Waiting for a Saviour

She thought she had heard it, for a brief moment she thought he was coming for her. Yet the passing moments rolled into minutes, spurring no reaction from the street, no feathers littered the night sky and no light pierced the eerie darkness of the alleyway. He hadn't come; she was alone.

"He didn't come." She whispered as Muska's grip on her tightened causing the tears, which had been collecting in her eyes, to spill down her cheeks.

"Did you honestly believe that he would," he gently chided, "Perhaps his feelings for you are not as strong as you lead yourself to believe. Still it matters not!" In a politely and elegant gesture he extended his other hand, offering her to take it and after a short time of silent reluctance she accepted. "Come with me, Lady Hitomi. Fulfil the prophecy handed down in my family for centuries and stand by my side as Queen of Lapusha. Rule over our fellow Atlantians' as it was so long ago ordained.

"Atlantians'!" She gasped. "I was lead to believe that only Van..."

"Of course there are more Draconians' than Fanel. I am living proof of that." She looked at him strangely as he closed his eyes in concentration. Moment's passed and his breath caught in his throat as wings burst forth from his back and the alley was engulfed with creamy feathers. He opened his eyes once again as he released his breath to speak as he stared straight at her. "And if what the prophecy says is true then you too are one, it just will not be visible till the right time... It was decided long ago not to divulge the information of our whereabouts. The hatred towards our race was what forced us to do so. Very few none Atlantians' know of our whereabouts."

"But how do you manage to do so, surely people must come across your country?" Hitomi replied a puzzled expression crossing her docile features.

"My country is free." Muska announced proudly. "My people may come and go as they please but most find that life is so peaceful that they have no wish to do so! As it once was in Atlantis our people walk freely, unashamed of their heritage. There is no need to hide our wings for no other race coincides with us in Lapusha."

"No outside interference at all..." she murmured softly, "How could that be?"

"We are protected from the outside world by an anomaly in the sky. It has been christened by our profits as, 'the Dragons Nest' because of its size and shape. It has shrouded our country for many years, long before my ancestors ever graced the throne of my kingdom. It is impenetrable because of its mass and is un-scalable because of its height. Only one of Draconian blood could ever hope to scale it. Because of this we have never suffered the ravages of war." Muska informed her softly. His eyes gazed down at her and it was clear that he was quite taken by the woman before him. If this was to be his wife, he knew he could do no better, in truth he welcomed this union with great anticipation and pleasure, which he knew, would follow hand in hand.

"It truly sounds wonderful to think that there is a place were war can not destroy families and steal children's innocence." She whispered in awe.

"And it could be all yours," he lowered his head as he spoke, closing the already short distance between them, his lips locking with hers in a humble, respectful kiss. Her lips were so soft and imploring and the man, whose own lips pressed against them, found himself comparing them to that of the purest rose; its velvet petals so full, pouting yet delicate. In truth he revelled in them. He breathed in her sweet perfume as he let his eyes open almost dreamily, gazing into her own before pulling back slightly. It was of a subtle hint of jasmine and it incensed him beyond words and comprehension, his breath caught in the back of his throat from the simple smell and such a simple kiss. Yes this was most defiantly going to be a most pleasurable arrangment. "Come with me," he murmured against her lips as he went to repeat his previous action. "Let me rule you and I will forever be your slave."

"I..." was her only response as the kiss left her stupefied.

At that moment the sky seemed to radiate light and every object in the alley was enveloped in a pillar of light, which burst from the heavens. From the beam a figure descended, his face shrouded from view. His touch down was gentle and as soon as his body made contact with the ground the pillar, which had only just held him, disappeared. His raven hair was dishevelled, with the slightest signs of stubble on his face as he stood, clad in only a long nightshirt. Yet it was his eyes, which were most interesting. They held the look of concern, merging into glint of betrayal then to a glare of pure rage.

Anger and jealously flooded every part of Van's being as he stared at the scene before him. Only feet away from him stood a Draconian man, the one from his dreams and he had only moments before broken from a kiss, which had been shared with Hitomi, his Hitomi! As soon as he had arrived the man had pulled away from Hitomi but had not let go of her hand and even though she had began to struggle in his grasp, he did not relinquish his grip on her.

