~Kim’s P.o.V.~
I woke up groggily, clinging to the soft pillow. The nightmare had been horrible. Maxine… and my niece, dead. Meg.. trapped. When I opened my eyes fully, I knew it hadn’t been a nightmare. But at the same time, sleeping next to Seto again.. it must’ve been a dream.
“Seto?” I whispered nervously. He tiredly opened one eye slightly and groaned, “…is she..?”
“I… I don’t know. Dear Ra, what time is it? How long have we been lying here..?” He asked, sitting up in the bed. I sat up as well, groping for my glasses before realizing, as the room came into clear view, that we were in his manor.
“What does this mean?” I asked softly. “I…I don’t know,” he replied.
“Are we free? What about Maxine and Meg.. Seto, I had the most horrible dream, they all died… then there was a battle, some type of war.”
His face clouded over with fear, “She’s.. dead then.. but not ‘dead’…” he said softly.
“How can she be dead, but not ‘dead’ dead?” I asked. “I…I’m not quite sure. We have to get out of here though, we have to track them all down,” he replied as he whipped out his cell phone and began speaking in rapid Japanese.
I slid out of the bed and walked to the familiar adjoining bathroom, splashing cold water on my face and opening the cabinet to find things as I left them… my hairbrush, few necessities and other such things. I ran my finger across them, wondering why Seto never thought to get rid of things like this.
“I… I wanted you to come home again with me… I had it stuck in my head that we’d get over the argument…” Seto said, walking up behind me, as if reading my thoughts. I turned around and smiled slightly, “Regardless of the fact that it wasn’t something to just ‘get over,’ I’m glad you kept these things…my things…here. It gives me hope…” I said, letting myself rest in his embrace, “Did you find anything out?”
“The Kaiba Corp branch is searching Tokyo now, as they think that’s where ‘two dog men and a round-stomached girl’ were last seen,” he replied. I nodded slowly, “Can we go then? I won’t be relaxed until I see Maxine, to know she’s alright, and we find Meg and Jack…”
“I already have a plane waiting,” he replied, brushing back my hair and kissing my forehead.
“Thank you,” I whispered.
“I… I love you. I’d do anything for you,” he replied. My cheeks flushed lightly pink, but I did not say anything as he took my hand and led me downstairs, where a limo was already waiting.

~Maxine’s P.o.V.~
I walked between Sesshoumaru and InuYasha, holding my lover’s hand. They were explaining everything as much as possible, but I still didn’t understand one thing.
“InuYasha…” I began, “If you were with Kagome.. did…anything happen?”
Him and his brother exchanged glances, which I found odd, but he replied promptly, “No, Maxine, I simply talked to her and Kouga. Kouga seems to know what’s going on, as he’s been witness to Catalina’s attacks on Japan during this age…”
“And Kagome? What does she have to do with anything?” I asked, pressing.
He stopped, taking both my hands in his grip, “Maxine, do you trust me?” he asked.
I nodded, “Yes, of course.”
“Then trust me when I say nothing happened with her. I don’t exactly know why or how I was transported to her when we were in the basement… I still don’t know what attacked me. But I do know I love YOU, and not Kagome, not Cat, but YOU. I will fight whatever is brewing, for YOU, Maxine.”
I nodded slowly as he pulled me into his arms. I let my head rest right where it always had, just on his chest, slightly on his shoulder, my lips next to his neck, “I love you too, InuYasha.. I’m just so scared I might lose you, to anyone or anything…” I whispered.
He kissed my cheeks, then my lips, “I’m not going anywhere…”
“You might, however, need to leave, together,” Sesshoumaru said. I glanced up at him, “Why?” InuYasha asked. His head nodded towards the horizon, over the tree tops in the distance, over the forest where the well with our way out was. A swarm, a dark cloud, demons…
“They’re blocking your way, I suggest you run…” Sesshoumaru said.
“I don’t run,” InuYasha answered.
“I suggest you do what’s best for the girl, InuYasha, and your daughter,” he replied coldly. I met Sesshoumaru’s gaze. Where was this kindness coming from?
He shook his head and snapped, “I’m not doing this for you, bastard, I’m doing it because this girl is innocent and so is this child.”
InuYasha didn’t question his motives, taking my hand. Sesshoumaru stopped, taking a gentle hold onto my arm, “…watch over the child… and this bastard. You…deserve a good life, have him provide it for you,” he said. I nodded slowly, understanding as he whispered, “Watch my niece… name her..for me.. she had those eyes… name her Rin, for me.” I nodded once again, squeezing Sesshoumaru’s hand kindly, “You are not as cold as I was led to believe, Sesshoumaru. Take care of yourself.”
InuYasha and him exchanged a quick look. Not unkind, just… regretful.
“Go!” Sesshoumaru yelled.
InuYasha bent down a bit, “Get on my back,” he said, a soft order. I obeyed, holding onto his shoulders as he cradled either of my legs so I rode on his back piggy-back style. Before I knew it, we were dashing the opposite way, the wind chilling me. I realized now that the sky had grown darker, clouds spreading.
“Damnit, they’re coming closer…” InuYasha muttered. Just as he spoke the words, a silver-haired neko dashed from behind a tree, easily grabbing my stray hairs, and wrenching me from InuYasha’s back. She laughed coldly as she kept my hair in her grip, pulling ever so slightly, her other hand around a katana that was held to my neck.
“Cat,” InuYasha panted, surprised.
“You think, killing me once will achieve death, InuYasha?” she asked.
“You bitch…” I whispered. She looked down at me, “Do you wish to die, Maxine?”
“No… no…” I whispered, holding back a cry.
“Choose death, or life…without your lover,” she said bitterly.
I met InuYasha’s optics. He knew my answer, but refused to allow me.
“…I will fight for him, to the death,” I replied in a courageous voice.
Catalina laughed evilly, “Your wish is my command,” she said, releasing me and tossing her other katana to me. I caught it instinctively. She perked a brow, “Seems you always had a knack for finding girl’s with fighting skills, InuYasha,” she said softly. My fingers held the hilt of the katana and suddenly a vision flashed before my eyes. A pirate, a kitsune, this neko… all laughing, sitting together. My eyes met Catalina’s. “Who ARE you?” she whispered softly, obviously shocked. She’d seen a similar vision…
“I… am of the NekoYasha line…” I whispered, instinctively speaking these unfamiliar words. Or… were they familiar?
InuYasha walked towards me, glaring at Catalina, “Stop playing mind games with her, Cat… leave her out of this…”
“No, InuYasha, stand back…” I whispered, holding my hand out to stop him, then to Cat I said, “Who are you? Why… why?” I breathed the question.
“…reincarnation… too many souls, too many times…” Cat whispered. I understood, without really knowing how or why.
“Kill me, and you kill yourself,” she said, looking up at me, almost horrified.
