Chapter Ten

Karasuma enters Robin and Amon’s apartment late in the evening, her senses on edge. She looks at the jimmied door as she passes through, and snuffs as that was the first telltale sign of something being not right.

She had been told by Michael that Robin never showed for her appointment that afternoon, and the Chief had just blown it off so gracefully. This was a red flag for the hunter woman, as the chief would have gone up one side of her and down another if she would have done it.

She sees nothing out of the ordinary in the front room, and heads to the bedroom. She has a funny feeling about all of this.

In the bedroom, the young woman gasps as she sees bullet holes that are in the wall and the bed. The room was in total shambles, as clothing and personal effects were tossed around as if someone was looking for something. She notices there is no blood at the scene, which makes her relieved to a degree but the absence of Robin, still concerns her more.

She flicks on her communicator.
“ Michael.” She calls out into the device, as her eyes scan the room over and over
“ Right here...” The youth’s voice says. “ Are you in Robin and Amon’s home?”
“ The place has had a jimmied front door, the place is a mess, there is bullet holes in the bedroom and no sign of Robin.” She reports grimly.

The line went dead for a second, other than a small gasp that could be heard.
“ Bullet holes?” He finally said.
“ The wall and bed in the bedroom is riddled with them.” She said, staring at the telltale holes.
“ What else?”
“ The place looks like it has been tossed, as if someone was looking for something.” Reported the hunter woman. “ The good thing is that there is no signs of blood, just some heavy charring marks on the carpet.”
“ So Robin put up a fight?” Michael said, his voice tightening.
“ Looks like it.” Miho said, looking down at the carped, noting how big the damage was.

Miho waited, as she could here the lad tapping away on his computer furiously over the communicator.
“ I am looking in the police data banks here... No report of shots fired there.” Michael informed the woman.

Miho paused for a moment. She could not grasp just what might have happened here yet, and why it had happened. She pondered it for a second or two, as she looked around at the place. The explanation of it was speculative, at best.
“ You checking all hospital records too, for any signs of Robin?” Thought the woman out loud.
“ I started that when you said there were bullet holes.” The lad flatly said. “ There is no record of her at any hospital in the city.”
“ Do you think there is a link between that man from SOLOMON, this thing here?” Questioned the woman.

The hacker youth did not reply right off, his silence was odd.
“ Guess it could..” He speculated dryly, his mind obviously working overtime on everything. “ Don’t we get notified if SOLOMON is doing there own operation?”
“ That is what I am thinking. They usually do, but not always.” Karasuma agreed. Suddenly, something popped into the woman’s head “ Do you know anything about this man from headquarters?”
“ I tried to get some information on him, but the security is so tremendous, I cant get anything other than his name.” He said, then adding. “ Yoshi Tanji. He seems to be a very high ranking person in the SOLOMON hierarchy”
“ Great!” Miho spat. “ We have nothing.”
“ Looks like it, Miss Karasuma.” The lad agreed. “ So, Miss Karasuma...what next?”

The lad just was silent on the other end.
“ Just keep an eye on any report that does pop up, I’m going to come back to the office in a little while.” Planned the lady.
“ Your going to have a little talk with our esteemed leader?” Questioned the youth.
“ Right after I go and have a talk with Touko downstairs.” The woman said with confidence wrapping her words. “ She may have some information, since she does live right below Robin and Amon.” Miho just turned to exit the bedroom. “ Keep this between ourselves for the time being, ok?”
“ My lips our sealed.” Assured the young man.
“ Thanks.” Miho said, turning off her device.

The woman exited the room, after looking it over one more time. She hurried from the apartment and headed down to the floor below. What ever has happened to Robin, she hoped that Touko would have at least a few answers for her growing list of questions. Other than that, she had nothing.

When Touko opened the door, and saw the brown haired hunter on the other side, she gasped loudly. The odd reaction made by the dark haired woman, told Miho that this woman did know something right off the bat.
“ Miho.” The lady of the apartment said, her voice showing signs of stress.
“ Can I come in?” Asked the hunter woman politely.
The woman hesitated a little, but stepped to the side to let Miho in. The hunter did so, striding in like a woman on a mission.

Miho did not waste any time.
“ I would explain why I am here, but I see that you know.” She said very bluntly.

Touko did not answer the woman, but just stood there staring. Miho stepped towards the woman, she was not in any mood for using kid gloves.
“ What happened up in Robin’s apartment?” She asked.

A puzzled look flooded the dark haired woman’s face, almost disbelief. Miho looked at the woman, curious. She was not expecting the reaction that Touko was giving her.
“ Well?” She asked.
“ Your not hunting Robin?” She asked, shakily.
“ No, we are not...” The hunter woman said, seeing that she knew a lot more than she first had expected. “ C’mon, out with it all.”

Touko just searched the woman’s face, seeing if what Miho was saying was true. She moved to a nearby chair and rook a seat, her body shaking visibly. The hunter stepped near again, her eyes never moving off of the lady.
“ We need to know what happened up in Amon and Robin’s apartment right now...” She said, pushing the lady to speak. “ I can see it in your face, you know something about, so just tell us so we can do what we have to.”

Touko just looked up at the woman that stood in front of her. She seemed to be deciding on something. With a sigh, the woman told her about how Robin jumped into the back of her car naked, her hurriedness at getting away and the area of town where she had dropped the young hunter in. She then told of snooping in the apartment, and seeing the gravity of what had happened upstairs. She told everything, hardly stopping to take a breath.

Miho stood and listened in silence, each word burying itself in her memory.
“ Why did you not come to us and tell us what had happened?” She asked.
“ Robin thought that she was being hunted, and made me promise not to say a word.” She explained. “ She thought that it would be safer that way for her, and me.”
“ Did you think we were the ones hunting her and Amon?”
“ Robin did not really say who was hunting her...” Began the woman. “ But I had a feeling that it had crossed her mind.”

The brown haired hunter just lowered her head. It would have crossed Robin’s mind that they were responsible for the hunt on her. The woman tool a deep breath.
“ We are not the one’s hunting her.” Said Miho to Touko, in a assuring tone. “ But someone is, by the looks of it.”
“ Do you know who?” Questioned the lady.
“ That is what we am going to find out.” Miho sighed. “ I also would like to find out just where Robin and Amon are.” She paused for a second. “ Would you know where Robin is, or if she is with Amon?”

Touko shook her head.
“ I dropped her off in front of a old electrical store at the address I gave you...” She said. “ All I can tell you is that she had a piece of paper clutched in her hand as she exited the car, then she vanished into the crowd.” Touko bowed her head. “ That was the last time I saw or heard from her.”

Frustrated at the limited information that even the woman had, she just thanked the woman. Grilling her would probably not dig up anything else
“ We will take it from here then.” She said. “ You don’t tell anyone anything for now.”
“ I won’t.” Touko said, nodding to accent her words. “ Can I help in any way?”

Miho just thought for a moment. She was going to tell the lady now, but she had the starting of an idea.
“ Not at the moment...” She said with a sigh again, as her mind was working on something. “ I will get back to you, when I need to.

Relived, Touko seemed to relax.
“ I will do anything to help you, just say the word.” Promised the young business woman.
“ I am going to have to count on that.” Said Miho, smiling.

She thanked the woman again, then left the apartment without another word. She headed down to ground level with quickened steps. Whatever she had to do, including talking to her superior, she was going to do. Robin and Amon’s lives depending on it
