[i ; wishing for love and a gun]
--------
Do you ever wish that you would wake up some morning and find you're in a totally different place… better than the one you went to sleep in? I do, almost every single night. Well, maybe not that often. Sometimes I'm too drunk to care… but I do wake up in a different place; usually a nameless person's bed. Sometimes, though, I'll find myself wishing for just one person. A life to share, to talk with, a life to love and give me love in return. I know who I wish for… I see him everyday; I have for the past three years of my life. His name is…
Ken starts pounding on the door and yelling at me. Damn, why does he always do this? "Hey, Yoji-kun! You'd better get out of bed soon, `cause Manx-san is one her way over with a mission for us, and Ran's getting kinda bitchy down there!"
… Fujimiya Ran. I've wanted him for a very long time. I want him more than anything in the world… well, except maybe a gun. I'd use to shoot that idiot Ken in the foot for bothering me.
"Whatever, Ken. Oh, wait…I don't want our fearless leader to yell at me or anything like that. It's too scary! Oh, no, better go hide… fuck off, Ken…"
I'm answered by a frightened and surprised squeal from Ken and someone running away down the hall. Let me guess... The door to my room slams open, and sure enough, there stands Ran. He walks over and glares down at me. "Get out of bed, Yoji. Manx will be here…"
I wave my hand, cutting him off, and smile seductively. I lift my arms above my head and stretch, aware that he is trying not to look at me. I'm glad that I didn't wear a shirt to bed last night. "I know, Ran. But wouldn't you rather join me in my nice, warm, comfortable bed? Room for one more…" I wink at him and reach out to take his hand.
Ran allows me to take his hand, but pulls it back soon after. He steps over to the door, not breaking eye contact with me. His face is strangely blank, like he's hiding something from me. He leaves quietly, not looking back at me.
Well, that's a new one. Usually, if I try to get him to go to bed with me, he'll yell or give me a death glare or simply just ignore me. But over the past few months, he's really calmed down, especially since Aya-chan woke up from her coma. That day had been the first time I had ever seen Ran smile.
Oh, well… better luck next time. I sigh and crawl out of bed. I have a quick shower and get dressed before heading downstairs. I'm greeted, as usual, by a cup of black coffee and a cheerful smile from Omi. "Ohayo, Yoji-kun! Manx-san just arrived. They're all downstairs. She said she didn't need me for this mission, so I'm making breakfast. Want anything?"
I laugh and ruffle his soft, unruly hair. "No thanks, bishounen. Not too hungry. Don't take a long time making those losers their breakfast, or you'll be late for school!" I smile at him and go downstairs, our unofficial `meeting room'. Manx is just turning on the lights when I sit down beside Ran on the couch. He doesn't look at me, or even acknowledge the fact that I'm here.
Manx rolls her eyes and stands in front of me. "Excellent timing, as usual, Yoji. You're missed the debriefing again. Oh, well… I'll just give you the easiest job. An illegal drug and weapon trade ring has being going on for about six months now, working out of a nightclub. Your mission is to go in, kill the leaders, and destroy the warehouse. Do you know where the Kuroibara is?"
I nod. "Yeah, I've been there a few times. There's a small warehouse in the back. I assume that's their main base for the ring."
Manx smiles. "You're catching on. Now, you and one other person will go undercover at the club, and the third will cut the power for the club and wait. Ran and Ken, take your pick…"
"I call the power!" Ken jumps out of his seat and runs over to Manx, acting like a kid asking for the last piece of candy. "I am not going in a club, especially with Yoji. You'd probably make me dress in weird leather stuff and make me wear make-up or something like that." He conveniently doesn't look at Ran, who is giving him a glare that just screams, "Die, you fucking little shit!" Although Ran never swears, you can tell he's right pissed off.
Manx rolls her eyes again. "Okay, then… Ran, you and Yoji will meet at the club. After forty-five minutes, at around 11:30, Ken will cut the power and trigger the alarm. The club and anyone within a radius of four kilometers will be evacuated. Yoji and Ken will rendezvous at the warehouse and plant the bomb. Ran, you stay in the club and wait for the leaders. Once you're all done, return here. It is imperative that you are not seen leaving the area together. Leave the club separately. Any questions?"
Ran stands up and paces around the room, occasionally throwing really nasty glares at Ken. "I don't see why two of us are required to be at the club…"
I laugh at him, ignoring the glare he sends me. "Lighten up, Ran! It won't be that bad… Hell, you might even have fun! Besides, think of how much you'll learn about my night life!"
