Prologue~~ The Triumphant Return

A flash of blue light filled the midnight sky lighting up a once bleak landscape. A black silhouette floated down and her feet lightly touched down on the dusty earth of her high school track.

"I'm home." Was all that was said into the silent chilled air as she began her short trek back to the house where her family had given her up for a runaway…or worse. She arrived at the house she had not seen in over two months. She stopped at the brick walk that led up to her parent's front door. She sighed and walked slowly up the steps. She reached for the door handle and froze. Her hand dropped and she stood staring at the door. Her eyes filled with tears as she remembered what she left behind. A lonely tear rolled down her cheek and fell casually to the ground. "Oh, Van."

The girl reached for the door handle again but clenched her fist and knocked weakly on the door. Silence filled her ears. Her tears clouded her vision and she sat on the top step. She cried through the night. She cried through the sunrise. She was still crying when her father found her that morning as he was leaving for work.
