1) Sorrows
AJ Angelique

Once more, the woman had been comissioned to create another Soul Doll. Someone alive yet not alive looking for love...but this one would be more of a sibling to the one it was being made for. She had expressed her concerns in the matter but the parents wouldn't listen. They wanted two children but mother nature deemed them worthy of one for after the birth of their first child, the mother had to be fixed least she'd want to die in the next childbirth. So they came to her, their last hope in helping them to complete their family.

So she took their DNA and that of the child, the one the doll would love and protect. After several weeks of work, the time had come to bring the doll to life one stormy night. The parents were out of town and the ten year old child was the only one present. The child stood on the other side of the table and watched as the woman worked her magic and brought the doll to life.

In a single flash of lighting, the doll opened its eyes and then sat up. First it looked at the woman, and then it looked at the child. The two looked at each other for countless moments as the woman felt the tension grow between them. Then, it the blink of an eye, everything went horribly wrong...

Tears.

Hot salty tears stung her eyes and nearly blinded her. Utena Tenju had just attened her parents' funeral and hadn't cried a single tear during the service. She had refused to cry in the presence of all those people, most of whom were strangers to her but not to her dead parents. But those whom she knew, she felt she had to be strong for them as they wept their tears. Now, alone in her car, she wept to her heart's content as she drove down the muddy backroad in the middle of the night as heavy unforgiving rains poured down on her car, as if they were trying to either invade and wash away the tears or compete with them.

Yet it wasn't just any car, it was her pink sports car that she had custom made last spring, the one with the sleek desgin and the horse heads on the headlights with room for one person. Normally, driving it would make her feel better...but tonight, there was a emptiness deep in her chest that she felt would never be filled. Both the tears and the emptiness distracted her from her driving and when she turned ontoong ong strech of straight road, a big white horse jumped out in front of her car. Utena gasped and turned the steering wheel to the right, the direction the horse had appeared from, and slammed down on her breaks. There would be no loud squealing of tires for the road was to slick and muddy, but there would the gut wrenching sound of breaking glass and groaning metal as the car collided with several trees. If itn'tn't been for the fact that Utena was wearing her special harness style seatbelt, she woudn't had survived the crash. Instead, she would have been thrown from the car to either be sliced in half by the wind sheild, crush her skull on the trees, drown in the mud or snap her neck. Instead, her head had merely struck the backwall and the blow was enough to knock her out cold...

While she was out, she had a dream...

She was on the playground of Otohori Academy once again. She was ten years old, once again. Around her, the other children played.

Touga, Nanami, Miki, Kozue, Juri, Shiori, Wakaba, Seioinji, Keiko, Yuuko, Aiko, A-ko and B-ko all played on the playground as Utena stood in the middle of them all, alone in the sandbox.

Playground school bell rings again.

All of the children, save for Utena ran inside as she loooked up at the sky.

Rain clouds come to play again.

Utena shivered as she rubbed her arms, she felt cold and alone in these familar surroundings as the sky began to weep for her. Suddenly, she heard it. She looked up with a small gasp as that familar female voice called out to her. Normally, it was distant but this time was closer. Utena whirled around, frantic to find the source of the voice. Finally, her eyes reached the swings where she saw another girl. She was about the same asge as her with light brown skin, long purple hair pulled up into curls and wore a er ler like red dress. She sat on a swing with her back to Utena, still calling her name.

Now that she was closer than before, Utena was determined to see her face. So she took a step forward...

Slowly but surely, Utena came back to the realm of the living. She knew she was alive because of the throbing pain in her head. She let out a low moan and touched a tentativ hand to her head. She then opened her eyes and looked aroto fto find herself in a room. It was a simple fairly large baise room with many interesting furnishings. Like the bed she was in. It looked more like a strange peice of art work made for two people to lay in, side by side and head by head...or feet by feet, depending on how they wanted to lay. Utena propped herself up and looked around, trying to figure out where she was as the door opened. Utena whirled around and was riserised to see a woman enter the room wearing an elegant looking red dress with long gauze like puffy sleves and a golden crown on her head. Yet she looked vaugely familar...maybe it was her hair, her purple hair pulled up into curls...yet, her ghostly looking eyes hidden behind those round glasses gave her a hint of not really being there.