Ken snorts at me. "Whatever, Yoji. You never go out anymore. Oh, uh… just a thought… I don't think Ran has anything that he could wear to a club. What is he supposed to wear?"
Well, if it were up to me… a whole lot of nothing. "Don't worry. Ran, you can borrow something from me. Of course, they might be a bit big on ya…"
Ran turns to me and smirks. "Don't flatter yourself, Kudou. You may be taller and longer limbed than I am, but I have muscle in places you never will. Besides… your clothes might a little tight in some areas. I'll find something." He walks up the stairs without a second glance back at us.
Ken sits down beside me, his mouth open and gaping like a fish gasping for air. "Did he just… insult you?"
I shrug and light a smoke, ignoring Manx's snickers. "Like I should know. All I care about is what I'm gonna wear…hey! Wait a damn minute! Ran just insulted the size of my…"
"Breakfast, anyone?" Omi's sweet little face appears over my shoulder, smiling and trying not to laugh at me. I suppose he thinks Ran's joke was just fucking hilarious. I follow everyone up stairs to the kitchen, thinking about tonight's mission, and why Ran didn't make more of a fuss about being alone with me. He usually tries to avoid getting close to me, as if he thinks I'll jump him or something. I'd love to do that… take him totally by surprise… show him how much I…
"Hurry up Youji-kun, or Kenken's gonna eat all of your breakfast!"
Rolling my eyes, I push Ran out of my mind and join my other teammates.

I am not conceited.
I really don't give a shit about what people think or say. It's okay, because I know I'm not full of myself. I just happen to think that I'm good-looking, I have great hair, and I have an excellent taste in clothes.
I'm not conceited… I'm just stating the obvious.
Okay, so maybe I am just a little conceited. I can't help it. I look in the mirror and I see a tall guy with long blonde hair, dark green eyes, and a slight tan. I turn around in circles, making sure my clothes look good from every angle: black leather pants that are so tight they're like a second skin and a thin, black cotton shirt with tight see-through sleeves.
"Damn, but I look good. Ran better watch his ass tonight…"
I look at the clock; it's almost 10:30. He should be there by now. I leave quietly, not disturbing Omi, who's busily typing away on his computer. I walk downtown to the club. It's too risky to drive, and it's not very far from our house.
As soon as I get in, I notice several changes. The music is the biggest. It used to be all dance and techno, but now it's… weird. It's kind of a strange blend of deathmetal and trance. Ran must be in agony! He only listens to that classical shit. Speaking of that beautiful redhead, I should find him. I start towards the bar, where I'm supposed to meet him. I see him at the end of the bar, surrounded by both guys and girls. They're all probably trying to get him to dance. He ignores all of them.
I watch him from a distance for a few minutes. He looks amazing. He's wearing close fitting black leather pants… not as tight as mine, but they look so good on him. His shirt is a deep blue, and it hugs his body. He only has one button done up, allowing for brief glimpses of muscled stomach and chest… oh my God… does he have his navel pierced?
I shake myself and walk towards him, smiling at the sight of him in leather pants… I smile even more at the thought of taking off those leather pants. As soon as he sees me, he breaks away from the crowd around him and stalks over to me. Before I can say anything, he grabs my face between his pale hands and - is he wearing nail polish? - he kisses me.
Kisses me? He practically fucks my mouth with his tongue. I recover quickly from the initial shock and respond with equal ferocity. I suck on his tongue and grab his ass, pulling him hard against me. And then, as suddenly as it started, Ran breaks the kiss. Panting slightly, he turns his head and glares over his shoulder smugly. The crowd that had been swarming around him slowly dissipates. Some of the girls give us incredibly sickened looks, and most of the guys glare at me with pure jealousy in their eyes. Ran turns away from me and walks in the direction of a table in the back corner. I follow him, feeling very confused and very, very aroused.
"Ran, what the Hell was that all about? You do realize that I'm extremely turned on now… you should learn to finish what you start."
"Shut up, Kudou. They would not leave me alone, so I told them I was waiting for my… friend. Of course, they didn't believe me. When you came over, I had to make it look like we were together. It had to be convincing. Sorry." He doesn't sound very sorry, and I'm about to say so when he lights a cigarette.
"Jesus, Ran! I thought I knew you pretty well, but I was obviously wrong. You keep surprising me tonight! First, you're dressed better than I am… you're wearing black nail polish, and you have a piercing in your navel. And now you're smoking! Anything else I need to know about?"
