Chapter 12 - Backdoor

There were not too many people siting in a small restaurant, that was located on a outer streets of Tokyo's downtown area. The little shop, cutely called the Teddy Bear Noodle House, seemed empty and barren, as perhaps six people not counting the employees were in there.

A young woman with short brown hair and a leather overcoat came in to the restaurant, stopping at the door to look around for a second. The woman seemed to be looking for someone as she moved to take a booth that was way in the back.

Taking a seat, the waitress raced over quickly, as the emptiness of the place meant no waiting for service to come.

The woman in the booth just ordered a coffee from the restaurant worker.

" Is that all you want?" The middle aged waitress groused, seemingly annoyed with the younger lady ordering just a simple coffee. " We are a restaurant, you know?"

" I am waiting for someone to join me, so all I want for now is the coffee." Curtly replied the younger customer.

" Do you want a carafe of coffee then?"" The waitress sneered, looking at the unusual customer.

" Please." The woman said, her word painted with a touch of sarcasm.

The black turning grey haired waitress snuffed and turned. She stormed off, mumbling thing under her breath that were probably best not known. The short haired girl shook her head and went back to eyeing the front door of this little eating place.

A long ten minutes went by, and finally a very tall lanky man strode gracefully in to the establishment.

He was seriously near six foot four, quite a size for anyone in Japan, and probably nearing his mid thirties in age. His slicked back hair and long fur coat made him stand out in the place, even if his physical looks might have not.

The man sauntered over with a smooth step, making a beeline for the woman sitting alone in the farthest booth in the place. His face seemed to be curling with a intrigued smile as he neared.

He slipped into the bench styled seat of the booth to sit right across from the young woman. He looked at her with a grin, bobbing his head slightly

" It has been awhile, has it not?" The man commented, his dark colored eyes gleaming. " Imagine my surprise when you phoned me out of the blue to have me meet you, Miho."

" It has been awhile... since the Factory's fall, I do believe Nagira." Miho said, nodding.

The man lit a smoke and looked at the lady.

" To the business at hand... My first question has to be what made you phone me like this?" He said, not messing around with pleasantries any longer. " And what is with this little cloak and dagger routine your doing? I am unsure of just what your wanting."

Miho just leaned on the table, and looked right at the man, noting that he did have a striking resemblance to Amon.

" I might be seen as totally crazy here..." She started, after a moment of pause. " I think Amon and Robin are alive, and might be in some trouble."

The long featured man's eye flashed wide open at hearing the lady's words. He chuckled low in his chest, and took a drag off of his cigarette before leaning in.

" Now someone else who might believe me when I had said I was not surprised if they got out of there alive." The man chortled. " I have said that since we hauled our asses out of the pile of garbage that was the Factory."

Miho blinked, remembering that the man had been saying the exact same thing on that faithful day. She just shook her head as she wondered why that little piece of information had slipped her mind like it had.

The lady stared directly into Nagira's face, her seriousness now set on her features.

" Saying that, we have reason to believe that by a fingerprint found in a hotel near here, where a room was set afire by someone." She said, bringing the file folder our from where she had concealed it under her coat. " It is linked, not conclusively though, to being Amon's print."

Nagira took the folder and looked inside. He sat, reading the still sparse file, his mind seemingly working overtime with each and every word he read. Miho just watched the man in silence, waiting for what ever the man thought about all of this.

" It is only a seventy percent match to my dear brother's print." He said, after reading the file over. " I believe that it might be his print, but this level of a match won't convince that to other people. The fire thing does suggest it is the power used by Robin-chan, but there are others that possess that power too."

" I know that." Miho said. " I told that to Haruto, when we saw the crime scene."

" Did you find any thing else that may also say that they were still alive? Did you ever come up with Robin's print or a strand of hair?" The lawyer asked, looking right at the woman. " Any other evidence to that conclusion?"

" No we did not." She snuffed. " Just Amon's and the pile of ash... and this gut feeling I have been having"

" Then why am I here?" Queried the man, yet his eyes seemed to show he already knew th answer that was coming.

Miho just looked around them, making sure that no one was in hearing distance to them.

" I want you to check into the possibility of them being alive, on the sly for me." She said.

" You mean see if I can locate my own brother and his little buddy-girl?" He said whimsically." Why not just wait and see if SOLOMON might be able to come up with... or do you think that might be a little stupid?"

" Don't make fun of it." Karasuma snapped, hearing the man's ribbing. " You have ways of finding out things that even the STN or SOLOMON cant... and SOLOMON might want Robin and Amon dead after all of what they know."

" That is a problem." The slick haired man said. " But I know a lot about it too.. My question always has been just why has SOLOMON not come down on me?"

Miho pondered that angle for a second. The man had one hell of a point with that.

" You may not be a threat..." She said, coming up with the theory on the spur of the moment.

