Crossing Time
Part 5 (Omi)
It had been a couple of days since Omi and Bakura had gone on the heist. The both of them had been avoiding each other more then usual. This had not gone unnoticed by Marik. Although he didn't know what had happened between the two of them, he had to try and fix it.
Marik went into the cave, and, standing in the 'doorway', he watched Omi sitting in the corner with Nagi. The two boys were talking; Nagi was telling a little bit about his time in the palace, while Omi told him what life with Marik and Bakura was like. Marik smiled a little, it was nice to see Omi so happy. He had not seen Omi smile and laugh so much before, sure the kid seemed to be happy here, but he was definitely happier to have someone familiar around him.
Nagi was still a little skittish, but that was understandable. After what the kid had been through it was surprising he was even talking. Marik glanced over at Bakura who was still trying his best to pretend like he was ignoring Omi. But Marik was surprised to see the silver haired theif watching his blonde-haired charge. He looked away quickly when Omi looked over at him as well, and Marik didn't miss the hurt look that flashed across Omi's face.
//...I wonder what I did wrong...? Am I really that repulsive to him? I know I'm probably not as pretty as some other people, or as sexy as Marik...I wish I never went on that stupid heist the other night..// Omi thought and got a flash of Bakura with his hand down Omi's pants. Omi's face turned bright red at the memory, but he also felt his chest tighten painfully. Nagi reached out and put a hand on Omi's shoulder. Omi nearly jumped and looked back at Nagi quickly not realizing that he had tears forming in his eyes. Nagi blinked at that and reached over catching a tear just as it fell.
"...Omi...what's wrong?" He asked. Omi's eyes went wide and he wiped his eyes quickly.
"It's nothing...I-I have something in my eye." Omi said quickly standing up and running out of the room. Nagi watched him go sadly. Something was clearly wrong and Nagi was upset that Omi didn't find him worthy enough to share his troubles with. //Of course he wouldn't share his problems with you, you idiot. Until a few days ago, as far as he knew you two were still enemies.// Nagi thought looking down. Marik walked over to Nagi.
"Do you know what's wrong with Omi?" He asked. Nagi shook his head.
"...No..." Nagi looked up at him. "I was hoping you would know..." Marik sighed and petted Nagi's head.
"Don't worry about it kid." Marik said and smiled. "Omi and Bakura don't get along, and Omi always gets hurt when Bakura does something stupid." Bakura glared at them wondering why the hell Marik was talking like it was HIS fault that Omi was having issues. Marik petted Nagi's head again and turned to Bakura and blinked.
"Why the hell are you just sitting there, Bakrua? Omi's upset and I KNOW it's your fault! Don't know what you did, but you did something to upset Omi." Marik snapped.
"I had nothing to do with it." Bakura said and flopped back on the pillows.
"Bullshit. He's been like this since you two got back the other day." Marik practically yelled.
"I don't have to sit here and listen to you yelling at me for something when I didn't _DO_ ANYTHING!" Bakura shouted back, before standing and stomping out of the room. Marik growled and picked up something throwing it across the room. Nagi whimpered cowering against the wall. Marik blinked when he heard Nagi whimper and mentally cursed himself. //Well, so much for not freaking him out.// Marik thought and went over to Nagi.
"Hey, don't be scared kid, okay? I'm not mad at you, and neither is Bakura." Marik said and sat next to him. Nagi glanced at him trying to hide the fact that he was shaking. Marik sighed and wrapped his arm around him to pull him closer, trying to give him what little comfort he could.
~*~
Out in the larger section of the cave, Bakura was stomping around. Everyone stayed out of his way, mostly because they didn't like getting in the way of a pissed off Bakura. They guessed that he was pissed at Marik again; the two were best friends, but also fought like brothers most of the time. And Bakura was indeed pissed at Marik. He was angry that Marik was blaming him for Omi being upset. Bakura couldn't remember doing anything to make Omi so depressed. //Omi's just acting like a child. He better snap out of it soon.// Bakura thought. Because if Omi didn't snap out of it, Bakura WOULD Have to do something about it.
As Bakura walked around, he realized that he hadn't seen Omi anywhere. Bakura just shrugged it off thinking Omi was hiding again. He had noticed that when Omi wanted to be alone, he had someplace to go to be by himself. Hopefully being alone now would help Omi feel better. But Bakura did find it slightly annoying that Omi disappeared a lot, mostly when Bakura and Marik fought. But there really was nothing that Bakura could do to stop Omi from disappearing.
Bakura decided not to worry to much about Omi. He was still inside the cave, and fairly safe. After all, the kid could fight, and take care of himself. Bakura turned to head back to the cave as he silently debated yelling at Omi when he got back from where ever he was, for being childish.
~*~
Omi was indeed hiding from Bakura and everyone. He didn't like to be around people when he was crying, because they always asked what was wrong, and he didn't feel like answering any questions. Omi pulled his knees up to his chest trying to stop the tears. He didn't know why he was crying, he had no reason too. He didn't care what Bakura thought of him, and it didn't matter what he said to him. But whenever Omi thought about what Bakura did, it made his chest hurt and the tears come even faster.
