*Reunited Love on Earth, Catching Up With the Past*
Hitomi's eyes opened groggily as she reached for the alarm clock that was ringing on her bed stand. Her hand smacked the top of it and she sat up, her back ached and it was almost painfully dulling to move. She leaned against the wooden head of the bed, not even completely awake yet.
Hitomi glanced outside the window of her apartment down three floors. People were already up, driving and chattering to work. The sun had begun to rise, telling her it was the crack of dawn, the light fluttered through the window as well as the warmth that coated her. The morning breeze blew in the open window, and the fresh vanilla scent of the apartment flowed into her nostrils.
"I hate school…I bet Yukari is going to kill me if I don't meet her by the coffee shop today…" Hitomi sighed inwardly as she pushed her way through the blankets and stood, she wanted so badly just to call in a sick day and sleep but she knew she would be dead before her head had time to touch the pillow, "Well…I need to be at school…"
Hitomi let out an exasperated sigh as she staggered towards the closet, digging for something to wear today. After a few moments she finally settled on a blue collar button down shirt with golden buttons and a blue miniskirt to match, deciding it was proper to wear to school. Hitomi smiled as she slipped off her nightgown and replaced it with her outfit, the shirt first, then miniskirt.
She grabbed her black bag and slung it over one shoulder while taking a brush and dragging through her now waist long hair and after that pulled it into a thick bun but letting two bundles of hair, one on each side of her ears, drop. Hitomi smiled as she took her keys that were dangling from the hook on the door. She left and headed for her car, whistling a small tune as she walked down the long stairs.
She felt the edge of her mouth curve upwards into smirk as she looked at her black, Mercedes Benz Convertible, Hitomi was sure she would never get tired of seeing that. Her parents had surprised her with it as they found she had been accepted to one of the finest Ivy League Schools on the face of the planet.
It was slender in shape and very elegant and could be seen only as a blur of black that raced through the streets. She pressed the tiny button on the control remote and the car lit up and unlocked itself automatically. She opened the car door, still smirking as she slid into the driver's seat and she felt the smooth tanned leather against her thighs; the smell of roses unnervingly pleasant to her nostrils as she drove towards the shop.
The icy tingles of morning air still blowing her face at full force but she was used to it by now, Hitomi felt the hair on her neck stand on ends as she sped up, pushing the pedal faster as she glanced at her car-clock. The black letters flashing repeatedly reminding her constantly that she wasn't going to make it on time.
She parked in the lot and made sure she had put on the roof top and locked it to make sure it wouldn't have been stolen. Hitomi sped into the coffee shop and pushed open the door, smelling the freshness of the cappuccino that lingered every time someone took a sip which happened quite often as it was sold here.
She sat down across from Yukari who was glaring angrily with her arms crossed, if looks could've killed then Hitomi would've probably dropped dead at the second. Hitomi rolled her eyes and smiled at her apologetically while yawning quietly, "I set my alarm for six thirty but I'm still late…gomen…" She grinned sheepishly at them with a hand scratching the back of her head.
"Hmm…late as normal…" Amano noted while smiling, "Hitomi…but I bet Yukari is glad you were…" Amano chuckled as Yukari turned about forty different shades of crimson and sank lowly in her seat. Amano smiled as Yukari frowned at him and made a pouting face.
"Amano! You don't have to go running around, yelling out that we are married!" Yukari shoved him playfully, still blushing furiously. Others around them glanced at them and turned back to their own affairs, it was common that newly wedded couples, especially ones still in college hung around the area, "Seriously! Amano are you listening to me?!" Her voice still had a playful touch to it despite that she was twenty-two.
"Yukari…come on…are we going to order breakfast or fight?" Hitomi said while glancing at Yukari who looked ready to strangle Amano at the spot, "I mean we have about thirty minutes before we have to get to school…and I personally don't like being late…to school at least!" Yukari looked at her awkwardly while Amano did the same thing.
"Wow, Hitomi Kanzaki, wanting to be on time, what a world…" Amano muttered while looking at her with a small mocking smile. Hitomi snorted not in a lady like way and glared while looking at the menus, glancing over to see the choices of food they had this morning.
