Wolf's Rain: Wandering Wolf

Disclaimer: I do not own WR or any of the characters related to WR. . .the only characters I own are my own OC's. . .and my muses. The only characters I own are Korunae. . .and a couple other wolves that enter in the story. Contains shounen-ai and possible yaoi.

Chapter 1: T's and Butterflies

A howl echoes through the stillness of the night as Kiba jumps to his feet looking out of the cave they had been sleeping in. " Kiba. . .was that you?" asks Toboe as he stands up, rubbing his eyes.

" Toboe. . .quiet," whispers Kiba as the howl comes again, seeming closer this time as the white wolf growls. " I wonder if it's actually another wolf. . ." Hige yawns as he stands up as he looks at the two.

" What are you two doing already up?" asks Hige as he looks at the two. The howl resounds once again, much closer as Toboe looks up onto the top of the hill and catches his breathe. " What is it squirt?" Toboe points up onto the hill as Hige follows his hand as his eyes go wide. " Another one of us?" A beautiful silver and blue-grey wolf stands on the top of the hill a collar around it's neck. The wolf turns it's head, starring straight at Toboe as the other wolf blinks as he stares into a pair of amethyst eyes. " You sure it's a wolf? Looks like a dog to me. . .husky perhaps."

" It's a wolf," says Tsume as he stands up as Hige blinks. " Most certainly a wolf. . .I can smell it from here. . .really thin wolf. . .wonder if it's male or female." The other wolf slowly starts walking toward them as he brushes his bangs out of his eyes as they see his human form, white and grey-blue hair held in a loose ponytail, amethyst eyes, belly shirt, arm warmer's, shorts, boots, a leg wrap on his left leg, the collar, a whip hanging over his shoulder and a strange, scarf wrapped around his collar. The boy stops before them and smiles sadly. " Who are you? And what do you want?"

" Oh! How rude of me," whispers the boy and smiles as he bows. " My name is Korunae. . .I'm surprised to meet other wolves. . ." Kiba watches the other wolf suspiciously, glare present at all times on his face as Korunae keeps on smiling. Hige notices a butterfly mark on the boy's stomach and starts to ask, but stops. He takes in the T mark on Korunae's pants and on his leg warmer and also the whip.

" What's with the whip?" asks Tsume as he reaches out to touch the whip and blinks as Korunae shrinks back from him. " What? I was just wondering why a wolf would carry a whip?"

" Protection," says Korunae as he looks away from the others shyly. " Well. . .you know my name. . .mind telling me yours?"

" I'm Hige," says Hige as he nods to the other wolf who returns the gesture as he looks at the other three.

" Kiba," mutters Kiba as he turns and curls back up in the cave. Korunae blinks and then just shrugs as he looks at Tsume.

" Tsume," offers Tsume and with that turns as Hige follows after him, leaving Korunae alone with Toboe. Korunae smiles at the other wolf as Toboe returns the gesture.

" And what about you. . .what's your name?" asks Korunae as he looks at the other boy, standing just about his size.

" Oh! My name's Toboe," says Toboe and bows slightly to Korunae who bows as well as he smiles. " I. . .um. . .like your tattoo. . ."

" You do now?" asks Korunae and chuckles as he sits down, Indian style as he looks up at the brown haired boy-wolf. " What's with Kiba and Tsume. . .they're. . .sorta. . .I don't know. . .offish?"

" Hmm. . .they like their space," says Toboe and looks at Kuronae's fancy, leather and silver collar. " I. . .um. . .like your collar. . ."

" Thanks. . .my. . .an old friend of mine gave it to me," whispers Kuronae. Toboe nods as Kuronae smiles sadly as he looks at the sky. " You sort of remind me of him Toboe. . .of my friend. . .I like your bracelet. . .where'd you get it?"