Omi looked out of the small cave he was hiding in. He was sure that he was the only one who knew about it, because he was the only one that ever came here. Omi had noticed it here when Keith was chasing him. Omi glanced down at everyone below and ducked back into the cave when he saw Bakura. He rested his head on his knees. He didn't want to look at him. He didn't understand why Bakura hurt him all the time. Or why it hurt when Bakura was mean to him. He tried to stop the fresh flow of tears, but the more he tried to stop them the more he thought of why he was crying, and the more he cried.
"What's wrong with me...?" Omi asked himself as he curled up more wrapping his arms around himself. He didn't know how long he stayed like that, but he decided to go get something to ear when his stomach growled. The last thing he needed was to stay up here all day, then have Bakura yell at him for not eating. He had done that once, and Bakura had yelled at him for nearly an hour.
He sat up slowly and wiped his red rimmed eyes and went to stand up. But as soon as he turned to leave the small cave, he was met by a fist in the face. Omi didn't have time to react before he was also punched in the stomach. He doubled over in pain coughing. He caught a glimpse of someone out of the corner of his eye. He couldn't see who it was, and when he looked up to get a better look, he was kicked in the face sending him flying back to the ground. His eyes were blurring with tears of pain, and he saw a figure of a man standing over him with a spear. The man looked up and jammed the spear in-between the rocks that made up the roof of the small cave. He wiggled the spear around loosening the rocks a little before looking down at Omi.
"Consider this payback, Miu." The man snapped and left the cave. Omi coughed again and rubbed his cheek where he had been punched and kicked. He slowly sat up and reached up grabbing the spear to pull himself up as he held his stomach. But as he did the spear slipped out from the roof. Omi's eyes went wide and he had just enough time to move back out of the way before the rocks fell on him. Omi fell back and screamed when a rock fell on his leg trapping him there. He looked up when he heard more rocks shaking loose and his eyes went wide when he saw the head to the spear, witch was still trapped in the ceiling, fall loose and stick into his shoulder. It wasn't that deep, until a rock fell on it pushing it right through.
Omi threw his head back and screamed. No one could hear him scream though, not through the sound of falling rocks, and people screaming outside in the larger cave.
"SHIT! What if the whole cave collapses now?!" Someone outside was yelling. Bakura who had been heading back to his room stopped and looked up at the small cave that collapsed. He glanced at the people freaking out and rolled his eyes.
"It was just a small cave in, they happen all the time stupid." He snapped and continued on his way back to his room. He opined the curtain and blinked when he saw Marik holding Nagi on his lap. He raised an eyebrow before he realized that Nagi was crying.
"What the hell is his problem?" Bakura asked irritably. Marik glared at him.
"Jackass, go torment little kids, or kick small dogs, like you usually do. Nagi turned his face into Marik's neck and tried to stifle the tears.
"I'm sorry..." He said in Japanese. Marik rubbed his back. "It's okay." He murmured comfortingly. Bakura snorted. Did Marik count as a little dog? Because the other thief was certainly one person here he'd like to kick. He watched as Marik continued to comfort the crying boy, who was still muttering in Japanese. It was just annoying him even more.
"I'm sorry...I'm sorry. I don't know why I can't stop crying. I never cry...I don't know why I'm crying, I'm sorry." Nagi said through his tears.
"Shh, it's okay. It's okay to cry sometimes. So go ahead and cry." Marik said softly as he continued to hold Nagi close. He hadn't thought a simple conversation would lead to this.
~*flash back*~
Marik was sitting next to Nagi watching the boy play with the arm band he had taken off. he seemed to be deep in thought about something.
"Are you thirsty? Marik asked, snapping Nagi out of his thoughts. The blue-eyed boy looked up at him quickly.
"ah...hai...I mean yes..." Nagi said softly. Nagi flinched back when Marik raised his hand to pet his head. Marik blinked wondering what Nagi was scared of. Nagi blinked when Marik gently put his hand on his head before standing and leaving the room. He came back a few seconds later with a pitcher of water.
"Here you go." He smiled handing the water to Nagi who gave him a small smiled as he took it and drank it down quickly. "Not so fast, you'll make your self sick." Marik said taking the water away from Nagi's lips. Nagi frowned looking up at him. "Drink more slowly. No one is going to take it away from you." He said and put the water back to Nagi's lips and made him drink more slowly. When the water was gone Marik put it down and sat next to Nagi agian.
"...Marik...?" Nagi asked softly.
"Nani?" Nagi opened his mouth then closed it again trying to form the question that was running around in his head. He opened his mouth again to try again.
"I...why am I here...?" He asked clenching his fists so tight that his knuckles where white."
"huh?" Marik blinked at him trying to make sense out of Nagi's question.