" Please... " He said, his eyes now showing the deep seriousness the man was now working with. " I know about their ORBO, some of the inner workings of SOLOMON... The way they have been hunting down witches... The STN and more than just a simple outline of witches and everything. "

" You think they might be investigating you?" Miho asked, the thought not lost on her. " Waiting for the chance to take you down?"

Nagira leaned back, smiling.

" If they are, I can make it very hard for them to do that." He said, with a confident smile. " But I think it is because I know so much, they are banking on me keeping my big mouth shut as long as they do not cause me any grief."

" Information protection by dong nothing?" She asked, mulling that phrase around. " If anyone would do that, SOLOMON could." She then took a sigh. " Now, are you going to do this or not... you do have all of the resources to give it one hell of a try."

" Well... I am that good." He pompously snickered, smoothing his hear with a hand. " And I can handle SOLOMON, if needed to be..."

" Could you cut the comedy?" Said a frustrated Miho. " A simple yes or know would do me."

The man just chuckled again and nodded. He leaned in, showing the woman that he was now taking it seriously.

" I could do that." He said.

A thought came into Miho's mind, something she had not thought about when she had called the tall lawyer.

" Have you done it already? Searched to see if your brother's alive?" Butted in the woman. " Do you know something already?"

The man sat up a little and took a drag off of his rapidly burning down smoke. He looked into the younger one's face.

" I thought of finding out if my little brother was alive a thousand times since the day, right after the factory had fallen." The man admitted. " I simply waited for awhile to do it."

" Why did you not?" She asked, not understanding. " Don't you wonder? He was your brother."

" He's actually my half brother..." Informed the man with a smile. " I just think if my little bro wanted me to know, he would contact me in his usual covert way." The man explained. " To date, I have received no such luck."

" Will you do some investigating now then?" She asked. " I have this sneaking suspicion that they are on the run from someone."

Nagira raised his eyebrows, and cleared his throat.

" Is it SOLOMON?"

" Possible they are." Agreed the Hunter Woman. " Officially they say they are not after Amon and Robin, they think they are dead too. It would not be the first time they say one thing, and do another."

" So because you are suspicious with SOLOMON, you think this pile of bones and ash was once a hunter?" Inquired the lawyer.

" We don't actually know..." She said. " It is taking longer than normal for a autopsy investigation report to come back from Headquarters. I think these remains may be a hunter."

Amon just sat for a moment, sipping on the coffee he had near him.

" Speculating, aren't you?" Nagira warned, seeing the girl's unsaid suspicions.

" That is all I have got." She replied back. " That is why I want you to poke around to see." The woman half smiled. " I will pay you to do this, if you won't."

Nagira shook his head sharply, and then looked right into the woman's dark browns.

" I do not want to be payed for this." He spat, waiving his hand to accent his words. " As for if I would do this... the answer is a no-brainer for me. I will."

Miho took a deep breath, as the tension quickly drained from her body. She looked up at the man, a smile now painted her looks.

" Do you think you could find out then..." Started Miho. " If our Amon and Robin are in fact, alive and on the run?"

Nagira put out his cigarette, and lit another one almost instantly.

" I dunno... my brother is pretty good at disappearing when he has to, if they are alive to begin with." He said, taking a pull from his smoke. " I think so." He looked at the woman. " What happens if it is not Amon or Robin?"

" We will just have to cross that bridge if it comes to that." Karasuma said, nodding. " The thought of that has crossed my mind too."

" You seem so sure that Amon and little Robin are still alive, aren't you?" He asked. " You always struck me as more by the evidence type of gal, rather than a gut instinct type."

Miho pondered that statement for a moment.

" I am not fully sure of anything that goes through my mind right now.. Or even if I am right or not..." She began, still thinking as she talked. " But something inside of me will not let it go."

" You must be confused on all of this, since you ended up calling on me." He said. " All I can do is poke around, and see what pops out of the woodwork when I do it."

" I am only doing it, because I don't know what to do." Miho said, taking a deep breath in to calm the emotions.

Nagira snuffed and stood up.

" Then I guess I need to go and start this ball rolling."

" Be careful." Miho said, looking up at the lanky man. " The possibility you ming but heads with SOLOMON is there."

" Awhh...Didn't know you cared about me." He smirked.

Miho smiled, but did not answer the man back. He only smirked, with a chuckle under his breath, seeing the non-verbal response on Karasuma's face.

Nagira set down his coffee cup after draining it with one long swallow. He smiled one last time, waived and then turned and walked away from the table. He exited the small eatery and promptly vanished, which Miho could not explain how he did it. She just stared at the door the man had exited.

" Am I doing the right thing, or am I just nuts to think Amon and Robin are alive?" She asked herself.

This was one complicated situation, she told herself. The odd nature of it all was the one who would have figured all of this out better than she was trying to do, was one of the two she was searching for.

What ever was found out, she knew, might jeopardize someone along the way. She needed to know, not just for herself, she had a bad feeling that if she never found it out... could be deadly for anyone down the line.
