Chapter Twenty Seven: Evil

Seibu took the pink pendant in her hands, squeezing it violently. I want this power!!! she screamed to herself, gripping it and just wanting to rip it in half and smash the small stone with a blast of power.

Instead, she calmly walked over to her desk, where the inscriptions of the Atlantian language sat. It was almost done, she couldn't wait for it to finished. She would rule all of Gaea, she would rule the universe!!

Dilandau walked into the room, hearing his wife's maniacal laughter, her hands fisted at her side. He found himself wondering if she more insane than himself. Sometimes she scared him...like now. Sure he laughed like that, but at least he didn't do it when he wasn't provoked.

He strode over to her, touching her shoulder. He felt a stinging pain lance up his arm, causing it to burn painfully. He ripped it back; holding it and wishing the pain would go away. Seibu hadn't even noticed it, she was still laughing so crazily that she had tears running down her face. He watched with wide eyes as she stuck her hand out, palm up. A ball of energy gathered in it slowly, and then she turned around. Her eyes were red.

"Dilandau, my dear, is there something you want?"

His eyes still wide, he smirked. "I wish I had your power," he murmured to her. Her power fascinated him, yet made him jealous. He wanted to take it from her, to show her that he was the one who was supposed to be more powerful.

She spoke again, her voice sounding deeper; a small echo as it bounced off the walls. "Hold out your hand."

He was hesitant; afraid she would burn him. He held it out, palm up just as she had hers. He felt his blood pulsing through his body in an intense adrenaline rush. He watched her as she made the ball a little smaller, for it had been the size of a bowling ball. It was now the size of a softball. She took hold of his hand with hers, the one that wasn't gathering the energy. Dilandau felt a slight burn, almost pleasant. His smirk returned at the feel.

Seibu had the feeling he would like this. She placed the ball of energy in his hand, crushing his fingers around it until it shrank from the condensing pressure. Dilandau gritted his teeth, he felt as if something intense was being forced into his body from the powerball, as she called them. Soon the ball was no more as it was absorbed into his hand.

Seibu watched her husband as he trembled from feelings he wasn't used to. She wondered if it had been too much for him, for compared to her, he was a weakling. Weeks of healing from giving birth and finding more secrets from her book and the pendant had inflamed her, making her grow to a stronger power that soon wouldn't ever be challenged.

He had to burn something. Destroy something, anything. He stalked from the room, at first walking, and then running madly. When he got to the guymelef docking area, he didn't even ask how Seibu had gotten there before him. She had powers he wasn't even aware of, and sometimes it scared him when she would just materialize out of no where. She had just started doing it a few days ago, and he still hadn't gotten used to it. Especially when he had been training his enormous army and she had just emerged into his view right next to him. Her hair had been a little on end, but then had flattened as it did after a while. He shook his head as he got into his Stormsaider, laughing at what he was about to do.

People chanting...louder...louder...yelling, screaming, pounding footsteps. More screams of agony. She opened her eyes, finding her world to be silver, a strange glowing silver that made her wonder if she had those funny colored sun glasses on. She wanted to smile, but she found that she was too serious in this vision.

She was floating high above the ground; some sort of electricity was buzzing through the air...or was it through her? She didn't know, all she knew was that she felt odd, like she could destroy anything with a simple thought, kill someone with the blink of an eye. She had some sort of long white robe on, that went past her feet about a good two feet as she floated high above the screaming people rushing through the streets to get away from something. She looked around, finding odd white buildings...and something she hadn't noticed before as she had watched the people...they had wings. Every person had a pair of beautiful white wings that streamed out behind them as they ran.

She felt a gathering energy inside her, and saw a light silver glow surround her, engulfing her whole body and spreading out until she was inside a giant shield of silver, bolts of power curling around it. "The power," she whispered. It was enormous, it was suffocating...she couldn't control it. She felt ready to explode, ready to....

Her eyes fluttered open, and then she collapsed to the ground, shivering. Van ran over to her from where he had been standing by his troops, helping his generals train them. He yelled at people to get out of his way as he shoved a man out of his path to get to her. The gathering crowd parted and let him get to the queen.

