Chapter Five
~Day Eighty-Seven~
The sun filtered in through the white curtains and illuminated the room with it's presence. The light glittered on everything in the room from the small table against the wall to the lone sillouette sleeping peacefully on the futon. The golden rays made the figures golden hair stand out even more and the sun gave his honey skin a rich shadow and creamy texture. Absolutely beautiful. The birds perched outside the bedroom window sung their lovely songs and the soft breeze made its way through the window again letting the sun in some more.
The figure rolled over to lie on its back before opening its eyes to reveal beautiful green irisis. Yohji yawned and stretched his body before getting up. He felt much better today, his head hurt some but other than that he felt pretty good. Walking over to the small table he washed his face in the bowl of water that was placed there for him and dressed himself in the spare clothes that his beautiful flower had left for him. Beautiful flower? Aya. He hadn't seen Aya since he fell asleep again last night. He still remembered how Aya thanked him for saving his little brother. He also still remembered what Ayas lips taste like from that splendid dream he had. Pity he didn't think to persue much much more in that wonderful dream of his.
After making himself presentable Yohji left the room in search of his belongings and his beloved horse. When he entered the hotels main room he was immediately grabbed by a pair of strong but slender arms. Spinning around he came face to face with a beautiful redhead but much to his dismay it wasn't the same redhead he was hoping to bump into.
Manx Takatori had grabbed Yohji as soon as he made it into the room and held him close to her. Even as he turned to look at her she didn't let go of him and buried her head in his chest.
"Thank you" she whispered into his chest. Hugging him closer she squeezed her arms tighter and turned her face up to look at him. "Thank you so much for saving my son. He's my precious baby and I wouldn't know what I'd do without him." She leaned forward and on her tiptoes kissed him chastely on the lips before releasing him.
Yohji a little stunned by this only smiled at her and bowed graciously at her. "Madam it is my pleasure to know that I had saved not only your "precious baby" but your very sanity as well. May I say that you are very pleasing to the eye and if jumping into the river again earns another kiss from you I might indeed drain the Kohaku River."
Manx blinked..twice than started laughing, her laughter filled the air and in turn everyone from the neighboring rooms came into theirs. Yohji looked around and noticed that most of the troupe was present minus one sullen redhead. Manx could hardly breathe she was laughing so hard, she needed to compose herself and soon her laughter died down a little.
"Sir may I say that you are quite the charmer. You almost remind me of my husband Shuichi he used to spout poetry to me before we married. It is quite comforting to know that you are alright, you did take quite a blow to the head and we were starting to get worried when you didn't wake up yesterday."
Yesterday? What does she mean by yesterday? Didn't he wake up yesterday? He did and he kissed
Aya. So what does she mean?
"I beg your pardon but you said yesterday?" Yohji asked
Manx nodded her head. Yohji just looked at her. He couldn't have could he?
"H..how long have I been here? How long did I sleep for?" Yohji asked suddenly beginning to panic.
"Two days, you slept all day yesterday and most of this morning. We brought you here two days ago after you and my son were rescued from the river. Aya told me you had woken up briefly that same night and then fell asleep again. You hadn't woken since then, Aya had kept to your side all day yesterday. He's alseep now seeing as how he stayed up all night watching over you. We were afraid you may have suffered a bad concussion and might never wake up. The doctor told us to keep an eye on you and if you ever woke up to fetch him. Which reminds me.." Manx turned around and spotted the person she was looking for. "Farfarello would you go and get the doctor for me, inform him that our ward had just woken up and seems a bit confused. Do hurry please."
Farfarello nodded and quickly left to retrieve the local doctor. Manx turned back around only to see a very confused and also melancholy look on Yohji's face. "Yohjisan are you alright? You look pale someone bring him a cushion, Yohjisan please sit down you probabaly shouldn't even be out of bed yet. Ouka go see if Aya's awake yet would you and tell your father to come quickly." Manx helped lower Yohji down onto the cushion one of the actors got for him.