" Um. . .Granny gave it to me," whispers Toboe. Kuronae nods as he stands up as his whip dangles over his shoulder. " Um. . .really. . .why do you carry that whip?" Kuronae winces as he turns to look at Toboe. Toboe blinks as he notices the flinch and smiles as Kuronae looks at him.

" I really don't want to talk about the whip Toboe," whispers Kuronae and with that falls silent as he pulls his scarf around him as he knells in the snow as a sad smile befalls his pale face. " Let it go Toboe. . .the whip. . .is a subject best left alone."

" Oh. . .I'm. . .I'm sorry. . .Kuronae," whispers Toboe as he walks toward the cave. " Um. . .aren't you cold?"

" Toboe. . .I'm a wolf too. . .I'm fine," whispers Kuronae, but inwardly curses at his stubbornness as he flinches inwardly as he feels the cuts on his arms and hips bleeding. " I'll be just fine. . .I like the snow. . .you go in if you're cold." Toboe shrugs as he turns and walks toward the cave as he looks over his shoulder a final time at the other boy, feeling that something isn't quite right.

" Well. . .he doesn't seem much of a threat. . .but did you notice his smell?" asks Tsume as he talks with the other three. Kiba makes a face and nods as he leans against a fall as Hige shrugs as Toboe shakes his head. " He wrecks of blood! How couldn't you notice the Toboe?"

" He. . .um. . .also smells like Lunar Flowers," whispers Toboe. Kiba's head snaps up as he looks at the younger wolf as Toboe nods. " Especially that whip of his. . .it was too overpowering for me to smell the blood. . ."

" Wait a second. . .yeah. . .he was really testy when I asked about the whip," says Tsume and shrugs. " But. . .how could that whip smell like Lunar Flowers?"

" I don't know. . .but we should ask him," growls Kiba as he walks toward the cave opening and looks out and notices Kuronae laying in the snow where Toboe left him. " I have a question for you Kuronae." The smaller wolf doesn't even move as Kiba blinks as he takes a cautious step forward and then blinks as he takes a deep breathe. " Toboe. . .tell me now that you don't smell blood and I'll punch you." Toboe takes a deep breathe as he eyes grow wide as he runs over and kneels next to Kuronae as he shakes the boys shoulders. " Damn it. . .and I thought it might be from a kill. . .he's covered in his own blood. . ."

" Kuronae. . .wake up," whispers Toboe as he shakes the wolf's shoulders. " Come on Kuronae. . .wake. . .u. . ." Toboe blinks as Tsume picks Kuronae up and runs back to the cave with the much lighter wolf. " Kuronae. . ."

" What was that idiot thinking?" asks Kiba as he looks at the wounds on the boy's hips and arms. " Hmm. . .look like they were made from a. . .whip?" Toboe holds Kuronae's whip in his hands as Kiba knells next to the much smaller boy, trying to stop the blood flow. " He's a wolf. . .but he's bleeding like a freakin human!?"

" I'm part human," mumbles Kuronae as his eyes snap open as he darts away from Kiba, grabbing his scarf and wrapping the twenty foot long piece of material around himself. " Where are my clothes?" Kiba points over to a corner where Kuronae's bloodied clothes had been put. " You should ask someone's permission before removing their clothes. . .Kiba." Kiba blinks as Kuronae glares at him as the smaller wolf huddles in the corner, putting his collar on and then pulling on his shorts and leg warmer, keeping his scarf wrapped around his chest.

" You were unconscious Kuronae. . .we couldn't ask you," says Tsume and makes a face. " Why does your whip smell like Lunar Flowers?" Kuronae chuckles wryly as he looks at the whip in Toboe's hands as he smiles sadly.

" Cause Tsume. . .it was made out of lunar flowers," whispers Kuronae as he stands up and walks toward Toboe as he smiles weakly. " The handle. . .is made from the stems of the lunar flowers. . .and the whip part itself. . .is a mixture of silver thread and lunar flower petals. . .it really hurts when it hits you at the right angle. . .I got hurt quite bad stealing it away from a human. . ."