"Hitomi?! Hitomi, wake up!!" he yelled at her, shaking her gently. She didn't stir. He gasped, jerking his hands back. He felt scalded, his fingers were burning painfully. He looked down at his fingers, finding them bleeding, the skin peeling. A man helped him stand as he cradled his burnt hands as best as he could. He was rushed away without even being asked from his passed out wife, being assured that she would be brought along shortly.

Van heard the words 'demon' and 'evil spirit' as he ran to the palace, his first thought Hitomi, his second ice. Almost as soon as he got into the palace a maid came running up to him with iced water, ice cubes floating on top. He dove his hands into it, sighing at the relief.

He saw some men carrying Hitomi into the hall as he took his hands out, being handed some cloths to wrap them in. A woman tied them quickly, curtsying and then leaving as soon as she had gotten there. Van went to the infirmary, praying his wife was alright. He had only been back a week from the two-week trip he had had to the other towns in Fanelia. Hitomi had been complaining of strange stirring visions, which alarmed him, for he had thought, hoped, that they were gone. He didn't want anything to happen to her. But ever since she had been having these visions, she had passed out at every one, and at every one he had felt a growing hotness in her body, or some sort of electrical current going through her. He had been burned slightly yesterday, but nothing had been as bad as it had been today.

When he got there, he found Hitomi sitting up in bed, yelling at the healers not to touch her. It was if she knew that she would hurt them, Van thought. He went to her side, not daring to touch her, but asking her if she was alright.

Hitomi glanced down at his bandaged hands. "Let me see," she ordered. Van turned his hands over.

Hitomi let her tears fall over. His hands were covered in blood...and all from her. "I'm so sorry, Van." She buried her face in her hands, whispering, "I'm a monster."

Van wanted to scold her, but he couldn't do much and not be able to touch her. His hands were stinging still, but it was getting more vague as he concentrated on his wife. "Hitomi, what is wrong with you?"

Her crying got worse as she tried to explain. "I don't know! I have been having these visions where I seem to have this weird power, and I have this feeling like I can do anything, I can kill anyone, destroy anything. I want to hurt things, Van."

His eyes widened. "It's just a vision, don't worry."

"No it's not just a vision!!! I could have killed you!!!"

Van swallowed. He didn't know what to do.

A few hours later Van saw an air cruiser slicing through the sky, carrying the bold flag of Asturia. It landed in a practice field, or what was now pretty much a landing base, for the visits from Asturia and Freid, not to mention the other countries, were becoming more frequent. Fanelia herself had adopted the plans to started building the contraptions, and the first five were going to be finished within the week.

The messenger jumped down from the craft and ran over to the tall king of Fanelia. "Your highness," he said, bowing. He handed him a piece of paper, still bowing. Van unfolded, and glared. So Dilandau has finally decided to attack someone, has he?

Van thanked him, promising to come back in a few moments with a returning message for Dryden and Millerna.

Hitomi saw the air cruiser and wondered with alarm if something bad had happened. She gathered Ryu in her arms as Vera followed her with Malaika. "Van, what's wrong?" she asked when she saw him walking as fast as he could to his study. He slammed the door, not offering an explanation. She could only guess he was brooding at the dark look on his face. She waited until he came out a few minutes later. Ryu had just happened to gurgle, the sound that always seemed to snap his father out of his dreamlike states. Van stopped in mid-stride and smiled, coming over to take his adorable son from his wife, still not saying anything as he walked away with his heir.

Hitomi stomped her foot, asking for her daughter from Vera and excusing her so she could take a break. Malaika had been particularly fussy today, only making her brother start along with her, and all because Van hadn't been paying enough attention to them today. She saw Stephanie out of the corner of her eye, her wide belly the most prominent thing on her small body. Hitomi smiled at her and asked for her to tag along.

Stephanie followed after her with some difficulty, for Hitomi was walking too fast and since she was so near to her time she couldn't move as fast as she used to. She stopped suddenly, panting hard as she tried to regain her breath. Hitomi just continued on, not noticing. Steph smiled at her and then sat down on the rim of the fountain, letting her fingers go through the cool water.

