Blaze sat with her head in her hands, trying to process what she had been told. Farf looked at her worriedly but knew better than to try touching her at that point.

“Je ne comprend pas,” she said quietly. “It doesn't make any sense.”

“I know it doesn't, Edana. I can't seem to figure out the why of it either.”

“Why would he outright ask me to terminate him then do something like this?”

“I don't have those answers for you. The only one who knows why is him.”

She sighed. “There are days when I wish I were as omnipotent as everyone seems to think I am. At least then I'd know what was going on with him and could act accordingly.”

“At least we know who is involved at the top levels of this without needing to put Star through the pain of a search,” he said thoughtfully. “It shouldn't take too much planning to work things out the way you want them on this. Ghost and her little team have had their arrangements made for quite a while now. Skye and Oracle have scanned all of the possible sticking points and had them plan accordingly. Star is supporting the neurological changes of throwing a major glamour over several people since we're not exactly sure if Ghost can hold it and deal with what she needs to at the same time. Weiss is set up to take care of the human factions of this. Schwarz is targeting those who have proven to have gifts. Red Shaman is taking the otherworld dangers out. All the plans are taken care of initially. All we have to do it wait for the private party.”

“That's true. I'll made certain that Star, Schuldig and Sunny managed to get us all invitations as VIP's to the party in Tokyo,” Blaze said.

“That was an excellent idea. Everyone will be there at once and we can remove all of the leaders of the groups at one time.”

“Plus get all of the kids to safety.”

He smiled slightly. “Every thing happens for a reason, Edana. You know that. We only wish for different reasons sometimes. I think this initial vision you had for this mission is finally coming together.”

“I can only hope.”

“You've done everything you can possibly think of to minimize any risks . . .”

“But? I feel one coming on, Jeirn. You've never had any problems speaking your mind as far as I'm concerned. Don't start at this late stage of the game.”

“I think they need the memories reactivated,” he said bluntly.

“I don't want to do that unless it turns out to be a necessity.”

“It's already a necessity. They need to know what they might be thrown against and why. They've already been having the dreams. They're connected so tightly now I don't even think death would separate them. They need all of the information now so they can process it. They need to know what they've been so what they will be is easier for them to deal with.”

“That is an incredibly heavy burden to put on three teenagers.”

“I think they're ready for it and I think they're strong enough to bring those abilities into play as individuals and as a group. You can't protect them forever.”

“You sound just like Chiro some days.”

Schuldig smiled as he watched Skye dance around the heart of the garden. He pushed away from the low wall and walked over to her, knowing that Crawford was watching from the doorway of the house.

“You know, I could watch you dance forever,” he said grinning.

She held out both hands. “Come and help me then.”

He laughed and took her hands, spinning her around at a dizzying rate. They were both laughing and trying to keep time with the music when Skye suddenly stopped. Her eyes grew blank and there seemed to be an odd shiver that ran through her body. Schuldig recognized the signs of an oncoming vision from watching Crawford for so many years and held on tighter to her so she wouldn't fall.

She came out of it a few moments later, clutching his upper arms for added support. Her eyes shot immediately to his and she reached up to touch his face gently.

“Oh, gods, Schu,” she said. The catch in her voice was all he needed in order to know what she had seen.
