Chapter 4 Circus

As expected, the day was quite a circus. The servants were definitely surprised to find the King back, but even more surprised to find his arms around a young lady. The questions poured from their mouths.

"Who is she? Where did she come from? Why are you both soaking wet!? Is this your chosen bride!? When is the wedding!? Is she good enough to be with your majesty!?"

Hitomi looked up at Van and saw a blush cover his face as the questions began to get more personal. She knew that someone had to start talking and from the look on his face, he didn't know where to start.

The room was dead silent as the young girl in the king's arms stood up and faced the crowd. The few in the crowd who recognized her began to murmur things about the mystic moon and the bringer of peace to Gaea. The others were in shock at the clothes that she wore and wondered of her origin.

"I am Hitomi Kanzaki, the girl from the mystic moon. I have returned to see your king for personal matters. I may be staying for a while, so I hope that you will allow me to be part of your city. Please forgive me for the inconvenience, and my appearance. I did not wish to cause any trouble."

She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked back to see Van. He looked so dignified as he began to speak. He had truly grown into a man…

"Hitomi is my guest and will be staying in the castle with me. She is to be treated as a guest and is allowed into my quarters at any time."

With the last statement, the crowd was again buzzing. They began commenting on the legend of the wing goddess and the mystic moon. They also had a lot to say about her staying in the palace.

Van squeezed her shoulder and smiled. His eyes told her that everything would be alright. His again made his presence known with a lifting of his hand. The group hushed and looked on as the king began to speak.

"If you would all quiet down, I will answer as many of your questions as I feel are necessary. I will accompany you to the main hall as soon as I am changed. Hitomi is to be shown to her new quarters and given clothes to change into. I want her to be there when I answer your questions, so that she can have input on what I answer. Please wait outside for a moment."

The servants and advisers left in a hustle and closed the oak door behind them. Van stayed still until they had all gone and then turned Hitomi around to face him.

"I am sorry we were interrupted in such a way. I hope that it wasn't embarrassing for you."

She smiled and put her arms around him. Leaning forward she brushed her lips against his and then put her head on his chest.

"I wasn't embarrassed…but I think that your servants were."

He laughed for a second and hugged her close. They stayed like that until they heard a knock at the door. The king sighed and led Hitomi to the door.

"I will see you in a few minutes," he whispered and then proceeded to open the door.

A female stood outside the door. Hitomi stopped for a minute and then her eyes widened. The grown woman in front of her was Merle! The cat girl had filled out and was now as beautiful as Naria and Eriya.

"Merle?"

"Hitomi! I knew it HAD to be you!"

Merle embraced her as she began to cry. Hitomi hugged her friend back, and glanced back at Van. He smiled and his violet eyes fixed warmly on the cat girl.

"Merle missed you…She became a lady of the court and helped me rebuild Fanelia. She is married to a duke from Asturia. She will be showing you to your room."

Merle lifted her head and wiped the teats from her eyes. Taking Hitomi's hand she nodded to Van and started dragging Hitomi away. Hitomi glanced back and saw Van wave and then retreat back into his room. The girl leading her had already started asking questions and all Hitomi could do was try to keep up.
