Chapter 5 Hectic
Hitomi was being pulled along an elegant hallway. Stumbling to keep up with the excited Merle, she noticed that all the servants were staring at her.
`They must think I look pretty weird because of my strange, wet clothing…of course wouldn't think that.'
She couldn't stop looking at the beautiful hallway. It looked like it was made of stone, but there was carpet-like material under her feet. The material was a brilliant red.
Due to the attention grabbing surroundings, it's no wonder she ran into her friend's back when they reached their destination.
Merle opened the large oak doors and continued inside. Hitomi however was awestruck. The room was fit for a queen. The large canopy bed in the middle stole her breath, while the ornate furniture made her begin to drool. To her left was large bathroom with a tub, and to the right Merle had opened some hidden closet doors and begun to take out dresses.
Hitomi listened thoughtfully as her friend chatted on about her husband and child, and how Van had rebuilt the homeland that she remembered.
"The people of Fanelia love Lord Van, he is there savior. He has made the city into a metropolis again. He has also taken the time to set up orphans in nice homes."
Hitomi smiled. She knew Van would be a wonderful king. Merle grabbed her attention again when she mentioned Allen.
"Millerna left Dryden to marry Allen and they live in Asturia now."
Hitomi blushed for a moment thinking of the man who gave her her first kiss. She was happy that he had finally realized that he would be happy with Millerna. She would love him unconditionally, and although she wasn't the sister Allen fell in love with, they could start a new family together.
Merle stopped talking and looked back at her friend.
"Van has been so lonely without you, Hitomi. He wouldn't even take a bride when he came of age. The council was pressuring him but he never gave in. I know that he loves you."
Hitomi's blush deepened as she looked at her friend.
`Does Van really love me?'
Hitomi was awakened when a gown was thrown at her face. She heard the cat girl's giggle and she leaned down and picked up a pillow from the end of the bed.
"This is war!"
The girls began hitting each other with pillows until they were both on the floor choking with laughter. They went quiet as soon as a knock was heard from the door.
"As soon as the Lady Hitomi is ready, she is requested in the banquet hall for dinner."
Merle helped her friend up and then hugged her tightly.
"We have to get you ready for Lord Van and you will get to meet my husband as well."
Htiomi picked the dress up off the floor and noticed how delicate it looked. Merle helped her put it over her head and tie it in the back.
"You look like the future queen of Fanelia."
Hitomi couldn't believe her eyes. The dress fit her perfectly and it was red, so it brought out the green in her eyes. She continued to watch as Merle put her hair into a bun and completed it with a satin bow of the same color as the dress.
"I think Van will love this dress," Merle said with a sly smile.
Hitomi elbowed her in the side for causing the blush staining her cheeks and walked to the door. They had a dinner to get to.
Meanwhile…
After Hitomi left, Van rushed to get ready. He couldn't stand not seeing her for another moment. He changed clothes in a flash and began searching through his drawers. He let out a sigh when he found what he was after.
`My mother's ring…Tonight after dinner I will ask Hitomi the question that has been on my mind since she left.'
"Will you marry me Hitomi?"
After he mumbled the words, he put the ring in his pocket ran out the door. His lonely life might actually have happiness in it, if Hitomi answered the way he hoped she would.
