“You know summer's around the corner,” Tatsuya announced, “when the ice cream vendors scatter the campus like locusts!” It was eight thirty in the morning and Tatsuya shoved his first fudgecicle of the day into his mouth.
; “You'll get sick Tatsuya-kun!” Benika admonished, Wakaba just frowned at him. But he was oblivious to the girls' protests as he slurped the syrupy ice confection hoping he won the prize written on the stick.
; “Utena's late again,” Wakaba mentioned sliding into her desk looking at Utena's empty one as Benika and Tatsuya took theirs, Benika's to the right of Utena and Tatsuya behind.
; “Well,” Tatsuya drawled, “the word is Utena caught some hell from the Seitokai. Even though they were the ones to reassign her dorm.”
; “Do you think it has to do with those awful things they wrote on the walls about her?” Wakaba asked, her liquid brown eyes trembling.
; “Blackboards,” Benika corrected her. “Besides Kiryuu and his posse wouldn't stoop that low. That's so elementary school!”
; “Then who did it?” Tatsuya queried.
; “Who else?” Benika smirked sardonically.
; CRACK! Anthy fell to heap by the sinks surrounded by Nanami's wrecking crew. “Shame on you Himemiya Anthy trading Saionji-sama for some city slattern!” Oose Yuko the shortest of the three ruffled her auburn hair pompously. Water doused from her golden pitcher soaked Anthy's hair plastering it to her sailor blouse then hurled by Wakiya Aiko 15 feet away where it skidded under the loggia.
; “Nanami-sama was kept awake all night because of you! Touga-sama locked himself in his study and refused all who came to his door!”
; “And here she waters her precious roses, reeking of her betrothed. Have you no shame?!” Pigtailed Sonoda Keiko hollered.
; “The only thing shameless here,” a voice accompanied by a 20-foot shadow engulfing the four girls, “are three brats ganging up on one girl.”

; “Did you sleep well, Nanami-kun?” Miki asked writing the chemical formula for borax. The blonde Kiryuu princess' sigh was fatigued.
; “As well as one can expect. I do apologize for keeping you awake last night by the way, Miki, Juri-san.” The three enjoyed their study period in the chemistry lab, Miki prepped for study group while Juri thumbed through a bowling catalogue and Nanami wandered around fiddling with the siphons and beakers.
; “Souieba, was that whole incident last night resolved?” Juri's focus was on a two-page ad for The Halcyon, a silicon and polymer ball with a tangerine marble finish. She would have her name embossed in gold above the finger holes.
; “Ah. I had no idea that Onii-sama was taking his advanced physics midterm earlier so he had to cram; he was quite upset early this morning. I just wished he would have informed me before I did anything unbecoming.” Miki and Juri rolled their eyes in unison. Nanami was synonymous for raising high holy hell where her beloved older brother was involved.
; “Well, he and Saionji-sempai are going to that kendo tournament on Tuesday so I presume they rescheduled their examinations,” Miki clicked his stopwatch and shut his formula notebook.
; “It'll be the first competition since Onii-sama was elected Student Council President.” Nanami gushed envisioning an elaborate award ceremony with her brother receiving the highest honors garlanded with red roses. “He may not be active as he once was with the kendo team, but he still is the best!”
Juri turned a page. “And what was that you were complaining about misplacing something?” Nanami's face rent an audacious red; Juri tilted her head when she didn't receive a quick response.
; “Oh yes! I thought I lost it, turns out it was in its place safe and sound all along!”
; “That's good to hear!” Miki congratulated her. “Whenever I get rattled I think I lose things. Once when I was giving a private concert at my parents' house I thought I tossed my sheet music into the fire. It took Kozue two and a half hours to set me straight, since my sheet music was in the piano bench the entire time!” Miki laughed good-naturedly, picturing himself digging through the fireplace ash, blackening his white tuxedo shirt and hands. While it incited such a calamity at the time now it seemed fitting for post-dinner anecdotes.
; “Well it's been fun,” Juri preened stretching her arms forward and arched her back enjoying her spine's crackle. “I'll be late for civics.”
            ; “Ja ne Juri-san.”
; “I'll see you at practice Juri-sempai!” She turned and waved to her underclassmen then wandered out into the corridor.

; The compact gondola of the elevator whirred and droned with an alien power, the boxes of phosphorescence lay down one brick at a time for their path traveling higher and tighter. The thin atmosphere crystallized them immobile from the flow and finesse of time that averted Ohtori. Ding! The doors slid apart and their shoed feet were silent on the miles of wine carpeting walking to the veranda, chosen for its optimum lighting. The dozens of maple doors Utena swept by following Anthy with their deep brown color and long claw footed silver handles comforted her, harkening of her first illicit visit to a hotel.
; “Eh! This place is great Himemiya! How did you know about this it?”
