A/N: I know that I am taking horribly long on writing up all of these chapters, for both stories as a matter of fact, but for one I have not been in a writing mood for the past while, and two, homework like there is no tomorrow, and three, if I was writing it was either an assignment or my novel or a few sentences on these stories, and four, I'm in physiotherapy right now so that takes out almost two hours of my time everyday. I am really sorry, I know that most of you don't like the fact that I don't update as often as I used to, but I'm really sorry.

“Yami, what happened,” demanded Yugi as his dark entered the house supporting Bakura, Seto and Joey entering the house moments later. Yami glanced at Yugi before turning his gaze away allowing Seto to take Bakura and support him towards the stairs, Joey had been crying by the red stains around his eyes Yugi noticed this as the blonde place a hand on Yami's shoulder, “what happened,” he asked again.
Lifting his crimson eyes filled with pain, guilt, and grief Yami heaved a shaky breath, “They killed Ryu, Honda, and Anzu. They came to find where I was and to retrieve the ring, Bakura was the only one that survived,” he expounded slowly, his voice dejected as if he was speaking from a great distance away.
Tears came to Yugi's eyes, “they're gone,” was all he could say before he threw himself against Yami crying openly, his tears soaking through his darker half's shirt. Feeling tears of his own come to his eyes Yami held Yugi tightly, lifting him up as best as he could he carried the smaller one to the couch, sitting down he held Yugi on his lap as they shared their grief, their link open to allow both of them to share in their grief.
Gently Yami began to rock back and forth rubbing Yugi's back comfortingly, “I'm sorry,” he murmured, “If I knew that they would have gone this far I would have made sure that they were here with us, not alone”. He closed his eyes feeling his tears finally leave his eyes, he felt guilty and filled with overwhelming melancholy. Sure Anzu, Ryu, and Honda had been more Yugi's friends, but he had still become very close to them over these past few years of struggle together. Biting his lip he buried his head in Yugi's neck, “I'm sorry that this is happening Yugi, I'm sorry”.
The rush of emotions from Yami's side of the link overwhelmed Yugi, startled him at first then alerted him to his darks distress, Yami felt that it was his fault that Anzu, Honda, and Ryu were gone, it was clear as night. Gripping onto the spirit more firmly than he thought he possibly could Yugi whispered comfortingly but forcefully into Yami's ear, “this is not your fault and you know it Yami, do not put the blame on your shoulders, that weight is way too heavy of a burden for you to carry, and might I add its an unnecessary one. Don't do this Yami it will only make you feel worse”.
Shuddering Yami pulled back and using his thumb wiped away the tears on Yugi's delicate face, “why does it feel like it is,” he murmured, “they were after me, and they were killed because they were in the way”.
“Yami look at me,” Yugi insisted grasping Yami's hands tightly, crimson eyes lifted to his own reluctantly, “it may feel like its but its not. Toran killed them, not you, and you played no part in it save the fact that they wanted to find you. They died bravely defending all of us, they saved us Yami, they saved you. You are not responsible, trust me Yami”.
“I know but, I feel like I am,” Yami murmured so low that Yugi barely caught it, placing his hand over his pounding temple he groaned, “Gods my head is pounding”.
“Come, lets go to bed, it will help us,” Yugi insisted standing up and pulling Yami with him, the spirit was unusually shaky and Yugi sensed a slight weakness within him, “are you sure you're alright Yami, physically I mean other than the concussion”.
Blinking Yami shrugged, “out of what I know Aibou, but Seto wants me to have a few x-rays done tomorrow here so that he can be certain that I do not have any broken ribs. The bruises are worrying him apparently. Do you want me to stay with you tonight or are you going to be fine on your own,” he asked as they mounted the stairs.
Heaving a sigh Yugi turned off the lights for the main floor area blanketing the room in a thick layer of darkness, “I think I'll be fine, it's you that I'm worried about. You go lay down, let me get some stuff for your head and chest,” he said stepping into the hallway.
“I'm fine Aibou, you need your sleep,” Yami insisted.
Crocking a brow Yugi stopped in front of the door to Yami's room, turning to his close friend he gripped his shoulder, “let me do this Yami, the more I do the more I won't think about them, please”.
Rubbing his temple Yami nodded not wanting to argue with Yugi over the matter, he was too sore and tired to care at the moment really. Entering his bedroom he changed and opened a window before Yugi returned; ice pack, towel, and tensor bandages in hand. Silently Yami sat on the edge of the bed and held the ice pack to his head along with the towel while he allowed Yugi to re-bandage his torso, his Aibou had been right it was distracting him from what had transpired. The images of Anzu, Honda, and Ryu's bloodied carcasses vacated his mind and he closed his eyes, relaxing into the coolness of the ice pack and the relief from the pain it was giving him.
