Chapter fourteen- Pleasantries or not
Robin slowly regained her faculties sometime later. She blinked her eyes, as her world became more clear, the fog that she had in her mind was clearing off and the awareness of her surroundings were coming in to focus. She also became aware that her body was in a wee bit of pain as well. She felt the pain, yet it was not too bad as she lay there. What she could not comprehend that she felt like someone was holding her while she laid there. She waited for a second, to see if this was what it seemed... and it was.
Large and muscular arms were wrapped around her, gently squeezing her in a warm embrace against what felt like another person’s body, a body that was way larger than her’s. She did not move a inch, as she had no clue just who was behind her or holding her either.... as her awareness became better
When she had finally gathered herself fully, she came to recognize that these were Amon’s large and powerful arms holding on to her. Her heart jumped in her chest as she realized that they layed on a rather large bed, still fully clothed and on top of the covers.. Yet that did not answer the question of the moment. Why the man was laying with her and holding her like this in the first place. The girl was wondering why, yet she found herself enjoying it too.
After a few moments more, she found one other thing that was not making any sense to her right at this minute. The place she had found herself in, was not the hotel suite that she had fought off a Witch in... or was it the STN-J offices either. Where she was, she had no real clue to.
She looked around her surroundings with just her eyes, and could not have anything she could see from her vantage point that would answer her. The room looked like a small hotel or motel room, not like the suite that she had been carried from after the battle. It was not a lavish room by any stretch of the imagination, but what she could see of it... it was clean looking. She tried to move a bit, and she stopped when she began hearing snoring sounds coming from the man that layed behind her.
As she just layed there, trying to keep herself as still and quiet as possible, but she heard him beginning to stir, and knew her movements had awoken the large man..
“ Amon?” She said in a whisper, tentatively calling his name.
The man answered her by squeezing her in a hug before letting her go and sitting up. He rubbed his eyes, as Robin turned over to look at him.
“ You feel a little better this morning?” He asked, looking at her with a curious tone in his words.
“ I feel exhausted... actually very drained” She began, looking at him right in the face.
“ In any pain or discomfort?”
“ I am in some pain, but not as much as I could remember from last night..” She replied with a soft smile..
The man smiled a extrinsic smile, as he looked at the girl with a sort of lovingness that made Robin blush. She had so any questions flying around her head, but none of the ones wanted to be the first to just come out of her mouth. She just kept silent for a few moments, trying to separate which of her questions she wanted to ask of the man
The man just sat there, looking into the young girl’s face.
“ I am glad that you are better.” He said, in a hesitant voice that held his uncomfortablity at expressing his feelings.
“ May I ask where are we?” Said Robin, her first question coming out with her usual politeness.
“ Where we are is in fact The Dragon Motel, which is near the STN-J office.” Said the man, his face going a little stoic. “ That is where we are right now.”
“ The Dragon Motel?” She asked, puzzled at the man’s explanation. “ I thought you were going to take Nagira and I to the STN Headquarters... that was the last thing I can remember hearing?”
Amon just chuckled heartily at the girl. Robin looked at him with a very puzzled look on her small face.
“ We took the both of you to the Office late yesterday morning.” He said, beginning.
“ I was out for that long?” She sputtered.
“ Nagira is still at the offices resting in one of our spare rooms there... both of you had been checked over by a Doctor that works closely with our organization from time to time. He said that you still unconscious out, but had slipped into a deep sleep from exhaustion... to the point that nothing could have woken you up. He thought you would wake up on your own and be sore, but assured us that you had no lasting injuries he thought.””
“ While I was ...er... out... You moved us then”She asked, stammering a little.
Amon nodded.
“ I moved us because we had to...” He said. “ We needed to find another hiding place while Michael gathers up some information when the autopsies of the two Witches come in and we may have clues to the ones hiring these monsters.” He sighed. “ That is why you find your self in the Dragon Motel.”