; “My older brother is the Deputy Chairman of this school. He's also a business major at the university.”
; “He's so young! Where is he now? Attending classes?”
Anthy shook her head uncovering the divans. “With his fiancée at the Ohtori estate.”
; “What a view! …Fiancée? Your brother's getting married? Omedetou!”
; “Arigato. Ohtori Kanae-san is my brother's fiancée, but these last few months have been hard on her. They've been forced to postpone the wedding, her father Ohtori's original chairman is dying.” A gasp caught in Utena's throat.
            ; “I'm so sorry.”
; “Don't worry about it Utena-sama. Have a seat and we'll get set up.” Once again Anthy floored her. Her would-be sister-in-law's father was dying and she gave it no further thought. “See? That's the tower where his offices are.” Anthy stood on the veranda and pointed to the epicenter of Ohtori. She pulled aside the scarlet velvet curtains with a snakelike hiss and bound them to one side. Sunlight flooded the terrace highlighting the wall behind them where every square inch was occupied with black and white and color framed photos or watercolor and oil paintings. All of them depicted Anthy, roses, and castles directly or were interpretations. There was one small portrait that held Utena in its thrall, that of a faceless youth, dark skinned and silver haired. Bedecked in white with his knee-length red lined cape dramatically flared, spread-eagled in a tower's doorframe. The sepia V on his chest illustrated an open jacket.
; `If you do not lose your noble heart then…'
; “Do you like that painting Utena-sama?”
; “Nani?” Utena's addled brain was a train wreck. Anthy's pencil worked furiously, eyes intent on the white sheet propped on her lap. She threw open her Croquis sketchbook and took a seat on a red velvet padded bench starting their new art assignment. `Your partner's essence… that's the goal of this exercise,' the teacher instructed his class and turned them loose into the world.
; “Would you like to have it?” Anthy offered never looking up.
; “A-are you kidding? You can't do that!”
; “Why not? My brother always gives away his artwork to friends.”
Utena was star struck. “Your brother did all of these?” She drew a finger from one end of the wall to the other.
; “We're in his workshop,” Anthy stated plaintively. “He made a handsome living as an artist before he got involved with the Ohtori family. In fact that's how they first met.”
; “But is it okay for us to be here?”
; “Like I said, he's with his fiancée. Besides he lets me do what I want… treats me like a princess.” Utena's heart floated noting the lack of conceit in Anthy's voice whereas other girls would parade that notion. Anthy's smile dimmed the sunlight.
; “I envy that… I'm an only child. I can't even remember my parents' faces. My aunt's kind, but she tries too hard to replace my mother. And Wakaoji… well scratch that… do you want me to sit since you got a head start?” Anthy shook her head.
; “It's no problem. It may be better if you stood looking away from me. My sole talent is doing profiles anyway, I'm nothing compared to my brother.” Utena strolled farther up admiring the Chairman's work. “He sounds terrific.”
; “He's multitalented. And that's one of the reasons why I love him best.” Anthy lifted twinkling emerald orbs to her betrothed running her fingertips over the glass of a photo of Anthy reclining on a Queen Anne sofa in a red and black velvet empire waist gown wearing a Skye tiara in her hair. The man whose lap her head rested on was cut out intentionally at the shoulders. His off-white ruffled poet's shirt was open to the navel. “Didn't you love someone, Utena-sama?” An eclipse shrouded the campus when a single pinpoint of light touched the wall behind Utena, like an assassin's laser scope.
; “There is someone, but he's longer with us.” The beam zeroed in on a family photo… “He was like my big brother… but more so…” A group of strangers in their Sunday best… “He knew a little magic. Whenever I'd think of him, he'd just appear…” The mother, dressed for high tea in a champagne chamois sweater and white slim skirt. Her brown hair pulled up in a chignon with S-shaped diamond earrings accentuating the subtle make up on her attractive face… “We'd spend hours together telling funny stories and climbing trees. He was the first person I'd tell my good news to. The first person whose shoulder I'd cry on. The first person who…” The father so brazenly handsome, starched white collar and cuffs on his dark shirt, slender white suspenders holding up tailored black pinstriped trousers eagerly puffed a pipe… “He was the next person to leave me. When I love them they leave me…” The son mature beyond his adolescence had quizzical indigo-blue eyes, and a keen intuition with red hair so vibrant it drew everyone's eyes to it… “I have no one to blame but myself, Himemiya. Yet at the same time I made a promise…” And the daughter, the starlet of the family with flaxen hair and kewpie doll good looks making her admirers recoil from her explosive tantrums… “I promised myself that I'd never lose anything again because he was the prince who taught me about the world.”
; Anthy plucked a colored pencil from the elderly cigar box on the three-legged glass end table. “Go on…”
; “Ne, when we get back to the dorm I want to show you something. It belonged to my father and it's real special to me. Since you showed me your brother's things it'd only be fair.”