" Why would you steal from a human if you're part human?" asks Kiba. Kuronae smirks as his form changes slightly as he becomes taller with all white hair and iris less white eyes. " Wait are you. . .another experiment?"

" I am," whispers Kuronae as his eyes fall shut. " Part human, part Lunar Flower, and part wolf. . .my friend. . .that I told you about Toboe. . .was a Flower Maiden. . . but not Cheza." Kiba's eyes fly wide as he looks at Kuronae in shock. " A flower maiden that died. . .her name was Tabia. . .she wilted. . ."

" Then. . .is that whip. . .all that's left of her. . .?" asks Hige as he points to the whip. Kuronae just nods as he picks up his blood soaked shirt and pulls it on. " You know if you leave smelling like you do. . .well. . .you'll attract some. . .well. . ."

" I know damn well that I'm a beacon for predators!" snaps Kuronae as he stands up, his eyes burning as he grabs his whip from Toboe as the other wolf flinches as Kuronae stalks toward the entrance to the cave. " We're wolves. . .and I don't need a pack." With that said Kuronae darts out of the cave, and disappears over the hill hence he came.

" That idiot," mutters Tsume as he sits in the cave as he thinks back to Kuronae. " That pup is a blasted idiot."

" I don't know if he's an idiot Tsume," mutters Kiba and shrugs. " I mean. . .he's a wolf. . .he doesn't want to except help. . .but you can tell he doesn't eat well. . .you could practically see his rips. . ." Tsume nods and blinks as something darts past him and then back out as Kiba blinks also. " You saw that. . .didn't you?" Tsume nods as Kiba and him jump to their feet, running past Hige and Toboe who are sleeping. They stare as they look at the moose before them and even more at Kuronae, holding his whip in his left hand and what looks like some weird knife in his right hand. " Kuronae!" Kuronae doesn't even budge as he hears Kiba's voice. "Are you crazy!? You're gonna get yourself killed!"

" You're hungry. . .aren't you? Either way. . .you get something to eat," whispers Kuronae as he dodges the moose as his amethyst eyes shimmer as he spins the whip, catching the moose's leg as he does a back flip, landing in a crouched position as he pulls the whip, the silver parts of the whip cutting into the moose's leg. Kiba growls and blinks as a brown blur launches at the moose as Kuronae hisses. " Toboe! Get the hell back in the cave! This is my fight!" The brown wolf growls as he dodges the moose and blinks as Kuronae launches at him. " Get out of my way!" Toboe just nods as he moves out of Kuronae's way as he see's the flash of the knife in Kuronae's hand as the boy turns into a wolf, amethyst eyes blazing as he bites onto the moose's leg and then whimpers as the moose kicks him, sending him flying through the air. " Damn it. . ." Kiba growls as he and Tsume run toward the moose and blink as Kuronae gets up, grabbing his whip in the process as he jumps into the air his whip shimmering in the light as blood runs from a cut in his side.

" Kuronae! We can handle this!" shouts Kiba and blinks as he hears the crack of Kuronae's whip and see's blood run from a gash in the moose's side. Kuronae growls as he lands beside Toboe who blinks as Kuronae smirks at him and nods. Toboe blinks as Kuronae turns and starts to limp off as he hears the sound of the moose topple over, his whip dripping with blood, both his own and the moose's. " Kuronae! This is your kill! Where are you going?"

" Going? I'm going to die," whispers Kuronae as he continues to limp away from them, but blinks as Toboe grabs his arm. " Toboe. . .let me go. . .I'm not your friend. . .I'm just a wanderer. . .I don't need nor want a pack."

" But he's right Kuronae. . .it. . .it is your kill," whispers Toboe. Kuronae chuckles as he shakes his head as he plops down on the snow, holding his side. " It is!"

" Nope. . .it's not my kill. . .it's Tabia's. . ." whispers Kuronae as he looks at the whip in his lap and smiles weakly. " You guys should eat it. . .I'm fine. . .really. . .you should just let me die in peace. . ."

