Chapter Twelve- Blinded by lies
Tokyo was not all asleep in the oppressive heat of the night. Even though it was just coming up to nearly three in the morning, the city seemed to be so alive in a way that the people of the daytime would never have understood, or cared to know about. The seedy underbelly of Tokyo’s populous was alive.Amon stopped his car out in front of a two story building on the fringes of the city’s center warehouse section. The man seemed to be a little bewildered as he stepped from his vehicle, just as Karasuma was getting out of the car that she had parked directly behind the tall man’s.
The lady hunter moved to stand beside the tall man as Haruto arrived on his bike.
“ This is the place that the listing for that company was from?” Asked Amon, looking at his comrade.
“ This is was the place Michael told us to go to follow up on the money trail.” She said, looking at her notes in her small notepad. “ The money that was given to the Witch came from the shell business, but the link he found was for a company that was suppose to have an office at this address.”
“ Looks deserted....” Said Haruto, joining them. “ judging from things here, long deserted.”
“ Looks can be deceiving... we have to check still.” Said Amon, looking at his companions.
Amon moved closer, noting that every window and door was boarded up tight. The one story building looked like it had been boarded up for quite a few years, and had no outward sign of anyone eve being here for all that time.
“ Let’s do a full sweep around the place. Check all doors windows and any place els that someone could get in here by” Amon commanded. “ As you do that, keep in contact at all times.”
“ Ok!” The two said, breaking off and doing what Amon had told them to do.
For the better part of an hour, the three went around the building a few times. The all noted that every door in was locked up tight and each seemed to have an advanced state of rust on them all. That told the straight facts were no one had been inside for perhaps years. That was proof that this company was not being run here.
Amon looked around the desolate street as he exited the alley that went around the building, and saw not a soul around. He just shrugged his shoulders and looked at his team as they joined him on the street.
“ I found less than nothing... the place seemed to have been locked up tight for years.” Said Karasuma, telling what she had found.
“ It appears that this might be another phony address.” The tall man said, looking around. “ There is not a business headquarters here, or anything else for that matter.... just another shell in this game they are playing.”
“ A wild goose chase would be more fun.” Haruto said, snuffing with frustration as she looked around. “ Do you think that Michael got a bum steer?”
“ Michael’s information was wrong perhaps?” Speculated Karasuma.
“ Anything is possible.” Amon said, looking at the brown haired woman. “ But he usually is not wrong about anything like this... especially when he ha taken such great care to dig into it all, before telling us.”
“ I think these people that payed the witches simply had falsified all of the information to keep from being found.” Karasuma suggested.
“ Even our esteemed computer whiz can have that happen to him.” The long maned man said.
The three stood there for a moment or two, contemplating the emptiness of the street. Amon turned to his partners, his face stoically looking at them.
“ There is nothing here.” He said, beginning to walk back to his friends side. “ We should go back to the office, and regroup with Michael’s help and...”
The darkness of the night suddenly became bright from above, illuminating the street almost as if it was the daytime. All three hunters looked up, surprised by the sudden light that fell on them. A bright ball of light hovered over them, containing garbage and thrown away office furniture in it’s light. It hung over them, like a mystic sword, waiting to drop and smite them. They were awestruck at the sight that hovered right over them all.
Amon mind suddenly grasped just what was happening with in a split second. Clearly there was a witch in the area, and they had been ambushed.
“ Scatter!!!” He yelled, as the glow began to crush the objects it held, and the pieces suddenly were dropped by the unseen power.
The three hunters dove in different directions to get out from under the falling debris. Amon and Karasuma bolted to one side, Haruto chose to make a flying leap backwards, as the large amount of junk rained out of the sky.
Haruto could not get out of the way fast enough, as the trash slammed down on him with a loud thunder of noise. The lad disappeared under the many tonnes of disgarded refuse, quickly he was buried him in the mountain of waste.
“ Haruto!!” Called out Karasuma, watching the pile of junk cover where the lad had been...It was too late by that time, as the debris had covered the younger lad..
Amon came up from his roll, and his eyes searched and found two figures standing nearby, as if they had just appeared out of thin air. One was tall and well dressed, the other shorter and younger with more modern street type of clothing. He could not see who the witch was, but he knew of their intentions on this early morning. He could see another person was with the witch, but it was kind of odd that this man was not using a craft... but was holding a gun instead. This made Amon wonder.
Amon smoothly brought out his weapon to bare, as the witch was using his powers again to lift more garbage from the surroundings street areas.
“ Stop right there, witch!” He yelled.
“ I want the little witch!!” Yelled out the man in a heavily accented voice, as he smiled with a very unnerving smirk. “ Don’t you understand, my good man...She has a date with her death!”
The man suddenly had his power crush what he was lifting, compacting it into one solid mass that hung only a few feet off of the ground. With a simple flicking motion of his hand, the crushed mass of waste was propelled through the air right at Amon with lightning speed. The dark haired hunter spared no time and jumped once again deftly aside, having the attack fly past him and slamm into there side of a old building right behind him. He landed on one knee, his weapon at the ready and he took two shots.