"No comment…anyway…You guys want anything? Its on me since I was late…I'm getting a coffee and that's it…you?" She said while looking for her wallet from her black school bag, rummaging through it and finally finding it, "I have about thirty dollars with me…" Hitomi closed her bag and looked at the two staring back at her.
"Coffee for me…I need it…today we have a huge math test…" Yukari sighed inwardly while resting her head on Amano's shoulder, closing her crimson orbs and laying still. Amano only put an arm around her sympathetically while stroking her hair softly.
"Same here…coffee…." Amano said while closing his eyes while taking in another gulp of scented air and letting his head lean back onto the back of the bench.
"Alright…I'll be right back…" Hitomi stood and slid out of the seat taking her bag with her as she stepped into the front of the counter, surprisingly no one was in line at the moment, "Three coffee, medium please…" Hitomi said while opening her wallet to take out the money needed.
"That will be seven forty eight…" A man with brown hair covering his eyes replied softly. Hitomi handed over the money while letting her elbows rest against the marble countertop waiting patiently, "Thank you, please wait for just a moment…" The man left and filled three cups with coffee and handed them over to her.
"Arigato…" She took them, careful not to spill anything, and set them down in front of Yukari and Amano, then one for herself. Hitomi sat down again in the same seat she had sat in before while taking a sip of her hot coffee, the liquid warm but not too hot. They chattered on for a few moments before taking another sip of coffee.
"Well…We need to be out of here in ten minutes to be on time to school…I'll drink my coffee on the way to school with Amano, you want a ride or did you take out your convertible here?" Yukari asked while standing up and pulling Amano with her. Hitomi shook a small no, the two long bundles of hair on the sides swinging in motion.
"I brought my convertible, thank you…I think I'll go now too…see you at school…" Hitomi stood and walked off while waving a goodbye, the coffee in hand. She took out her keys and pressed the button again and unlocked it while removing the top as well. Hitomi sat down in the car and drove towards the school away from the coffee shop.
*~*~*
Hitomi parked the car in the back of the parking-lot. She slammed the door closed, clicked for the button for the roof top and locked it, half already running, her bag over one shoulder. She panted while darting into the schools and then towards her classroom number, relieved that she was a moment earlier and that the teacher hadn't come in yet.
Hitomi sat down next to Yukari, one seat away from the isle seconds before the bell rang. Hitomi took out a school book and began looking it over, holding it up covering her face. She could hear the teacher's foot steps come in and she only wanted a few seconds to review before he would've begun the next lesson. What he said next was not at all what she expected though.
"Students, we have a new addition to Harvard University today…please welcome Van Fanel…" Hitomi froze, had she heard correctly? Was she mistaken? She was sure she had heard the teacher correctly, positive one hundred percent but how could it have been him? Her hands trembled and the book that she had been reading clattered to the floor as she gazed upwards at the man standing in front of the class.
He stood there, his ebony locks the same way it had always been, he had definitely grown taller over the eight years that had so quickly passed by, his form had grown more manly, the red shirt, khaki pants and black boots had been replaced by an almost identical shirt to Hitomi's except it was for men and had navy blue pants to match to it, he still wore black boots but not the kind that he had the last time they had met, they were pointed leather like the ones you would find on a business person or an attorney. The thing that captivated Hitomi the most was his eyes, those beautiful ember hued eyes, the ones she could stare into and be lost for a time longer then an eternity. Even from a distance she could see him smile widely, that wondrous sly smile of his.
"V-Van?" She managed to stutter but only as a hushed whisper. Yukari stared at her along with Amano who was on her left side, leaving a space to the isle. Hitomi blinked, trying to see if she was hallucinating, he was still there. She rubbed her eyes and blinked again, he was still there, the feeling of happiness grew in her and she wanted to shout out in joy but didn't knowing that her voice would be a few pitches too high.
"You may take your seat anywhere you like Mr. Fanel…" Van scanned the room, his eyes stopping at Hitomi, his smile turning slowly into a smirk at the sight of the bewildered teenager. He moved up the stairs, the briefcase making him look like a professional, especially in the clothes he was wearing. He walked while smiling shyly and taking a seat next to her, his eyes moving over her.