; “All done!” Anthy dropped her pencil onto the cushion. Utena walked over.
; “Already? Let's see it!” Anthy flipped the sketchbook; it was of Utena sprawled on a red convertible's hood in a pink and black Rose Bride gown. One of her tiny pink pumps dangled from her toes. “Heh! It's pretty good! You capture detail so well, Himemiya. The gown's so totally not me though… I think the uniform suits you better.”
; “That's not my uniform Utena-sama.” She pulled the red and gold tie from under the wide collar letting it fly away over the balcony. “It's who I am. And the dress suits you perfectly, it could be Miki-sempai on that car and it would suit him. Don't you get it? `Your partner's essence… that's the goal of this exercise.' A prince Utena-sama is something you or anyone else here cannot become. A Rose Bride… a sword's sheath…” The firing of a jet engine pervaded the area gaining speed.
; “Himemiya…” The ruby afternoon sun tumbled out onto the stone tiles, the engine's roaring drowned out Utena's shouting. “HIMEMIYA!” An aperture over her shadow's heart… no that was insane. Nothing could damage a shadow, because no one expects anything of a shadow. The jet boomed; only a cloudy snail trail on the clear blue lingered. “Himemiya…” A star fell in Utena's belly, tears dribbled down her flushed cheeks. Her bride stood barefoot in her unbuttoned skirt and classy black lace bra.
; “Here let me help you…”
; “Himemiya we don't-” Anthy began prying apart Utena's jacket.
; “Up to your usual tricks, Himemiya?” Utena unintentionally pushed Anthy backward roughly at the sound of their condescending trespasser. Juri posed with her arms folded under her impressive breasts inclined against the red girder.
; “What do you want Juri-sempai?” The leopard strutted past the champion and picked up Anthy's sketchbook off the floor.
; “Is this Himemiya's? It's quite good. Of course the dress isn't you Tenjou.”
; “Why are you here sempai?” Juri watched Anthy button her sailor blouse and sit to roll her bobby socks over her slim ankles through a slit glare. “If you hate Himemiya so much, why are you after her?”
; “Why do you care?” The fencer snapped. “Did she babble about that brother of hers? Tell you about his work?” She ticked her curly head to the wall. “Well I'll tell you a little something Tenjou… don't believe a word of it!” Stalking over to Anthy who looked up at her steadily Juri pushed her down with one hand on her tiny shoulder.
; “Sempai!” Juri smirked at the Rose Bride acidly ignoring Utena's empty threat then kissed her hard and deep. Utena blanched as Anthy responded to Juri gracefully curling her arms around the taller girl's willowy neck and shoulders. Juri parted her mouth from Anthy's, a silvery spider web filament still connecting them. Anger flared and the orange rose slapped Anthy. “Juri!” Utena went for her.
; “Don't get yourself riled up over nothing Tenjou. You can come out now Touga.” Juri pulled her shirttails adjusting her jacket Utena halted seeing the curtain ripple as the statuesque figure of the Student Council President materialized. “And as you can see Tenjou, who really brought you here.” Glancing from Juri to Anthy's blank smile to Touga's unreadable face Utena was boxed in. He was going to actually watch, watch as they…
; “Why do you hate me? What did I ever do to you? I don't even know you!” It was the only thing Utena was hard-pressed to come up with.
; “Don't flatter yourself Tenjou,” Touga joined Anthy on the bench. “You were only doing what comes natural… didn't Ruka tell you that already?” He kindly smoothed her violet hair.
; “What would you know about it? I don't know why I'm wasting my time! You're an animal anyway!”
; “Are we not all animals?” He undid Anthy's sailor blouse. “You bark at me, but you dare not bite. What is holding you back?” Touga reached around and unsnapped her bra pushing the tiny straps down her shoulders. “What's wrong Utena?” A breeze toyed with his open jacket his muscles shifted with latent power under clear skin. “If you don't like it,” he paused to lower his red mane down to Anthy's breast and sucked the nipple, “then do something about it.” He challenged.
Utena's chest heaved tangled between wanting to shove Touga off the balcony and enrapt with watching their foreplay. Anthy expertly unsnapped his pants and wedged a hand inside. “Yamero…”
; “Ahh… Ohhh… Baby…” It was the push that was necessary for rage to win the battle and with her crotch overflowing Utena broke them up as Anthy humped Touga's leanly muscled thigh.
; “I said stop it!” Utena took the bait and the bear trap snapped tight on her foot.
; “Utena-sama…” Anthy traced sensual trails up and down her arms twirling her fingers into Utena's. “You're so cute when you're upset.” Sweat rolled down Utena's flat belly icing her flesh.
; “Thank you Anthy.” Touga dismissed her. She dressed and bowed then exited the veranda. Utena vainly pulled back with both her wrists clamped in his left hand. He grinned amusedly as if she were a child trying to avoid a bath. “Come now Utena, don't be that way.”
