Chapter 17 - The muddy truths

Karasuma felt a light hand shaking her persistently through her sleep numbed mind. She opened her eyes slowly and looked up from where she lay. A figure was standing over her, and she squinted a little to see who it was that was rousting her.

Michael was the one that stood over her, his face had a smile cracked on it. Miho rubbed her eyes, as she waited for the youth to say something.

" You said to wake you when the report from SOLOMON headquarters came in on the ashes came in."

She nodded and groggily sat herself up, her mind still a little clouded from her sleep. She looked down at the small couch she had taken a nap on, and wondered how she had gotten so comfortable on something that was so short.

Miho sighed and then turned her attention back to the waiting young computer guru, and the report she had been so desperately waiting on..

" It came in?" She asked, clarifying what she had heard from their master hacker's mouth.

" Just... came via e-mail from them a few moments ago." The lad said, turning and beginning to head back to his work station. " I have not even looked at it yet... I thought you might want to first."

" Thanks." She said, standing up and discarding her coat off of her that she had used as a blanket for her little siesta. She tossed the coat on the couch and took a long breath to get her mind to complete alertness. " Let's just go and see just what pearls of wisdom they have given us."

She stretched her small body, marveling at the fact that she was not too kinked up from her rest on the couch. Feeling much better now she had gotten some sleep to renew herself, she followed the young man back to his computer work station, her mind now focusing in on what SOLOMON jut might have came up with in the case, hoping that it would shed some light on this baffling mystery.

The lad got on his computer and the punched some keys on the keyboard. After a few seconds of siting there looking at his screen, he looked over to the waiting lady, a small grin of excitement on his face.

" I have just sent it to your in-box already, Miss Karasuma." He said with a confident lilt in his words. " If you don't mind, I would like to go over the report as you read it all through."

" Knock yourself out." Miho giggled, seeing the lads very interest had been quite peaked with the Reports arrival. " It would not be the same, if we tried to keep you out of the loop."

Miho sat down at her desk, eagerly bringing up the document on to her screen. Waiting for this report, had been a learning adventure of patients. She leaned in to see the screen eagerly as the document finished loading up and began reading it. She just focused on nothing else, as she took the time to also get it printing out while she read it.

Over a half an hour had passed, Miho leaned back in her chair and stared at what she had been reading for this long. Her face had a look of confusion on it, as she seemed to not be fully understand just what she had been reading.

It was confusing, to say the least, that showed in the woman's eyes, as the report stood out on the screen.

" This it?" She mumbled to herself, her face squishing up into a sour looking expression. " Twenty pages plus of text and pictures, and SOLOMON seems to have said practically nothing?"

Michael appeared suddenly at the girl's desk. The young man's face was showing the exact look of bewilderment as what the lady sported.

" What the fuck?" He uncharacteristically swore with a sharpness, looking at Miho through his tinted glasses. " I gotta as this...Did you understand anything that this report was suppose to be saying?"

Miho shook her head, and took a deepening sigh as she tried to find some words to explain herself

" It seemed to be saying that they did not identify the remains we sent them, or have any idea whatsoever on just who this was..." Grumped the woman, not turning away from the document on the screen. " It also has an air to it that they simply were running around the entire process of the identification."

" I thought it was just me that was confused..." The hacker said with a sigh, scratching his head. " I've read many of these reports, this is on that I could not make heads or tails out of any of it. They could have wrote this crap in Arabic, and I would probably understand it better than what they have sent."

" It does seems that it is saying absolutely nothing." Said the frustrated hunter woman.

Miho sat back in her chair and stared up at the ceiling. Her mind was trying to figure out just what she had read, but it still was not making any sense. She suddenly got a thought in her head, one that seemed to be very plausible, yet unplausible at the same time.

" Michael.." She said, getting the youth's attention as she sat straighter in her seat. " Do you think this report is this way from them, for a reason?"

The computer kid sat up straight too, The woman's words had made some serious sense to him.

" It seems that all this is doing is just telling us that they did not want to identify this person, but why is what I can figure out." The youth said. " It does say that the DNA was not readable, but I am getting the distinct impression that they just might know the identity of this person even before they got the remains."

" You think they have hid that?"

" It seems that way." The hacker said, his face a soured version of his usual smiling self.. " I dunno why, but it seriously looking like it."

Miho just sat silent, watching the young man's face with a understanding gaze. She could not dispute any of this speculation.

" That is where I am at with it." Karasuma said, agreeing with the lad. " This is the most confusing and totally non-informational report I have ever came across ever." She looked at the young whiz, as she planned her words carefully to get a repeat of his thoughts. " You think that they do know just who this heap of ashes already?"

The lad did not say a word, but his head nodded with agreement. Miho just snuffed and looked back at her screen, her suspicions were right there and were being seriously hard to ignore. She agreed with the lads spin on all of this, her conclusions were exactly the same. Something about this report stank to high heaven, and it was coming straight from SOLOMON Headquarters.

She was going to read the report over again, but decided on not doing that. It would not change it anyway. It seemed as if SOLOMON was bound and determined to hide what they knew, leaving them to just simply move on with the investigation without it. The question was why?

Were they aware of this person, and the reason behind his apparent battle with someone that had powers that seemed to rival Robin's?

"Why would they hide this information from us, and give us all of this garbage?" She asked herself. Then she had a small side thought, one that made a chill go through her. " Are they involved in this?"

As Miho pondered the cryptic report, her ears picked up the familiar sounds of her cell phone starting to ring. She looked over at the small couch where she had left it, and could hear it ringing away in her coat pocket. She hurried over and retrieved her phone with great anticipation, as if she had been waiting for it to go off.

Curiosity flowed through the young hacker, as he watched the speed that the lady had gotten to where her cell was ringing. He noted her being almost overly anxious to answer it, and that made him wonder just what the lady was doing.

Miho was on the cell only for a few minutes, then she threw on her coat and turned to the young man at the computer after unceremoniously jamming her phone back in her pocket.

" I've got to step out for awhile here... I have a line on something" She said, racing to the exit where the elevator was. " If you need me Michael, just contact me."

" Uh, yeah.. Will do." He said, trying to hide his curiosity. " Where are you going then, if the chief asks?"

" Just tell him I have to check up on something..." She said, there was a odd sense of vagueness painted in her voice.

The hacker lad nodded and watched, as the woman hurried herself off for the exit. It was obvious to him that the call Miho had received, had her enthused for some reason. He knew, something was up with her, or more clearly, she was up to something.

The youth just watched, until the lady was out of sight. He picked up his phone and dialed with a quick flick of his fingers then spoke very softly when it was apparent someone had answered for him.

The lad was on the phone only for a short time, then he hung up. A small smile broke over his face, as he returned to his computer.
