Chapter Thirteen- In the Crosshairs

The heat had awoken the young hunter girl again, just past four thirty in the morning. Unable to sleep anymore, She layed there for awhile, hoping that slumber would come without the strange dreams that had been with her all that night.

After a long time, just laying there with her eyes closed, she realized that sleep was not going to come soon again. She sat up and looked around her room. She decided to just throw on her clothes and see whether or not Amon had returned to the hotel. She was hoping that the man was there, for she felt safer when he was near.

She came out of the room into the main room of the suite. Amon was not there, but sitting at the table reading a newspaper and sipping a tall cold bottle of beer was Nagira. Robin smiled, as she was glad to see the man, but still just wanted Amon to be there.

The slick back haired man looked around the paper her was reading, and saw the girl there. He made a noise as he looked at her
“ Little Robin... ” He said with a friendly smile. “ I thought you would still be asleep?”
“ I woke up again... its too hot to sleep.” She said, her eyes droopy a little as she made her way over to the man.

She hugged the man tightly, smelling the strong odor of his cheap cologne which was actually pleasant to her. The man hugged her back, chuckling with mirth as he showed that he missed her with just that reaction. The girl took a seat on the chair across from the man, as she looked out of the window at the veil of darkness that hung over the sky. That was a reality of her not sleeping much for most of the night.

Nagira looked at the young girl.
“ If your hot, I think I saw some cold lemonade that was in the courtesy bar when I got my beer from there.” He informed, as he lit a smoke. “ That might take away some of the heat, and may let you go back to dreamsville.”
“ That would be nice...” She said, frustrated with the fact that she only slept a few short hours

The girl smiled and went over to the little refrigerator in the corner, as the thought of having a tall glass of a cold drink would hit the spot. She was hoping that would relieve her little heat problem, so she could go back to bed and try to get some sleep before Amon arrived back here..

The two sat silently together. Nagira continued reading the paper, stopping only to take a drag of his smoke or swig his beer. Robin busied herself watching a old movie on television while she was enjoying the cool drink she had gotten herself.
Some time later, Nagira looked up from his paper with a quick turn. He had heard a odd sound coming from just outside of the suite door. He looked over at the door for a moment, waiting for it to come again, as he had not recognized the sound as anything he knew of.. He strained to listen a little harder, but Nagira heard nothing. In his mind he debated whether or not he should go and make sure that things were clear in the hallway, bit convinced himself that it was probably the early morning cleaning crews or other hotel workers out there.

He turned his head back to his newspaper, assured that the noise was probably nothing out of the ordinary for the hotel. He went back to reading some diatribe in the editorial section of the paper about new local taxes that Tokyo council was going to implement.

The door suddenly exploded into the room, completely splintering into thousands of pieces that rained into the area. Nagira was immediately on his feet, the ORBO gun his brother had given him before he had went to meet up with the others from the STN-J in his hand as he stood next to the young girl. Robin had leaped to her feet, her eyes searching for whatever had made the door explode inwards like that.

A ragged dark haired man in his early to mid- twenties stood there glaring at them as a silvery glow pulsated around his body. The man stood hunched over a little, which made him look like quite an imposing man. He seemed to be looking around the room through the low light as his glow that enveloped him seemed become brighter with every moment..

This obvious Witch stepped in to the carpet of wood shards in the suite, his eyes glowing in a deep red color as he scanned the room. When his eyes fell upon the two that were in the room, a smirk crossed his face.
“ The Crafter girl...” He said, looking at Robin.” At last!!”

The tall lawyer took a step forward towards the man, his body ready to react at a moment’s notice.
“ Who are you?” Nagira said, aiming his weapon at the man as Robin stood transfixed.
“ Who am I.... I am that little bitch’s death!!!” The young man said, smirking with macabre victory.

The glow around the Witch suddenly flashed before it jumped off his body and flew across the room faster than anything . The light quickly encircled the both Nagira and Robin, then came a sudden burning sensation of pain that came for the two in the room.

Nagira let out a sound of pain, as his body shook and bucked with the feeling. He tried to fire his weapon off, but he found that he could not even move his body other than to twitch as the pain seared right through him. The tall lawyer screamed out in pain as the light around him intensified, but that was all he seemed able to. He continued to struggle to force his own finger to squeeze the trigger on his weapon, but the paralysis that had came with this witchery made that impossible.

Robin felt her own body now griped with such excruciating pain, almost as if there was a megawatt of electricity trying to get out of her body. She felt every part of herself vibrate and spasm, every time a muscle in her body jumped... it brought such agony that she nearly passed out from it.

