Snippet XIV

Aya walked into the room, his steps lacking some of the purpose that he normally had. “I've been thinking.”

“That's nice.” Kudoh didn't look up from playing his video game; he had finally gotten to the final boss and was currently kicking his butt. It had taken him seventeen hours of continuous play, but it was worth it!

“What do you think about going exclusive?”

“Exclusive?” Kudoh's voice went up about two octaves and his hands let go of the controller. There was a pause as Yohji's character got beheaded.

“Yeah, you know, exclusive. It means -”

“I know what exclusive means, Fujimiya.”

“Good, so what do you think?”

Green, bloodshot eyes finally left the TV screen where they had been fixated and were now staring directly into violet, “I dunno, I mean, that requires a lot oh hard work and com, com, com…”

“Commitment, yes.”

“Do you honestly think I have that in me?”

“Well, you've been committed to something before, haven't you?

“Well, yeah but that was a long time ago and I was a different person back then.”

“Kudoh, you were just committed to playing that video game for a full day!” Aya turned away slightly, “And it's not as if it's for life.”

“Well, how long are we talking about then? I need a time frame, something to work with - and have you thought about the girls, what will they think?”

“They'll do the same thing they've always done.”

“But, it's not the same if I can't encourage them.”

“Kudoh.” There was a definite growl in the redheaded man's voice. Yohji decided to backtrack a little.

“What do Omi and Ken think?”

“Hn.”

“Haven't told them yet, have you?”

“I thought it might make more sense if you were by my side, before I approached them.”

Aya wanted to show a united front, wanted to prove to the others that they were ready for this, had thought it through. And Aya was actually talking to him about it, trying to persuade him instead of ordering him as he might have done. Aya was growing up, so maybe it was time he did as well. “Alright, fine. Just one final thought.”

“Hn.”

“Do you think I'm good enough?”

“Of course, would I have suggested it, if I hadn't.”

If Yohji hadn't been trying to be stoic, he would have been beaming or dancing or possibly both - Aya hadn't even hesitated! Aya believed in him! Yohji was so happy that he didn't even mind that Aya had interrupted his unsaved game. “Okay! We'll make the Koneko exclusive. High-end deals only! Go tell Omi and Ken, while I finish this up.” Yohji plonked back down in front of the TV, he only had fourteen hours and nineteen minutes to finish the game before his holiday ended.

“Kudoh!”