Hitomi got there just in time to see the aircraft take off. Van was shielding his eyes as he watched it fly away. When he looked down at his still gurgling son, he lifted him up in the air, cooing at him and making funny faces, causing Ryu to laugh. He put him back down in the cradle of his arms after he kissed his small forehead tenderly, and then walked over to his wife, holding him out for her to take and then walking away.

By now Hitomi wanted to scream. So she did. "Van!!!!"

Van stopped and turned around, giving his wife a questioning look.

"Ok, could you just perhaps pay attention to your family for just a few minutes, namely me??!?!"

Van went back over to her, taking hold of her hand in one of his bandaged ones. He kissed it softly, telling her that he was sorry for not treating her as he should. "I'm sorry, but I am just so busy. Asturia was just attacked by Dilandau. I have to increase the border patrol." He flashed her a white-toothed grin.

Hitomi melted at his loving smile. She hated herself. "It's alright. You can go."

Van savored a long kiss on her soft lips before he ruffled his son's black hair fondly and left. Hitomi held the giggling baby a moment before she sighed, deciding to take a stroll in the city.

Dilandau's maniacal laughter floated down the halls. "Yes!!" he screamed, his hands fisted and raised above him. "She did it!!! We are going to rule all of Gaea!!!!"

In the past few days, as Seibu started helping him harness the power that she gave him, he had become more psychotic, if that was possible. He started running down the halls, his hair standing on end as he took his sword and ran it along the doors and walls, waking everyone up. Men and women opened the doors, their sleepy eyes showing their annoyance. Dilandau just told them to go back to sleep, laughing some more as he did it over and over again.

Seibu, her wicked and evil smile planted on her face, was almost tempted to join him, but she was more mature in her insanity. She placed the book in its locked case as she always did when she got sick of trying to decipher it. But now, she was done. She never had to go over that thing for countless hours trying to figure it out. Now she could start the take over of Gaea, as she learned how to resurrect Atlantis. With her power, she didn't think she would have any problem. She only had one concern. The growing power to the east. She felt it sometimes, the burning heat, the little tingle in the back of her mind that alerted her to something wrong. She shrugged her slim shoulders. Whatever.

Dilandau, now too tired to do much more than laugh every once and a while, jumped on his wife. She hadn't been expecting that, but she gladly let him have his way with her for a few hours.

The child born of love will save Atlantis.

It said it over and over again in her head. She hated it, wanted it to stop. She clamped her hands over her ears, begging the pleading soft voice to stop before her head exploded. And then it did.

She opened her eyes reluctantly, wondering if she would see the floating white phantom in front of her again. Her visions were coming too much now, just seemed to come every hours at least once, if not more. She was passed out half of the day, no one able to touch her, for she would hurt them. All they could do was let her lay on whatever surface she had collapsed on.

Just the other day she had almost caught the bed on fire, for she had been asleep when she'd had a vision, which was also occurring more. Van had rolled over on his side to take her up in his arms as he always did, but had woke himself up screaming from the pain. Van didn't even touch her now, in fact, the past few nights he had slept in a chair beside the bed. Hitomi was constantly trying not to cry, not understanding what was happening to her.

The power of Atlantis is coming, the Silver Atlantian is coming...

The chanting started again, echoing in her head, not wanting to leave. She wanted to scream for it to stop, but it wouldn't now, she knew it wouldn't. She would just have to live with it, for however long she had to suffer with this...this curse.

Van watched his wife as she sat up in bed, her body trembling from what she had just seen. She no longer told him what she saw, for she knew it scared him. She was getting depressed because he couldn't touch her, for he never knew when she could hurt him. Hitomi, just be patient. Whatever this is, it will go away soon, he thought, closing his eyes for sleep.

The ground started to quake, volcanoes erupted, waves from the ocean pounded into the beaches and over the walls, into the towns and flooding them. Wind swept trees away, tearing them from the ground, their home for hundreds of years. Dragons were awaken from their peaceful slumber, and started terrorizing the people of Gaea. Hurricanes blew away villages and towns, leaving nothing but an occasional dead body.

People screamed, ran for their lives. What is happening to Gaea, they asked themselves, begging for help.

Little did they know that the power of Atlantis would be coming...and coming soon.
