Chapter 6 The Question and The Answer

With the opening of the doors, the room fell silent. Van was seated at the back of the room on a marble throne. He held his head high as his advisors sat below at a long oak table. All eyes shifted onto the lovely woman entering the banquet hall.

When Hitomi reached the steps below the throne, she bowed. Van smiled at her nervousness and began to walk down to where she was. The young woman hardly recognized this handsome, regal king that used to be a skinny little prince. Her heart melted as his hand reached out and he smiled at her. She took his hand and he led her up to where he normally sat.

"This is the Lady Hitomi. Any questions about her, she and I will answer according to our descretion."

The crowd began taking turns asking its questions. The advisors, men dressed in crimson robes, were especially interested in this lovely girl that held the attentions of their king. They asked of her origins and her lineage.

"She is from the Mystic Moon. She was the Wing Goddess and savior of Gaiea many years ago. She helped foil the plans Zaibach and my brother Folkien. She is a great woman who deserves our respect."

This statement made Hitomi blush crimson but what came next made her want to faint.

" She is worthy of any title here in Fanelia, however, I would like to ask her if instead of Lady Hitomi, she would mind becoming known as Queen Hitomi…"

With that statement made he turned to her, pulled out his mother's ring, and kneeled before her.

"Hitomi Kanzaki, The Wing Goddess, visitor from the Mystic Moon, and the keeper of my heart, will you stay here in Gaiea and become my wife?"

She was speechless as was the rest of the crowd. There was a slight murmur among the advisors as they watched the young lady for any sign of a decision. Merle was seated at the table with her hands covering her mouth in anticipation.

`My knees are shaking…Did he really just ask me what I thing he asked me?'

Tears began to fall from her cheeks. Van's expression began to falter as he saw her weeping. At this moment he was more afraid than when he had battled in Escaflowne against Dilandau. His fears dissipated the moment Hitomi leapt toward him and began nodding profusely. Even through her tears the crowd managed to hear a clear `yes.' And an `I love you' to follow.

King Van swept the woman into his arms and the crowd began to rejoice. The king's advisor's were already readying the guest list and the festivities. Merle ran to the couple and joined in their celebration. The party was just beginning…
