Behind the Double Mirrors
Chapter 7: Betrayal. Trapped. Death. Love.
{Jack's P.o.V.}
I'd heard the scream from downstairs. Maxine and Kim. Then the short, cut-off scream from outside. Meaghan. My sword was drawn and I lunged towards Jones angrily…just as I felt the cold blade slip through my stomach from the back. It caught me short and I fell to my knees, looking up at my attacker who'd walked to the front of me. But he wouldn't look back at me, instead he glared at Jones.
“Our bargain?” he said in a quiet, polite voice. Easily recognizable, talking like a gentleman.
But gentlemen, nor pirates, betray a comrade. I clutched my stomach, unable to speak, blood covering my hand.
“In all due time, whelp,” Jones replied shortly, his tentacles making their familiar squishy sound.
“Do not call me that, Jones, or I swear..”
“You'll kill me? Like I did your father, eh?”
“...our bargain, Jones. Now.”
“Bargained.. a comrade's life.. and his love.. did you..?” I managed to say. The familiar man looked back, his eyes meeting mine in an almost sad way.
“You stab me in the back, I stab you in the back, Jack…” he replied, “You taught me one thing, `there are no heroes among pirates.'”
“No heroes, but comrades there are…” I gasped.
“What Jones has offered me is greater than YOUR friendship, Jack Sparrow…”
“Then you were never my friend, Mr. Turner.”
{Meg's P.o.V.}
I opened my eyes. It must've been hours later. My head pounded. My body ached. And the darkness…
That's when I completely comprehended my situation. I began to hyperventilate. I was in a trunk-case type thing. No longer than Kim, which made my legs scrunch up, my knees scraping the top.
Inside this trunk, I wasn't alone though.
I noticed then that there was an itch on my arm. That creepy-crawly feeling you get when something is crawling up your arm.
It took me less than a second to realize what was swarming on my body.
Spiders.
I gasped and started screaming, banging my fists against the top of the chest, crying and sobbing, tears streaking down my face.
It took me another few minutes to analyze the fact that my screams and banging were oddly muffled. Like cannon-shots were when you were underwater…
I was underwater. In a chest-trunk. Covered in spiders.
I couldn't even scream anymore, I just tried not to panic or breathe hard, picking the spider from my arm, nearly crying. I reached up to the side of my head and felt blood trickling from where I'd been shot. The hair had grown back there, from where they had to remove it to go through surgery. I'd cut it, shoulder-length with short layers, so the `haircut' wasn't nearly as noticeable.
But now my main concern was not how my hair looked, but rather that I was bleeding again. Somehow, the wound had re-opened. Brushing my fingers over the wet, sticky, bloody mess of my hair, I felt the hole.
And the spider..that was sitting there, ready to strike.
But it wasn't waiting for my finger or hand to bite. It was…
“…inside…” I breathed.
{InuYasha's P.o.V.}
“Wake up,” a voice said softly near my ear, “You're alive and safe now..”. I jumped awake, staring the speaker in the eyes.
Those eyes. Those brown eyes. Dark brown-black hair. That sweet, shy smile. That..sometimes sweet voice.
“K-Kagome?” I breathed. I was laying on her bed, sunlight pouring through the window of her bedroom. What time was it? It must've been a good long time if there was morning light coming through the window.
And…
“Fuck!” I shouted, sitting up abruptly, “How the hell did I get here?! I'm halfway across the world! Maxine.. oh gods.. Maxine…”
Kagome laid her hand gently on my arm, pressing the other hand against my chest and pushing me down, “Kouga says..she's dead.” She said softly.
“…no…” I whispered, then louder, “SHE IS NOT!” I grabbed her wrist and jumped up, holding her wrist tightly and leaning in close to her face, “SHE IS NOT!” I repeated.
She whimpered slightly, squirming her hand, tears coming to her eyes, “She is…” she said softly, “He brought you here. He told me… he saw it… Sesshoumaru…”
“SESSHOUMARU WHAT?!” I screamed in her face.
“He killed her. Took your child. Let her die.”
“…no. NO! Kagome, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. MAXINE IS NOT DEAD!”
“Why do you care, InuYasha?! You left me, forgot about ME, why can't you forget HER?!”
I stared at her, crying there, her wrist hanging limply in my grasp.
And for once in my life, I didn't know what to say to her. Why did I forget her so easily, and not Maxine?
“…because I suppose he loves her, Kagome…” another voice said, from the window. I glanced over, at Kouga.
My eyes narrowed and I released Kagome's wrist, lunging at him, my hands grasping his throat, “YOU! YOU NEARLY KILLED HER AT THE HOSPITAL!” I shouted, tightening my grip as he simply laughed, “I was PROTECTING you, you stupid bastard dog.”
“YOU ATTACKED ME!”
“There was something else there, something you couldn't see. Sesshoumaru had told me, so I tried to assist in helping you.” He spoke with ease, his strength matching mine as he held my hands from his neck.
“SESSHOUMARU KILLED MAXINE AND OUR CHILD!”
“…they are as good as dead anyway, InuYasha… she wants them both. Your brother, he tried to hold her off, but she tricked him…she'd try to kill Maxine, but Sesshoumaru was defending her. Catalina used him… She was desperate to get your child and kill your love…”
“SHE?! WHO IS SHE?!”
“Stop screaming, you stupid dog!” he snapped, “The Dimensional Witch. Catalina. Ah yes, you recognize the name, don't you?” He noticed the look of shock on my face.
“Cat…” I whispered, the long-forgotten name.
“Old loves never die, InuYasha,” Kagome said softly.
{Kaiba's P.o.V.}
Her lips pressed against mine, meeting in a kiss.
That's when I heard the scream of rage, felt the blood splatter across my face.
Kim had stabbed her, Catalina, in the stomach.
But it had no effect. “A moment I do not pay attention to the possessed and their souls fight back,” Catalina said softly, touching her stomach where a gaping, bleeding hole freely flowed.
She turned around, grabbing Kim around the neck within a half a second, throwing Kim against the wall.
She fell limply, sagging to the floor.
I had no time to react though, as Catalina snapped her fingers and another figure entered the dark chamber.
InuYasha's brother, Sesshoumaru.
“I will not destroy that..thing,” he said instantly. I glared at him, thinking he meant me.
“Do it,” she said sternly, glaring at him, her eyes suddenly glazing with literal red anger.
“I despise my younger brother, but I refuse to kill an unborn child…even if I do hate the human that carries it,” he said, walking close to the still-standing Maxine. Her eyes looked distant and she stood like a statue, still captured under the possessiveness of Catalina. His fingers ran through her hair, tracing her face.
“Such a beautiful human… my brother has finally made a wise choice. He did not choose the priestess, nor her annoyance of a reincarnate. He chose a respectable young woman, though human, who is strong and defiant…”
“Such a shame…”
“Why a shame?” he said, looking up at her.
“Because you will have to kill her,” she replied, lunging at him and grabbing his wrist, piercing his flesh with her claws.
He gave out a yell as I attempted the free myself, shifting my eyes to the still form of Kim.
His eyes turned a dim, misty hue and his fingers entwined around Maxine's throat. She seemed to snap out of her hypnotized state and instantly began to struggle, sputtering out words, her eyes locking onto mine.
Within the last moments, Sesshoumaru's hand gored into her womb, tearing out the small, partially formed child, and Maxine's eyes went unblinking. He dropped her and she crumbled, but her eyes remained locked with mine, unblinking and lifeless.
{Yea…more on all of this in the next chapter. O.o;}
