Chapter 2
By: Sapadu
Hisoka checked his watch- he and Tsuzuki had agreed to find each other back here in an hour. And, of course, that would mean two hours for Tsuzuki. Hisoka could still feel him, as far as empathy went, but it was faint- Tsuzuki wouldn't be back for awhile.
In this situation, Hisoka went to find him, stretching his senses out to feel where Tsuzuki was, which led him to a secluded spot on a hill.

'Well, most everyone at school trusts you- happy now?'
"Shut up, Solar-san."
'Ho ho ho... crabby are we?'
"I have work to get to. That's why."
Samantha arrived at the office without even dropping off her bag at her apartment- she hadn't been assigned one, yet- to speak with Tatsumi, as she was meant to be back-up for any on-going assignments.
"Phastine-san, please keep in mind that during week days, school is held for a greater percentage of the work day. It is extremely disadvantageous for you to stay in school, especially as high school is not required, even of living citizens." Tatsumi lectured as soon as she came in. Samantha made a face- if he was going to lecture her on a half-day, what was it going to be like every day of the whole rest of the week?
"Well, I'm HERE..." She pointed out, "Do you have any work for me?" Tatsumi blinked at her, but then pushed his glasses up and explained what seemed to have occurred.
"Tsuzuki-san and Kurosaki-kun haven't reported back since this morning, despite that I gave them strict instructions to report to me by this time on any findings- this is a serious issue, even for the summons department, and thus, I need you to run an errand for me. Find Tsuzuki-san and Kurosaki-kun and ask for a report." Tatsumi said, before adding, "And if you find them at a cafe or in a sweet shop, for some reason, don't feel a need to lecture them- I'm SURE they're just taking a break..."
Samantha blinked for a moment, swearing that she could have seen a sign appearing over Tatsumi's head reading 'I'll deal with them later for that' and suddenly, she realized exactly why she was being sent.
"So~o... you want me to play babysitter, in other words..." She surmised.
"Why, Phastine-san, what gives you that impression?" Tatsumi asked, smiling uncharacteristically sweetly. Samantha muttered under her breath.
"...that means yes, doesn't it..." Before Samantha turned and left the room, somewhat goose-stepping as she marched off to her 'job'.
In his office, Tatsumi was privately pleased that he had been right about how sharp Samantha was. It meant that he would save himself a lot of face in the near future.

"How long has it been- almost a year?" Muraki asked, pleasantly, "It's amazing- every time we meet, it seems I come to you while you still smile... And every time we part, I leave you while you weep..."
Tsuzuki kept backing away until he had backed into a tree. Why? Why did it only take a few words and he was completely helpless to this person? Why was it only HIM, and never someone else? Why wasn't he ever strong enough to get over this?
Why?
"Such beautiful eyes- so much more entrancing as they are wide with fear." Muraki reached up with a hand to trace Tsuzuki's face. Tsuzuki froze.
Flames... flames and blood...
"Burn it all, Touda..."
"Tsuzuki!" Tsuzuki blinked and Muraki turned around. Hisoka was standing just a few feet away with a hand pistol out, pointing at Muraki.
"Hi... soka..." The older partner mumbled. Hisoka just made a slight gesture.
"Get away from him. Now!" Tsuzuki wasn't sure who the command was issued to, but he felt confidant that it wasn't for him, as he had no way of obeying. Muraki turned all the way around and Tsuzuki could hear him smirk.
"You've got quite some spine to try and give me orders, boy. Do you forget who is in control, here?" Tsuzuki looked down to see a knife in Muraki's hand, a fact which didn't worry him by itself, but the fact that it already had blood on it, and the same seal which had been burned on the victim's foreheads etched into the hilt.
The knife was cursed to not send on souls. Which meant, plausibly, it would work on shinigami.
"HISOKA- RUN, HE'S GOT A CURSE WITH HIM!" Was the best Tsuzuki could manage to warn his partner. Hisoka faltered for a moment, before he steadied his gun again.
"Do I fucking care? I can take another curse or two." He defiantly declared, giving Muraki a glare while that sunk in. Muraki smirked, and predictably, lifted the knife to Tsuzuki's throat.
"Perhaps you could- I'm not sure. But Tsuzuki-san... he's quite a different story." Muraki agreed, pleasantly, as both the shinigami stared, wide eyed, and both changed their stance, immediately.
"Hisoka.... HISOKA, SHOOT HIM! Do it, now!" Tsuzuki shouted, while Hisoka lowered his gun, gritting his teeth, and his eyebrows twitching as he glared.
"...bastard..." He snarled under his breath at Muraki.

"Make me a babysitter, will you? Well, I'll show you, Tatsumi-san..." Samantha was hissing under her breath as she traced the streets of Nagasaki looking for the missing report, "Just because the Gushoshin are on strike against Tsuzuki blowing up the library... Fried chicken for ME, tonight..."
Samantha stopped talking as her ears picked up what sounded like someone shouting in the distance.
Correction- what sounded like HISOKA shouting in the distance.
Quietly darting through the streets and into a grove of trees, Samantha found herself peering into what looked like a confrontation. A man dressed purely in white had Hisoka in a grip- as though the Kurosaki had attempted to throw a punch and had gotten his arm twisted around.
Very cautiously, Samantha crept up, unsheathing her claws as she tiptoed up on the man who had his back to her. She could see Tsuzuki's eyes following her, which apparently, tipped off the man in white. He whipped around so quickly, that Samantha tripped as she jumped backwards, finding herself facing a gun barrel.
The man in white stared for a moment at her, which gave Hisoka time enough to wrestle out of the grip and get a few steps away.
"A relative of yours, Tsuzuki-san?" He asked. Samantha glared and focused her eyes on the man's face.
"In your dreams, Muraki Kazutaka-san."
Muraki slowly turned his head back to stare at her, which gave Samantha the impression that she'd taken him off guard. And, given how the two other shinigami were staring at her, this seemed to be quite a feat.
"And thanks for staring at me, Tsuzuki- he wouldn't have known I was HERE if you'd not looked at me." She added, snarling at Tsuzuki. Tsuzuki made a noise and started to protest, before Hisoka cleared his throat, reminding them of their current situation.
"In any case, now that you've all met me, I'm going to take my leave for the day. I hope to see you both again very soon, bouya, Tsuzuki-san." And Muraki vanished.

"Muraki Kazutaka... you guys have known him for, going on four years now... and the fucker still hasn't died?" Samantha asked as they returned to the office. Tsuzuki raised an eyebrow at her language, but shrugged.
"More like he either narrowly avoids it, or keeps coming back to life." He confirmed. Samantha raised her eyebrows, and seemed to consider it.
"What about something like a stroke or a heart attack? Would he come back from those?" She asked. Hisoka didn't look at her as he replied.
"Just because we have experience with him doesn't mean we know everything about him."
Samantha didn't say a word as she picked up a bright red apple and bit into it.
A/N: If anyone's wondering, the apples aren't symbolic- They're a clue, possibly even foreshadowing.
