch of his fingers on my nether lips, I cried out softly. The fire running through my veins was threatening to consume me. I ran my fingers over his bare chest, teasing his own hardened nipples as he had teased mine. Our tongues were locked together in playful combat, each trying to devour the other. Gasping for breath, I tore my mouth from his. I wanted to taste him again. I hungrily ran my lips over his throat, feeling the pulse jump wildly under my tongue. I traced the outline of him through the material of his pants. He wanted me as much as I wanted him. My feminine side was thrilled by the knowledge I had this type of power over him.

Vash was breathing in harsh gasps, one hand buried in my crotch and the other teasing my breasts. One of his thighs was between my own keeping me pinned between him and the wall. "Meryl," he moaned against my lips. "I want you now…I don't want to wait any longer…"

His eyes held the same look as they had that night. He plucked again skillfully at the tiny nubbin of flesh between my legs, causing me to gasp sharply. I wanted this man to fill me, to pound me senseless as I came around him.

I nodded my assent, thinking we'd walk the few blocks back to the house. Much to my surprise, Vash simply picked me up and placed me across his hips. I could feel his hand struggling to unfasten his pants as the other had a firm grip on my ass. I tried to ask him what he had in mind, but he quickly covered my lips with his own. The familiar fire leapt in my veins as we continued to kiss. I felt his erect member spring free from his jeans and nudge its way between my spread thighs. I wanted this I realized dimly. I was going to be taken in an alleyway where anyone could stumble across us and I didn't care. I wanted him to fill me with his cock and make me cum.

He entered me in one smooth motion, causing me to gasp. I'd forgotten how big he was. I could feel my inner walls stretching to accommodate his size. "I'm sorry Meryl, I kept thinking about this in the desert and promised myself that next time we'd be in a proper bed, that we'd have longer to enjoy each other…"

"Vash, do you hear me complaining? Just shut up and move…Please." He answered my request by withdrawing from me a short way and surging back into me. I gasped and lowered my mouth to his, our tongues thrusting in time with our hips. It was incredible being pinned between him and the wall. I wound my arms around his shoulders and my legs around his waist, clinging to his strong body as he continued to thrust deep inside me. "Meryl, it's just like I remembered… You're so tight and hot around me." I could only moan softly in response.

Vash ran his tongue over my throat as our bodies ground together. I felt his teeth nip sharply at my neck, and felt a gentle suction there. I'd be wearing his mark in the morning. The thought thrilled me. He was not going to be secretive about our relationship.

His hands were pulling me tightly against his body as he ground himself into me. Without warning, I felt the shock waves of pleasure roll through my body as I came against him. I clutched at him and buried my mouth against his shoulder in an effort to muffle my scream of pleasure. As the tremors began to subside, Vash stiffened and came deep inside me. He thrust into me a few more times as his own orgasm ended.

We both panted heavily in the darkness, dripping with sweat. The scent of our encounter filled the night air. Slowly, Vash pulled his limp member from my body and lowered me to the ground. He gave a short laugh of masculine satisfaction as he reached out to steady me. I clutched at him for a few moments as feeling returned to my legs.

"Are you up to walking back home, " he asked as he straightened his clothes and helped me with my own. "I'm sure I can manage. Are you sure you don't want to go back to the party?" I asked him while nodding my head in that direction.

"No way," he said as he quickly scooped me up. "I'm not through with you yet." He strode off into the darkness, carrying me in his arms. "That is, if you think you can keep up the Humanoid Typhoon."

I smiled softly up at him and nodded as he continued down the darkened streets of the town.

* * * * * * *

Soft moonlight streams through the open window of the bedroom. Illuminated in the darkness, Vash stands at the foot of my bed, gazing down at me. I tremble with anticipation. I have a feeling I'll never be able to get enough of him. My back is a little sore from being pinned against a wall a few minutes ago, but I will not let minor scrapes deter me from enjoying what the rest of the evening has to offer.

"So, what have you got in mind for an encore performance, Vash?"

"To tell you the truth, I intend to start at your lips and work my way down your body until I can taste your sweet clit." I stare at him for a moment, my mouth agape with shock. His eyes crinkle in a smile as he looms over me on the bed. "Then, I intend to lick and suck at your core until you scream my name and beg me to make you cum." I shiver at the thought. "You think you can make me beg?" "I never beg."

His voice answered my challenge huskily in my ear. "Well, I guess we'll just have to see if I can prove you wrong." His tongue quickly darted out to trace the outline of my ear. I shivered as his teeth grazed my ear lobe and worked their way down my throat.

My body arches against his in response as he claims my lips in a searing kiss. My arms wrap around his neck of their own volition. I hold him tightly to me as if to assure myself he's real and not just a figment of my imagination. The feel of his body lying on mine is incredibly erotic. His tongue gently swirls around my own as my blood flows like fire through my veins.

