Yugi- Dead Or Alive Volleyball Player?!
By: DJ Rodriguez
(Author's Notes: Its good see at least one review, because I get the feeling that this fanfic is not as popular with some of the fans/readers out there.
Yugi: It's alright. At least you have Anime26angel reviewing, and leaving very good reviews at that!
Darien: You're right, Yugi. Heh, Anime and Laga really got a thing for you in their reviews. Peorth has a crush on Seto, but she still likes you. So, it's cool.
DJ: Yep! Listen, please recommend this fanfic to anyone out there! I would like to hear from more people.
Now, on with the fanfic!)
Chapter 9
Christie walked beside Yugi, who was very amazed on the various fauna and flora that flourished in the jungle. Yellow, red, pink, blue, and white flowers seemed to be everywhere. Vines hung from the branches, giving off a mysterious quality. The jungle seemed to be thriving wonderfully. Yugi climbed up a large tree branch that was level enough, and sat on hit. He was now eye-to-eye with Christie. "Okay, little man. Anything you care to say to me?", she inquired plainly. Her job as an assassin made it possible for her to see through people. Yugi simply smiled and replied, "I just want to talk, that's all.". Fortunately, Yugi had a talent similar to Christie. He could see the good in seemingly evil people, and be able to bring it out. "Well, I do have a question for you.", he said. Christie leaned on the branch he was sitting on and gave him her attention. "What is it?", she inquired. Yugi asked, "How come you became an assassin? And why?". Christie was a bit surprised that Yugi would ask a question like that. She composed herself and started to tell her story. She started, "I was raised by a wealthy family in Britain, but it went downhill from there when I turned 15. I was recruited by a mysterious agency, and trained to become an assassin.". She then paused for a moment, really thinking if she should tell Yugi some more. 'I'm worried that he might hate me… Wait! Why am I thinking like this?! That's never happened to me before!', she thought. She then looked at Yugi, and stared deep into his violet eyes. She sighed when he saw the puzzled look on his face, making her think that he was naïve. She continued, "I… carried out a lot of jobs. I killed a lot of people, by the request of the agency and money.". She looked away, afraid Yugi might lash out at her.
Yugi shook his head, and a small, sad smile was on his face. "I am sorry about that.", he told her gently. She looked up at him in surprise. 'He's not mad or anything?! Anyone of his age hearing this should have been storming out of here right now?! Why… isn't he?!', she thought. He asked softly, "Did you ever regret killing some of your targets?". She looked away slightly, her mind now flooding with the people she had killed. Some had families and friends, who were now sad and depressed because of what she had done. She nodded her head slightly and stated in the same quiet tone as Yugi, "Yes, I did. I still do." He smiled slightly and said, "You seem like a very nice and brave woman. I'm sure you can use your talents to accomplish other things rather then killing people.". Christie looked at him as if he had grown another limb. "What are you getting at, Yugi?", she asked suspiciously. Yugi simply replied, "What I'm saying is that there is still hope for you, Christie. You can turn your life around, and do something better then what you are doing now.". Christie was certainly shocked at Yugi's honesty and frankness. Yugi added, "I see that you are a good woman, and a strong one too. You are made of better stock then what others give you credit for. I know that there is hope for you to become better then what you are now.". Christie was really dumbfounded by his declaration. She looked at his face and eyes, trying to see if he was joking or not just to make her feel better. Alas, she did not find a hint of deceit in his looks and eyes. 'Wow, what a kid! Maybe… he is right. I mean, I really don't like to kill. I thought it was necessary to do so to stay alive and get by. Now because of this kid… I think I can start over.', she thought. A small, genuine smile spread on her face as she looked at the small youth. "Thanks, Yugi.", she said. She told him that she would think a lot on what he said, and that was good enough for him.
Yugi was about to jump off, when Christie's eyes narrowed and a serious expression was on her face. "Yugi. Do not move.", she said in a soft, but commanding voice. Yugi was perplexed by this, but did as he was told. Christie's left hand slowly reached out, and broke off a piece of wood from a nearby fallen log. She shaped it, now looking sharp and pointy, like a primitive weapon. She slowly stalked towards Yugi, her yellow eyes never leaving his violet ones. 'What is she doing?', he thought. Her left hand raised slowly upward high, like she was going to stab him! Although he was a bit scared, he didn't show it. 'I trust her.', he told himself. When Christie was a mere few centimeters near him, their faces almost touching, that is when her arm thrusted down on Yugi's right side. It landed near a clump of leaves, and when she pulled out her weapon slowly, Yugi saw a huge, black scorpion skewered on the stick! "Whoa!", Yugi breathed out softly as he saw the thing squirm with the last few breathes of life it had. He jumped down, landing with a soft 'plop' as his feet touched the ground. He asked Christie on what it was. She told him in a monotone voice, "It's a Black Scorpion. Its sting is quite painful, and poisonous.". Yugi smiled and thanked his rescuer. Christie smiled right back at him, and said it was no problem. She decided to show the rest on her find, and that is when she and Yugi decided to head back to the beach. 'Yugi thinks it's a native of this island. But, this type of scorpion only exists and thrives in the deserts of Arizona. So, it couldn't have come from here. Someone brought it here… and I have a hunch on who it is.', she thought as she gripped the stick tightly and angrily. I think we all know on the person she suspects, don't you?