Van couldn't take his eyes off Hitomi, she was even more elegant and beautiful then he had remembered. Her short golden hair was now long and in a bun with two bundles of hair in front of her ears, her soft pale cheeks were flushed with surprise, her high school attire disappeared and left her with a womanly look, she too had indeed grown taller, her slender fingertips that tightly clutched the frame of her chair were like long vines, her blazing sea-foam eyes filled with unspeakable joy and surprise at the same time.
"It's been eight years Hitomi, do you still remember me?" Van's voice was soft like the last time they had met except his voice was manlier now. His eyes looked directly into hers, each person almost fainting at the direct attention, their gazes burned into the others without resting. There was a small silence between them for a second before Hitomi broke it.
"I could never have forgotten you Van; I promised you…even if I hadn't…I wouldn't forget about you…eights years felt more like eight seconds to me…" Hitomi's voice was hushed and raspy but still had a tone of swiftness to it, "Van…I-I…how?" Both of the students sat in the far back, the teacher continuing his speech without knowing of the chit chat going on in the back of the class.
"A few days after you left I began to feel empty and hollow like here was nothing left for me to do anymore and I sought out advice from my mother and brother who answered me…Both of them told me to go back to you and I didn't argue because I wanted to see you again…I wished for it with the pendant…and it was granted to me…I had been planning it for about two years now; the wish and preparing for it…I handed ruler ship of Fanelia to Merle…I did not sign a death warrant to Fanelia, I would never do that, after about three years after you left, Merle began to mature and gain great leadership skills that I never thought she could possess and I convinced the advisors to take her my place as the new ruler of Fanelia which later they agreed to. There was a parting ceremony for me and after it, all the people of Fanelia watched me leave…" Van whispered, his voice filled with a strange sadness.
"Go on…" Hitomi urged him to continue, her voice eager and interested in the conversation. Yukari and Amano watched trying to make heads or tails about what the two were talking about but had no clue of what was going on between them or even how they had met.
"Right now, I'm just human Hitomi…just human…it was like I had a past on earth and I have an identity…it was created by the powers of this pendant…I chose this fate because I wanted to be with you…My mother and father are unknown which doesn't surprise me, I was abandoned at birth and was adopted by a caring woman who died when I seventeen and I inherited all of her riches and money…I have a decent past and a good driving record…not even one ticket…I have memories of my `past' on Earth and the ones on Gaea." It took Hitomi a few seconds to understand and absorb everything he said but after a few seconds her eyes widened in realization of Van's sacrifice.
"Van you gave up your kingdom…for me…?" Hitomi's voice was weak and trembling as she stared at him, his features softened and relaxed even more, his hand on hers. Tears welled up in her eyes, the crystalline drops trickling down her cheeks as she held onto his hand, the gloves gone, she had expected them to be rough but they were warm and soft.
"Hitomi that was a small price to pay for you…" He paused for a second before continuing, "Don't cry…please….I don't like seeing you depressed…" Van leaned closer, so close that Hitomi could feel his warm breath on her neck, the tears stopped as her grip on his hand tightened even further.
"I won't cry then…I won't cry unless you want me to …" Hitomi wiped away the tears with the end of her free sleeve. Yukari and Amano stared at them with interest, everything confusing but they understood the concept somewhat better the more they listened but they had no clue what Gaea or what creating the identity had to do with it, they said nothing in fear of spoiling the moment.
"Then don't ever cry again…I don't want to see any tears of sadness from you…I want you happy, at all costs…" Van's voice was so soft and warming, Hitomi smiled brightly while scooting her chair closing to Van's, their faces almost touching the other's. They were literally shoulder to shoulder and their hands clasped tightly onto the others.
"Alright but answer me one question…Will you be going back to…to Gaea…ever…?" Hitomi's voice desperate, she didn't want him to leave, she didn't want to be separated from him again. Her eyes pleaded for an answer.
"No, not without you at least…I plan to stay here on earth forever…with you…" He smiled as he brushed aside the bangs that fluttered into the way of her eyes, revealing those wondrous pools of spring green, his heart and soul nearly melted at the sight, those beautiful eyes, what it would be like seeing into those bottomless depths for an eternity.
*~*~*
"Hey Hitomi! You haven't introduced us to your friend yet!" Amano said while placing a hand onto her shoulder and shaking it gently. Hitomi stared a moment at Amano, then at Yukari and then back to Van.
