Van was at his usual place by the West Tower of the Castle. Fanelia was starting to grow, together with the help of Asturia and Freid. Tomorrow will be the day that they will all recognize the day that Fanelia had returned to its former prestige. Allen and the others will be there to celebrate. All except her. Hitomi. How he wished to see her again. Never in his dreams did he saw her smiling back at him. He was scared to talk to her even from the distance that separated them. He never had the chance to tell her how much he loves her even to the brink of sending her back to her world. The Mystic Moon.
Van suddenly groped for Hitomi's necklace. He always wore it, keeping the presence of her beside him at all times. This time, his heart was as though being squeezed shut.
“Hitomi… What's happening?” asked Van. He kept staring at the shining pendant in his hands. As though on cue, a pillar of red light brandished upon the night. Van's hunches became true.
“Please let it be her. Hitomi.”
Van ran across the stairs, not taking his glaze from the pillar of light. Just as sure as it appeared, it quickly vanished. Van stopped at his tracks, not sure whether to follow the now gone track of light or just stand there thinking.
“Van! The pillar of light…,” shouted Allen Schezar who was scurrying downstairs to meet the young king.
“I saw it too Allen, but…”
“But what, Van? It might be Hitomi,” asked Allen.
The young king faced the window opposing the mountains. He contemplated before answering the knight's question.
“I don't know how to approach her,” said Van.
“For God's sake, Van why broke down now? All those years you've been
wishing to see her again and now you don't know what to do? If you won't, then I will,” said Allen in disbelief. Allen Schezar was about to leave Van when a soldier approached them.
“Van-sama a woman was found near the palace gates,” reported the soldier.
“A woman? Does her clothing similar to ours?” asked Allen.
“No sir. She was dressed differently from us. She was unconscious and--”.
It was all Van needed to hear to rush outside the castle to his Hitomi. They arrived at the place where the soldiers held Hitomi. It was a gloomy little shed, which was weaponry prior. The soldiers were all curios about the visitor, the girl in the strangest clothes they have ever seen. Van arrived at the shed and saw his Hitomi unconsciously lying in a cushion that was hastily prepared. Van approached her while Allen asked the soldiers about what they have seen.
“All we saw was the red pillar of light appearing before us. We were guarding the northern part of the castle when the light appeared. When it vanished, we saw this lady on the ground,” said the soldier who notified the king.
“Hitomi,” whispered Van to the sleeping Hitomi.
“I see,” said Allen. He noticed one soldier was bleeding and sporting a broken arm. “What happened to him?” asked Allen, nudging the injured soldier.
“He was attacked, sir,” answered the other soldier.
“Attacked? By who?” asked Van, now standing when he heard that one of his soldiers was injured while in his land. In his very own castle!
The soldiers looked at each other, as though asking whether it is safe to reveal the identity of the attacker. Van was growing impatient.
“Well? Who?” asked Van one more time.
The soldiers all looked down. A minute after, the injured soldier pointed to Hitomi's way. Van and Allen traced the direction the hand was pointing into and when it landed into Hitomi, they looked at each other.
“Hitomi? How… Why…. How did this happen?” asked Allen.
“Hitomi would never do such a thing! Are you accusing her Allen?” yelled Van at Allen.
“I am not accusing Hitomi of anything, Van. Please release me from your grip,” said Allen. Van withdrew his hands but still glared at Allen. Allen continued to ask the injured soldier. “Could you explain to us what happened?” Allen motioned for the other soldier. “And please notify a medic, we need to attend to his wounds right away. He is losing blood.”
“Yes sir. A medic is now on the way, sir,” saluted the soldier.
“When we found her, I asked one of my men to notify you at once, My Lord. Then when we approached her, examine her for wounds, she stood up and called us names in a language that we don't understand. Then she took out a weapon, some sort of a short sword and started attacking us. We defended ourselves but Okubo here was badly beaten because he was the one nearest to the lady,” explained the soldier.
“So she was the first to attack. Maybe she was scared at that moment,” said Van.
“We have to wait for Hitomi's explanation about this. I am sure that there's a reason behind all of this,” said Allen.
“I thank you and your men for doing this,” said Van to his soldiers. “Though, I am sorry that you have to suffer this.” He added to the injured soldier who was called Okubo by the captain.
“It is our duty, sire,” replied by the soldiers and saluted in respect for their king.
Van took Hitomi to his arms and, together with Allen, went back to the castle.
After settling Hitomi to one of the guest quarters of the castle, Van and Allen proceeded in the lobby to discuss about Hitomi's sudden appearance in Gaea. In the middle of their discussion, Merle and Princess Millerna entered the room.
“Van-sama!” yelped Merle and jumped into Van.
“Merle! Princess Millerna!” said Allen. He bowed down to acknowledge the presence of the princess of Asturia.
“Forgive our intrusion. Is it true that Hitomi is here at Gaea?” asked Millerna.
“Yes. It is true. She sleeping at the adjacent room as of now,” answered Van.
“Is it also true that she attacked one of the guards?” asked Merle, who now stopped licking Van.
“I am afraid, it is,” replied Allen. Van walked to the large windows and watched the moon lit the now rebuilt Fanelia. He had worked so hard to restore Fanelia to the land he once knew. Even though the years he had endured after Hitomi left Gaea to return to her world, he struggled to do his task as king of Fanelia. He hoped that one day, Hitomi would return to his arms and he would be able to show her Fanelia. But now, now that she has returned and his wish was answered, Van didn't know what to feel about things. Yes, he was happy that Hitomi's here with him, but the change of feelings and Hitomi's supposed attack to one of his soldiers caused him great doubt. When Hitomi first got here, a war broke out. It seems that Hitomi's appearance in Gaea always brings something negative. Now that Hitomi is here again, there must have happened back at her world, the Mystic Moon, to trigger something like that to Hitomi. Of course, there are times when he wished mightily that Hitomi would be here at Gaea one more time, but try as he might, that wish just wouldn't let to be fulfilled. Van sighed heavily to himself.
Hitomi, what happened back at your world?
