Chapter Twenty-Eight:
Kirika-chan:
-Kirika-chan-
I am loved. My circle gets bigger as time goes on. Mama, Papa, my
friends, Watari-san, Airi-mama, Tatsumi-san, Hisoka-san,
Hotaru-san, Daiyu, Mike-san, and everyone else. Now I have my
grandparents.
It feels surreal. What do you do after you realize how loved you
are?
My phone buzzed on my nightstand. I felt around for it under my
sheets.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Hey,” Nozomi said on the other line. I quickly sat up in bed.
“Nozomi!” I said.
“You busy today?” she asked.
“No…” I said. “Why?” Nozomi cleared her throat.
“I was wondering if we can hang out,” she said.
“Sure,” I said. “Where do you want to meet up?”
“The beach,” she said.
“Alright,” I said. “I'll meet you in a few minutes.”
“Cool,” she said. “See you then.” We hung up together. Oh crap! I
have to go get ready! I jump out of bed and hurried to the
bathroom.
When I got out of the shower, I had a new text.
Hm. I looked at the screen. Oh! It's from Akira. I instantly opened
the message.
“I'm heading out to Okinawa for the weekend. Going to get you
something really nice. :) See you Sunday. :)” he wrote. I smiled
and texted him back.
“Sweet! Have fun,” I wrote. I hit send and headed out the room.
--------
“Good morning, dear,” Papa said as I came into the kitchen.
“Morning,” I said.
“You're up early,” Mama said.
“Uh-huh,” I said. “I'm hanging out with Nozomi today.” Mama lowered
her chopsticks.
“I'm curious about something,” she said.
“What?” I asked.
“Your father and I have wondered what Nozomi-chan is to you,” she
said. I looked confused.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Are you just friends or more?” Mama asked. “If you don't mind us
asking.” I took a moment to think.
“I don't know,” I said. “I haven't given it much thought.”
“I see,” Mama said. “Are you packing a lunch?”
“No,” I said. I sat down with a breakfast bar in hand. Papa gave it
an odd look.
“Is that all you're eating?” he asked.
“Uh-huh,” I said.
“You sure you don't want me to make you sure breakfast?” he
asked.
“No, I'm good,” I said. Mama looked relived. Papa pouted.
“Aw, Kirika-chan,” he whimpered.
“I'll go get something on the way,” I said. Papa sighed.
“Fine,” he said. I finished my bar.
“Thanks for breakfast,” I said. I bowed and stood up.
“I'm leaving now,” I said.
“Take care,” Mama said.
“Have fun,” Papa said.
“Okay,” I said. I bowed and headed out.
I am loved. My circle is always around me. I am Kirika-chan. And
this is my life.
