Chapter 6: A few more explanations, a villain, and a mystery.

~Maxine’s P.o.V.~
~1 month later…~
I sat up quickly, staring straight ahead in the darkness, clutching my womb. That nightmare had started the day after I’d been released from the hospital, about 3 weeks ago, and constantly returned.
After Kaiba had explained to us that this witch would do anything to take his soul, along with InuYasha’s and Jack’s, we’d all been a bit weary; but these nightmares were terrifying me. Every night, I heard a child, screaming, and a woman laughing hideously.

“She has our souls. That was the deal so we could remain here with you. But we began to fade..she knew it would happen, so I bargained my heart, which was the key component to mine and Kim’s relationship.. Kim still has my heart, because it’s a part of her, so I didn’t keep my part of the deal. The witch doesn’t want our souls anymore, because they’re fading just by being apart from our hearts, which belong to you three; so we’re pointless to her, unless we’re dead. If we die, you three are as good as dead because we share our hearts with you.. If we die, she not only gains our hearts and full souls, but your hearts as well. Hearts of pure love.. the most valuable possession she can have..besides one thing.”

I’d asked what that one other thing could be, to save us all from a possible hell that we’d have to face, dealing with this witch.
“..a child born of true love..”
Kaiba’s explanation kept going through my head as my stomach gave a lurch and I ran for the bathroom, flinging the toilet seat open and vomiting. I stood stooped over the toilet, trying not to cry, as InuYasha came in tiredly. He knelt down beside me and lovingly held back my hair, “Can I get you some apple juice, love?” he whispered, looking at me worriedly, “You look.. worse.”
“No, I’ll be okay. Heh, bound to happen..morning sickness..all day sickness, whatever you want to call it.”
“No, but you look.. like you’ve seen a ghost or something.” He said gently, dampening a washcloth with cool water and laying it on the back of my neck. I leaned against him a bit and sighed, shaking my head as he ran his fingers through my hair, his other hand laying over the top of mine on my womb, “You seem too sick though, too tired.. maybe we need to go in for a check-up early this time?”
“No,” I said sternly, “I’m fine, and so is the baby.”
“Maxine.. you can’t be stubborn in this case. It’s not just your life,” he said, shaking his head.
“You think I don’t know that?” I said, a bit angrily, pushing him away and standing up, walking from the bathroom. He sighed and followed me into our bedroom as I let myself collapse onto the bed. He kneeled down on the bed beside me and took both my hands, looking down at me, his silvery hair hanging in his face, “What Kaiba said.. it doesn’t have to be true.”
The tone of his voice just told me he was trying to convince himself.
“I’m scared…” I whispered and he pulled me up, hugging me to his chest. “I know.” He kissed me softly on the lips as I trembled in his arms. We both didn’t want to lose this baby.. our child..
1/2 hour later, Kaiba and Kim’s place, Meg’s P.o.V.
“Okay, you bloody card player, all this time has passed and you STILL HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO TELL ME WHO THE FUCK TRIED TO KILL ME AND ME LOVER!” I shouted.
Loudly.
“Meaghan, please…” Kaiba said in a bit of a nervous tone as Kim tried to control me. I shoved her off my shoulder and pointed at Kaiba, “Okay, no please nothing. My husband is STILL suffering from injuries and need I remind you how I GOT SHOT IN THE FUCKING HEAD?!”
“Meg, maybe if you..” Kim started, as Maxine and InuYasha called from the front door and walked into the living room.
“MAYBE IF I WHAT?!” I screamed, glaring at her.
“Maybe if you calm down?” Maxine suggested, “Hey Kim, Jack, Kaiba..”
Jack waved slightly from where he sat on an armchair. He was still a bit hurt, and every night, even though he tried to hide it from me, I watched as he changed his bloody bandages. It’d been over a month and the injury to his arm, leg, and stomach hadn’t improved. The only thing that had gotten better was the fact that he no longer had a black eye.
“Love, ye need to calm down..” Jack said softly, pulling gently at my hand. I looked down at where he sat on the armchair and he pulled me down into his lap, flinching a bit, his other hand jumping to his side. I nearly cried, but began to get up, but he wrapped his arm around my waist, keeping me in his grip. “Jack, you’re still hurt..” I said softly, trying not to cry. He shook his head lightly, putting on a smile for my sake, “No, love, I’m alright. Savvy?”
I sighed and shrugged, kissing him softly, but shooting Kaiba a nasty glance.
“So….” Maxine mumbled, slumping down on the floor, InuYasha following suit, “Explanations? I thought you heard something new?”
Kaiba nodded lightly as I rested my head on Jack’s shoulder, to prevent it from throbbing. The doctor’s told me to ‘keep out of situations that cause headaches’ and already I’d disobeyed. Being around a complete idiot, like Kaiba, was going to kill me.
“…Maxine, you’ve been having dreams?” Kaiba started.
“What does that have to do with anything?” I snapped. Kaiba sighed and went on, “..they’ll be after you next, Maxine, though I’ve no idea why they’re taking so long. Though, I might be mistaken, but I’m positive that she’ll go after that child..”
“Why though? I mean, have you..” Maxine started, hesitating.
“Have you spoken to this bitch witch?” I asked.
Kaiba nodded hesitantly, glancing at Kim who perked a brow, “You didn’t tell me this,” she said softly. “I didn’t know how,” he said simply.
“Why not, ‘Hey Kim, I talked to the witch girl. She wants us all dead, and she’s about to kill your sister and your little unborn niece or nephew’?” I snapped. I was in a short fused mood. Kaiba wasn’t offering us any real information, “You do realize that all of our lives are on the line. And I KNOW you know who tried to kill Jack and I. So spill, already, Kaiba, because frankly I’m getting pissed.”
“I didn’t know at first, but I do now. She’s working with..” he stopped, sighing, “She’s working with Davey Jones.. and Sesshoumaru as well.”
“My brother is involved?” InuYasha said suddenly, his ears perking up, his eyes glazing over with anger. Kaiba gave a small nod.
Jack perked up a bit too, “Davey Jones? He’s dead.”
“He’s working with this witch, so I suppose he struck up some kind of a deal,” Kaiba replied.
I was about to ask another question when another voice joined in the conversation, “Aye, I kill Jack Sparrow, gather his soul, and I live.. though, if I kill of ye and bring back the bloody child, I regain me control over the seas..”
Jack jumped up, just after I did luckily. InuYasha grabbed hold of Maxine’s hand and led her away, I saw out of the corner of my eye. But Jones had an evil smirk on his face, only looking at Jack, “Now, it would give me great satisfaction to do away with just ye, Jack Sparrow, but how I would love to see the look on yer face as all of yer companions are slaughtered before ye die.”
Kaiba was holding Kim’s hand and trying to catch my eye, but I ignored him, knowing he wanted to run. I would not leave Jack alone.
“You’ll die first, Jones,” I said harshly. He chortled and shifted his eyes to meet mine. I didn’t even blink as he spoke, “Brave ye are, dear girl. I expected ye to die the first time, but this time will be a lot less painful.. ye’ll be the first, I think.. How either of ye escaped the Reaper, I will never know, but ye WILL die this time..”
“Then try,” Jack said in a violent voice, gripping my hand tightly, leaning close to my ear, “..run..”
I looked at him and shook my head, but he pushed me away and unsheathed his sword that he’d been keeping close for the past month.
“Run, Meaghan,” he repeated, “If you love, ye will run without looking back.”
Without another thought, I obeyed, though I felt it killing me inside instantly, running to the car outside. As soon as I was out the door, however, I felt a cloth covering my mouth and nose, a stench filling my nose instantly as I tried to scream, my vision becoming cloudy as I heard laughing ring in my ears.
Then there was nothing.
~Kim’s P.o.V.~
Kaiba had dragged me out of the room, downstairs to the dark basement, where Maxine and InuYasha soon joined us. “What the hell is go--“ InuYasha started before something hit him in the dark. Maxine screamed, grabbing for my hand. I clenched it tightly as Kaiba pushed me against the wall, covering the both of us as we listened to the struggle, then I felt my hand slip from Maxine’s, Kaiba’s body no longer pressed against mine.
Nothing.