"Well, uh…Van…meet Yukari and Amano…my two best friends…" Yukari smiled at Van while sticking her hand out to shake. Van shook it and turned back to Hitomi blinking with one eyebrow raised and his eyes were widened.
"Nice to meet your acquaintance…" Yukari said as she felt an arm around her shoulder and could see stray strands of brown hair flutter over her face, "Getting jealous Amano? Hmm?" Amano looked at her uncomfortably but shook no, resisting the urge to say something. Van closed his eyes, already knowing exactly what kind of people they were and knew them to be true to their feelings.
"They're married Van…come on…let's go and have lunch…you know any places you specifically like?" Hitomi asked while looking up at him with an envious on her face as she stared at the couple before them. Van nodded, his smirk returning.
"Let's go for Japanese…I'm all up for sushi…" Van answered loud enough for Yukari and Amano to hear while looking at the others who nodded in unison, "I know a nice place about a ten minute drive from here…we can take my car if you like…" Van smiled at Hitomi looking down at her, reminding her that he now could do almost everything a human could do.
"Sure why not? I mean we are coming back for the other classes…" Van smirked as he led the three to the front of the parking lot and took out a remote which Hitomi couldn't make the details of; he clicked the button and waited for the call saying it was open. He stopped in front of a red sports car, something that was very pricy, Hitomi could tell that this was the latest model of the brand and it looked wonderful.
"V-Van, exactly how much money did you pay for this?" Hitomi looked at him, almost as surprised and bewildered as she had been when she realized he had come back from Gaea, "V-Van? Do you know how expensive these models are?" Hitomi's knees trembled and she looked as if she were going to faint.
"This isn't a model…it's the only one of its kind…I had it specially designed and made…it's was about a measly seven million dollars…not very much…." Hitomi, Yukari and Amano eyes almost shot out of their heads as they looked at Van who was standing there with his arms crossed and ready to leave.
"Van…that is not cheap…where did you get all this money?!" Amano shouted, his voice was high pitched and it sounded unusual for a man to have such a high voice. Yukari jabbed him in the ribs to tell him to shut up for a moment and let Van continue which he obeyed.
"I inherited it from my stepmother…she owned a business in America…I took over…I'm still attending college for the degrees and everything but I do own the company…I'm not sure if you've heard of it before but it was called Oebrenyu…" Hitomi and all of them stood gaping at him, nearly toppling to the floor at the name they heard.
"Van, that is one of the biggest company's in America! Never mind….come on…we are wasting our lunch break…" Hitomi sighed while slapping her forehead and chuckled amused with the thought Van didn't even understand the fact he owned billions of dollars.
Van opened the door of the leading, allowing the others in the back seat while letting Hitomi sit in the front not accidentally. Van opened the air conditioning to medium and turned on the engine. He backed out of the parking space and sped to the restaurant.
A few minutes later in reached the designated spot and from the looks of the outside, the three of the teenagers could tell exactly just how pricy the restaurant was. They stepped out of the car and allowed Van to lock it and waited for him to follow after them, Hitomi slowed purposely and waited for him with a shy smile. The couples walked separately and towards the restaurant and strangely Van just headed to the front of the line and no one complained.
"Fanel, Van…a table for four, I trust that you can do that?" The desk clerk, who happened to be a woman almost melted at the sight of Van as if he was a blessing from the heavens. She had raven long hair and icy blue eyes and could be considered good looking. Van wrapped his arm around Hitomi, bringing her against his chest and holding her closely while she held back, the warmth the two shared was so comforting. Amano and Ukari watched pleased for their friend.
"Yes, right away…Hey…Mr. Fanel's waiting, hurry it up!" The waitress shouted looking disgusted at the site of Hitomi and Van together, obviously jealous of her. Van only held Hitomi tighter against his chest wanting her warm body against his, which entirely she didn't mind, "They have a table ready for you, follow me…" The waitress lead them in, making sure that she bent down in front of Van who seemed a little too caught up with Hitomi to notice but Yukari and Amano certainly did and were having trouble concealing their small squeals of laughter.
