Part 2:

MAKE YOUR SELF TO HOME

The four boys awoke the next morning to find a surprise waiting for them on their couch in the main living room they shared. Kaeri was curled up in to a small ball on it, draped in the throw that had been on the back of the rocking chair. Somehow, despite how small she was, she managed to take up the entire thing.
"Oh, come on! No way, I'm gonna miss the game now!" Ken complained loudly as he caught sight of her. The room hadn't been very big, and so the way it was arranged, the couch was the only seat that allowed anyone to see the T.V.
"Shh. You'll wake her up." Omi hissed at him from the kitchen table where he was sitting reading the comics from the paper and munching on Sugar O's.
"Not really. I've been awake ever since Red there came down stairs at 4:30 this morning." A lazy voice came from the couch. Muffled slightly by the way her face was pillowed in to the cushion.
"Good, then move it." Ken told her as he made an attempt to sit down.
"Yeoch!" was the startled yell that came from him moments later as she kicked him in the ass, none to lightly.
"No. I'm a part of the team now. And until I get my own room, I stay right here." she spoke again, never even opening her eyes, much less uncurling from the blanket to give Ken a place to sit.
"Fine. Then you take the morning shift. I doubt Yohji will show for it." Aya responded with out even looking up from the business section.
"Nope. Morning setup, nightly cleanup, and back room work only. Those are my direct orders from Kritiker. In case Schwarz has you boys staked out, can’t risk being seen." she told the others in such a way you could almost hear her smirk.
"And why not?" Ken asked. His temporary light heartedness over having another helping hand being crushed.
"I'm a secret right now. If I stay that way, Oracle will have less of a chance of seeing me in any of his visions. Which makes my success rate even higher." her smugness was blatantly coming through in her tone. Before any of the others could further object though she suddenly blotted straight up, her eyes nearly glowing, and rushed for the back door. Running outside barefooted, in only a sports bra and boxers which she had worn to bed, 9mm. in hand. The others exchanged brief looks of uncertainty as they watched her. All to stunned to even move as she remained outside for several seconds before coming back in with a slam of the door. She caught their stares and quickly draped the nearest coat over herself, it happened to be Yohji’s. She knew they wanted answers, so she gave them the same one that was in her own head.
"He's close."
"Who, Mastermind?" Omi asked her.
"No, the real reason I'm in Japan." she told them as she headed for the stairs to the bedrooms, and the bathroom. "Have the couch Ken. I'll just take your room."

*~*~*

Kaeri stood at the top of the stairs for several minutes before finally deciding that sleep was well beyond her now from the current of unwanted, but partially needed, hate and anger flowing through her that always came when she was any where near that man. Normally in a time like this she would want nothing more then to be alone, but now, now something was different. She had felt Yohji’s words the night before. While most people said they could 'feel' someone else’s words, she honestly could. And in the 10 years of experience she had had, they never felt like they were said. But it wasn't that way with Yohji. Everything lined up, he said what he felt, not afraid of her reaction, or her at all. That was a comforting feeling she thought she had long ago lost. She suddenly realized she wanted it again.
The man in the bed let out a soft groan as she laid down next to him. Irritated to be awoken so early. He had made the assumption in his head that since he didn't get his full day off yesterday, he was entitled to it today. He carefully stretched open one eye and peered at the person who had decided it was okay to invade his space. It was beyond his dreams that it would actually be Aya, for once willing to take him up on the 'pre-work sex' that Yohji tried for every morning. And sure enough, it wasn't him. No, it was in fact the post-junkie assassin from America, with a name that was neither American nor Japanese, and she was wearing his coat.
"That’s my coat."
"So." came the indifferent answer as she stared blankly at the ceiling.
"And you’re NOT my usual bed partner. Unless you want to be, get out and let me sleep." he told her in a huff as he rolled over, hoping she would just leave. She was an empath right, she should be able to tell that he didn't want her here.
"Nope. I don’t want to be alone for once." she said simply, not moving.
"Some empath you are." he growled, sitting up. Realizing his morning was now started and he wanted his nicotine fix.
"I know you want me out, and can feel it too. I just don't care." she told him as she too sat up. Lighting a cigarette of her own and looking right in to his eyes. Which allowed for goose bumps to spread through his whole body. Knowing she could see his eyes and all he might have been trying to hide, while all he could see of her was long bangs and the hint of eyes as void of color as they were of life. Suddenly her lips curved in to a sweet smile, one that seemed out of place on her. Yet still she held on to her mask of indifference.
"Nani?" Yohji lazily asked her while taking another long drag.
"You should really start wearing at least boxers to bed." she told him calmly. Yohji's face heated with a sudden blush and quickly grabbed at the sheet as to cover himself up.
"Yeah, I know, that would deny Aya easy access." she joked lightly with him. He began to nod, before he realized that he hadn't said any of that out loud.
"How did you.." he started before the sight of her smile stopped him. She could, and should have been beautiful, more so then she was. But life had taken that away from her. Something he knew without knowing.
"Just like you can't be a telepath with out having some empath in you, you can't be a empath with out a little telepathy." she told him. Letting the smile fade as she took in his eyes. He was feeling her emotions. Something she had never become strong enough to stop from happening, but hated it all the same. It was the one reason she avoided people like she did. She couldn’t deal with half of her problems, she didn't want others to feel them too.
"Sorry, I'll go." she mumbled as she started to leave. She was shocked when she felt Yohji's hand on her arm, stopping her.
"No, it's okay. I think I get it." he told her, flashing his own trademark grin. "Does that mean you can be taken down by him?" he asked. Not wanting to see her alone right now. Weather that was leaked from her, or just his detectives brain waking up he didn't know.
"No. Thoughts are actually easy to deal with if you already know what a person is feeling. He isn't a threat to me." she told him as she settled back down on to Yohji's bed. Glad that it was large enough for both of them to be comfortable there.
"He, as in Mastermind?"
"Yeah. I guess that’s him."
"I don't get why he's the main target though, is it just cause he'd be the easiest?" Yohji could have kicked himself. He wanted the girl to open up to him, and talking about work probably wasn't going to do the trick.
"No. The members of Schwarz are intertwined in such away that you can’t take out one without scattering the others. And Mastermind is the one holding them together the most." she explained.
"But he's not the leader." well if this was all Yohji could get her to talk about, at least she was talking. Though her smile wasn't returning.
"No, but he's fucking the leader. Kinda like you." she told him, gaining a soft, joking protest, from Yohji. "And due to his powers he keeps Berserker the most under control. And I guess to Prodigy, well, I don't know. I haven’t been able to find out much on him. Hell, what am I saying, on any of them. You know I wasn't even given pictures or told what they look like." she told Yohji, in what seemed to him as almost a complaint.
"I can tell you. Scary." he joked with her. For a split second her smile returned, before fading back to nothing again. She slowly got up and stretched.
"Better get down to the shop." she told him giving him a 'I'm not letting you ditch work' look as she started to leave. As she was by the door, she stopped.
"You know, you’re the first person in a long time I’ve met that’s honest about their feelings. You think I could sleep here, with you. Or will Aya get..." she timidly asked him, without even looking back over to the bed, just staring at the door.
"Yeah, Aya doesn’t like my room anyway, too messy for him. Just no funny business, taking advantage of me in my sleep or anything." he warned her, the mockery dripping from his voice.
"Same to you." she replied as she walked out and closed the door behind her. For the first time in much to long, she was comfortable actually being with a person, the whole person, and not just what was going on inside of them.