Yohji froze he didn't even know what was going on right now, he slept a whole day away. A whole day! That's one day he'll never get back, he could have done so much if he hadn't been so..so.. Yohji groaned before burying his face in his hands. So that means that today really isn't day eighty-seven it's day eighty-six. It would explain why he feels much better than before. Still he lost a day that should have been his but instead he missed it. Missed his chance at living a full ninety days full of what should have been his to decide. He wanted to cry. God help him he wanted to cry.
Manx looked worridly at Yohji, something wasn't right. She could feel it. Just as she was observing Yohji pounding footsteps came thundering down the stairs.
"Mother what's wrong? Ouka came bursting into my room yelling something about Yohji being sick. Is everything alright?" Aya ran down the stairs as quickly as he could. When he came upon Yohji and his mother he could see that something wasn't right. Yohji was shaking, his face buried in his hands. Manx stood over him a sad expression on her face. When Aya entered the room she looked over to him and then glanced down to Yohji before looking at Aya again shaking her head.
"I don't know what happened to him. He came down the stairs and I thanked him for saving Omis' life, he made a charming comment that made me laugh than he asked me how long he's been here and when I told him that he's slept a whole day away he just ended up like this." Manx looked down at Yohji again.
Aya walked slowly over to Yohji and kneeled down next to him, "Yohji are you alright?" Aya placed his hand on Yohjis' shoulder. When he tried to move Yohji's hands from his face Yohji pulled away and shook even harder. "Mom I think we need to get him back to his room, he needs someplace quiet and I'll see if I can get him to talk to me." Aya stood up and looked at his mother.
Manx agreed she turned at the staring spectators and started spouting orders to get ready for tonights performance shooing them out of the room. She looked at Aya who was trying to coax Yohji into getting up, she was about to say something when she noticed the look on Ayas' face, he seemed generally worried about Yohji which concerned her for Aya usually kept a cold exterior with everyone except his family. And for him to be showing some facial expression for someone he just met means he has some feeling towards Yohji, but what those feelings were she could only guess. The fact that Aya stayed up all night watching Yohji dosen't help.
Before she could say anything Shuichi came rushing into the room and was asking for an expanation, Manx decided to let Aya help Yohji and took hold of her husbands attention by telling him what had happened.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aya finally got Yohji to stand up and took hold of his arm and led him back to his room. When he reached the room he let Yohji sit down on the futon and crouched down beside him. "Yohji look at me please, tell me what's wrong."
Yohji shook his head fighting the tears that were threatening to fall. He didn't want to look at Aya it would make him cry if he did. Aya wouldn't let things go so easily and again asked him the same question. Yohji just ignored him and tried to come to terms with the realization that he's one day closer to death and felt like he was cheated.
Aya was lost as to what was going through the blonds mind, but something wasn't fairing well that he could see for himself. Someone knocked on the door to the bedroom and Aya stood up and omitted an 'enter', just then the doctor who helped him with Yohji before entered and quickly made his way to his patient and started checking his wound.
Later he announced Yohji to be 'dealing with temporary hallucinations and delusions due to his concussion but otherwise healthy'. Aya glanced at Yohji who was at the moment in a drug induced sleep, he got rather upset and turned hostile when the doctor started touching his head and it took Aya, Farfarello and Shuichi to hold him down so the doctor could give him an injection with a needle full of something called a 'sedative' some western medicine. It was heart wrenching hearing him yell out how he didn't 'want to die like this' what did he mean by that?
