Across The Stars

Chapter 5: What happens in the hospital stays in the hospital?

~Max's P.o.V.~

"S-she's suffering from third degree burns, extreme loss of blood, broken leg and arm, drug overdose a-and...they say she probably won't talk for awhile..." a faraway voice said. I struggled to open my eyes but my eyelids felt so heavy... "THEY CAN TREAT HER! HELP HER! YOU'RE DOCTORS!" a girl, Kim I think, yelled. "M-ma'am, we're doing our best. We can't drug her anymore..." the first voice replied timidly. A door slammed as I opened my eyes. Flourescent light temporarily blinded me as I looked around the room. "Oh my God, she's awake!" Kim yelled, hugging me tightly. I let out a small scream of pain and looked down at my arms. They were bandaged up. Kim released me quickly and let me look around the room. Meg and Sarah shared a chair in the corner, both of them staring at me. Sarah let out a small gasp as her eyes scanned my face and she walked across the room to Will, who embraced her. Jack was leaning against the wall beside Meg's chair, his hat tipped down as he muttered,"Mornin' lass..." softly. Kaiba was standing next to the heavy breathing Kim. I leaned back on my pillows and stared out the window, not knowing what to say if I even had the will to speak right now...

"SIR YOU CAN'T GO IN THERE!" someone yelled down the hall, bringing all of us back to our senses. Meg nearly fell out of her chair and Jack jumped slightly, his hat falling to the ground. Will and Sarah released each other and Kim and Kaiba sort of seemed like they were going to kill whoever walked through the door. Kim clenched her hands into fists and winced. That's when I realized she had bandages loosely wrapped around her hands as well...and as Kaiba turned his head, I saw that the left side of his face was scarred and bruised rather badly. He turned his face and met my eyes, shaking his head,"Not your fault..." he said. I lowered my eyes.

And none other than InuYasha burst through the door...

And Kim lunged,"YOU FUCKING BASTARD!" she screamed,"LOOK WHAT YOU CAUSED TO HER!" Kaiba held her back easily and her eyes burned with hatred and anger as InuYasha walked to my bed and took my hand gently, stroking it. I didn't meet his eyes as he whispered,"I'm so sorry...Maxine...look at me, just look please..." Jack spoke up,"Um...I'm...hungry...Meg will you--" Meg glared,"Yea, whatever...c'mon Sarah..." she said. Will followed Sarah and the four of them left.

Kim continued her death glare on InuYasha as he looked at me with his amber-ish opticks. "Kim..." Kaiba said, taking her hand,"Would you want Maxine here right now if it was you and me?" Kim stuttered, hesitating,"Yes!..." she started,"...no..." she mumbled, sighing. She looked straight at InuYasha,"Lay a hand on her..." she said, letting her sentence drift as she walked out of the room with Kaiba.

"I'm sorry...I...I didn't think he'd go after you..." InuYasha whispered. I met his eyes but didn't speak. He sighed and released my hand, pacing the room,"I didn't think he'd go that far...he's gotten you before...but before I left you, I left a barrier, so to speak...I didn't think he could hurt you or would even try...I just...I love you...and I didn't think it would happen..." he rambled on until I grabbed his hand and pulled him down, kissing him lightly. He looked startled as I struggled for words,"I...I...l-love y-you t-t-too...Inu...Y-Yasha...I know I-I'm n-not t-too n-n-nice l-l-looking r-right now e-either...b-but...i-it w-was the on-only way I c-could shut y-you u-u-up..." I said haltingly. It took every cell in my body to say that small sentence. I wouldn't be speaking for awhile just because of what Naraku did to me...I didn't even know what he did to me...

InuYasha smiled lightly and leaned down, whispering in my ear,"You're the most beautiful girl in the world and I wouldn't change you, hurt or not, for anything in the world...I love you so goddamn much, Maxine..." he kissed me deeply now...