            ; “Fuck you!” She spat.
; “Yes I know…” With Utena in tow he examined a covered piece of furniture. “This will do.” For what Utena could guess at and when he uncovered a chaise lounge her struggling turned ardent.
; “Hanashite!” Touga sprawled her under him on the lounge and wrestled with him. “Bastard! What do you want with me?” Touga yanked his red braids from the red zipper seam. He bound her wrists together and tied the ends of the braids to the wooden frame. Touga took his time pressing his hands down over her breasts feeling the elongated solidity of her blade.
; “What's this?” He carefully twisted open each button and flipped open her jacket. Tucked in a makeshift hidden pocket in the satin lining was the tanto. “You know the school's policy on concealed weapons…” He haughtily spun it by the tip and pommel cap between his index fingers. Utena wanted to spit in his pretty face but could only grunt heatedly behind clenched teeth. Touga slid the flat blade beneath her black tank top and turned it on the blunt side incising the material upwards. Utena's squinted in panic as Touga gathered her breasts in his tapered fingers brusquely squeezing her cherry blossom nipples. He kneaded the mounds of hoary flesh, sculpting them enjoying the shape of her curves built like a track runner so different from Anthy's maternal fullness. Touga plumped each breast flattening and fattening the nipples then tongued each aureole like candy before sucking them into his hot oral cavity. Utena tossed her head to the side, her moans piercing not wanting to enjoy this pleasure but her treacherous body dictated otherwise. “Sorry to keep you waiting darling…” Repeating the same actions as he did with her shirt he cleanly cut through the panties and Lycra shorts discarding them. Teasingly he tapped the end of Utena's nose with the tip of the tanto. “Such a nasty thing,” and pitched it over the balcony. “Unlike that lovely dress in Himemiya's drawing. Perhaps I'll get you one.”
“I don't want anything from you, you filthy son of a bitch!” Suffused with red her chest heaved, energy sapped and ready to accept her fate Utena groaned pathetically. Chuckling cruelly Touga scooted to the end of the lounge pulling off her shoes and red anklets. He lovingly rubbed her feet, his thumbs traced her arches and bringing her feet up to his mouth and sucked her toes one at a time. Numbly Utena thought what a fetishist Touga must be and kept her sights riveted on him wondering at his next move. His tongue bathed a long strip from the back of her heel to her knee. “Such beautiful legs you have Utena…” He moaned paying homage to her other. Like an epicure of some fine foreign delicacy he pored lustfully over her toned lower appendages, curving a large hand around her inner thigh and pinched deeply. Touga's fingers gathered up the gushing moisture of her orifice and he pushed out her legs for them to dangle on either side of the lounge to inspect her sex. He sighed happily burying his face in her pubis, Touga's ruby satiny hair intensified her torture; Utena's gasps were so uneven she was afraid of hyperventilation. Touga sniffed and growled acting as if he were deliberately denying himself from whipping out his thick cock and stabbing it into her creamy channel. “You're dripping Utena, my bad little girl…” He pulled apart her labia drawing a feline-like yelp from her. “I'm so flattered you're shaved darling. Besides you're so beautiful, looking just like a rose. You should see yourself engorged three times your normal size.” His long pink meat lapped at Utena's rose from perineum to clit hard and deep, skewering into the portal. Utena's inner muscles contracted around Touga's tongue, she grabbed his head not to stop him but to keep it at a distance for her to see. He kissed her bald mons and her muscles spasmodically reacted almost kissing him back. Touga rolled his tongue and impaled her. Utena's shrieks were with absolute certainty heard throughout the campus, as the orgasm flashed hollowly but virulently lacerating her to slips of golden light cognizant of only the beating feet of a four-legged white beast gaining on her.

“Utena-sama? Utena-sama?” Anthy shook her mistress who had dozed. Utena sat up feeling her body resting on an armchair; the stars replaced the sun so long ago as they worked tirelessly on the private veranda losing all concept of time.
“What happened?” She asked her voice rough from sleep.
Anthy packed the cigar box into her briefcase. “I'm afraid you dozed off Utena-sama. But now it's almost dinnertime and I hadn't defrosted anything…” Anthy vexed. Utena had stopped paying attention. Rubbing her fingertips together they felt silky from black graphite coating, but Anthy held both their sketchbooks and Utena absently wondered what her drawing was since it was the obvious dream she could only recall. “I'll drop these off at Morioka-sensei's office- he'll understand. The cafeteria should be serving supper-”
; “Screw that Himemiya! I think this school cramps me sometimes. Let's head to town and eat at Lando's, Wakaba can't talk enough about it! My treat?” The Rose Bride smiled warmly at the thought of getting some fresh air.
            ; “Hai.”
