Wolf's Rain Fan Fiction ❯ The Moon's Tears ❯ Reunion Of Wolves ( Chapter 9 )
Wow *sweat drop* o_0;; I didn't know that many people have read this story…1500+ views. I must be doing something right if people are reading this. Anyways, here's the next chapter, sorry for the LONG wait, you can kill me if you want. And I'm going to be going back to chapters and editing them for grammatical, spelling, etc.
Note: I'm throwing away the idea of making this into a trilogy story, I think it'd be better if it was just one long story.

Ch apter Nine Of The Moon's Tears: Reunion Of Wolves
Khota walked hurriedly around the unusually busy human city, occasionally bumping into people as she walked along. She hated how all the human smells mixed with the smells of the waste in the air, concocting a putrid odor that made her hold her nose.
Her 'human' appearance had changed somewhat over the course of three months (A/N: Huge leap in time from last chapter, sorry). Her hair was done in a long braid that went between her shoulder blades with long bangs framing her face. She no longer wore the black turtle neck tank top and skirt, instead she was attired in baggy forest green cargo pants and a white short sleeve shirt with a denim jacket over it. But she kept her boots though and the tattoo under her eye was still present.
Rayne, Baku and Aki become just a part of her life that was left in the past, she missed them still, but she knew it was better to move ahead then dwell on the past. Rayne had often told her that when they had in deep conversations when she was apart of their pack.
She walked along with her hands shoved into her jacket packets trying to pick Kiba's or Hige's smells out in the city, they had agreed to met at noon in the city, but the problem was she was having trouble picking up their scents. She thought at last one of them would possess the intelligence to mark (A/N: Mark…XD) the place that they would met up, but not even her sensitive nose could pick their smells out.
Khota sighed heavily and leaned against a cement wall fuming silently to herself, this wasn't the first time she had had trouble finding the others in a city or town. Her wolf senses seemed to be waning and everyone had noticed that. Her hearing wasn't as sharp, her eyesight was getting poorer, her strength was equal to that of an average teenage girl, her reflexives had slowed traumatically and her sense of smell was getting worse.
She sat down and cupped her chin in her left hand and propping her elbow on her knee narrowing her eyes in an annoyed fashion.
She recalled hearing Tsume saying that she was starting to smell like a human a few nights ago and he constantly complained about how helpless she was becoming after she had almost gotten seriously injured by an antelope she was hunting who decided to fight back about a week ago.
Khota remembered when she heard her brother talking about how she was an experiment. 'That must be it', she thought sourly standing back up and placing her hands on her hips, 'Something is wrong with me because of how I was created, but why is this happening now? I've been fine for a while…'
She bit her lip as she strolled around a corner deep within her own thoughts.
"Khota?" A voice called out from behind her, a very familiar voice.
She looked over her shoulder to see a wolf whom she immediately recognized and a smile started on her lips. "Rayne." she replied nodding blushing slightly.
The male wolf run up to her and gave her a brief hug then put his hand on her head grinning, "It's been awhile kiddo. How have you been?"
"Good." she said simply, "Everything's been fine. How about you?"
"Good too I guess…" His eye glistened in the sun, "You've changed quite a bit." He examined her quickly.
"If that's a complement then thank you," she said childishly. She clasped her hands together in front of her, "It's so good to see you, it's been a long time…too long." Guilt consumed her once again, "I really shouldn't have left you guys like that. That wasn't fair to any of you, I'm sorry."
Rayne stared at her for a few moments then said, "It has been a long time, but I'm sure you had reasons to do what you did." He tilted his head to the side, "It wasn't like you forgotten about us, that would be something unforgivable Khota."
"How did you find me?" she asked, "I couldn't pick out your scent."
He seemed a little surprised, "I thought you had a good nose."
"Eh…" Khota put her hands on her cheeks embarrassedly, "To be honest, my wolf abilities haven't been their sharpest lately."
He slung his arm around her, "Well I guess that means I'll have to look after you more carefully then I did before." His grin turned into a cute smile which made her cheeks turn dark pink.
Khota looked up at him. Why did she ever leave them? To be with her brother, that's why. But being back with Rayne, just in his presence, felt so much better to her, more comforting. But even the feelings she had for him couldn't compare to what she felt for Kiba…or could it?
"Speaking of Aki and Baku…" she said gazing up at her friend, just remembering her other pack members, "Where are they?"
He looked away and his eyes glazed over, "They got caught in the last town we were in by a hunter." He said shortly taking his arm down and letting it hang at his side while the other one was in his pants pocket..
Khota's eyes widened, "Th-that…that can't…be…" She shook her head. "Who would capture them?"
Rayne turned his back and whispered, "Leiko…"
"Leiko," Khota repeated, it sounded familiar…where had she heard it. The hunter she encountered before! "Her!"
"You know her?" Rayne said arching an eyebrow at her.
Khota heaved a sigh of despair, "I met her before once…"
"Oh," Rayne said, his eyes shiftily reverting away from hers.
"So are you gonna help them?" she inquired tucking a tendril of hair behind her ear.
"There my…our, friends aren't they? I feel obligated to help them, although I'm more used to bailing you out of trouble to be honest." He paused frowning then continued slowly, "I wish you hadn't left, things weren't the same without you."
She folded her arms across her chest, "I'm sorry…" she whispered staring at him intently.
He brought his eyes up to hers, "I was thinking," his voice becoming more serious, "Will you help me?"
Khota knew that was coming and she didn't know what to say. To leave and help Rayne save Aki and Baku meant leaving her brother, her new friends and Kiba…if she left she'd probably never see them again. But if she didn't she would be letting Aki and Baku down and she'd already hurt them so much. "I don't know, that's a lot to be asking Rayne. There will be consequences no matter what I choose. If I go with you Hige and Kiba will be hurt, but I don't go…Baku…and Aki will think I'm horrible."
Rayne stared slightly surprised at her, 'She's matured so much,' he thought. "Well what do you think you should do?"
Khota rolled her teeth over her bottom lip carefully, "I don't know. This isn't fair to make me choose."
"I know, life's all about hard choices." He put his arms around her and pulled her into a gentle embrace. "Just tell me what you want to do." he said quietly into her ear, "I won't make you go if you don't want to."
She grabbed his hands and pulled out of his embrace, "I…"

"That bastard traitor!" Aki snarled furiously as Baku tried to pull a dagger out of her shoulder blade. Blood was splattered everywhere in the tiny jail cell that they had been confined to. "Where does he get off making a deal with that noble behind our backs?" She whimpered with pain as Baku finally pulled the bloody piece of metal out of her.
"I don't know," he said angrily tossing the dagger aside, "If I ever get my hands on him though, I'll rip him to shreds."
Aki's fur was soaked with blood and she had gashes on her left side, "We should've known he'd pull something like this once we got into that noble's territory. He couldn't stop thinking about her."
Baku sat with his legs crossed, being unusually cool headed in the situation they were in, "I've known him longer then you have and I never guessed he'd do this, we were right not to suspect anything."
Aki stood up, wincing from pain, but tolerating it, "This is so fucking weak…"

Khota looked into Rayne's eyes that were completely focused on her and stammered, "I'll g-go with you."
Rayne nodded curtly, "Okay then, let's go. Follow me." He then ran down the street with Khota close behind.
Kiba watched as they ran out of his view from on the roof of the building with furrowed brows. "Khota," he said under his breath, "I really hope you're making the right decision."