Yugi gently rubbed his back, “there, I'll go change then come back, unless you don't want me to stay,” he said as Yami opened an eye and glanced at him.
“You can stay here Yugi, it's not like we have never shared a bed before, besides if one of us wakes up from a nightmare it would be best if we were not alone. I would be too stubborn to move and would not fall back asleep, and you would try and find your way to my room in the dark. Just stay here, we are both safer that way,” he stated squeezing Yugi's shoulder. Smiling Yugi nodded in agreement before rising to his feet and quickly vacating the room to change, brush his teeth, and wash his face.
Glancing at the window Yami stared out into the expanse of the lawn down below. A pool lay nearby; the moonlight scintillating brightly off the chlorine filled water, surrounding it was a smooth stone patio leading to a deck. Tress surrounded the lawn alongside the ten foot stone fence; planters were pressed up against the edge of the house filled with various flowers, exotic or common. Out of nowhere a German Shepard came bounding out into view, it barked playfully before Seto followed him rapidly around the corner. Interested Yami went and sat on the window seat and watched in amusement as Seto chased the dog playfully, throwing a ball for him and rolling around in the lush grass.
A small smile crept across his face, he loved how Seto had changed, he always knew that there was someone kind but protective like his now under his cold exterior. As he watched Seto run about recklessly like a child with his dog he realized what Seto was doing, it was his way of distracting himself from what had transpired. Heaving a sigh Yami hung his head; he feared loosing he had admitted to that already in his mind. But what he feared more was loosing what was left of his friends, they were all he really knew in this modern world, they were the only thing he was really living for, he had nothing else left.
Squeezing his eyes shut he felt overwhelming tears come to his eyes, rubbing the dampness away with the palm of his hand he returned his gaze to Seto, silently he promised himself that he would make sure that above all else his friends would be safe before anything else was.
Laying down on the bed he exhaled a deep breath and closed his eyes, tomorrow was going to be a long day, they would be making a lot of phone calls, preparing the funerals, retrieving the bodies, and getting Nick and Royan here. Hearing the door open and close he shifted over on the bed and pulled the covers down knowingly, Yugi placed a small kiss on his brow before placing the ice pack there from the nightstand. Letting a small smile escape his lips he reached over to Yugi with his one hand open, Yugi grasped it and shifted forward until he was laying against his darks back, his hand over his torso. Yami knew Yugi well, he would need to be holding someone in the middle of the night if he woke to feel safe, and at the moment he was the best candidate.
Yawning stiffly Yami peeked an eye open, the room was still pitch black. Allowing his eyes to adjust he searched for the alarm clock, it was six o'clock. Crocking a brow he glanced back at Yugi, his hikari clutched desperately to his shirt and his eyes were tear stained from last night when he woke with a chilling nightmare. Sighing deeply Yami removed the shirt gently before slipping out of the bed, he was too awake now to go back to sleep for another hour or so.
Silently he pulled on a house coat from his bag and tip toed out into the hallway, closing the door as quietly as he glanced down the darkened hallway. The curtains were closed over all of the windows blocking the moonlight from cascading into the hall, he sighed before striding forward and setting about opening all of them as quietly as he could. It was not that he was afraid of the dark; he just loved the silver glow of the moon.
Once that task was done he headed downstairs into the kitchen, he needed something to wake him up along with a cold ice pack, the one he had last night had only lasted a few hours. Creeping across the cool slate tile he headed for the pantry in the corner, opening it he allowed his eyes to search for something to drink like tea or coffee. Finding the coffee grounds he took the container out and set about making coffee.
The bitter heavy aroma of coffee brewing soon filled his sensed as the machine made its small humming noises as the dark liquid poured into the container. The scent was refreshing as it slowly lulled him to alertness, giving a final yawn he searched through the cupboards for the mugs, cream, and sugar.
With his coffee in hand he went to the door in the kitchen that led out to the backyard, pressing in the code to the alarm system he let it beep a few times before opening the door. A warm breeze rippled across his face as he stepped out onto the immense deck, breathing in the crisp summer air he closed the door behind him and headed to one of the lawn chairs nearby. Sitting down he held the rim of the cup to his lips and lifted his gaze to the stars that were still scintillating above.
