A/N: I didn't like how every WR fic was Yaoi… I mean you folks can believe in what you like I just personally don't like it so here's a nice little fic from me ^_^ humm I also didn't like how people started writing a character's relationship advance really quickly, I find it unrealistic especially in a story as gloomy as Wolf's Rain… that's not to say my story will be dark! I mean some parts might, it is a dark anime…

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this, I'm making all this up as I go along; I have a plot in mind but I don't know the ending so bare with me :)

NOTE: …in my fic they haven't found paradise yet, Blue ran off to find “Pops” saying she'd return once she was sure he was truly ok and they lost Cheza… again… so it's a LITTLE au, only because I wanted to extend the anime some :)

UPDATE 10/22/08: I'm editing this a tad, correcting spelling mistakes, adding a bit more content where it seems lacking, that whole jazz… I hope you enjoy it!

Enjoy!!

Chapter 1: The Wanderer
+-+-+-+-+-+
(This first paragraph scene inspired by song “You Can't Take Me” by Bryan Adams)

The sun beat down on the dry earth harshly as the unyielding wind bellowed sand around everywhere it could. A lone wolf made its way through the unforgiving desert, leaving a long trail of its own blood as it ran; the vultures already began to circle it, knowing soon they might have a meal. The wolf, however, drove on, pumping its limbs faster and faster still, driven by the whispering song, the song that spoke of tranquility, of passion, of peace, of paradise.

All the wolf saw was the light in the distance - even if it was merely an illusion, perhaps from the blood-loss, perhaps from something altogether different, the wolf wasn't sure and frankly didn't care - it was enough to keep the wolf going. All it felt was the great pull of something it could not understand but knew it needed badly. All it smelled was the sweet scent of a flower, a lunar flower, the smell that drove its senses insane. Would it ever reach its destination before death claimed it?

The wolf fought the desert, fought the anguish that was its pain and memory but soon it knew that it had to surrender to the natural cycle of life… but it refused to let go, it refused to give up. The wolf was free; it would not give up and let some unknown force take that away from it. But how long could it keep it up? Spilling its blood and ignoring the scream of pain that surged through its body…

“Kiba… Kiiiiiiba!” A plump, brown wolf called the big white wolf. A small pack of wolves ran through a barren desert, on the hunt for their missing friend, Cheza, the lunar flower. The white wolf glanced back at the brown one and snorted a reply.

What Hige?” Kiba snapped tolerantly, tired of hearing Hige and Toboe complain so much - the trek wasn't that long and they had had a pit-stop four hours ago so what could they want?.

“Can we stop already? This heat is wearing the runt out!” Hige, the brown wolf, said gesturing to the younger wolf, Toboe, lagging behind them. Unlike Hige however, the pup had not complained the entire day.

“I'm not a runt! Quit calling me that… and I'm fine…” Toboe protested, panting despite himself. Tsume snorted and rolled his eyes in the direction of Hige.

“Yknow the only reason he's bringing the kid up is because he's the one who wants to stop…” Tsume sneered at the shorter wolf and shook his fur from sand as he tried to dodge the dusty wind in his face.

“Alright so I-hey what's that?” Hige asked and pointed a little in the distance. The wolves all turned their heads as they ran, noticing for the first time that they where not alone as they ran. Another wolf in the distance seemed to be going in the same direction as they… but, unless he or she was looking for paradise how could it know of Cheza?

`It looks like… another wolf?' Kiba assessed to himself as they drew closer until they where running almost parallel.

“Heeeey it's a girl.” Hige said with a smirk, he still felt very strongly about Blue who was still out there somewhere but he still enjoyed pointing it out to aggravate the grey wolf; as predicted Tsume scoffed.

“It figures that's the first thing you'd notice.” Tsume growled, having a bad day and snapped at Hige who yelled and swatted back in defense.

“Hey! Cut it out!”

“Hey come on guys don't fight!” You could guess who that was. That's when they realized Kiba had not said a word. They turned in his direction; he had his gaze locked on the wolf. He had never seen a more beautiful creature, not even the lunar flower came close to the majestic beauty of the slim, strong figured creature near them.

One thing that got his curious attention was that he could not tell what color her fur was, was it black, red or brown? “Hey Kiba you ok-hey wait a minute…” he interrupted himself almost frantically and sniffed the air warily. “I smell… blood… wolf blood!” He said in a panic.

“Hey cut your crap you're scaring the kid.” Tsume scolded. Toboe gave him a look, recovering from fear stricken daze.

“I knew you cared!” he said happily. Tsume groaned irritably, annoyed at himself for letting his soft side show even a little bit. Kiba still held his gaze but as the hill they ran on slopped down toward her he finally noticed the long trail of blood she left in her wake and that's when he noticed also why he couldn't tell what color her fur was… She. Was. Caked. In. Blood!

Hige noticed his friend's alarmed expression and looked at the female wolf again, noticing for the first time how unbelievably wounded she was. “Oh… it was her blood...” he said grimly.

“Should we help her? She might die!” Toboe said mournfully.

“We don't know who she is, she could be an enemy!” Tsume growled. They watched as the wolf relentlessly and with as much or more determination then the white wolf ran despite her obviously painful, gaping wounds. As she ran she pumped her legs hard but you could tell she was straining herself. The more she ran the more she bled, fresh blood making a stream on the orange sand. They saw her waver in her steps.

It was all the wolves could take and as if they all silently agreed despite their caution they made their way to the dark furred wolf. Suddenly they watched in horror as she tripped over her own feet, tumbled ad landed motionless on a steadily increasing pool of her blood. Kiba was already racing down toward her, ignoring the calls of his friends that lagged behind.

As he reached her he saw how she truly was now. She had a rip in her side, gashes along her front and hind legs and her foot was twisted in an awkward angle. He could only guess how she was able to put up with that pain and continue running with that foot and so many wounds. `Just what the hell happened to her?' he wondered as he surveyed her, ignoring his friend's questions as they reached him.

Kiba kneeled in front of her, still taken by her sheer beauty even if she was covered in blood. He made to reach for her but stopped abruptly as a low growl erupted from her throat. She opened her eyes that would have been silver if not covered with blood and glared as best she could to who she presumed was an attacker.

“Let me help you.” Kiba said gently. Although she could not see because of the loss of blood and blur in her vision she could make out a shape, it shifted from wolf to human.

`One… like me?' she thought exhaustedly. Her growl died down some, not trusting the stranger but not being able to do anything to fight him. Kiba effortlessly lifted the wounded wolf in his arms. Hige reached over to see if her foot was just dislocated and not broken but the dark furred wolf growled and went to snap weakly at his hand, craning her neck from her held position.

Hige raised his hands in defense. “Hey `just trying to see if I could help.” He said. Toboe walked over and the wolf growled at him as well, unable to tell that he was merely a pup. Toboe began to ask question but she could not tell what he was saying as he spoke rapidly. He mind was not working right and all she wanted to do was sleep. Soon she felt herself weaken and the darkness start to overcome her, pulling her into sleep. The only thing she could remember before she passed out was the soothing voice in her ear and the almost surreal sense of warmth and security.

“We'll take care of you…” the voice whispered. “I'll take care of you.” The voice clarified softer so only she could hear. She did not understand why he would help and why it made her feel so good but she could not think anymore as her body gave up resisting sleep.

End A/N: Kinda gross eh? With all the blood and gore I mean MUAHAHA… I didn't think it was too bad but who knows, I have a pretty twisted mind :)
