Chapter 20

The Return of Gabriel

Almost encased in his lover's wings Yohji could only kneel behind the silver haired angel and curse. His watch with the hidden wire was lying across the bathroom on the counter where he'd left it the day before. There was no way he'd get to it before the white angel moved on him.

Strangely enough though Yohji could see the white angel talking he couldn't hear anything. And the only sound from Enzeru was a constant low growl deep in chest. The blonde ex-detective tried to move but his lover's wings shifted forcing him back into their protective embrace. He knew it was probably for the best. He'd felt the dark angel's strength and he was weakened from not eating. What would a well-fed immortal death angel be like? He hoped this was as close as he ever came to finding out.

Enzeru growled at Gabriel's words. He wanted to stand, to take the tenshi somewhere else, somewhere that Yohji and Omi weren't but to do that, he would have to leave them vulnerable.

"I don't recall you ever complaining, Gabr-" He cut his words short with a snap of his teeth. Gabriel laughed.

"Come now, what harm could come to your little human lover from knowing my name?" He mocked.

"Why are you here! I told you already that I would not repent! I want to stay here. I have no plans to return to Zennou."

Gabriel was suddenly right in his face and a large hand reached around to caress Enzeru's wing. The dark tenshi moaned as the electric sensations spiked down his spine again.

Yohji heard the clipped off name and wondered why his lover had stopped. But something about the way the white angel's face and eyes looked told him that it might have been a devastating slip of the tongue. Suddenly the white angel was right beside them one hand running across his lover's wing. The blonde clenched his fists hearing his lover moan. He'd already realized that the touch on his wings caused immense pleasure and that it could actually be used to make his lover vulnerable.

Taking advantage of the moment Yohji stood knowing that it wasn't smart but he had to protect the black winged angel as much as Enzeru wanted to protect him.

"Leave him alone," he hissed still cloaked from the waist down by the beautiful wings. "He's been punished enough just leave him alone."

Gabriel turned a curious eye to Yohji. He raised an eyebrow. "My, my Enzeru you sure know how to pick them. Have you fed from him yet?" He touched Yohji's forehead, lifting his hair and smirked at Enzeru's growl. His other hand continued to work on the curve of one wing to keep Enzeru weakened. "He doesn't have the mark, so my guess is no."

"Don't you dare touch him! He is mine and you cannot take him! He isn't marked, as you said. To take him before his time would mess with Zennou's plan. That would have dire consequences, and you know it tenshi." Enzeru spoke through clenched teeth, trying to control his body. As Gabriel let go of his wing, he stood between Yohji and the tenshi, putting his hands together at chest level to draw his scythe.

Gabriel laughed, putting his hands in the same position before him, his chin lowered to look at the dark angel through thick lashes. "You want to fight over him, Enzeru?" He spat the name out like it tasted foul in his mouth. "If I win, I take his blood and mark him, you win, I will leave you alone."

Yohji jerked away as the white angel touched his forehead and lifted his hair. He had an idea of what he was looking for and his lovers' words confirmed it as fought first with words and logic.

The ex-Detective stared appalled as his lover stood and began to create a glowing green scythe between his hands. It looked at if he was pulling it directly from the palm of his hand. The other angel was simply watching his lover. He said something that the blonde couldn't hear but the way his lover tensed and the look on the white angels told him it wasn't good.

"No, Enzeru, I'm not worth it. I'm not!" he hissed trying to move but the wings had him caged between Enzeru and the wall. He slammed the side of a fist into the wall ignoring the pain in his anger and fear.

Enzeru ignored his angry lover and continued to draw his scythe. The energy in it flickered a bit, he was still too weak and he knew it, but Gabriel had challenged him for Yohji's life, and he would win, no matter the consequences. He growled as the white tenshi laughed.

"You are weak, why not just feed from him, or the one downstairs and get it over with?" He tipped his chin towards the floor as he said this, his eyes gleaming with hunger as his teeth began to grow.

"You touch that boy and I will redeem myself only to kill you!" He growled.

Gabriel chuckled again and drew his weapon. A long broad sword emerged from his palm, glowing red and vibrant with his life energy. He spread his hands out to his sides, pulling the weapon and then brandished it as he took a fighting stance.

Hearing his lover's words, Yohji's eyes flew wide thinking of Omi. He was downstairs, alone, unprotected. Ken had called them to say he would be late and then finding out the shop was closed for the day had decided not to come home until later tonight.

He stared at the weapon the white angel created between his own hands watching as the glowing sword grew and grew. It was longer and the blade wider than Aya's kitana. He wanted to push past his lover's wings and make a break for his watch on the counter, but knew the time for that was long gone. Any distraction now would be his dark angel's death, as well as his own.

In his head he prayed to whatever higher power might be listening, maybe even the one that his lover once answered to, to keep the younger Weiss member safe. If Enzu's words were true, and he didn't doubt them, then none of them bore the mark of hell and maybe even had a role still to play somewhere. Maybe that alone would save his friends.

Tears of rage misted his eyes as he watched the white angel drop into a fighting stance. His lover shifted slightly but there was little he could do trapped in the porcelain tub, trying to protect him. He hated feeling so helpless and it had happened much too often since the day Asuka had died. And this time there was no Aya or Persia to come charging in, guns blazing and sword flashing to help save the day.

'Please, if you're watching. If you're listening, don't let this happen," he pleaded silently to the elusive power that had been his lover's boss.

Enzeru growled and stepped out of the tub, keeping his wings spread wide behind him. Gabriel laughed as he watched the dark angel falter a bit.

"I will not fight you unless you are at full strength, Exiled." He drew the tip of his sword to his wrist, slashing it open. Droplets of light fell from the gash and Enzeru stiffened and whimpered at the sight and scent of the tenshi's blood. Gabriel stalked forward and grabbed Enzeru's hair, jerking his head back forcefully and pushed him to his knees. The scent of the blood was driving Enzeru's senses mad. His teeth grew and ached and he cried out as the pain shot through his body. He dropped the scythe as the wound was pressed to his lips and his vision went black, as he tasted the sweet nectar on his lips.

With a savage growl, his angel instincts kicked in and he wrenched free of Gabriel's grasp, latching onto his arm with brutal force and tore at the flesh, sucking the blood down his throat as his wings flapped and jerked behind him. The familiar feeling of the surge of power, the savage hunger and lust for blood returned to him and he dug his fingers into the tenshi's arm, refusing to let him go as Gabriel tried to take his arm back.

He raised his sword and set it at Enzeru's throat, pushing the man back with it. Enzeru let go with one final tear at the wrist and sat back on the balls of his feet, crouched down using one hand to steady himself. He raised his head to look at Gabriel, the white light dripping down his chin to turn black on his chest.

"No!" Yohji yelled and moved toward the edge of the tub as the white angel grabbed Enzeru's hair and dragged him to his knees. But the look thrown his direction stopped him in his tracks.