The sight was calming, silver stars twinkling above brightly with the intensity of a falcon diving to its prey. Sighing he was about to close his eyes but the sound of mad scrambling caught his attention, the scraping sound was that of rather large claws dragging across wood. Blinking he turned his gaze to the side only to be met by the snarling face of the German Shepard dog that Seto had been with last night. Not fazed by the growling he chuckled, reaching out one of his hands to the animal, palm down to show that he would not hurt him.
The dog immediately stopped snarling and growling, he stared at Yami sceptically with large brown eyes before he began to viciously lick the former pharaoh's hand. Giggling Yami placed his cup on a table nearby table as the dog joyfully jumped half onto his lap. A small jubilant bark rang out from the dog as he lay there comfortably with his upper half on Yami's lap. Reaching out Yami grasped the cold dog tag on the collar and read the name, “Radar, that seems to suit you,” he murmured.
“I see you met the trouble maker in the family,” said a familiar deep voice, turning his gaze Yami smiled at the CEO and nodded. Sitting down on the chair next to Yami's Seto reached out and stroked his dogs head, “how did you sleep”.
Yami heaved a tired sigh, “alright, Yugi had a small break down in the middle of the night, I was awake with him until he fell asleep again. Otherwise, I was restless but at least I slept. Concussions and bruised torso's are hard to sleep with you know”.
Chuckling Seto squeezed Yami's shoulder, “we'll get you x-rayed as soon as the doctor arrives for his shift. This home has become a small hospital because of him, but I don't mind, the space if used for something productive at least”.
“When are you going to call Nick,” Yami asked taking a sip of his coffee while trying to keep it away from Radar's snooping nose.
“I already have, he's been awake for a while, he said that he was coming over right away. They have a private jet so they should be here in the afternoon sometime,” he expounded.
“Good, that gives us sometime to get some of the things that we need to do today done and over with,” Yami said, “the sooner this is done the better”.
“I'll hand the planning over to a funeral company, along with the phone calls and everything that comes with it. We should be relaxing and recuperating today, not in a frenzy,” Seto said gently.
“Alright,” Yami murmured before sipping more of his coffee.
Silence fell between the two of them, the heat from the coffee cascading down their throats as the brilliant golden and rosy fingers of the sun rise began to fall upon them gently. Squinting Yami turned his gaze and watched the spectacular sight, Seto on the other hand stared at the face of the one he loved with his entire soul. Crimson eyes were accented by the suns rose and gold rays falling upon his face, brightening the tanned flesh and shinning off of the perspiration upon it. Both were serene as the sun rose into the sky languidly, but through the calmness in their expressions sorrow was evident as well. The loss of their friends weighing down on their shoulders as they were locked in their trances. Radar whimpered when he felt the pain that both of them felt emotionally and began to lick Yami's hands affectionately, but the Pharaoh did not turn.
Letting a deep breath escape his lips Yami dropped his gaze to his lap, this was going to be a long day, he could tell already. Glancing down at his watch he blinked in bafflement, it was seven thirty. The others would not be up for a long time, they were all typical teenagers that would be asleep until noontide or later. Averting his attention to Radar he gently began to stroke the dogs head, nearly forgetting about Seto being with him until the CEO spoke up.
“I'll go make some breakfast for us, the others will not be up for a while and I will not be waiting that long to eat. Besides I enjoy cooking,” he said rising to his feet and grabbing both coffee cups, “do you want to come with me”.
Nodding Yami stood up after making sure that Radar was off of his lap, “I'll help, I'm not a horrible cook, after all I have been doing all the cooking for Yugi and Jii-san since I regained my own body”.
Crocking a brow in disbelief Seto entered the house allowing Radar to follow them in, Yami chuckled before going to the breakfast bar in the kitchen, “yes it is quite possible Seto. When I was Pharaoh I had to know the basics, that way I could help the soldiers when we were out on a hunt,” he expounded.
“I'll take your word for it, what do you want to make,” Seto asked opening the fridge.
“Do you have the ingredients to make eggs benedict,” asked the Pharaoh, immediately Seto nodded and began to rummage around for the supplies that they would need. Yami set about working on the eggs, sauce, and sausages, while Seto worked on a fruit salad, hash browns, and a homemade batch of orange juice.
The aroma's pulsating from the kitchen were enough to bring Bakura into alertness upstairs. Wincing he sat up slowly in bed, the scents from downstairs were making his mouth water. Besides his stomach was growling loudly at him from having not eaten supper or lunch the day before. Gingerly he pushed the covers off of his body and rose to his feet using the wall as his support. The pain was intense and it forced him to take a break as he went to grab a house coat that Seto had given him the night before.
