ME: This is going to be a confusing chappy, I have to warn you.

/Indeed/

Bakura: Do you think we could put a name to that voice?

/If I knew it, I would tell it to you./

ME: I know! How about...Neo-QueenChibi-Usa!

/I like that!/

ME: Good, now, Neo-QueenChibi-Usa, please do the disclaimer.

/My Hikari, Neo-QueenRini, does not own Yu-Gi-oh, because if she did, Bakura would have a sister!/

ME: Gotta love her.

Bakura: 'Maybe I do....'

ME: *Rolls eyes, and slaps Bakura on the back of the head*

Bakura: Don't hit me onna! *Moves to hit Neo-QueenRini.*

/You do, you die tomb-robber/

Bakura backed away from the High Priest, only to find guards surrounded them. 'Fuck fuck fuck fuck!' thought Bakura.

"Bind them." ordered the High Priest.

One of the guards tore Serenity from Bakura's grasp, while others tied the two boys up. They also bound Serenity's hands, but as soon as she was set on the ground, she colasped.

The High Priest made his way over to her. "Stand up." he ordered. But she couldn't, she was too weak to stand. "I said STAND UP!" barked the High Priest.

"Idiot! She's sick!" exclaimed Bakura, earning himself a slap from the guards.

Serenity began to cough, a trickle of blood running out of her mouth. Seto frowned slightly, and knelt beside her. He tilted her chin to look into her face, and could see how ill she was, as well as her many cuts and bruises. Naturally he assumed Bakura had given them to her. He pulled out his dagger and cut her bindings.

"Get up." said Seto firmly.

She didn't.

Seto sighed, and picked her up. She was entirely too light. He barely even noticed her weight. He looked into her eyes, her beautiful blue eyes, and could see she feared him. He sighed again.

"You're riding with me to the palace." he told her.

She didn't answer, just started coughing again. Seto retrieved a canteen from his camel and forced her to drink some water to sooth her throat. She closed her lips and wouldn't drink it. Seto growled.

"If you want to stop that cough then drink." he told her.

She didn't.

Seto growled in irration, but instead of slapping her he climbed on his camel and pulled her up in front of him. She continued to cough, but refused any help he offered.

"What's your problem?" growled Seto.

"Why?"

"Why what?"

"Why did you tie up Kura and Malik? They didn't do anything wrong." said Serenity, before she started coughing again.

Rubbing her back lightly, Seto laughed. "We'll let the Pharaoh be the judge of that." he said.

She was silent after that, save for when she had a coughing fit. Unknown to her, Seto's eyes racked over her body. 'She's thin, I can count every bone in her body! She's hurt too, and sick. Oh well, nothing Jou can't fix. I like her eyes and hair, and her figure is quite nice, even if she is only about 10 or 11. She's short, but that won't matter. I wonder...' Seto removed his hand from Serenity's back as she stopped coughing.

Some time later, Serenity fell asleep with her head against his shoulder. By that time it had grown dark, they would have to stop soon. They stopped, and set up camp. Malik and Bakura were kept in a small, heavily guarded tent. The guards alternated shifts between guarding and sleeping. Seto had the largest tent. But this still left the problem of what to do with Serenity.

Put her with the prisioners? No.

By herself? Nah.

With the guards? Don't think so.

With the High Priest? Um....

Seto carried Serenity to the tent they would be sharing. She coughed the whole way there, so she didn't notice where they were going.

They entered the tent, and Seto placed her gently on one of the bedrolls. He began to remove her robes, and she made an attempt to slap his hand away. He growled, but removed her clothing. She grabbed the sheets to cover herself. Annoyed, Seto jerked them out of her hands, and began to examine her body. Cuts and bruises covered every inch of her.

"Bakura did this, didn't he?" growled Seto.

"Kura would never hurt me." she said coldly.

"Who did it then?"

"None of your business!"

Seto frowned. Serenity was frightened, she thought he was going to slap her.

He didn't.

"I will ask you again. Who did this? If you don't answer me, I will have to assume Bakura is responsible." Seto's voice was a deadly calm.

Serenity's eyes widened in fear. "Ab hurt me." she said quietly, before breaking out in coughs again.

Seto rubbed her back, and gave her water. Suprisingly, she drank it.

Seto couldn't believe his ears. Her Ab, FATHER had done this to her????????? How could he harm such an innocent child?

"Why do you care?" asked Serenity suddenly.

"I care because your hurt, and I like you, that's why." responded Seto without looking at her.

He pulled a robe from among his things and put it on her. Then he used a sash to keep it in place. It was a bit long, but that didn't matter because she couldn't walk anyway. Seto gently lay Serenity back and covered her up.

