Chapter 3

"Hey, Michiel!"

The locks on her door turned, and a wet, frizzy head stuck itself out as the door opened. "Oh, Schuldig. I'm kinda... not ready. Just got out of the shower. Give me a minute?" She shut the door firmly, and the sound of cursing in a mix of languages came clearly through the door. A half hour later, Michiel opened the door again, now clothed and her hair dry and free of curls. "Sorry for the wait."

"Michiel..." Schu started. "I'm rather certain my grandmother never did anything like that with an iguana."

She blushed brilliantly. "Well, if you had just waited a half hour before going to get me..." Michiel shivered, pulling gloves out her coat pockets. "Schuldig, I know I've said this before, but... I HATE the cold."

The German laughed, placing his arm around her. "I've noticed."

"Schuldig, if you value that arm, you will take it off of me." Michiel looked up at him, her eyes narrowed a bit.

Silently, keeping the laughter down that was trying to bubble up down, he took the arm off of her shoulders. "Sure, freeze if you want."

Her mouth formed a silent "oh". "I'm sorry. Most men, when doing that, are trying to get me into their bed. I don't like men like that."

An orange eyebrow rose. "I wouldn't have pegged you for a lesbian."

Her arms across her chest right under her breasts. "And I wouldn't have pegged you for sucking Mr. Crawford off every night, so we're equal. Kind of." She shook her head. "You wouldn't understand, but I'm not interested in anyone you want to fix me up with. No matter how nice she is." Her ice blue eyes swept up to the sky. "I don't like women like that either."

The eyebrow's partner joined its mate in the hairline. "Alright, Michi, you've confused me. You say you're not sexually interested in men or women?"

"No, I'm saying I'm not sexually interested in anything. Period, and why the hell do you care?" she asked, annoyed. "Oh, yeah, that's right. Despite the fact you already have a bed warmer, you want another, this time female." Michiel snorted. "You... man."

Schuldig smiled, flipping his orange hair over his shoulder. "Yup, Michi, very man."

She glared at him. "Don't call me Michi." Michiel frowned as Schuldig's smile grew larger. "Hey, I'm not amusing right now. I'm very serious, and stop laughing! You... SCHULDIG!"

"Hey, ow, Michi! Michi, ow, ow, Michiel! That really hurts!"

"Good," she muttered. "It was suppose to. Aren't you suppose to take me to where the mission is?"

"I would if you wouldn't hit me like that," Schuldig muttered. "Woman."

Michiel flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Yup, Schu, very woman."

"What are you two laughing about?" Crawford asked irritably, his arms crossed over his chest.

"Aw, what's wrong Mr. Crawford?" Michiel asked, gasping for breath. "Didn't polish the jewels before leaving?"

Crawford's frown only deepened. "Schuldig, if you keep laughing like that, you're going to sleep on the couch."

That stopped the laughter. "You wouldn't," he asked, his eyes wide with fear. "Hey, Michiel, ow, I didn't say anything about you!"

"You were thinking it."

"Despite appearances, I do a lot of thinking!" Schuldig retorted. "I don't like people listening in."

Michiel gave him a bored look. "Then cloak your thoughts, Schuldig. Just because you're not used to having another telepath around doesn't mean you can get sloppy." She crossed her arms, shivering. "So, is this all just an elaborate way to get me to stand in the cold for a bit, or is there actually going to be a mission?"

Crawford nodded briskly. "Nagi and Farfarello are setting up the external bombs. Our mission is to get the leader of this company out of the race, and to bomb the building."

The girl blinked a few times. "I wasn't aware that there were other members of Schwarz." She didn't even look at Schuldig this time. "Schu, you know, all I got on my machine was this." Her voice rose to a shaky, shrill pitch. "You, Michiel, are going to Japan to awaken gifts in the members of some assassin group with a German name I can't remember. At the airport, you will be picked up by Schuldig and Bradley Crawford of Schwarz, a rival assassin group." Michiel's voice returned to its normal fluty soprano. "And that's all SZ would tell me."

"I personally like the imitation," Schuldig deadpanned. "And the group's name is Weiss, Michi. Hey, put the fist down."

Michiel snorted, and lowered her arm. "Do not" at this she introduced her heel into Schuldig's instep "call me Michi. And Mr. Crawford, if you keep laughing like that, Schu may make you sleep on the couch..."