The girl tried desperately to concentrate on the intruder to use her power, but the pain that battered her from the inside made that impossible. She tried to move to escape, and found that she could not move from the spot either, the only thing she could do was let out a strangled cry of pain. She found herself starting to losing consciousness, as the pain was excruciating and seemed to increase with each second.

The Witch stood there watching his handiwork, giving a chilling smile of satisfaction as he seemed to pour on his will, and intensify his power. He was clearly out to finish his fiendish work.
“ Do not struggle because it is useless... I assure you that both of you will die quickly..” He sneered, overjoyed with his work. “ This will take very little time, and I want to savor the moment that I see you both die.”

Nagira could see that Robin was about to collapse, the girl’s cries of pain were overshadowing even his own pain cries. He closed his eyes and pushed his pain wracked body to the limits as he strained against the paralyzing effects of the Witch’s power. He already knew that he had to do something, and that kept himself fighting it with every ounce of willpower he could muster up.

Willing himself to move, Nagira finally succeeded in moving himself over step to end up right in front of the girl with a superhuman effort on his part. He shook and cried out as the pain suddenly became overpowering, as he had put himself between the witch and Robin... and taking the ful’ brunt of the power Through the pain, he knew that it would be a small price to pay to try and protect the young girl as he had promised to Amon.

With her friend in blocking the Witch’s attack, Robin could instantly feel that the pain had started to ease and that brought her strength back somewhat. The girl already knew that the man was going to sacrifice himself to save her and give her a chance to defeat him. She said a prayer of thanks for her friend’s effort, and moved quickly to pluck her glasses from her dress pocket, her determination now was set... she needed to stop the this witch at any cost..

Now able to move, Robin stepped to one side and out from behind her friend that was in total agony, and her eyes fell on to the Witch. Flames flickered in her eyes, seeing that the man had not seen her move just yet, and she smiled. The Witch suddenly burst into a form of fire, as the girl did what she had to do

The Witch screamed, as the scorching fire seemed to touch his very soul as he stumbled backwards. With the young girl’s fire all around the Witch, his power suddenly let go... and without the power’s hold, Nagira was freed. The tall man seemed to simply slump to the floor, and fell into a unmoving heap, but young Robin kept her focus on the Witch..
The witch never went down, even with the flames lapping at him... he shot another blast right at Robin. The power hit her again, and her whole body jerked as it encased her once again. Robin had somehow kept herself on her feet, despite the pain that was going right through her. Stoically, she made herself focus through the return of the pain with every ounce of willpower she possessed in her body. Eyes leveled at the attacker, she made the flames around the witch grow brighter and the heat intensified..

The witch screamed and stutter stepped around the room, as the fire flared around him. Robin watched in horror as the Witch spun around suddenly, obviously going for one last attack on them both. The tawny haired girl braced herself, as she felt her willpower and strength starting to falter with the pain becoming almost intolerable. One more attack from this monster of a Witch, she did not know if she could survive another blast. She knew that if she had to die, she would die fighting for Nagira’s life.

The sounds of running feet come thundering into the room and then three gun shots rang out. The Witch stiffened, stopping dead in his tracks. He groaned loudly as he turned to face in the direction where the shots came from. With her last ounce of strength, Robin pushed herself to attack while his concentration was elsewhere.

With the Witch turned to face who ever it was, he had made a critical error. There was such an intense explosion of flame and heat around the man, the form stiffened then seemed to just vanish on the spot. The ball of flames quickly died off, and where the Witch had been standing, there was a just a blackened skeleton of bones left... the muscle and soft tissue was completely gone from the body as the smell of the burned away flesh filled the room

Robin collapsed to her knees, as she saw that the witch was done. She glanced up and could see both Amon and Karasuma were behind the fallen witch with there guns drawn and smoking in the dim light of the room. She felt herself let out a long exhale, as the realization that they all had succeeded in stopped the Witch.
“ Amon...” She whispered, as she tried to struggle to stand while looking at the broad shouldered man..

Amon raced over to the girl’s side, and made her stay down on her knees. The girl tried to resist the man’s physically urging for her to stay down, but she found her body was far too exhausted to argue. She looked up into the man’s face, as she felt her body now was vibrating throw every limb.
“ You just have to stay down....” Amon whispered in a uncharacteristically soft voice. “ It’s over... for now.”
“ Nagira is alive..” Shouted out Karasuma, who had raced to the lawyer’s aid while Amon tended to the young Craft user.
“ He is?” Amon said half relieved and half surprised.
“ The ORBO in the gun ammo you left him must have protected him a little from the witch’s power.” She said “ I don’t know if that is possible... but that is what I think....”
“ I have not heard that could actually happen...” Amon said, letting himself smile a little. “ If that was not what happened, he’s one lucky son of a bitch.”
“ What ever it is, that fact that he is alive.” Commented back Miho, kneeling beside Nagira.