"Sleep, you'll need it." Seto had barely gotten the words out when gut-wretching coughs took over the girl's body. Seto sat her up and soothed her coughs, then they both slept, for awhile at least.

All through the night Serenity would cough, and Seto would help her. This wasn't like him, that was for sure, but for some reason he found himself really starting to like this girl.

The next morning they were awoken by, once again, Serenity's coughing. Seto sat up, calmed her down, then poked his head out of the tent. Everyone else was just waking up.

"High Priest, may I see Kura and Malik today, please?" asked Serenity, her voice a little hoarse from all the coughing.

Seto looked back at her. "Perhaps, if you eat something." He scooped her up and headed out of tent.

"I'll eat, but I can't promise I'll keep it down." said Serenity truthfully.

"Fine, but stop if you feel like you'll get sick."

Serenity snorted, then coughed. "Are you kidding? I haven't kept anything down for at least a month."

Seto sighed, and sat on a chair, Serenity in his lap, as a servant handed him his food. He gave her a grape. Her eyes widened.

"Go on, eat it." urged Seto.

She popped it in her houth, but, as predicted, it didn't stay down. Seto just barely managed to avoid getting it on him.

"I told you so." she said.

Seto sighed. "I will have someone take you to see your brother."

"Thank you High Priest."

"One more thing, call me Seto."

"Very well Seto."

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^^**^^*^*^*^*^*^

Serenity was brought to her brother's tent by one of the younger guards. He had to carry her, and put his hands in places Serenity didn't like.

He set her inside, and walked out. Serenity was right beside them, so she wouldn't have to move around too much.

"Ren?" It was Bakura, he was bound tightly, as was Malik.

"Kura, Malik! How are you?" Serenity hugged each of them with what little strength she had.

"We're fine Ren, what happened to you?" asked Bakura.

"Yeah, I saw the High Priest take you into his tent last night. He didn't hurt you, did he?" Asked Malik, concerned.

"I'm fine you two, really I am. Seto didn't want me to stay witt the guards, and he said I'm to sick to stay alone. He didn't touch me." she said.

"Ren, you're not telling us everything." said Bakura seriously.

"Did he give you those robes?" asked Malik.

"He did."

"Serenity, how did you get them on?" asked Bakura.

"He put them on me." she replied, carefully avoiding their eyes.

"AND YOU LET HIM?" Bakura all but screamed.

"Kura, I couldn't stop him. He saw how hurt I was, and he thought you did it. I had to tell him about what Ab did." She told him quickly, before she started coughing again.

Bakura wanted to help her, but he was tied up so he couldn't. But he was still mad.

"He saw you with NO covering?" growled Bakura through clenched teeth.

"I told you, I couldn't stop him. And he didn't touch me, I swear Kura!"

"Yeah, sure." muttered Malik.

"Shut it you."

"Make me."

"Fine."

"Don't push her Malik." said Bakura.

"Why not? She's just a girl."

"Oh am I? Well, last I remembered you're tied, I'm not, and your ticklish."

Malik eyed her suspiciously. "You wouldn't..."

She did.

Malik laughed as Serenity tickled him. She wasn't very strong, but it didn't take much to make him burst out laughing. Everyone who knew Malik knew this. And nobody who valued their life acted on it. Unless of course their name was Serenity.

"Serenity st..stop it! Serenity!" Malik was laughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Serenity suddenly started coughing, and collasped on top of Malik.

"Ren!" shouted Bakura.

She didn't stop coughing. Her coughs were gut-wrentching, and she couldn't breathe! Malik and Bakura started yelling for help, but before anyone got there, she passed out. She wasn't breathing.

The High Priest himself came in. His face drained of color when he saw Serenity. He picked her up quickly, and rushed outside barking orders.

*^*^*^*^*^*^^*^^*^*^*^^*^*^^*^^*^*

The rest of the way to the palace Seto carried Serenity, and never said a word. She was breathing, but she didn't wake up. No matter what he said, she didn't wake up.

As soon as they reached the palace Seto took Serenity to see the Healer, Jou. Jou rushed out to help her. Seto had to leave because he was needed at Bakura and Malik's trial.

"Tell me if she gets any better...or worse." said Seto.

"Will do." replied Jou without looking up.

Jou placed his hand on Serenity's face and healed the wounds there. He then continued over the remainder of her body, until all external injuries were healed. He tried to diagnos her illness, but wasn't able to. All he could do was try to mix an elixer to cure her. He used any herb he could think of that might help, as well as mixing in his own healing powers. Jou knew he had to save this girl, for the High Priest seemed quite fond of her.