"Ah, I see you're awake," the girl said in a soft, meek like voice as she carried in a tray with some soup, "I thought you'd be awake soon so I made you some soup." The girl approached the bed and sat on the empty side where she placed the tray between them.

"I'm sorry, but who are you?" Utena asked.
"How rude of me, my name in Anthy Himenia," the girl said.
"My name is Utena Tenju."
"It's nice to finally meet you Miss Tenju..." Anthy started.
"Please, call me Utena."
"If you wish, Utena. Frankly though, I'm glad to see you awake after what happened last night," Anthy said.
"What did happen last night?" Utena asked.
"You had a horrible car accident and your car crashed. Thankfully, my brother was out riding last night and saved you," Anthy said.

"Brother?" Utena asked with a raised eyebrow and Anthy smiled.

Anthy led Utena downstairs and to the back yard where the grey stone patio awaited them. Anthy opened the white fring glass paned French double doors and Utena's senses were assaulted by the stronangaangance of roses. Once outside, she soon saw why. The patio was flanked on the left and right side by hedges dripping with white roses. Yet the stone steps leading into the back yard were left untouched by the bushes.

In the middle of the 20ft by 25ft patio is a white washed French cafe style table and four chairs. On the table sits a silver tea tea with just enough delictiables for three people's breakfast. Sitting in the chair farthest from the girls is Akio. His legs crossed as he rests his left elbow on the table and his head on his fisted right hand as he watches several small birds feed from the seed in his cupped right hand. At the same time, another bird is perched on top of his head and cleans its feathers.

Utena can't seem to help but stare at him in awe. Who wouldn't blame her, what with his long silvery white hair left to hang losse like a second cape, him dressed in that stunning white prince's suit from the show and the front of said suit left open to expose his chest to the world. As if to add to the effect, the morning sun sparkled on his skin, as if to make him look radiant and pure.

"Miss Tenju, this is my brother Akio Otohori," Anthy said politely and Akio looked at the girls.
"Ah, I see our guest is finally awake," he said and discarded the seed on his right side of the patio. The birds in his hand flew away only to go after the seed on the floor and the bird in his hair soon joined the others in the pursuit of breakfast.

"Yes. Would you please call me Utena, Miss Tenju sounds too formal," Utena said.
"As you wish Miss Utena," Anthy said in her usual erriely cherry manner and Akio smiled.
"You must forgive my sister Utena, she has a will of her own. Would you care to join us for breakfast?" he asked.

"Yes, I would," Utena said. Akio first held out a chfor for her and then one for Anthy before he himself sat down, something that made Anthy raise an eyebrow before she turned her attention to the tea pot.

"I don't mean to be rude, but what has become of my uniform?" Utena asked as Akio passed her a blueberry muffin. When Utena was in the car, she was wearing her navy blue boy's uniform for her school. But now she was wearing a strange suit similar to Akio's. The one that the Utena in the movie wore.

"I'm afraid that it was so torn and blood soaked that we had to destory it," Anthy said.
"Torn? Blood?" Utena asked, begining to get worried.
"Yes, you had a nasty gash on your head but my sister has tended to your wounds. She's such an excellent healer, I can hardly see any trace of the wound," Akio said.

"Odd. I don't feel as if I've been in an accident," Utena said as she touched her head and began to mentally feel out her body for any unusual pains.

"Miss Utena, would you care to tell us why you were out so late during a storm?" Anthy asked, hoping to change the subject as passpassed the pink haired girl a cup of tea.

"Anthy," Akio scolded with a glare and Anthy adverted her eyes to her lap with her hands.
"No, it's okay. I don't mind," Utena said and Anthy looked up at her, this hidden look of releif in her eyes.

"So, why were you out so late in a stormAkioAkio asked before he sipped some tea.
"I was running away from wor world," Utena said, her voice etched with the razor edge of saddness that both Akio and Anthy couldn't help to notice.

"Maybe you should start from the beginging and work your way from there," Anthy suggest. Utena nodded and gathered her breath as she foucused her mind on the last month.