Slowly, Vash eases down my body, trailing wet, hot kisses and licks of his tongue the entire way. He pauses briefly at my throat before moving to my breasts. I've often wished I was well endowed, but Vash doesn't seem to mind their size. I smother a groan as he traces my breasts with his callused hands. His thumb flicks at one nipple as he laps at the other with his tongue. My back arches in response to his attentions. Another moan escapes my lips and I momentarily forget myself and whisper his name in the darkness, "Vash…"

Vash looks up at me through half closed eyes. "Meryl, are you begging already?" There is a hint of laughter in his tone. "Hardly." I manage to utter. He smiles and lowers his mouth to my other breast, worrying the stiff peak with his teeth. I can feel my pulse pounding in my veins as he continues this gentle form of torture.

Again, I feel his body slide down mine, his lips blazing a trail as he nears his goal. He laps gently at my flat stomach before burying his face between my spread thighs. I cry out sharply as his tongue caresses my clit. Vash continues to suck gently at me, letting his tongue delve into me. I clench my hands at my side, determined not to beg him for release. It's becoming more and more difficult. He is working magic on my body. I feel him insert a finger into my channel, stroking my passageway as his lips and teeth massage my aching clit. I'm on fire wanting to cum, but can't bring myself to let go, to give in.

Suddenly, Vash reaches up and begins to roll my nipples between his fingers as his mouth sucks at my clit. Somehow, he has stumbled across the one thing I can't resist. I clutch at his hair, and grind myself against his face. "Please, Vash, Please, make me cum…" I'm gasping for breath and barely hear his response. "Told you, I'd make you beg…"

Vash increases the pace of his tongue and fingers. I can feel the tiny tremors begin deep inside me, my body suddenly stiffens, and I cry out as pleasure pours through every part of me. I want this feeling to last forever. Vash pulls his body over mine and drives himself into me. I can feel my inner muscles, drawing at his hard member, clenching in an attempt to keep him inside me every time he withdraws. He drives himself into me brutally and I feel myself reach a second peak. As he continues to pound himself into me, I wrap my legs around his waist in an effort to pull him closer, deeper inside me. "Oh Vash, I love you…"

"Meryl…" he hoarsely grounds out through clenched teeth as he reaches is own orgasm. I can feel his flooding my womb with his essence. I wonder briefly if we could create life together. But, that thought is fleeting as we lie locked together in the darkness.

Totally satisfied and spent, I suddenly recall my words a few moments ago. I gently caress his back as we lie here, trying to still our racing hearts. Maybe he hadn't heard me. Vash raises his head from my shoulder. He is gazing intently into my eyes. "Meryl," he begins quietly. "Did you really mean it? Did you mean what you said?" I swallow hard before answering. "Yes, Vash. I love you. I guess I have for a long time and could never admit it to myself or to you until I was faced with the prospect of loosing you forever."

"You tried to tell me the night before I left, didn't you? But, I wouldn't let you. I was afraid we wouldn't have a future together."

"Oh Vash, you are the one always telling people their ticket to the future is always open. Why should ours be any different?"

"Meryl, I wanted to tell you how I felt that night, but I was afraid. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to come back and you'd spend the rest of your life mourning a dead man…just like poor Milly will always grieve for Wolfwood."

"So, Vash, does this mean…"

" Yes, Meryl, I love you."

With those words, I felt a huge weight lift from my soul. I laughed aloud and wrapped my arms around Vash and kissed him. "Oh Vash, you were right, the future is wide open before us. All we have to do is take hold."

Vash smiles softly down at me and rolls his body to the side of mine. "Do you mind if we begin that future by spending the rest of the night in bed, asleep? I'm suddenly exhausted."

I nod and shift closer to him as he wraps me in his strong arms. We have come a long way since meeting that far off afternoon in Felnarl. I yawn and let my mind drift with the images of him from the time of our first meeting. As my eyes drift closed, I snuggle closer to the most dangerous man on the planet. "I love you, Vash the Stampede."

A sleepy voice, laced with his own brand of humor reaches me through rapidly escaping consciousness. "I love you too, Derringer Meryl…"

Epilogue:

Something woke me from a very sound sleep. It sounded as if someone were ill. Not wanting to disturb Vash, I quickly threw on his discarded shirt from the night before and made my way silently down the hall to the bathing area. Milly was retching horribly. I'd never seen her drink so much she was ill the next day. Now that I think of it, I'd never seen her drink anything other than tea last night before I'd left.

"Milly, are you alright? What's wrong? Did you drink too much last night?"

Milly sank back onto the floor and stared up at me, her eyes full of tears. "Oh Meryl, I think I'm pregnant."

Too stunned to reply, I could only stare into her face as I sank down beside her.

Well, there you have it, another bit of lemony goodness from the corners of my smutty mind.

Will I continue this story? Right now, I have no idea. I guess it depends on reader response.

As always, thanks for reading my latest offering and if you have a minute, please review this for me.