As the herbs brewed Jou tried to awaken the girl, unsuccesfully. He sighed. She was a cute little girl, and Jou hated to see her hurt. He only hoped he could help her.

^*^*^*^^*^*^**^^*^*^

In the throne room Bakura and Malik were brought before the Pharaoh. He wasn't happy, to say the least.

The list of charges against them was read, and Bakura couldn't help but flinch. If they died, Serenity would have nobody to take care of her...

But he would not cry.

He could not cry.

He must not cry.

He wanted to cry.

*^^**^*^*^*^^**^*^^*^*^**^*^^**^*^

The elixer was almost done when Serenity stopped breathing. Jou tried to make her breathe, to make her live just a little longer.

She didn't.

Jou kept trying for another five minutes, even tried giving her the elixer, but it didn't work, nothing worked. He couldn't save her.

Jou dropped to his knees and pounded his fist on the ground. He had only just seen the girl, but he cared about her, as did the High Priest.

'Time to break the news.' Picking up the body of the young girl, he headed toward the throne room.

*^*^*^*^^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^***^*^*^*^***^*^^^**^^* *^^

Jou stopped outside the gigantic room, almost afraid to go in. One of the guards came up to him.

"What do you want Healer?" he asked, glancing at the girl in his arms.

"I..I need to see the High Priest." said Jou.

"He is busy."

"He told me to tell him if this girl got any worse, and well, she died."

The guards face softened slightly. "Alright, I'll get him for you."

"Thank you."

The guard turned and walked into the throne room. Jou waited nervously outside. He really hated this part of his job. The girl's body was getting cool now. Jou shivered. He REALLY hated this part of his job.

Finally the guard emerged, Seto at his heels. The High Priest took one look at the young girl, and paled.

"She's dead, isn't she?"

"I'm sorry, there was nothing I could do." said Jou, his head bowed.

Seto looked down at the girl. "May Osiris guide her safely to the underworld."

Jou sighed. "We really should tell the brother."

Seto nodded. "Come." He led the Healer into the throne room.

The room fell silent, even the Pharaoh was watching them. Jou approached Bakura, and knelt beside him. Bakura turned to look, and paled.

"No..Ren..It can't be.." He says queitly. He moved, wanting despretly to hold her. Seto untied his arms, knowing he wouldn't go anywhere, and Bakura took Serenity in his arms. Years filled the tomb-robbers eyes. They fell on the corpse of the girl. Bakura started fishing in his pocket for something, and pulled out what looked like a ring. On it was a silver Eye of Ra, with some kind of blue substance in the center. Bakura put the ring on the girl's finger, and began to chant a spell he had found in a tomb long ago. Not many knew this language, but the High Priest and Pharaoh were two of them.

(Translation)

"Ra, Osiris, Horus, Isis, hear my cry. Restore life to this innocent soul, forward in time where she cannot be reached by those who wish to harm her in this time. Remove her curse, heal her scars, reborn her purity, innocence, and heart. I beg of you, almighty gods, by the power of the Shodow Realm, give the gift of life to one who did not deserve to lose it." Bakura uttered these words in an old toung.

As he spoke, a black aura surrounded the two. Suddenly, her body vanished, and Bakura fell weakened to the floor.

"Bakura?! What in the name of Ra did you just do?!" Malik all but yelled.

Bakura grinned. "It doesn't matter Malik, nothing matters anymore. She is safe, and that's what matters."

?*^*^^*^*^**^*^^**^^*^*^*PRESENT^*^**^*^^*^*^**^^*^*^*^* ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

Bakura sat bolt upright in his soulroom. Letting out a string of egyptian curses, he stood up and started pacing. 'That dream again...dammnit! Why can't I remember her?!'

Bakura heard a light knocking at his soulroom door. "WHAT?!" He screamed.

Bakura heard a tiny whimper from Ryou. "May I came in, Bakura-sama?"

Rolling his eyes, Bakura growled, "Fine."

Ryou stepped in. "Bakura-sama, I need to ask you a favor."

Bakura snorted. "What do you want baka?"

Ryou backed away slightly. "Well...you see...my Okaa-san...um..."

"Spit it out Ryou!" snapped Bakura.

"My sister is coming to live with us because our Okaa-san died last night and Dad can't get back from Egypt. I want you to please not come out tomorrow because she doesn't know about you." said Ryou quickly.

Bakura laughed. "Your sister eh? We'll see, now OUT!" and Bakura shoved Ryou out of his soulroom.

ME: I told you it was confusing!