Robin nodded, understanding now why she was there, and glad to hear Nagira was better and unhurt, from what she could gather. The why had she woken up in his arms was the next question her heart wanted to have answer, but she felt a little more than hesitant about bringing up that subject and decided to wait for a bit to ask. She just smiled and nodded to Amon, and said not a word.
He got off the bed at that moment and went over to a table nearest the large blinds closed window near the entrance to the room. He lit up a smoke and sat back, turning the tv on with the remote. He seemed look at her from time to time, but Robin was not sure just why he was.
She laid there for awhile more and then sat up and got up off the bed. She felt her legs were feeling quite wobbly and she could still feel a dulling type of pain circulating through her outward extremities, yet she was thankful for feeling much better than she had. She went into the bathroom and closed the door, leaving the man to his cigarette and the silence.
Amon had watched the girl disappear in to the bathroom. He took a deep breath, as she had left the room. He was conflicted inside of himself. He had enjoyed the simpleness of holding her off and on for the hours they had been here for... yet he knew that as her protector, he should not get too close in that way. Many times over the last few days, he just wanted to come out and tell her about his feelings, how he had came to love here like he did.
This was the constant battle within the large Hunter, and he did not know quite how to even express it.
The man just puffed away on his smoke, as he heard the tub water beginning to run. He immediately longed to see the girl’s body again, like he had accidently only days earlier... only this time he wanted to have it happen intentionally. The soft curves and gentle valleys of her soft form abounded through his mind, making him breath heavier. He scolded himself again, he tried to stop himself, but his yearnings were getting to him and he was worried that he may not be able to resist them for much longer.
Picking up his communicator, he put a call in to the headquarters, trying to distract himself from all of these thoughts that were sitting right there, yet his heart was saying another thing all at the same time.
Michael came on the line, but his voice did not hold its usual cheeriness that was his trademark, witch made Amon note it in his mind.
“ Anything to report?” The broad shouldered hunter asked to the lad on the line, foregoing the pleasantries.
“ We have the report on the two dead witches. The both had cell phones back in their respective hotel rooms with the same number on it. We traced it to a receiving tower in the east end of the city... sorry, no info on the who they phoned.”
“ Did you guys phone that number that was in the memory?”
“ It was not working... and the phone company told us that particular number had not been in use in well over three years.” Michael said. “ Somehow that number’s account had been activated a few months ago, yet they were unaware that it was actually working.”
Amon groaned, and closed his eyes. He knew what this all meant.
“ It was a throw away cell with a stolen number... right??” He enquired slowly.
“ Appears to me like it is.” Snuffed the young lad. “ A throw away with no GPS chip in.”
Amon just snuffed, as frustrations were building, and not just with the failures to locate who is trying to contract out a hit on Robin.
“ Do you have anything concrete to actually report on?”
“ Haruto and Karasuma are now implementing a second search warrant on where SOLOMON figured out where these two were staying... they might find a lead.” The whiz kid said. “ I’ll inform you on what they find when I hear.”
“ Tell them to hurry up!” Was the only thing Amon said before he hung up the communicator.
He just put the communicator on the table beside him, and lit another smoke to replace the one he had finished while talking th the youth. He just sat back in the chair he was in and tried not to think on the young girl that was in the tub, or on the situation of the investigation. Both were driving him absolutely frustrated..
He succeeded in stopping the work related thoughts, but could not stop the thoughts on the pretty girl that was at this point, in the hot water of the tub. He did try hard to stop it all, but it kept bouncing into his consciousness despite how he tried. He just spent the next few minutes, sitting there and chastising himself for such lurid thoughts as he went through two more cigarettes in a row.
Over a hour had passed, and the man had just finally got himself to concentrate on a news show he found on the television. He had not heard the water running in a very long time, already knowing her habit of just laying in the water and soaking in steaming hot water for long stretches at a time. He just was trying to stay vacant minded for the time being, as his mind was in a jumble about everything, and about various people. He seemed to succeed, but only in certain ways.
