Twilight Fan Fiction ❯ Gray Areas ❯ Comic Books ( Chapter 5 )
This time, I stare out the window and the whole world seems to spin. I feel the food in my stomach swirling around and I mutter incoherently to Edward before running out the door. I run around the side of the restaurant and throw up behind the garbage can.
I sit down next to the side door and try to steady my breathing. I cover my head with my arms and bring my knees to my chest, shaking with sobs. How could my parents have been so stupid. How could they give up their life for me. Who is to say that they couldn't have gotten saved and came and got me themselves.
I feel a cold hand on my arm and I scream surprised before noticing it is only Edward. "Holy mother of..." my voice trails off and I take a deep breath calming down. "Sorry," I mutter softly and advert my eyes to look somewhere else.
"I shouldn't have said anything," he says quietly and I get chills from the sounds of his voice.
"No, thank you."
We sit there in silence for a few minutes and I finally wipe the tears from my eyes. I smile softly to Edward. "So you still won't tell me what you are?" I ask him and he chuckles shaking his head.
I roll my eyes stand up and brushing myself off. "Well thank you for answering some of my questions," I say emphasizing on the 'some'.
He nods his head politely. "Your welcome. Now you should be getting home," he says and I nod my head.
"Oh right. Um, do you know where there is a phone?" I ask him and he hands me a little silver cell phone. "Thanks," I say and punch in the numbers on the paper from Kyle.
"Hello?" A voice answers.
"Hi is this Kyle?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"Emma."
"Oh thank god! Everyone has been so worried. Are you okay? I never should have left and trust me, Cindy will never let me forget that mistake."
I chuckle softly shaking my head even though he can't see. "No, no. I'm fine. But I'm ready to go back whenever you have the chance."
"Ok. My dad has the car out at the supermarket right now but as soon as he gets back I'll head and come get you. Go inside Rossie's or something so my guilt stops eating away at me for leaving."
I roll my eyes. "Ok. Thank you," I say and I hang up handing the phone back to him.
"Someone coming to get you?" he asks me raising an eyebrow.
I nod my head and he eyes me again. "Oh yeah, when?" he asks.
I shrug. "Soon?" I say laughing.
He sighs shaking his head. "Come on, let me take you home," he says and starts walking.
I stand where I am and he turns to look at my curiously. "Why?"
"Because you sitting outside this alley in the middle of the night isn't the smartest thing in the world. And that waitress thinks your insane, so she most likely won't let you inside."
I glare at him before shrugging and sitting against the wall. "Oh well," I say and I glance at him smirking.
"What do you want?" he asks groaning.
"I want to know how it's possible."
"Not happening."
"Then go ahead and go back inside Mister Cullen. I believe the piano is waiting for you."
He glares at me and I hide my smile. "You can guess. If you get it right I'll tell you. That's the best your going to get out of me."
"Deal!" I say smiling and standing up, taking the phone from him.
My fingers graze his and my whole body turns ice cold. I swallow trying to hide it and call Kyle back again to let him know I had a ride. After 10 minutes of making sure it's not a rapist or a random guy he finally agrees but makes me promise to have Cindy call when I am back.
I give the phone back to Edward and wait for him while he tells the restaurant he is leaving. After a few minutes I follow him to his car. "I'm surprised your eyes aren't popping out," he says smirking after opening my door and getting into the driver's seat.
"Excuse me?"
He looks at me like I'm crazy. "Over the car.."
"Oh right. Um, it's nice?"
He rolls his eyes and starts up the engine. "You don't know anything about cars do you."
"I know that this one is silver," I tell him grinning and he glares at me.
"Now stop talking, it's my turn," I tell him smiling softly.
An hour and a half ride in rush hour traffic, I'm bound to figure out what he is eventually.
He drives like a maniac but when he is caught in traffic I can see his eyes flicker with anger. I just smile. "So your not a guardian angel?
He smiles slightly and shakes his head. "No."
"Superman?"
"No.'
"Spiderman?"
"No."
"A wizard?"
"No."
"Batman?"
He looks at me rolling his eyes. "Could you please stop taking names from comic books. It's insulting."
He glare at him. "I'm not leaving anything unturned," I say simply and he sighs looking back at the road trying to find a way between two cars.
"A giant?"
"Do I look like a giant?"
I shrug. "It's not like I see them every day."
He sighs. "No, I'm not a giant."
I groan. This is going to be harder than I thought. He smirks seeing me getting frustrated. "Give up?"
"No," I say angrily and he chuckles sending the butterflies in my stomach swirling around.
"Are you a good guy or a bad guy?"
He doesn't say anything for a minute then glances at me. "Are there no gray area?"
"I don't know, you tell me. Your the mythical creature."
He shakes his head at me smiling. "I guess technically I'm the bad guy."
"But you saved me."
"Gray area."
"Are you a werewolf?"
He growls and the hairs on my neck stand up. "No," he says after a moment.
I nod thinking again. My eyes light up and I smile. He looks at me curiously and I smirk triumphant. "I know what you are."
"What am I?"
I don't answer and just smile staring out the window.
"Your not gonna tell me what you think?"
"Oh, I've already told you all my thoughts. But this one isn't a thought. It's fact."
"Can I have a hint?"
I think for a minute and shake my head. He glares at me. "How bad do you want to know?"I ask him and he looks back at me making my heart stop.
"What's your question," he asks groaning and I smile triumphantly.
"Are you going to disappear again?" I ask him and he looks taken back by my question.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean. You saved my life and didn't even stay long enough for me to thank you. Now your driving me home, will you stay long enough this time for me to thank you?"
He sighs and shakes his head. "No."
I glare out the window. It's quiet for a few minutes and the traffic starts disappearing slowly. "Are you going to tell me what your idea is?"
I don't answer him. He sighs. "If I wait around long enough for you to thank me, will you tell me?"
I still say nothing. "What do you want from me? You want some stranger you don't know, who is a mythical bad guy, to come by and visit you?"
"Yes," I say simply.
"Why?" he asks me curious and angry.
I shrug. "Why not?"
He hits the steering wheel and sighs. "Just tell me what you think."
"I think your a jerk."
He glares at me and the car lurches forward faster. "That doesn't mean to kill me!" I yell at him as the speed-o-meter reach 70.
He smirks at me. "Are you going to tell me?"
"Are you going to kill me if I don't?"
He shrugs. I sigh and look out the window. "Can you go out in sunlight?" I ask him and there's no answer.
I glance at him and he glances back at me. "Yes and no."
I look at him waiting for him to continue. "I won't burn up if that's what your asking," he says and I nod my head looking out the window again.
"Are you scared?" he asks me.
I keep my eyes outside. "No."
"Why?"
"Gray areas."
