Chapter 35

Nagi

Nagi crept around the corner of the building using the wall for support. Only determination had gotten him this far. He'd known
from the beginning that he was playing with fire by seeing Omi behind
his own team's back. But he hadn't been able to help himself. From
the very beginning he'd been interested in youngest Weiss Assassin.

They had run into each other at school when they'd both been
transferred into the same advanced programming class. A class
normally reserved for upper classmen. They had come to a silent
truce almost with the first eye contact, avoiding each other as best
they could. That is until the day the Teacher put them together on a
project and they had been forced to work together for three weeks.

They had already harbored a mutual respect for each other when it
came to their nocturnal skills. Over the three weeks that they spent
working on the project they came to respect each other for their
computer skills, logic and intelligence. By the end of the three
weeks they had become friends. They began to meet after school and on the weekends to talk, discuss hacking and programming problems and bitch about the latest unfairness of life as a member of an elite assassination team. The two of them had never actually faced each other on the field and honestly felt no antagonism for each other either, which made the blossoming friendship easier.

Their first romantic interlude had been less than romantic. Nagi had
arrived at their secret meeting place battered and bruised after a
round with an angry Crawford. Omi had comforted him, holding him and protecting him until the shaking had stopped. Nagi had lifted his
head to look up at the older boy and found them face-to-face, so
close that their lips touched. The first soft touch of their lips
had led to another, then to another and finally to a true kiss. The
rest as they said was history.

As their relationship blossomed they'd started taking more chances in
order to see each other. Omi never went to Nagi, the younger boy
wouldn't allow it, terrified of the archer being caught and killed by
his teammates. But with Aya gone they had decided that it was safe
enough for Nagi to come to the apartment over the shop. The other
two members of Weiss were less likely to kill first and ask questions
later than the members of Schwarz were.

It was inevitable that they would finally get caught and they had.
By Yohji, returning home late from a bar one night. Luckily there
was little reason for questions. He'd caught them standing in the
door of Omi's apartment kissing goodnight. He'd given them a stern
look, ruffled Nagi's hair, earning himself a glare, and gone into his
apartment calling back to them not to do anything that he wouldn't
do. Omi had laughed and yelled back that, that gave them tons of
leeway and returned to the kissing.

Now Schwarz knew. Crawford had finally had a vision while they had
been away on the training exercises. Thankfully he'd waited until
they had returned to Japan to do anything about it, otherwise Nagi
knew he would be dead right now. The conditioning that he'd been
given by Essets, when he'd first been trained, prevented Nagi from
using his powers against any authority figure in the organization.
That left him totally vulnerable to his larger, stronger group leader.

The one thing he hadn't expected was the support he'd received from
his other two team members. Schuldich had tried to intervene, trying
to calm his lover and gotten a broken arm and almost a broken nose
for his effort. Finally the German used his telepathy to disorient
Crawford and it had allowed Farfarello to get Nagi up and out of
their safe house. The Irishman had given him a tight hug and pressed
one of his many knives into the telekinetic's hand, knowing he was
too hurt and too tired to be able to use his powers if he ran into
trouble on the street. Then with a shove to start him moving the
knife wielder ran back to the house to aid Schuldich.

For all Nagi knew they were both dead now for helping him. But he
doubted it. Neither of them had undergone the conditioning that he
had because their powers weren't deemed `a possible risk'. They were also both bigger and stronger than he was, so that they could hold their own with Crawford where he couldn't. He had never realized that they even cared about him one-way or the other, until now.

The small brunette pushed himself off the wall and staggered to the
stairs. He hung onto the railing and hauled himself up to the second
floor praying that his boyfriend was home. He pounded on the outside
apartment door crying Omi's name but heard no response from inside.

After several minutes he slumped in exhaustion against the door. A
sound down below in the alley startled him and he scuttled away from
the door pressing himself tight into a shadowy corner created by the
wall and the balcony railing.

A cat ran out of the alley and he relaxed pulling his knees up to his
chest. He whimpered as his ribs protested and he prayed that
whatever mission his boyfriend and the rest of Weiss were on wouldn't take much longer.

************
Legolas step out onto the balcony, adjusting the bandanna with one hand and sipping from the cup in his other. He felt something rub up against the back of his legs and he chuckled, looking down at an old alley cat. "So, came to beg for some more food." he said, the cat meowing at him. With a smile, he stepped back into his apartment to retrieve the bag of cat food. He filled the little bowl and smiled as the old cat seemed to jump on it. He turned back, watching as false dawn began to make itself known. He still had a few hours before he had to been at the college for his first day of teaching.

He lifted his head up, catching the sound of a whimper on the wind.
Studying the building across from his own apartment, his sharp eyes
searched out for any unusual shadows. He thought he saw something but wasn't sure. "Better check it out. Someone might have had an accident."

Legolas went over to the other building. He reached the stairway and went up, eyes and ears sharp as he moved. Stepping onto the second floor balcony, he saw something within the shadows stiffen. The elf went a little farther, stopping, and going to one knee. "I won't hurt you." he whisper. The figure seemed to move even farther back into the shadows. He looked up at the fading stars. "I heard you whimper. Are you alright?" he asked. Green eyes turn back to look at the boy, his sharper eyes taking in the condition of the child. "Who hurt you child?" he asked, moving forward.

He froze when he saw something flash at him in the faint light. "I swear that I will not hurt you." Legolas said, back off a bit from the brown hair boy. He tried to think of something to gain the child's trust. "We'll make a trade. I'll show you something about me if you let me treat your wounds for you." He reached up for the bandanna. "My name is Legolas..." he said, removing the strip of cloth and freeing his pointed ears, "I'm an Elf..." He held out his hand, very slowly to the boy. "Will you place your trust in me now?"

{Notes: Special thanks to Starlin for playing Legolas! It was fun and we all hope to see more of your yummy elf in the future!}