"Why am I here?" Nagi asked again. "Why did you help me? Why is Omi here? Why is he upset? If I did it I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make him run away like that..." Nagi said switching to Japanese half way through his sentence as he tried to hold back his tears. He didn't want to cry - this was the last thing Marik needed - and Nagi was sure that Marik had better things to do with his time than listen to Nagi. Nagi was surprised though when he felt a pair of arms wrap around him. He looked at Marik as he was pulled onto the older boy's lap. Marik wrapped his arms around him and held him close, much like he would a small child.
Marik glanced up when he heard people yelling outside but wasn't willing to let Nagi got to go see what all the noise was about.
"Nagi, the reason I helped you is because no one deserves to have their free will taken from them. Even slaves are human." Marik said hoping that would calm Nagi down. But it just made the boy cry even more and latch onto Marik.
~*End flashback*~
Bakura glared at the two. He didn't understand why Marik had to start protecting Omi and Nagi. And comfort them whenever they started crying. It was worse then having to take care of babies.
A few more minutes went by of Nagi crying. As much as Bakura tried to ignore it, he couldn't take it anymore. "Will you shut the fuck up already!? Jeez. Between you and Omi it's a wonder I don't hear crying every time I close my eyes!" Nagi's temper with Bakura had slowly been rising, and even though he wanted to start crying again, he could feel his powers running through his body again, witch made him more confident.
"Who are you to condemn me for crying? Omi for crying? If you knew HALF of what we've been through you would CHOKE on your nasty words!!" He shouted his hair flowing slightly. Frighteningly calm all of a sudden, Bakura stared at him.
"What then? What horrors have you endured in your short life?" He snapped, even though he didn't mean too.
"I am fifteen years old, nearly sixteen, When I was SEVEN my mother was killed! I had to live on the streets for nearly FIVE years!" Nagi yelled and took some time to catch his breath to keep his powers in check.
"Is that all?" Bakura asked before nagi could continue. Bakura intuited him. "That is nothing. You lived on the streets. Big fucking deal. I was kicked out of my house by my own father. I had to steal to survive. I stole from the wrong man once when I was thirteen I was beaten and raped as punishment. So you have no right to cry because your life is shit!!"
"Shut up! Just SHUT UP!!!" Nagi yelled his hair flowing more as a wind came up out of nowhere. "You don't understand ANYTHING! You were raped once, maybe twice? I killed my own mother! Then paid for it with my body every day for FIVE YEARS! Most of the time I was lucky and they PAID ME! I lost count of how many times I was taken against my will!" Nagi's eyes turned red and the cave started shaking. Bakura had actually taken a couple steps back.
"Alright. That explains you, but that is no reason for Omi to run off crying." ((AN: Bakura, open mouth insert foot...I think he has a death wish...))
"Omi has been here for MONTHS. And you know NOTHING about him! I know more about him and I was his enemy for YEARS! Sometimes I think Omi has gone through more shit then me! His father hated him, his brother liked to torment him, his mother killed herself, his father hired men to kidnap and kill him, be was raped by them then rescued only to be raised and trained as an assassin by his own uncle! I'm surprised he is only crying because you hate him! He has a LOT more that he could be crying over, but the only thing he WANTS is for you to say something nice to him once in a while. So before you want to go complaining about something so STUPID like someone crying, just think about what I told you." Nagi snapped.
Marik meanwhile was silently watching these proceedings with an open mouth. Bakura, though, only said one thing.
"Omi is an assassin? That explains so much--" Nagi threw his hands up, and suddenly Bakura found himself looking down at the cave from somewhere near the ceiling. And his back was killing him. With a pained cry Nagi fell to the ground, and Bakura dropped seconds after. His breath was knocked from his chest by the blows, and while he sat there trying to breath, Marik gathered Nagi up and was leaving with him. On his way out Marik planted his foot on Bakura chest sending him reeling again.
"Come on." He said softly to Nagi. "I will take you out on Malek, my horse, and show you the night sky out here in the desert."
By the time Bakura had gathered his thoughts, Marik and Nagi were long gone. He rubbed his chest where Marik had kicked him, and thought about what Nagi had told him about Omi. He understood now why Omi had been so happy when Nagi showed up, and why the blond boy hung around Marik and Jou. They were probably the only people, besides Nagi, who had been nice to him.
Bakura growled to himself. He would have to talk to Omi when he got back from where ever he had run off to. Bakura lay back on the pillows to wait.
~*~
Omi groaned as he turned his head to the side. His head was pounding and his leg felt funny. Omi opened his eyes and blinked at the dark space. He was trying to sit up and see what had become of the light, when the spear head made itself known again as pain shot down through Omi's arm and side. He bit his lip and reached up to pull it out, hoping that it wasn't to deep. Omi count to three in his head before pulling it out.
He cried out as pain shot through his arm again and he fell back on the dirt waiting for the pain to stop. He couldn't already feel the blood soaking through his shirt, and he was now more aware of the pressure on his leg when he tried to move it. As Omi lay there bleeding, his leg trapped under a rock and his head pounding he wondered how long it would take someone to find him. He closed his eyes and fell asleep again.
