Nagi stepped out of the shower, grabbed the towel from the rack and started to dry off. He wiped the steam from the mirror with one hand and had just started to look for the other towel to dry his hair when he noticed something odd reflected in the mirror. He turned so he could see one shoulder in the mirror and gasped in shock.
“Omi!”
A few seconds later Omi poked his head into the bathroom. “What's . . . holy crap! What the hell is that? Ghost!”
“Damn it, Omi,” Nagi said, wrapping the towel more firmly around his waist. “I'm not a public display.”
“Maybe you should be with that,” Omi said. Nagi punched him in the chest. “Ow!”
“Let it happen to you and we'll see how funny you think it is then,” Nagi said, turning again to see his reflection in the mirror.
Ghost came through the door a few seconds later. “What's going . . . Mother Goddess! What is that?”
“Was hoping you might know,” Omi said.
Ghost shook her head. “No idea,” she said, stepping over to Nagi and inspecting his back and shoulders more closely. “Does it hurt? Are you having any weird sensations in it?”
“No. Not even a tingle. I didn't know it was there until I caught a glimpse of it in the mirror a few minutes ago.”
“Whatever it is, it's beautiful,” Ghost said, running her fingers along the raised lines.
Omi tilted his head and studied the markings for a moment. “It is pretty.”
“I don't care if it's pretty. What the hell is it?”
“I don't know, Nagi,” Ghost said. “I'll call Blaze. If anyone would know about this, she would.”
IN THE MEANTIME
“Soryuu?”
Soryuu looked up from his paperwork and stretched a little. All of the muscles in his back and neck protested at the sudden movement after so many hours of being hunched over.
“What is it, Rikugo?”
“I was checking my charts and . . .”
“And?” Soryuu prompted.
“And there has been an . . . anomaly.”
“In what?”
“In one of Her Royal Highness Edana's claimed children on Earth.”
Soryuu blinked in surprise. “Which one?”
“In the younger boy, Nagi. Though the other should start manifesting signs soon as well.”
“What of the girl?”
“Nothing so far. However, she has a different genetic and cultural heritage than the boys. Any visible aspects of that side of her nature might reveal themselves in a completely different way.”
“That's true. Do you need my help on this or are you just watching for the time being?”
“I don't need any help on it just yet,” Rikugo said. “I'm observing for now. It was merely an FYI for the moment. Since it's manifesting as green it would be in my realm more than yours anyway. I will inform you if and when the other boy starts showing signs and what they are.”
“Thank you.” Soryuu sighed heavily. “I suppose we should inform Tsuzuki of this.”
“I don't see why we should. This has nothing to do with the shinigami and everything to do with us.”
