Chapter One: Verschwinden

Tap. Tap. Tappity-tap-tap.

The sounds of fingers pounding on a keyboard endlessly sounded through the dark room as the blonde bishonen Omi worked away, studying the enormous amounts of data that had been sent to him by Kritiker in regards to Weiss' new mission targets.

Their group alias was "Verschwinden," meaning "Disappearing" in German. The data on the four members was so extensive that it included everything from the basics, such as height, weight, weapon, etc., to how many times any of them have been to the hospital, including the hospital report and bill for the entrance and care. Omi had to go through and find all crucial information, searching out for weaknesses in their team, and comparing that to Weiss.

It was 3:34 AM when Omi left his laptop to get some more coffee (which was beginning to be liquid life and the drink of the God's in Omi's tired and baggy eyes). When he came back to his PC, there was an instant message on his screen. Omi blinked a few times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating due to exhaustion, and looked at the screen again. Sure enough, the window was still there.

He reseated himself in his chair and looked at the message. It was written in English, not Japanese, meaning that Kritiker hadn't sent it. That thought scared Omi, because his machine was a Kritiker issue laptop, networked directly to Kritiker and no one else. Yet here was this strange message in a foreign language on his screen. He took out a piece of paper and a pencil and copied the message, then attempted to send a reply.

However, as soon as he hit the enter button his laptop crashed. Omi turned the machine on again quickly, however when it was fully booted, all information pertaining to Verschwinden had…disappeared. Omi stared in disbelief at his PC. Then he looked at the note in his hand.

"`Beware the Shadow Man. His time will come when the light goes out, for in darkness evil things shall things disappear'," Youji read aloud. He glanced up at his younger companion Omi in more than slight confusion. "What's that supposed to mean? The `Shadow Man'? If ya ask me, it sounds like a bunch of bull," he said, handing the note back to the bishonen.

"Maybe, but this bunch of bull came attached to a virus that whipped out all the information about our new targets. And some had to have hacked into the main Kritiker server to get a link to my PC. That can't just be a coincidence! You were a detective, tell me you don't see the pattern here!" Omi said, following Youji around the house. Omi had almost immediately fallen asleep after putting in a report to Kritiker, as well as a request for another copy of Verschwinden's information. As a result, he had over slept, missing Aya and Ken on their way out the door, and being stuck with Youji who could care less about anything today because they had to work.

"Look Bishonen, I'm not saying there's no pattern, because you and I can both see as plain as day who did it, but right now we have other things to worry about. So long as we have nothing to go on, we have to play it cool. So don't fret so visibly, you'll give yourself immature wrinkles and scare away all your cute little fan girls," with that said, Youji disappeared to open up shop for the morning sales. Omi just sighed, deciding that Youji might actually be right, and followed the older man out.

Aya and Ken had left early to do some investigating of their own, checking out hotels and rentable establishments for new checking ins. By 2:30 PM they met at a café for lunch and discussed their findings, each coming up with zip.

"This is impossible, they might not even be in Tokyo yet. For all we know they're hiding out in Shikoku or going sight-seeing in Kyoto!" Ken almost hollered in his exasperation.

"Impossible or not, we still have to keep looking. Omi will research the hotel check ins for places outside Tokyo later, but right now we have to search here to attempt to prepare for what might come next," Aya said calmly, taking a sip of his tea.

Ken sighed in defeat. Aya was right, but Ken hated anything that took too long with nothing to show for their efforts. When they'd finished with their meals, they left the café, going their separate ways to continue their search for Verschwinden. When they returned to the trailer-shop much later that evening, they had been to all of the listed hotels, motels, and recently rented-out office spaces and apartments.

"Kobanwa Aya-kun, Ken-kun! Any luck?" Omi asked as they walked in the door.

"For the love of God don't ask!" Ken said, storming off to his room.

"Didn't find anything?" Youji asked, handing Aya a cup of coffee that he had made for himself, but Aya looked in desperate need of.

Aya took the cup and shook his head. "How's the research work coming Omi? Have you compiled target files yet?" Aya asked.

The bishonen swallowed hard and paled a shade or two. "Well, truthfully Aya-kun, I just got another copy of the data from Kritiker an hour ago," Omi said, watching his redhead leader cautiously. "You see, last night when I was compiling data for the files, I left for a second to get more coffee. When I came back, this message was on my screen," Omi handed Aya the piece of notepaper that had the English message on it. "When I tried to send a reply, my computer crashed, taking everything about Verschwinden and deleting it." Omi finished, watching Aya read the note.

After a moment, Aya looked back up at Omi. "Well what the hell are you still doing here? You've got work to do. We need those files as soon as possible," He said, handing Omi the notepaper back and walking to his room with his cup of coffee. Omi just stared.

"Why am I the only one who's worried about this?" The blonde bishonen sighed.

"Because the rest of us saw it coming," replied Youji from behind, holding another cup of coffee. "Now I suggest you do what Aya's told ya to, we need those files to know what we're up against."

Omi sighed again. "Hai! Hai!" With that he grabbed Youji's coffee and headed for the back room, ignoring Youji's cursing protests to the stolen coffee. Omi still couldn't help the uneasy feeling that he had. Someone, no, correction, -Verschwinden- had hacked into his PC and virused HIM, Omi, king of the cyber world. However that's not what was really bothering him, it was the fact that the message hadn't appeared until after he had left the room that the laptop was in. Meaning that someone or something was most likely watching him.

*Stop it! You're just being paranoid!* Omi thought to himself as he sat down at his computer. Then again, just because he was paranoid, didn't mean they weren't out to get him. And being paranoid is part of his job.

Chapter Two: Encounter #1

A/N: Naa…that took along time to write (believe it or not). BTW, I wasn't trying to make Verschwinden very much like Weiss, just the opposite actually. I was trying to be as creative as possible. Also, if you want mini bios of the girls, look below. Pictures will come soon, I still have to fix my scanner ^^; so, other than that, whacha think? I mean, really. I need feedback.
