I finish and my face turns pink as everyone in the restaurant begins to applaud. I look at Edward grinning and he glares at me for still being here. "I think we have our winner," the hostess announces and there is clapping once again. "What's your name sweetheart."
"Emma Porter."
"Nice to meet you Emma, you have an amazing voice. How old are you?"
"I'm sixteen."
"Your parents must be proud. Are they here?" she asks me smiling sweetly.
I feel a pain in my stomach and I just manage to shake my head. The woman looks at me confused and Edward stands up. "She's here with me," he says and I glance at him.
"Well you two go ahead and enjoy your meal," she says and points us towards a booth beside us.
"Thank you," Edward tells her and takes the menu handing it to me.
I sit there not saying anything and Edward just stares at me. "Go ahead and ask your questions. But I'm not promising to answer," he says simply and I smile.
"Who are you?"
"Edward Cullen."
"What are you?"
He glares at me. I roll my eyes. "Okay, different question. Were you the one who saved me."
"Yes."
"Why did you save me?"
"My father told me to."
"Who is your father?"
"Carlise Cullen."
"Was he in the hospital?"
"He worked there."
My heart stops and I swallow trying to get the words to come up for my next question. "Did... did he uh- know my parents?"
He looks at me for a few minutes but I can't read the expression on his face. He just nods after a minute and I drop my eyes to my hands that are folded together on the table. "Did he know me?"
"No."
"Then why did he tell you to save me?" I ask him confused.
He shrugs. "Your lying," I say simply and he glares at me.
"I told you, I'm not going to answer every question."
I pout and cross my arms across my chest. The waitress comes up and stares at Edward for a moment and snaps out of it looking at the both of us. "What can I get you two to drink?"
"Just a coke," Edward says and then looks up at me.
"Um, water?" I say never having had anything else to drink before.
She nods her head and leaves the table. "Are you hiding something from me?" I ask him and he looks at me unsure of where this is going.
"Yes," he says after a minute.
"Does it have to do with why you look the same as you did the night you saved me."
He hesitates for a minute and then nods his head. "Are you like my guardian angel?" I ask him excited and he chuckles.
My heart skips a beat at his laugh and I swallow again trying to keep my composure. "No, far from it."
I groan. "Oh great. You work for the devil don't you. I'm gonna die in a few minutes won't I?" I ask him sadly and he smiles softly at me.
"No, you won't."
We sit there in silence until the waitress returns with our drinks. "What can I get you to eat?" she asks me and I chew my lip.
"Peanut butter and jelly?" I ask her and she looks at me confused before looking at Edward.
Edward snorts holding in a laugh and my face turns hot. "She'll just have pasta and garlic bread please," he says and she nods her head before giving me one more strange look and leaving.
"Peanut butter and jelly?" he asks me raising an eye brow.
I shrug. "That's what we usually eat."
"We?" he asks me.

"The girls at the orphanage and I.""Orphanage?" He asks me and his voice sounds angry.
"Yeah," I answer him softly.
"I thought you were going to be put into a foster home?"
I glare at him. "Are you like stalking me?"
He shakes his head. "Carlise told me."
I sigh. For so long I thought I had blocked out that year. The year before I went to the orphanage. The reason I will do anything in my power to stop the girls and I from being put back into the system. "It's a long story," I say softly.
The waitress brings us some breadsticks and Edward thanks her pushing them towards me. I take one and rip small pieces off and chewing it. I've never tasted something so amazing. "I have time," he says shrugging and leaning back in the booth.
I smirk at him and he looks at me worried. "I'll tell you if you answer a question for me."
"It depends on the question."
I shake my head. "Nope. If you wanna know, you have to answer a question."
"Tell me the question and then I'll decide how badly I wanna know," he says smirking back.
I glare at him and finally give in. His face is just too beautiful to say no to. "What are you."
"Too specific," he says simply.
I think for a minute. "Are you a super-hero?"
"You'll be disappointed if you chose that question."
I groan and tug at a lock of hair trying to think of a question. "Why did Carlise tell you to save me?" I ask him softly and I look up at him.
His eyes change but I still can't read them. The lady comes with my food and leaves once again after we thank her. After I take a few bites Edward nods. "Okay, deal. You go first."
I glance at him worried. "You're going to back out," I state angrily.
He shakes his head. "I swear on my life I won't."
I get shivers down my back. "Just like you swore I wouldn't be alone," I say softly.
"You remembered that?" he asks me surprised.
I shrug. "I remember little things here and there. I guess seeing you in person for the first time triggered another part of my brain, and I remembered you telling me that."
He nods his head and smiles softly. "And you weren't alone were you?"
I sigh. "No, but after you here about the foster home you'll see that's not the best promise."
He sits very still, waiting for me to go on. My eyes search his face again for some type of clue as to what he is thinking but I come up with nothing. I take another bite. "I went to live with a couple named Sophia and Andrew," I start and I can't get myself to look at him while I tell the story.
"I stayed with them for a year. After a while, Andrew stopped coming home at night and Sophia would get so mad she'd hit me or punch me or kick me or something. Something to get her anger out basically. When Andrew would finally get home, Sophia would lock him out of the bedroom so, he'd well," I look for the right words to say but I can't find any. All I can come up with is, "He'd come sleep in my room."
I keep my eyes on my plate of spaghetti and take another bite still not looking up at Edward. I swallow a bite and look up to see Edward staring out the window. His jaw is clenched and his hands are in fists. "Your turn," I say softly trying to change the subject immediately and forget those memories as soon as possible.
He sits still for a minute until his face and body finally relaxes some. "The hospital caught on fire when I was there visiting my father. We tries to find as many people as could. I helped a few nurses and patients get out and then went to look for my father. He was yelling through a long line of fire and I knew he was trying to decide how to get through," he says, speaking slowly as if trying to remember or find the right words.
"There was a man and a woman on the other side," he says and glances at me.
My parents.
"They started crying and telling him not to come through the fire. That, if he wanted to save their life, to find their daughter Emma, because she was there life."