~Kaiba’s P.o.V.~
I awoke, who knows how long I’d been out. I struggled to lift my head but felt something crush down against it. “Seto Kaiba, we meet again,” a harsh, but familiar female voice said. “K-Kim? What are you talking about?” I said, my eyes adjusting to the dim light. Female laughter echoed through the chamber, as if split into three separate voices. “Maxine, Kim?” I said, hesitantly. The pressure was lifted from my head as I felt someone grab the scruff of my neck, pulling me up and slamming me against a hard, cold, stone chair. Instantly, chains seemed to snake themselves around my ankles, wrists, and neck; binding me to the chair. I looked up and saw her.. the witch. The Dimension Witch.
“You’ve run out of time, Seto Kaiba,” she said, once again as if three voices were speaking. That’s when I realized.. Kim and Maxine were speaking as well, as if..
“You possessed them,” I said softly.
She laughed evilly, her amber eyes gleaming with amusement, “Very good, Seto. I always knew you were intelligent.”
“So now you must make a decision,” Kim said, with the witch’s voice.
“Choose your love, and she dies…” Maxine said softly, in the same voice as she stepped over behind Kim, wrapping her fingers around Kim’s throat, beginning to cut off her air, as she struggled to speak herself.
“Or choose her friends and her unborn godchild and be away from her for the rest of your life..” Kim said, in the witch’s voice.
“Th-that’s impossible to choose between!” I cried out angrily, glaring at the witch. She stood up and rushed forward, wrapping her fingers around my neck, digging her claws into it as she laughed evilly, “Either way, you lose her, and she’s your life.. you’ve made a pathetic human your entire life, Seto Kaiba. Perhaps, you are not as intelligent as I thought.”
“I need her..” I whispered.
“You need to decide, now, or I will take matters into my own hands,” She spoke carefully, almost looking at me with pity, her cat-like ears perking up a bit as she leaned in close, her silver hair falling in her face, “Decide, or I will for you.. Decide, or I will give you your last kiss, Seto Kaiba.”
I turned my head away, not wanting to meet those amber optics, “…you already have sentenced me to death, Catalina…”
