Abel stared at Esther's rapidly cooling body in disbelief. Watching the pooled blood around her congeal and then begin to dry. She was dead. The gunshot wound under her chin had taken the entire back of her head off. Blood and grey matter painted the walls in a gruesome mural behind where her body lay. He couldn't believe it. Moreover he couldn't quite believe who had taken her life in such a violent fashion.

 

He turned to look at his companion. “W . . . why, Tres?”

 

The android blinked slowly at him before answering. “All of my sensors indicated it was the appropriate action to take.”

 

“What could your sensors possibly indicate that would lead you to do this?” Abel wailed.

 

“My sensors indicate she was too annoying to be allowed to live.”
