Chapter Thirty Five: Understanding
They walked right in, not bothering to talk with anyone of importance. This was what was important. No one could stop them anyhow. They were the most powerful things on Gaea, except possibly the lady in the tube, and Seibu and Dilandau's powers hadn't really been tested yet. Another question to ask. Were Dilandau and Seibu a serious threat?
There was no darkness this time, it became filled with a dim glow as they entered, and they both sighed with relief. They didn't want to go through any more creepy episodes.
Hitomi got down on her knee, along with Van. "Your, uh, almighty highness, we have a request of you," Hitomi said, apprehensive because she didn't know what to call the lady in the tube.
"...I already...know. Ask...questions....."
Hitomi lifted her eyes up, watching the bubbles dance over the mystical figure in the tube as she floated, giving no movement, not even a blink. Her pure light blue eyes were illuminating the room as before, and it still made them both feel...weird. She had no white in her eyes, no black. It was just straight blue. Hitomi held back a shudder and stood. She came right out with it.
"Atlantis was destroyed. It was destroyed because you wished to become gods, and you killed yourselves because you wanted more power. Is this not true?"
Hitomi almost felt a breath go down her neck, and she jerked around, not seeing anything. She turned back around, seeing just in time the lady in the tube take a deep breath. She blinked. So, they felt what she did or something? This was getting weirder by the moment.
"No."
Hitomi and Van stood there, dumbfounded. "Huh?" they both said at the same time.
The creature gave a delicate beautiful smile that almost rivaled Hitomi's. "We...made it seem...that way. We destroyed the old Atlantis...and handed over some of our power to Freid to make it seem...that way."
Hitomi shook her head, confused. "So you're saying that you pretended to kill yourselves, and in the meanwhile, handed over some of your power to Freid to make it seem even more real? And what did you do after you destroyed the old Atlantis? Move here?"
"...Exactly."
Van stepped forward, understanding where Hitomi didn't. "You did this to protect yourselves. You didn't want anyone to get a hold of your power, so you hid yourselves from the rest of the world to make sure no one would ever get it, right?"
A flutter of her hand in the tube made Hitomi jerk out of her reverie. "Err, so, now you have been discovered. How was this "new" Atlantis found?"
"The one you call...Seibu found old ancient texts that...resurrected us. It was meant to be destroyed...but no one ever did...and it was found by the...wrong person."
Hitomi frowned. "Alright, how in the world did she know how to decipher Atlantian?"
"The Pendant of Atlantis...."
Hitomi's hands unconsciously went to around her neck, where she used to have her pendant. "You mean, mine...err, Van's pendant belongs to Atlantis?"
"That...pendant was meant to be destroyed also...but it never was. Another fault in the past. Now it's too late."
"What can the pendant do?"
"It controls more...power than you, Van, and me...can ever wield. It will destroy...the universe if...Seibu ever unlocks its...ultimate power."
Van and Hitomi both gasped. "Why would anyone create it?"
"It was also meant to be...handed over to Freid...where it would have been destroyed if the...limited power we gave them was ever unlocked. However, it wasn't in the right place at the right time."
"That was limited power!?" Hitomi yelled, almost shaking. Van smirked, rubbing her back.
"Now, let me get this straight. You destroyed yourselves to make it seem like you weren't alive anymore, and so no one would want your power. In turn, you handed some "limited" power over to Freid, so they could protect it and make it seem like you had given them all of your power to protect for eternity." He paused. "Were these "old ancient texts" and the "pendant" part of some of this power or something?"
"They...went along with the...Sword of Atlantis. There were...three. The Ancient Texts of Atlantis...the Sword of Atlantis...and the Pendant of Atlantis...which held more power than anything," she said, her face showing no expression.
"So, somehow Seibu and Dilandau got a hold of the texts, unlocked the power—"
"With the help of my, err, Van's pendant, right? They wouldn't have been able to do it without the pendant, right?" Hitomi piped in, interrupting Van.
"...Yes."
Van started again, pacing in front of both Hitomi and the woman in the tube, one arm behind his back and one motioning in front of him. "So, she got both of these, and discovered that she could resurrect the "new" Atlantis to get your power. She is very power greedy, I guess."
Hitomi nodded. "So, she did just that, and gained more power from it in the process?"
The creature nodded, her silver hair flowing about her shoulders and back.
"So now they are here, planning on getting in and trying to somehow get this power," Van muttered, halting his furious pacing and raking his fingers through his silver hair.
"And this is why we are here," Hitomi said quietly, looking down at her hands. "You want us to stop them." She looked back up, her eyes slightly watering. "Why us?"
"Like...said before. You are the two that unlocked the...love of all loves, and in this you can control...anything, if you put your hearts in it. You never...know what love can do...until it is...time."
Hitomi gave a look to Van that was so filled with worry and love at that moment that he had to go over and just hold her. He buried his face in her sweet-smelling silvery hair, taking a deep and holding it for a long precious minute.
"What do we have to do?" Van demanded, straightening beside Hitomi, no longer worried in this time of woe. They were going to stop Dilandau and Seibu from whatever they planned to do, if it was the last thing they did.
