No one was surprised to see that Blaze looked as though she had been through all the levels of hell and back when she came into the house later in the day.
“Are you okay, Goddess?” Sunny asked.
She sighed heavily and ran a hand across her forehead. “No. I'm as far from okay as one could possibly get, Sunny.”
“Is there anything we can do to help?”
She shook her head and started up the stairs. “No. There isn't. Thank you for the offer.” She walked up the steps and stopped on the landing of the second floor. “As soon as he manages to detach himself from Star's clutches, send Berserker to me. I'll be in the training room.”
Sunny stared at her retreating back for a moment before shrugging. He wasn't about to argue with her in her current mood.
Half an hour later, Farf stood in the doorway of the training room. Watching as red and gold fire swirled and twisted around Blaze's seated form. He closed the door after him and walked forward, pausing for a moment before walking through the flames. He stopped directly behind her and dropped to his knees. Reaching forward he lifted her heavy hair away from her bare back and draped it over one shoulder. Then ran one scarred hand from the nape of her neck to the small of her back.
“I miss the woad on you, Edana,” he said, sitting back on his heels.
“Frankly, so do I most days. But it isn't appropriate for this time,” she said looking over her shoulder at him. “I take it you remember then.”
He smiled slightly. “Don't I always? The woad is more appropriate on someone like me than on you just now. Though I still see faint marks of it.”
“You were always an excellent second, Jeirn,” she said.
“After all this time, I certainly should be,” he laughed.
“Yes. Do you want your accoutrements returned to you?”
“Nothing would please me more,” he said standing up then pulling his shirt over his head and tossing it outside the circle of flame.
She stood and turned to him. She took him by both wrists and his teeth clenched as pain shot up both arms, across his shoulders and down his back. It was strange that he had actually felt it. He watched in fascination as what looked like trails of fire snaked up his arms leaving designs in their wake. Spirals, arcs and thorns stood out prominently, glowing red for a few moments, flashing to purple and then fading to dark blue. He held both arms out in front of him, admiring the workmanship.
He looked at her expectantly. She handed him a heavy gold torc. He smiled as he settled the weight around his neck. He dropped to one knee in front of her. He put his hands on either side of her waist and leaned his head against her stomach. She threaded her hands through his short hair.
“Are you willing to be my second in this lifetime too, Jeirn?”
He looked up at her. “I am what I've always been. It is my destiny every lifetime. I never have, nor will I ever cease to be your second, Edana.”
“Always good to hear that,” she said, taking his hands and pulling him to his feet. “I suppose you want this returned to you as well.” She handed him a gold ring carved into a wolf's head.
“This I wanted returned to me most of all,” he said, sliding the ring onto the forefinger of his left hand. He felt power pulse and seem to slide along every nerve ending of his body. It flashed through his veins and traced the path of the woad now covering his arms, shoulders and back bringing the full impact of memory with it. He let out what sounded like a cross between a laugh and a howl as all of his senses sharpened and he felt his former abilities return. He drew a shuddering breath as he rode the last wave and crest skittering along his skin. He pulled the patch from his left eye and looked up at her. The two now perfect golden orbs taking on an almost feral gleam.
She smiled and tossed him two matched swords, which he caught deftly.
“Let's see how much you really remember.”

Okay, getting back to the actual story now. ~grin~
Sorry the chapter before this one was a little . . . um . . . odd. It was written on the fly because my editor is driving me crazy to rewrite like five chapters of my book. I'll do better from now on, I promise.