" Did you mean what you said. . .about either way we'd have something to eat? You don't actually believe. . .that we'd. . .we'd eat you?" asks Toboe as he looks at Kuronae. Kuronae smiles sadly as he looks up into Toboe's eyes. " We wouldn't! We're not cannibals!"

" Toboe. . .in this world. . .it's either kill. . .or be killed. . .there's no other way," whispers Kuronae as he stands up, clutching his wounded side as he smiles. " Eat or die Toboe. . .if you were hungry enough. . .you wouldn't think a second about eating me. . .though I barely have enough meat on me to provide much of a meal. . ."

" Kuronae! Why do you think like that!" shouts Toboe as he looks at the other wolf. Kuronae chuckles as his bangs fall into his eyes as he smiles up at the other pup. " What are you smiling about?"

" You're such a pup Toboe," whispers Kuronae as he struggles to his feet as he clutches his side as he turns his head and smirks at Toboe. " So innocent. . .such a puppy still. . .more like a dog then a wolf." Toboe growls as he glares at Kuronae as the silver and grey-blue haired boy smiles. " Such a. . .what did Hige call you? Squirt?"

" Hey! Look who's talking!" exclaims Tsume as he glares at Kuronae. " You're no older then he is!" Kuronae turns his head and looks at the older wolf as he raises an eyebrow. His sad amethyst eyes meet Tsume's as the white-haired man looks back at the child.

" Tsume. . .I'm not nearly as innocent as Toboe. . ." whispers Kuronae as he continues to limp, clutching his side as his whip brushes the ground behind him. " You guys better eat up. . .as for me. . .I'm gonna go fine somewhere to curl up and die. . ."

" He's right," whispers Kiba as he stares after Kuronae. " He's not nearly as innocent as Toboe. . .did you see how he moved. . .how he killed. . .did you see his eyes?"

" Some of that blood on him. . .wasn't even his own. . .when we first met him," whispers Tsume. " He also wrecked of human. . .full human blood. . ." Kiba nods as he continues to stare after Kuronae and blinks as he see's the pup stumble. " Where'd Blue get too?" Kiba shrugs and blinks as he see's the afore mentioned female dash past Kuronae and stop for a second and then shrug and run up to them.

" Who's that?" asks Blue as she tilts her head in the direction of Kuronae. " And why's he covered in blood. . .you boy's get in a fight? And why isn't anyone eating that kill?"

" His name's Kuronae. . .he's a wolf. . .we did not get in a fight. . .and that's his kill. . .and he's a damn idiot," proclaims Hige as he smiles at Blue. " So now you know. . .he seems to have a strange fascination with Toboe though. . ."

" Hige! That's not true!" shouts Toboe as he glares at Hige who just shrugs and blinks as he watched Kiba, as Kiba watched Kuronae. " Um. . .Kiba?" Kiba turns his head and looks at Toboe and nods. " Why're you starring after Kuronae?" Kiba chuckles as he hears Toboe's pronunciation of the other pups name. " What's so funny Kiba?"

" How you pronounce Kuronae. . .it's Key-ro-ni. . .not Kero-nah," whispers Kiba. Toboe blushes as he looks down at the ground and blinks as he see's Kuronae fall over.

" Um. . .Kiba. . .he fainted," whispers Toboe to Kiba who looks up and nods slightly. " Shouldn't we help him?"

" Toboe. . .he made it quite clear that he doesn't want our help," says Kiba and blinks as Blue and Toboe glare at him. " Fine. . .fine. . .we'll help Kuronae." Kiba sighs as he runs over and picks the other wolf up as he makes a face. " I'm going to go to the city and try to get some stuff to treat his wounds. . .Tsume. . .come with me. . .Toboe. . .you stay with Kuronae. . .and Blue and Hige. . .promise me. . .to try to stay out of Toboe's sight. . ." Hige and Blue blink and then nod at Kiba as he and Tsume run off as Blue and Hige start retreating off into the forest behind the cave.