The raven-haired youth ground his teeth as his rage continued to build. The sight before him proved beyond a doubt that his dream was a vision. But what did it mean; that Hitomi would leave him to go to this mans side and bear his children? The mere thought of it caused him to tremble uncontrollably as he swallowed hard, attempting to calm himself to know avail. If the man did not release Hitomi soon he was going to loose what little control he was so diligently trying to maintain. The helpless distraught look she was giving him was practically his undoing and did not help in the slightest.

"Van." A sigh of recognition and hope; such a small whisper yet it gave him the strength and courage to walk towards her captor and glare at him with a look that was unmistakably one of warning.

"If you would be so kind, Sir, to let the Lady go?" he asked as smoothly as possible as he came to a halt in front of the blond man, at least two years his senior.

"Fanel, this is no longer your concern." Muska cautioned sharply, yet still holding the calmness it always had. "I would advise you to leave now, for you are unmanned, unarmed and far from my equal."

"What do you want with Hitomi?" Van hissed in unwavering aggravation, disregarding the fact that he had no idea how this unknown man knew of him.

"No doubt exactly the same thing as you young King. Although mine has far more purpose than your claim!" A look of confusion crossed Van's face and he looked at Hitomi who, although was in obvious distress, had a flushed crimson to her cheeks. Trying to ignore the last statement he turned back to the unknown man.

"Tell me, who are you who holds women against their will?" he ordered regally, his back straight and his stance obstinate.

"My name is Muska Romska Pour La Ule Lapusha. Ruler of the Lapushian Kingdom, last descendant to the first Royal family of Atlantis, "He replied as a smirk apeared on his face, "And this is my future Queen, Hitomi Lusheeta Pour La Ule Seraphi." Van moved forward his hand out stretched and watched as Hitomi stretched her own hand out to touch his.

"It looks like she is reluctant to stay by your side, Lord." Van chided mockingly, hearing her imploringly whimpering his name again.

"I'm afraid it is not her decision for it is destined by fate. She cannot escape the life ahead of her, however far she runs and no matter who she hides behind." Muska's smirk widened as he pulled Hitomi to him, his arm wrapping around her waist. "Now Fanel as you can clearly see we are rather busy. We must return to our homeland and prepare for the marriage ceremony. We mustn't keep our people waiting for they have already waited century's for this day to occur." Van watched as he raised his free hand to his neck, a pink glow radiated from beneath the woven fabric of his shirt. "Now Hitomi, it is time to leave this destructive world behind us." As he spoke light engulfed the pair and they slowly began to lift of the floor.

Van stared at them his eyes burning with hatred towards the man who was taking Hitomi away from him. Once again his dream haunted him, whispering suggestive thoughts of what he knew would be if he were to let this happen. Not willing to let his fears grow Van ran towards the beam, wincing as his wings were released; his shirt falling lifelessly to the ground as he propelled himself into the sky. He could here Hitomi cry out to him repeatedly as he beat his wings as hard as possible to reach her before she was taken from him.

"Let go." Her angered cry piecing the sky, one that was followed by one from Muska. She then fell from his hold and towards the awaiting ground, in an uncontrolled fashion. She called out to Van as she neared him, terror yet relief reflected in her verdant eyes.

"Damn you Fanel." The elder man shouted as the young King caught Hitomi with ease, his body dropping in height at the unexpected weight it now carried. He hovered in the air with her held securely in his hold, ensuring her well being before returning his gaze to the form above them. "You think you've won but her destiny lies with me. She will stand by my side not yours. Just you wait, I will not let her go so easily. She is mine!" an echoed call was all that remained, one which chilled both souls hearts.

Van and Hitomi stared up at the sky till Muska was no where to be seen, transported back to wherever he came from and for the time being they would be at least left in peace. Both could feel themselves being drawn upward towards nothing but the infinite void of space above them, to some unknown destination.

"Concentrate Van!" Hitomi murmured holding him tightly to her. "Concentrate on Fanelia." Both did so, picturing the lush land with green forests and although Hitomi had never returned to Fanelia since her departure two years before, the simple smell of Van was all she needed to picture it. Van also concentrated on his country, knowing every landmark by heart but he also had other things on his mind. Muska…what did he have in store for them? Could his dream be changed or was it unstoppable? These thoughts made him tighten his hold on the woman in his grasp and his head brushed against her face. 'It had to be a dream' Van told himself silently, 'but what if it wasn't. Will she go to him? When? I know why but... I don't think I could bear it if she went to him left my side and had his child. No, I won't let it happen.' That was his last thought before the star crossed lovers disappeared into the sparkling night sky and the destiny awaiting them.