The first bullet hit the taller witch, knocking him off of his feet with a low grunt of pain. The second shot Amon got off put down the one with the gun. Amon stayed in his bent stance, waiting to see if they were going to get up from his shots.
The witch was quick to get back to his feet, his eyes showed the rage of a man out of control. The witch pointed to some garbage cans and they began to rise into the air, but Karasuma had also gotten to her feet and had let loose a volley of shots from where she had ended up.
The witch gasped and his body jerked, as each ORBO bullet found its mark and the man fell back again. This time, the man did not move an inch, blood poring out of the bullet wounds on his back to pool on the street. The smaller man that had been with the Witch was still down, and had not moved since getting shot. Guardedly, the hunters looked over at the people that had attacked them, and it seemed those men were now neutralized.
With the attack stopped, Amon raced over to the junk pile which had buried Haruto. With his large hands, he started to try and dig down to the lad that was trapped. He seemed intent on freeing the youth any way he could. Karasuma joined him, using her hands like Amon was in an attempt to save their fallen friend.
“ Dig!” Amon called out loudly, urging Karasuma and even himself, to pull what they could off of the lad.
From the far side of the pile, the young lad suddenly appeared. He was slowly pulling himself from under the pile of junk and trash, coughing like mad. Haruto looked bloodied and battered, but thankfully, he looked like he was not seriously injured.
“ You alright?” Asked the hunter lady, as she held out a hand to stabilize the lad as he stepped out..
“ I feel like every part of me is hooked up to a battery, and the juice is turned on high...” He said, stumbling a little as Karasuma helped extract him from the pile.
“ Do you need a ambulance?” She asked, as Amon joined in steading the young man.
“ I don’t seem to have anything broken or anything... just a electric feeling that shoots through me at the moment...” Said the lad, coughing and sputtering. “ I think I can pass on that.”
Amon nodded, as his communicator went off. He answered it, and the picture of the computer whiz came on the small veiwscreen.
“ I have the updated picture of Hrato Yokohama.” He said.
“ A little late on that, Michael...We have just neutralize both witches at this location you sent us to.” Said Amon.
The veiwscreen suddenly was of the witch in question in all of it’s glory. Amon gasped, which made the others turn and look. The picture was of neither of the two that they had just taken down.
“ Michael..” Amon said, his face blank as he stared at the picture on the little screen. “ That is a picture of neither of the ones we have taken down.”
“ You sure?”
“ Yes, I am...” Amon said, his face showing shock. “ I have the updated picture of Yokohama you sent... and Kall’s to... neither of the people she shot are them.
“ That is a problem then...” The lad said. “ A big one...”
Using the camera on the communicator, Amon took a picture of the second man, and sent it to the whiz kid.
“ Find out who this is then” He ordered, noting that he should have thought of this, because the shorter man had a gun, something a witch would not use.
A second later, the lad was back on.
“ Through the records of the STN that are linked to the police data banks, the picture you sent was of a petty crook.”
“ A petty crook?” Said Amon, surprised to hear it.
“ Yeah! He is Kono Iashti, who has ties to both the underworld and to the witch known as Haru Kall.” Said the lad. “ It seems he’s been involved with Kull a few times before his disappearing act.”
“ Then where the fuck is Yokohama or Kall?” Said Amon, a tightness in his voice.
“ Damned if I know...” The young whiz kid said.
Amon’s eye suddenly became wild and large, and he seemed to grunt loudly. Something had came to him, and now had unnerved him. He turned and started to sprint to his car, not say one word to the why he was.
The others looked at the man running, and seemed to be at a loss to explain the man’s action.
“ What is...” Called out Karasuma.
“ Both men are not the Witches after Robin!!.” He yelled back as he reached his car.
“ Amon...What does that mean?” The woman called out, as she took a few steps towards the man.
“ It means that we all have been literally tricked into coming all the way out here!!” He said, flinging the car door open.
Miho and the lad looked at one another, while the man had already jumped into his car and was off in a cloud of dust. The two left in the street looked at one another, as they tried to figure out what the man had meant.
“ Tricked?” Asked the younger hunter.
“ Was this all just a ploy to get us out here?” Miho said, talking to herself to figure things out.
“ But why?” The youth asked.
The two then seemed to gasp at the same time. It quickly started to dawn on both Karasuma and Haruto to the reason why the Amon had ran off like that. The looked at one another in stunned silence.
“ Robin!!” Both of them said.
“ It was a set up!” Haruto gulped, his mind had grasped what he thought was going on.
“ A set up to get Amon and Robin separated from one another...” Said Miho, her face was a white as a sheet. “ The witches are going to kill Robin at the hotel.”
Karasuma turned and hurried back to where he car was parked In a flash, the girl’s drove off and in a matter of moments started to follow the speeding Amon.
Haruto just waited for the SOLOMON people to get the bodies. He knew that he needed to, and hoped the others will get to Robin, before the unknown witch called Hrato Yokohama would get to the young crafter.