The door of the bathroom opened, and Robin stepped out followed by a plume of steam from the room behind her. She was dressed in a fluffy off white colored robe that the hotel provides, but the robe was almost too big for her sleek and slim form. Her hair was not up in her usual style, as it was wet and hung very straight to frame her face so beautifully. Amon swallowed hard, as this so simple look was equally as captivating as her normal look... and caused his heart to flutter wildly.
Robin had came out of the bathroom, and noticed the man was looking at her... actually he was staring at her. She wondered why he was watching at her, but his eyes were holding something inside of them that she could not place. She felt just a little nervous standing there clad in just the robe, but it also was painted with another, more surprising feeling... She felt excited.
The man stood up and strode over to where the girl stood, not once saying anything at all. She found herself transfixed to the spot, her mind trying to get a handle on just what the man may be doing. Her heart started to beat faster, as she watched so dumbfounded as the long maned man approached her.
Amon stopped directly in front of Robin, his dark and deep eyes locked onto hers so deeply that it made her shiver. She tried to look away, but she could not avert her eyes away, as his eyes were so deeply captivating, catching her both inside and out.
He finally was standing face to face. They stood in silence, each holding the other’s eyes fast with theirs. Not one movement did either of them make for the longest time, even their breathing had seemed to stop.
The man moved first and lifted his hands slowly, never once unlocking his stare. He cupped Robin’s rounded face in his large hands with a gentleness that belied his huge stature. The girl did not fight or move one single muscle, but she stood there while her legs began to feel weak with the brush of his touch. He leaned his head down to the much shorter girl, his lips suddenly came together with hers.
The kiss was deep and passionate, surprising the inexperienced Robin. She felt the sensation that she was melting on the inside, and her legs became more wobbly. Instinctively, her arms rose up and wrapped around his neck as far as she could reach up. He released her face and wrapped his large arms around the thin but muscular form of the girl, drawing her in to his chest with amazing gentleness yet was firm.
After kissing for a fairly lengthy time, passionately standing there... the man suddenly let her go like he had been scalded by hot water. He took a step back with a wide eyed look, both seemed to be breathing rapidly while their eyes continued to be locked on one another for a brief few moments more
He suddenly turned and grabbed his coat that was draped over the foot of the bed. He walked away with a quickened step without looking back at the girl.
“ I need to step out for a while.” He murmured quickly, as he quickly stepped out of the door of the room and was gone that fast.
Robin stood in dismay, not understanding why the man had just kissed her or the fact that he had suddenly turned and just left moments after that kiss. She watched the door close, could not say one word as he just left. She stared at the door feeling the silence of the room come crashing down on her.
“ What did I do? Did I Kiss him wrong, was I suppose to kiss him?”Her mind rolled around, unsure that she had did anything wrong.
The girl in the robe felt her heart sink, as the realization of Amon walking out on her like that hit. She felt waves of different emotions build in her, some more personal that she had ever had. The kiss, him leaving so abruptly, was all just swirling around, making no sense to her whatsoever, her heart sank
The girl raced over to the bed and flung herself on to the bed she exploded into tears.
“ What ever I did, it made him leave...” She thought to herself, the not understanding driving her tears.
Curling herself up into a ball on the bed, tears flowed down her face to wet the pillow under her head. They were sad filled rivers she could not stop from coming, as she felt so low.
She waited for the man to come back, wanting to apologize for what ever it had been that she had done to offend him and to promise never to do whatever that was again. Was her kissing him bad? Did he just do that for some unexplained reason? Did he even like her, did he find out that she had fallen in love with him, and he did not like that. She was worried that he was not coming back, that was her biggest fear.
She curled her body into a tighter ball, holding her knees to her chest, as she shook with the tears that came flooding out of her. She did not care at that point about who was out to kill her, or who was being sent next to do just that. Amon was there from the very beginning, and she just wanted him to be there with her through this. She told herself that she could change the way she felt to make sure he was there. If that was what it took..
In the stillness of the room, a young girls heart could be heard breaking, even before it could be shown.