Kasumi and the rest were soaking up the sun, talking about both Duel Monsters, each other's past, and Yugi. Soon, they saw the two coming out. "Say, doesn't Christie look different to you?", Lisa asked as she examined the white-haired assassin. Indeed, the other girls also noticed a change in the 24-year old woman. "She seems… more at peace with herself.", Ayane commented. Yes, Christie was calm. She was at peace with herself then she had ever been in a long time. The two went up and greeted the others. "So, what did you guys talk about?", Tina asked. Christie smiled mysteriously, as did Yugi. The woman asked her new friend, "Yugi, mind if I talk with these ladies alone?". He nodded, saying he understood. "I'm going to change into my trunks, then go for a quick swim. See ya later!", he said as he soon took off and rushed towards the hotel. "Wait! Yugi, I'm coming with you!", she called out. She was worried about Yugi's safety, and he accepted her company. Hitomi broke away from the group, and the two teenagers walked back towards the hotel. Christie and the others were now huddled together in a tight group. "Christie, why the big secrecy?", Kasumi inquired. The white-haired beauty slowly took out her left arm, which she had hidden behind her back, and showed them all the scorpion. "What the?!", Helena exclaimed as they all gasped in surprise. Christie told them everything; what Yugi told her, and also on how she skewered the large insect. "It was very close to stinging Yugi's right hand. If it had stung him, the poison in the stinger would have killed him in ten minutes. It is that lethal.", she told them. They were very much relived that Christie had saved Yugi's life! "But, a scorpion like that can't live in this environment, right?", Lei Fang inquired shakily. The thought of Yugi dead shook them at the core. Christie nodded grimly and replied, "Correct. I think someone set this scorpion at the precise place where Yugi was sitting at. Take a guess on who.".
The ladies were now seething greatly. 'How… dare he!!', they all thought towards the person known as Zack. "I think you are right, Christie. I think Zack is the one who did this!", Helena exclaimed angrily. Lisa added with the same tone, "I agree. He's the only one able to transport anything on and/or off this island.". Kasumi was ready to go out, and throttle Zack! 'Normally, I'm a nice person and don't like to harm anyone. But, I'll make an exception for Zack!', she thought. Ayane, Lei Fang, and even Lisa and Helena wanted to beat Zack to a bloody pulp! "That's why you sent Yugi away, so he wouldn't be upset at this news.", Ayane stated. Christie nodded and replied, "You're right. He would see that Zack's booby traps were meant for him, and he would get off the island to protect us. He wouldn't want us to get hurt just because something was meant for him.". Kasumi inquired, "How do you know he'll do that?". Christie smiled slightly and said, "I don't know, exactly. It's just that… I feel he'll do anything to keep anyone safe.". Helena smiled also and agreed with her, "I know what you mean. I also feel this as well. He'll take on any challenge, trap, or burden, no matter how big it is for him… just to keep his friends safe and happy.". They all agreed on that. After a few moments of indulging in their thoughts about the tri-colored young man, they snapped out of it. "Christie, what shall we do now?", Tina asked. Christie answered, "Simple. We keep an eye on Yugi, twenty-four seven! We can't risk losing Yugi!". Lei Fang added, "I agree. Yugi has an innocence and attitude, that must be protected at all cost.". Thus, a pact was made. Until the vacation was over, they were going to be Yugi's secret guardian angels.
Fifteen minutes later, Yugi and Hitomi had returned. The young man was carrying a towel, his Side Pack with his Duel Monster cards in it, and wearing his trunks. "Sorry it took so long.", he told the girls. They all smiled at him, and said it was no problem. "Yugi, care to go swimming with me?", Tina asked. Yugi nodded his head at the busty beauty, and soon set up his towel near the shore and laid his pack down on it. After that, he and the blonde bombshell ran towards the water. They jumped in, laughing and splashing each other about. Kasumi and Lisa went to Yugi's pack, opened it, and took out some of the cards. Yugi said earlier that it was okay for them to open it and play with the cards any time they wanted to. They looked at them, still intrigued by the game. Ayane and Helena decided to do some warm-up moves of their respective styles, both looking and moving gracefully and fluidly. Christie went back to the jungle to bury the scorpion deep underground. Lei Fang informed Hitomi and everything, and the high school beauty also agreed to protect Yugi at all cost.
Deep under the sea, Yugi and Tina were diving and looking around the beautiful cerulean kingdom. The water was crystal clear, and no salt deposits were in it. Thus, Yugi could open his eyes and not be stung by salt. He was totally blown away by what he saw. Coral reefs of exquisite beauty and radiance were scattered everywhere, giving off a serene and peaceful look. Fish of many sizes and color were swimming about in groups, making it so a living rainbow was dwelling in the beautiful scenery. Baby hammerhead sharks swum by, but paid no attention to the human visitors. Yugi was entranced by this place, and even more so when she saw Tina swim by. She swam like a graceful ballerina, as if she was dancing on air. 'Not even a mermaid could compare to her.', he thought. Suddenly, they both realized that they were running out of air. Swimming upward, the two broke the surface and gasped for air. Yugi looked at the smiling blonde, and he blushed slightly. "You were wonderful down there, Tina! You swam like a mermaid! It was incredible!", he told her. Her smile widened slightly and replied, "Thank you. I love to swim, so I practice a lot. I'm getting good at it.". Seeing that it was late afternoon, the two swam back to meet the others.