" Hige! Blue! Where are you guy's going?" asks Toboe as he watches his friends start to leave.

" We'll tell you when you're older Toboe!" shouts Hige, cocky grin on his face as he and Blue run off into the forest as Toboe pouts.

" It's always 'When you're older Toboe'," thinks Toboe as he sits in the cave next to Korunae as he watches the slightly smaller boy sleep. " I wonder if Korunae knows why they sneak off into the woods?" Toboe meddles with the idea of waking the other pup up but sighs and shakes his head. " He'd probably just snap at me or something or tell me to shut-up and leave him alone. . ."

" You wanna know why Blue and Hige sneak off?" asks Kuronae as he sits up weakly. Toboe blinks as blushes as it becomes evident he was speaking outloud. " Well. . .do you Toboe?"

" Yeah Kuronae. . .do you know why they sneak off?" asks Toboe. Kuronae sighs as he brushes his bangs out of his eyes and nods slightly. " You do? Will you tell me?" Kuronae smiles slightly as he looks at the younger wolf and shakes his head. " But Kuronae!"

" You know the time of year when Hige, Tsume, and Kiba are acting really funny?" asks Kuronae as he stretches, wincing slightly at the movement. " It's in what? Two passing's of the moon. . .right?"

" Those three month's where they're all sort of. . .well. . .yeah acting funny," says Toboe and nods. " What about it?"

" I'll tell you then Toboe," says Kuronae and smiles as he rolls over onto his stomach. " No sooner, no later. . .promise."

" You better keep that promise Kuronae," whispers Toboe as he looks at the other wolf. " Kuronae. . .?"

" Hmm? What is it?" asks Kuronae as he sits up and looks at Toboe. " I don't bite. . .least not hard. . ."

" Are you hungry?" asks Toboe. Kuronae blinks and then blushes as he hears his stomach growl and nods slightly. " Want me to get you some of your kill?" Kuronae shakes his head as he struggles to his feet and limps out toward the kill as he smiles as he looks appreciatively over a long cute on the moose's shoulder.

" Hmm. . .Toboe. . .you cut him clean open here," whispers Kuronae as he takes Toboe's hand and presses it against the still blood wet wound. Toboe makes a face as he looks at the blood on his hand and blinks as Kuronae very delicately starts to lick at the wound, not biting, just licking the blood. " Hmm. . .cut the artery. . .good. . ."

" Kuronae. . .aren't you. . .aren't you going to eat it?" asks Toboe. Kuronae nods as he keeps on licking the blood as Toboe sighs. " Soon?"

" But the bloods the best part," whines Kuronae as he turns his head to looks at Toboe and see's the hunger in the other wolf's eyes. " If you wanna eat Toboe. . .eat. . .I'm quite happy licking this wound you made dry."

" Your kill though Kuronae. . .you eat first," whispers Toboe as he stays away from the kill and blinks as Kuronae takes a delicate bite of the moose as he sighs.

" Fine Toboe," murmurs Kuronae as he swallows the bite as he looks toward Toboe and walks back toward the cave. " Eat. . .but leave some for the others. . .they need to eat too." Toboe nods as he watches Kuronae, wondering about the small amount the other wolf ate and then remembering him saying that he's part lunar flower.

" Um. . .Kuronae. . .is it because you're part lunar flower that you don't need to eat a lot?" asks Toboe in a mere whisper. Kuronae turns his head to Toboe and smiles slightly.

" It is," whispers Kuronae and with that disappears inside the cave. " That's why I didn't want to eat. . .but my stomach insisted on making noise. . .so I thought it best if I ate." Toboe nods as he gets to eating as Kuronae smiles slightly. " Toboe. . .I will most certainly tell you in two moons. . .yes I will. . .and you can hold me to that. . .if you still want to know. . .that is. . ."
