Skye opened the door to Star's room, paused for a moment in shock and mild horror then shut the door again.

“Oh. My. Gods! I did not see that. I did not see that.”

“What's wrong?” Sunny asked, coming up behind her.

She just pointed to Star's door. Sunny walked over and opened it and stood staring for a few moments. He tilted his head to the side as if studying the scene in front of him before closing the door again. He was smiling slightly and shaking his head.

“Wonder how she got them up there?”

“I don't want to know,” Skye said, continuing down the hall way. She paused on the first landing of the stairs and sighed heavily. “It looks like we had a wild, drunken orgy in here instead of a planning meeting for a mission.”

Indeed the living room certainly looked lived in. Jackets were thrown haphazardly over the backs of chairs and the couch. There were coffee cups, soda bottles and junk food wrappers littering the planning table and computer desk. A large pizza box sat precariously balanced on the edge of the table.

“Hmm. You should have been downstairs listening to Berserker and Siberian discussing stock options and what would be the best thing to invest money in.”

Skye looked at him oddly for a moment before saying, “I really don't want to know what brought that on with the two of them.”

“Probably not,” Sunny said grinning.

Skye raked a hand through her hair and sighed again.

“Do you think Goddess is alright?” she said. More musing aloud than anything else. “It certainly isn't like her to faint over anything.”

“She didn't faint.”

“What do you mean? She lost consciousness and hit the floor. Or would have hit the floor if Abyssinian hadn't caught her.”

“She lost consciousness, yes. But she didn't faint.”

“Not tracking,” Skye said.

“When a person faints their consciousness goes but their energy still remains within the body. Much as it does when one sleeps. Follow so far?”

“I think so.”

“With Goddess it was different. Kind of like the way she is when she meditates. Her body was there but it was as if her energy went somewhere else. Or was pulled rather. I've seen her drop into trance state with almost no effort but this was unusual even for her.”

“Are you saying that something or someone pulled her directly into trance state?”

“That's certainly what it felt like.”

“She always said that dropping into or being pulled out of trance state rapidly was dangerous because it took time for you energy to reorient to being in a physical body.”

“Yes. Which means it has to be something major for her to be pulled into it so quickly. We really need to know what that symbol means.”

“Watari knows what it is. That much is obvious.”

“As you well know, he isn't going to tell us. Since neither Bombay nor Prodigy can come up with anything on the net I'm betting it is something extremely old.”

“Or maybe it's an inside thing. You know, something you have to be involved in to know about.”

“That's possible too. Again it would have to be old in order for Goddess to be a part of it and know it so well,” Sunny said thoughtfully.

“Do you think Goddess will tell us what it means before we go into this mission? I just don't like going into things like this not knowing all the facts.”

“Neither do I. We really don't have any choice at this point though. I'm sure she'll tell us what she thinks we need to know.”

“I hope she's okay.”

“I'm sure her husbands have taken admirable care of her.”

Skye smiled almost wistfully. “Gods, I want to be loved like that.”

“Loved like what?” Sunny asked, his eyebrows going up in question.

She shook her head. “Never mind. You wouldn't understand.”

He moved around to stand in front of her.

“Try me.”

She shrugged. If there was one thing she could always count on with Sunny, it was his constant ability to surprise her. Either that or laugh at her. She most generally preferred the former to the latter concerning him. She looked at him for a moment, trying to gauge his mood. It didn't feel like he was trying to make fun of her.

“Goddess' husbands love her for everything she is and with everything in them. She loves them the same way,” Skye said slowly.

“I think I'm following you so far,” he said. “What is it you want, Skye?”

She blinked up at him, slightly taken aback by the look of intensity and concentration in his eyes.
“I want to be loved like that,” she said quietly. “I want to be held when I'm lonely or sad. I want someone's eyes to fill up with me like they can't see anything or anyone else but me. I want someone to care if I come back from a mission or not. I want someone to be happy to see me whether I'm coming from a mission or just coming into the living room. I want someone who trusts that I can take care of myself but who'll be there if I need him. I want all the intensity and passion and sheer joy that I see and feel in Goddess when she mentions either one of them.”

She paused, waiting for him to laugh at her. He didn't. What he did was take her face in both hands and tilt it up to look at him.

“You want what we all want, Skye. You want a mate.”

Both of them jumped at the sound of Ghost's voice.

“Do I really want to know why Abyssinian and Balinese are duct taped together? On the top post of Star's bed. In a really . . . um . . . interesting position. Minus clothing.”

Sunny and Skye looked at each other and then shrugged.

“Probably not.”

“Then I'm guessing I further don't want to know why they're covered in caramel, what looks to be the last of the Karmel Sutra ice cream and chocolate syrup. Not to mention, I think she used all of Sunny's chocolate whipped cream. And she definitely owes me more candy sprinkles.”

“I must have missed that one,” Sunny said.

“I think she has at least one set of your handcuffs as well,” Ghost said casually.

“What makes you say that? And how do you know I have handcuffs?” Sunny asked. “Never mind. I don't think I want to know how you know.” He wasn't really certain that he should be having this conversation with his adopted daughter.

“Because, she has Siberian cuffed to both bedposts at the top of the bed. I don't think Berserker is cuffed or restrained in any way though.”

“Oh Gods!” Skye said. “I must have missed that one completely.”

“How exactly does one manage to miss Berserker?” Sunny asked.

“If I know Skye, she probably didn't stay long enough to see him roll out from underneath the covers,” Ghost said.

“I think we should pay closer attention to what she does in her spare time,” Sunny said turning to Skye. “I don't think you should be looking into adults rooms either, Ghost.”

Ghost snorted and rolled her eyes. “Oh, please, it's Star. She's done far worse. It isn't like I'm doing what Omi and Nagi are.”

“Gods, dare I ask,” Sunny said.

“They're still standing in the doorway staring. I think they're in shock,” Ghost said, walking past them into the kitchen.

Sunny sighed. “We'll continue our conversation later,” he told Skye.

He turned and walked back up the stairs. Finding the two boys exactly where Ghost said they would be, he pulled them out of the doorway and pointed them downstairs. They left, still looking slightly shell shocked. Sunny paused in the doorway, once again taking in the scene. He closed the door and leaned against it, smiling slightly.

“Well, Star usually gets her man. Or in this case, maniac.”