When everyone left Aya excused himself from the evenings play to sit by Yohji and look after him. Omi had brought up some food for both him and Yohji for when he wakes up. Aya leaned down to sit by Yohji and just peered at his blissfully sleeping face. He noticed that even asleep Yohji has a slight frown marring his features. Wait a minute, he didn't have that frown last night when he watched him sleep. So he must be so upset about something that it's still haunting him even in his sleep. A slight stir made him look up sharply and Aya noticed Yohji was trying to turn on to his side. The small movement caused some of his golden hair fall on to his face directly over one eye. Ayas' mouthed curved ever so slightly and he couldn't help reaching out to brush back the fallen strand of hair. Touching Yohji's face and feeling the soft skin reminded him of how Yohji had kissed him both times.
"You're blushing again" a soft voice spoke out.
Ayas head snapped up and he pulled his hand away when Yohji grabbed it and pulled it back close to him.
"I thought you were asleep, the doctor said you would be asleep for hours. How can you be awake?"
Yohji laughed softly, "I usually take medicine that's much stronger than that, the only difference between his medicine and mine is that his is more concentrated and it puts me to sleep but that's it. It really isnt' much different than the stuff I usually take."
Aya frowned at this, "what medicine do you take Yohji? And why do you take it?"
Yohji closed his eyes, he really didn't want to talk about this right now, Aya seemed to sense his discomfort because he quickly changed the subject.
"You must be hungry, Omi brought some food for you. You should eat you'll need it if you want to be as healty again."
A deep pang of pain hit Yohji as Aya said the words 'healthy again', as if he know how lucky he is to be healthy Yohji thought.
"I could really go for some milk if you wouldn't mind" Yohji said as he sat up.
Aya stood up and headed for the door, "I'll go see if there is any available, is there anything else you want?"
"no that's all. Oh wait, my horse how is he?" Yohji just suddenly remembered what he was going to do earlier that day.
"Seven is it? He's fine Omi fed him some sugar and an apple earlier today, he's taken it upon himself to tend to your horse personally. As a way of showing his appreciation towards you."
"that's nice of him, how is Omi anyway?"
"doing much better than you at the moment." Aya chuckled "but then again nothing can keep the genki kid down for too long. I'll be right back." He left the room.
As soon as the door shut Yohji reached out to his bag and pulled out his bottle of pills and promptly took two of them before Aya could come back. He needed the pain relief it was what woke him up that and the fact that Aya woke him with his mere touch. His cheek still felt warm where Aya touched him.
During his sedated sleep Yohji had dreamt of spending his life with someone like Aya, loving and beautiful and everything Yohji had ever wanted in a partner. The only thing is that he wont' get to live long so it was only in his dreams that he'll be able to spend time with the fantasy he'd conjured. Obviously conjured up from a living source namely Aya. God was he falling in love with him? 'Cause that would be the worst thing he could do. Not only for himself but for Aya as well.
Yohji brought his knees up and rested his forehead on the palm of one hand. Why is it that just when he thinks that could finally get what he wants life throws him a curve and sends him careening of track. Great! First he had a long life but no one to share it with. Now he finds someone that he could see himself spending his life with only to have three months to share it with. No sorry not three months only eighty-six days. That's right Yohji you lost a day.
Tears were threatening to fall again, God he was so weak! Is this a part of death? Learning to accept the inevitable truth? Screw this! Everyone and everything he's ever done for in his life is finally repaying him by mocking him. Never had he done anything for himself! Everything he's ever done was always to make someone else happy. His father, his brother even his staff at his manor. Asuka was the only one who never demanded or even needed anything from Yohji, he only gave her what she thought she needed and that was to listen to her whenever she said anything. To communicate with her and be by herside at her last moments.
Who's going to be by your side when you die Yohji? Your brother? Most likely not, he'll probably stand outside the door and let someone else tell him when you finally pass away. Shindou might stay by your side but then again he'll probably just run to his 'Yuki' and cry the night away.
No one will be there when you die because just like your father you won't be home will you?
One rebellious tear slipped down to make a trail for the following tears to come. Soon Yohji couldn't hold back anymore and started shaking and sobbing uncontrollably.
That's how Aya found him when he returned to Yohji's bedroom.