Ran smirks and puts his combat boot clad feet on the table. "I have a silver ring through my right nipple and a tattoo on my lower back. And no, you may not see them."
Damn, and I was gonna ask him, too.
When the Hell did he get all of this done? Wait… I don't wanna know. My heart probably couldn't take it. That, or I'd die from shock. My guess is that he used to go to clubs frequently. I wonder why he stopped. I'm about to ask him what his tattoo is of when I hear someone walk up behind me and clear their throat. Ran's narrowed eyes flicker up over my head. I stand and turn around, and I look up into the mocking eyes of a very drunken man. I try to ask him why he came over, but he pushes me aside and moves over towards Ran, leering at him.
"Why do you want? Can't you see we're trying to talk?" My question goes ignored as the man reaches out and takes a handful of Ran's hair in his fist, pulling him closer. Ran flinches, but makes no move to try and get away. The man laughs, then finally acknowledges my presence.
"I want to borrow your boy for awhile. I won't be very long with him."
He pulls out a knife and holds it where I can see it. Brief fear flashes in Ran's bright violet eyes. Furious, I grab his arm and yank him away from the man. Ran stumbles a little and falls against my chest, but he doesn't pull away from me. "He is not my boy… and he certainly isn't for some fucking asshole like you to come and drag into the alley for a quick screw." I put my arm around Ran's thin shoulders protectively. "You should leave before I get angry…"
The man swears loudly at me then stumbles in the direction of the bar, probably looking for a more willing partner. Ran mutters something under his breath and slowly disengages himself from me. I think he said thank you. He sits down and lights another cigarette, sighing through the smoke. "That's the reason I don't go to clubs anymore… I have to deal with people like that idiot. I don't know why I froze like that. I felt… scared… but I do not know why."
I sit down beside him, grinning. "It's okay. I just couldn't stand the thought of that guy getting to fuck you before I do…"
"Have you ever wondered why I would never go to bed with you, Yoji? Think about the way you treat me, and the way you ask me… be serious for once, Yoji. Say what you're feeling." Ran stares at his smoke, watching the tobacco and paper slowly burn to ash.
Did he just give me hints on how to get him to sleep with me?! I wonder how many drinks he had before I met up with him. But as I watch him sitting there, half-hidden in shadow and smoke, he doesn't meet my gaze, as if he is ashamed or afraid…
I move my chair closer to him, close enough so that when I lean in, he can feel my lips brushing his skin when I whisper in his ear. "I'm sorry, Ran… I can't help it… I want you so much. You drive me nearly insane with lust. I want to feel your body under mine, completely at my mercy… I want to taste you… I want to hear you moan my name and beg for my touch…"
Ran's breath hitches and he trembles as I move my hand slowly up the inside of his thigh. I turn my head and run my tongue over his defined cheekbone, then down to his parted lips. Just before I kiss him, Ran twists his face away from me, panting softly. "T…time… mission…"
"Ah, shit…" I pull back and stand up. Ran puts out his smoke and gazes up at me. "Take care of Ken… and yourself." I nod and turn to leave, not looking back at him, because if I did, I know I would want to take him in arms and never let go.
At that moment, the lights go out, the alarm sounds, and the screaming begins. I go out the back door and head towards the warehouse, trying to shake off the feeling that something is terribly wrong.
~~*~~*~~
The mission was successful, from both Ken's perspective and mine. We planted the bomb and it went off, with no civilian casualties. We made it home safely, and know we're just waiting for Ran to get in. He should be back any minute.
But by one o'clock, he's not back; he hasn't called or given any indication of he is okay. Ken refuses to go to bed, and Omi, who woke up when we came home, won't go back to sleep. They both insist on being here with me. We all sit in the kitchen, waiting in silence. Suddenly, the doorbell rings. "Why would Ran-kun ring the bell? What if he's hurt?!" Ken, as usual, goes into a panic at the slightest sign of trouble. I sigh and push back my chair, giving Ken a smack up the side if his head and telling him to calm down. I open the door, preparing to yell at Ran for making us worry…
There's no one here. I look up and down the street, to see if anyone is around. The area is deserted. As I close the door, a small, glittering object catches my eye. I bend down for a closer look. Its Ran's silver cross necklace, the one that Aya-chan bought for him the same day she woke up. Attached to it is a note written in what appears to be blood:
We have your pet cat
If you try and find him…
He will die.
