Chapter Two
Harry’s was pretty much empty in the early evening time, when Amon arrived there. He looked around the place and headed straight for the bar, not wasting any time on the empty establishment.Kobari Yuji, owner of Harry’s, was standing behind the bar when the tall hunter sat down at his usual spot. The owner had been putting out fresh glasses when he saw the man enter, and he smiled.
“ Good Afternoon, Amon.” He said with cheerfulness. “ What will it be today, for you?”
“ A double whisky.” He said.
The barkeep quickly got the man his order, and set it in front of him. The thin bartender looked at his customers face, and saw something a little different in it.
“ You seem a little on edge.” The man commented, looking at the man. “ And you seem to be alone today too.” The man was a watchful person by character. “ Where is Miss Robin?”
Amon looked at the man, not too surprised that he would ask something like that.
“ She is working right now on a case out of town.” He said, downing half of his drink.
“ Should you not be with her?” Yuji asked, questioning the man carefully. “ Are you not her partner?”
“ She is paired with Karasuma on this one...” Amon replied. “ There is a case in a Girl’s school out of town, and headquarters was told it was best to send just the girl’s in.”
“ You must be worried then, Amon...” Yuji asked. “ Seeing the one you love having to go off like that.”
Amon stared at the man, shocked that he knew about Robin and himself. He looked into the bar-owner’s eyes, as his brain was deciding on just how the man had knew all of this.
“ You look surprised that I know about your relationship with Robin has become more than working.” The man smiled.
“ I am curious to figure that out...” Replied the long haired man, regarding the man wit a small grin of disbelief. Amon then nodded, as the answer came to him “ When did Robin tell you?”
The man just chuckled and shook his head at the Hunter.
“ She has not told me anything about your relationship with her, Mr. Amon.” The owner said, with a small smile. “ Quite the contrary. I can assure you, not one word has pass between Robin and I on this.”
“ Then... how did you figure it out then, Master?” Questioned the man, leaning on his elbows on the counter top.
Yuji chuckled low, much to Amon’s surprise.
“ I have watched you two come in her for the last few weeks... and by the looks in your faces when you talk together, it is just obvious that something was going on.” The man gave Amon a smile. “ I was in love like that with my late wife.. So I have a sort of radar to pick it up.” He give a low chuckle, his mind seemed to be drifting off into thoughts that were pleasant to him. “ It just warms my heart to see something like that... as if my wife was still here with me.”
Amon nodded his head, realizing the man’s knowledge of this all was due to experience. Amon soon went silent, not wanting to talk about it any more. He just nodded and down the second half of his drink and sighed deeply as he fell into thinking about the deep golden haired young girl.
Amon pointed to his glass and just stayed sitting quietly at his spot. His feelings were his alone, other than when he was with Robin. He just let his mind wander to the night before, the deep feelings he had washing over him, giving him a sense that she was not too terribly far from him.
The barkeep just fell silent, knowing when to be quiet. After knowing the tall hunter for this long as he had, it was a smart thing to do. Being that he was once just like Amon, not one to show his feelings outwardly, he knew that the man was not wanting to talk about it any longer. With his most hospitable smile, Yuji just refreshed Amon’s drink and headed off to do more work somewhere off to the side.
For about a hour, Amon sat silently. He had not said a single word to Yuji, opting to just to drink a little. He had to admit something to himself... he was missing Robin to the point of distraction. Even though his brain was telling him that he would see her soon, he found himself not quite knowing what to do with himself. He knew that with Karasuma, she would be backed up by someone who had been a hunter for quite some time.
A familiar voice made him turn from his drink. When he did, Amon found Touko standing there.
“ Having a drink or two, I see....” She said with a smile.
“ Yes.” He said, surprised to see the woman in Harry’s.
The woman took a stool beside the man and ordered herself a white wine, which was her usual drink.
“I hope you don’t mind me joining you like this.” She said. “ With Hiro out of town on business until late tomorrow or the next day, I am finding myself not quite knowing what to do with myself.”
Amon chuckled.
“ I can actually understand that.”
“ Understand?” She asked, then began to glance around the restaurant. “ Is Robin not here?”
“ She’s gone on a case out of town too.” He explained to the girl. “ She could be gone for a couple of days.”
“ Never heard her say anything about, nor you for that matter.” Thought out loud the lady.
The man began to explain in point form just why the young fire-user had to be out of town without him. Touko just listened, knowing that the man would give all of the information needed if she would just take the time.
Amon swept up his drink, after filling in the woman on just what was happening. Touko just looked at the man and give a knowing type of sigh..
“ Since it seems like we are going to be basically alone for the at least the night...” She said with a smile. “ I suggest we stay right here at Harry’s and have a few.” The woman took a sip of her wine. “ With our loved ones gone, we should keep each other company so we don’t go nuts or something.”
“ I can agree with that.” Said the man, sipping on his drink. “ Drinking alone can be lonely.”
“ I know it would help me out.” Touko commented.
Amon nodded to the dark tressed woman, who had lifted her drink to her lips. He could agree with that, he thought, being with out Robin was a little odd to him anyhow. He now found himself wanting to be more... sociable than normal. Probably to get his mind from thinking on Robin too much
The two just sat there, talking on things into the night.