~Back at Zack's Suite~
Zack was eating lunch in the living room, seeing the entire event before him. He was mad when his trap failed, yes. But, he was still determined to send Yugi away… dead or alive. "Heh, you got passed this one because of Christie, Yugi. But, let me tell you something. This dude here is not going to rest until you are off of this island!", he vowed. Just then, he heard a knock at the door. He stood up, composed himself, and slicked back his white hair. "It looks like she's on time.", he said to himself as he walked towards the door. He opened it, and in the doorway stood a sexy, beautiful woman! Her skin was like Zack's, light black. She had white, shoulder-length hair, yellow eyes, and also a good figure to boot! She was wearing a purple dress, and also wearing some expensive jewelry. "Hey, Zack.", she said. Zack grinned and replied, "Hey, Niki. Welcome to my island.". The woman entered, and Zack closed the door. He invited his girlfriend over to see the island, and also have a good time. 'I won't let her see the other girls. They might tell her everything.', he thought.
~In Domino City~
Seto was in his limo, going towards the Domino City Harbor. He had seen the entire scene as well, thanks to Peorth and Laga's computer program babes. The two ladies had cracked into the hidden cameras that Zack placed on the island, and saw the scene in the jungle and beach. "Zack must be getting pretty desperate if he pulled a trap like that.", he muttered to himself. 'Yugi is now in for one heck of a ride, if Zack is now at this level.', he thought. Peorth and Laga were very much livid! Both of them were appalled on how low Zack went. "That little imp! If only I can get my hands on him…", Peorth growled out in anger. Laga, however, was much more angry then that! She had her mallet out, and was dying to hit Zack with it. "Let me at him!! Let me at him!! I'll show him for trying to kill my Yugi-kun!!", she exclaimed out loud. Seto did the next best thing for them, he put in a virtual image of Zack. The two ladies looked at the guy, bloody murder pouring out from their eyes. "YOU… SICK… PSYCHO!!!", the two ladies yelled out loud in fury. Anime raised her mallet high, prepared to pound Zack in the ground like nail! Peorth took out her whip, and cracked it viciously in the air. VR Zack looked at these two women… and ran off like crazy to get away from them! "COME BACK HERE, COWARD!!!", they yelled out as they chased him. Seto chuckled at their antics, then turned back to the task at hand. "I got to get to the harbor, and make sure that Yami and the others don't use one of Duke's yachts to go to that island.", he told himself.
Duke and the others arrived at the harbor, very much anxious to take off and bring Yugi back to Domino City. "Which yacht of yours are we going to take, Duke?", Joey asked. The Dungeon Dice master replied, "The fastest one called The Sword Jeff. It's the fastest one I got, and the most expensive one too.". They went to Dock Garage #22, and entered the building. What they saw puzzled and confused them all. The ship was being taken apart piece-by-piece, crewmen lifting the large pieces of metal via cranes and also taking the engine part. "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?!", Duke demanded out loud. A foremen, an old Japanese male in his late 40's, walked to him and asked, "May I be of assistance, sir?". Duke then demanded hotly on what he and his crew were doing. The foreman answered simply, "Seto Kaiba ordered it to be done. Apparently, he wants to inspect all of your yachts to make sure that they are in good order.". This surprised everyone indeed. "How long until the repairs are complete?", Duke inquired. The foreman looked over the papers he was carrying for a moment, then answered, "About five or six days, tops.". Everyone, except for Serenity, groaned at this. "Thanks for the info.", Duke said plainly as he and the rest left the building. 'Well, at least Yugi can still be on that vacation of his.', Serenity thought. Little did she realize, but she, Cas, Seto, the DOA girls, Laga, and Peroth were going to pulled into one heck of an adventure to protect Yugi!
(Author's Notes: Sorry for slight delay. College is going to be a bit tougher this year, but I think I'll manage. Thanks to all out there that reviewed! I love and cherish each and every one of them!
Yugi: (Sigh of relief) So, I was almost killed here…
Darien: Yes, a venom of a very poisonous scorpion nearly did kill you. Fortunately, Christie was there to save you from certain death.
Yugi: I know. Thanks, Christie! (Gives her big hug) I suppose that I'm going to get to know the others later on, and try to make an impact on their lives?
DJ: (Smiles) Yep! Now, a question to all those Yugi fangirls out there: What do you think on what Yugi told Christie? Do you really think Yugi is right about Christie? Was he foolish, or right?
Darien: To everyone else: What do you think of Zack's latest trap? What do you think the DOA girls would do, had Zack's plan worked? What would you do to Zack?
R&R, no flames, and enjoy!)