"Here you go…" She led them into a room outside the normally crowded and noisy restaurant and into a clearing. There was a small fountain with two stone fishes spraying water out and the table had a beautiful view over the city as it was on the second floor, "Please call for a waiter or waitress when you are ready Mr. Fanel." She left still glaring from behind them.
"That girl really had it in for you Van…damn...I bet she isn't the only one…you're probably a walking magnet…" Amano joked playfully and took a seat on the velvet chairs. Hitomi felt her throat tighten considerably at the comment that Amano made, she held on to Van much tighter and glanced up at him to find him frowning seriously.
"Perhaps but it really doesn't matter…I only love Hitomi…other girls can gawk all they want…they are not going to get anything…especially that bitch that has been trying to flirt with me for over a year…I'm looking for one mistake that will get her fired…" Yukari and Amano chuckled at Van's strange reply but Hitomi relaxed slightly at it and leaned her head against his chest while taking a seat next to him across from Yukari who too seated herself.
"I would agree, I didn't like the way she looked at Hitomi at all…" Yukari muttered lowly so that her voice was a hard whisper. Van nodded while smiled softly and looking down at Hitomi who was leaning against him, `Yukari treats Hitomi as if she were her little sister…no one wonder they are best of friends…Hitomi does have good judgment of who to trust…' She took a menu from the table and opening it like Amano. The two gawked at the prices on the menus, most of them well over a hundred for the strangest things.
"Van I was wondering if you wanted to catch a movie with us on Friday night…it could be like a double date…" Hitomi glanced down at her menu, "Why would anyone want to spend three hundred and fifty seven dollars on lobster?!" Hitomi's eyes almost popped out as she re scanned the page finding that the cheapest item cost seventy nine dollars.
"I would love to…sure…no problem…we can get a private screening for ourselves if you wanted…" Everyone just plain looked Van as if he was an alien, "What, am I doing something wrong or something like that?"
"Van, you do realize how much money you are spending correct?" Amano asked while scanning over the menu again.
"Hai, Hitomi and her friends deserve the best there is to offer…so that's what I'm doing…" Van answered while snapping his fingers for the waitress, "Any friend of hers is a friend of mine…" Amano and Yukari smiled as Hitomi flushed bright pink and leaned against Van again.
"You really know how to sweet talk a girl Van…really…" Hitomi felt his arms wrap around her shoulders again and their chairs were touching as close as they could be without breaking the chairs. The waitress forced herself not to growl angrily at the sight of the two being so close together. `I'll have him…I always get what I want…'
"Arigato Hitomi…what would you like?" Van said smirking at the response he received from the waitress. `Well so the bitch's name is Hitomi huh?' The waitress thought to herself, the edge of her mouth curving upwards, the looks in her eyes growing largely.
"Whatever you're having is just fine with me Van…" Hitomi snuggled deeper into his chest, his warmth more then enough for her, "You order for me Van…" The waitress looked at her in disgust, what she was doing was like a slap to the face, worse then an insult to her.
"Alright then…we'll take two sets of medium sushi…and two glasses of grape wine please…" Van turned to Yukari and Amano and raised an eyebrow while smiling slightly, "What would you like? Don't be shy to ask, its no problem really…" Van held Hitomi who could've passed that she was sitting on his lap even more tighter with a growing smirk, if it was possible to become any wider, it did at the sight of the twitching waitress.
"I'll have a small sushi set and a small glass of white wine…" Yukari murmured softly to Van and turned to Amano to wait for his answer, her head resting on his shoulders, "That's about all…what about you Amano?" She asked while politely covering her mouth as she yawned. The waitress tapped her foot in impatience at the mockingly close couples, teasing her, `How dare her!! Well then, I'll make Hitomi's lesson painfully slow…'
"I'll have red wine and a medium sushi set…that's all…" Amano wrapped an arm around Yukari and pulled her closer to him. She smiled brightly at him, her hair wrapped around her neck and flowing down her front.
"Alright….thank you…please wait for a few moments…" The waitress turned and walked away, glaring at Hitomi and muttering silent curses.
"I really hope she does get fired…anyone that bitchy should be…" Amano muttered while holding Yukari against his chest and smiling softly down at her. She had her eyes closed and looked as if she were asleep. A few moments later the waitress came back with their orders and set them down. They ate and talked for a while before returning to the school.