Amon’s half brother suddenly opened his eyes and turned his head and looked at everyone with a confused look.
“ .The witch?” He asked, his voice shallow and labored, but becoming a little stronger with each word.
“ He’s dead, Nagira..” Karasuma said.
“ R... Robin?” He asked., his face showing a flood of concern. “ Is Robin alright?”

On hearing the man’s voice, Robin slid on her knees over to the fallen man. At his side now, she peered down at him and flashed a smile to the man.
“ I am alive, thanks to you...” She said, her face showing the extent of her fatigue.
“ I did what I had to, kid. Nothing more.” Smiled the man, his voice seeming to get a little stronger
“ And that is what I am grateful for...” She said back.

Robin felt her body started to wildly tingling with rolling pain, an after effect from her ordeal. She looked up at the Amon beside her and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him to herself with the remainder of her strength. The man smiled, and let himself embrace her back as he felt a wave of relief flow over him. Amon was glad to realize that the small hunter was going to be alright. He did not shy back from the hug that was latched on to him from Robin, but he seemed to relish in it.

Amon picked the petite girl up in his arms effortlessly and then rose to his feet. He looked over and saw that Nagira had struggled up to his feet, but still had to be steadied by Karasuma propping the taller man with a little bit of effort.
“ We need to get to another hiding place now... this place is not safe any longer.” Amon said, carrying the girl like she was no more than a leaf. “ We will have our stuff sent to us later, somehow.”
“ You are expecting more assassins?” Asked Robin weakly, looking up into the man’s eyes.
“ I am expecting anything at this point... until we can figure out who is wanting you to die. He said, still sounding so soothing. “ Finding another safe place to stay will give all of us some more time.
“ Where will you go then?” Asked Karasuma, as she acted like a crutch to the fast recovering Nagira. “ The second Witch is still out there on the loose... and will be after Robin after some time.”
“ Stating the obvious is what you do... but you are quite right.” Said Amon, his face showing the strain.

As they began to leave the room, Amon seemed to ponder what to do next as he carried the girl in his arms. He looked over at Miho and gave a little nod of his head.
“ First of all...We should head back to headquarters first.... then we can figure that crap out later once we are safe.” Said the tall man, carrying the girl out with almost no effort at all. “ The Chief might have a few more suggestions as well.
“ That might be the best thing to do...” Karasuma agreed. “ I have already called Michael to have body pick-up for this one.”
“ Good thinking.” Was all Amon said. “ We don’t have to wait around.”

In the tall man’s arms, Robin whole body seemed to slump all at once, her head lolling over until it fell to rest on his massive shoulder. Letting out a small groan and then a sigh Robin seemed to simply go out, her eyes had fluttered closed as she went totally limp to hang in Amon’s arms. The girl seemed to have lost consciousness, and that brought a little concern into the tall man’s eyes.
“ Call ahead to Michael... have that doctor that works with us there when we arrive...” Amon said, starting to move for the door. “ Both of them should be checked over thoroughly
“ I am on it...” Karasuma said, propping Nagira up with one hand, using the communicator with the other as they made there way out of the room.

The four hunters left the hotel suite, and headed to the elevators. Three SOLOMON men came out of the elevator and pushed passed the group and went directly into the Hotel room. Amon and his group never stopped, getting into the elevator and starting their ride down to the lobby

The SOLOMON men all looked at one another with shock and surprise, ans toped the moment they entered the room. The three men had only found that there was only a pile of charred bone laying on the floor with a black charred area around where it lay.

The three eyed the remains for a very long time, each one seemed to be horrified at the outcome of what happened here
“ Looks like those hunters went through a war here.” Said one of the SOLOMON men, through his protective suit helmet.
“ Judging from the state of this Witch... it was a war.” Flatly commented another man.
“ I have never seen such a thing...” Said the last man, looking at what was a witch only a few scant moments ago.
“ Their hunters...” Said the first man, bluntly. “ They do, what we would be afraid of doing.”

With a simple nod while going stone silent, the group set to work collecting what little that was remaining of the Witch. Nothing else could have been said, simply got down to work for what they had came to do.