Making his way down the hall he could not help but stare at the sun, it reminded him that this was a new day, a day to heal from the unbearable loss of his hikari and two close friends. Heaving a deep sigh he mounted the stairs and slowly made his way down, clutching the railing desperately. His movements must have caught Yami's attention because the Pharaoh came out from the kitchen immediately and supported him to the breakfast bar. Shifting onto one of the high stools with Yami's helping hands he rested his head on the cool counter, “do you have something hot to drink,” he inquired glancing around.
“Coffee, or would you like some tea,” Yami said before putting two more eggs in the poacher.
“Whatever is easier on me,” he said before inhaling the addicting aroma, “hmmm, I think that I'm going to get used to this, a decent breakfast in the morning that's not just toast”.
Seto laughed as Yami went into one of the cupboard and pulled out another cup, “only those that wake up as early as we do get this privilege. I don't cook for that many, takes way too much time,” the group of them laughed heartily before they continued what they were doing. Bakura soon found Yami handing him a cup of coffee with sugar and cream, sipping at it he watched the two silently made breakfast.
When the meal was ready Yami took the food out to the dinning room while Seto helped Bakura there, the former tomb robber was stiff with pain from the bruises he received and broken ribs. They ate in silence, enjoying the wondrous taste of the food before they silently agreed on getting dressed and heading to the hospital section of the mansion.
Dr. Harrison was a friendly man, he spoke to the two spirits kindly as he took the x-rays and gave them their diagnosis, along with re-dressing their wounds and telling them how to tend to their injures. Both had broken ribs, Bakura's wrist was sprained and Yami's concussion was severe enough that he had Dr. Harrison worried for a while. Saying their thanks the group left and returned to the main part of the house where the others were now slowly beginning to wake up.
Mokuba was on his Game Cube already with Yugi and Joey. The three of them had yet to eat anything apparently; they were too hooked into their racing game. It was something to keep them occupied, this way they would not be thinking of those that they lost all day long.
The day passed slowly. Yugi, Bakura, and Mokuba had all broken down not long after one o'clock, they had all agreed on calling their friends to come over when they remembered that they were no longer among the living. Seto had taken Mokuba up to his room when it had transpired while Yami held Yugi tightly rocking him back and forth while Bakura fell asleep against his shoulder. Joey watched this with hidden tears, once Yugi had fallen asleep as well he helped Yami lay him down on one of the couches and they vacated to the kitchen, making tea for the three of them.
The liquid soothed them to a limited point; all three of them were close to their bursting point. At one time Yami had left the room and hide in the bathroom when he felt as if he would burst, but he pulled through washing his face with warm water before he joined Joey and Seto again for more tea.
A knock on the door snapped them out of their silence and Seto dashed for the door being as quiet as he could as not to wake up Yugi and Bakura whom were still sleeping on the couch. Opening the door Seto smiled at his two friends. A good looking young English man, broad shouldered, dark haired, and well dressed smiled at him, the two of them embraced briefly before Seto turned to the woman, Egyptian and English she held the shocking beauty that even Ishizu could not behold. Deep green eyes stared at him, enhanced by her simple green tank top, hugging her briefly he showed them into the house.
He helped them set their things up quickly in their bedroom before leading them down to the kitchen where Joey and Yami sat at the breakfast bar, Yami staring absently at the floor, and Joey swishing his finger in the hot liquid. Royan, the woman, noticed Yami immediately, she recognized her own Egyptian heritage in him immediately, but most of all he looked shockingly like a man she had seen in one of the recent tombs she helped to uncover.
Joey glanced up as he heard them enter and smiled at them as best he could, “I take it that you're Royan and Nick,” the two nodded, “its nice to meet you, I'm Joey”.
Nick stepped forward and shook the blonde's hand, “it's a pleasure,” he said politely with a smile, his voice sounding more American than English.
Moving forward Royan briefly shook Joey's hand before moving over to Yami, without a word she placed a gentle hand upon his shoulder, he jumped briefly and nearly dropped his cup of tea. She smiled at him warmly once she saw the pain in his crimson eyes, “Royan Quenton-Harper, you are Yami I presume,” she said gently.
He nodded regaining his composure, “yes, I'm sorry I am really out of it today,” he murmured before rubbing his eyes tiredly.
“I heard about what happened,” she murmured in ancient Egyptian, “I'm sorry, it must be hard on you”.
“Its hard on all of us,” he replied in the same language unknowingly, “some of us are just too scared to cry in front of others”. Realizing what he had just done Yami looked at her in shock, “how did you know that I could speak Egyptian”.
She chuckled, “I've heard about you, and I have seen your image in the last tomb that I excavated, I worked alongside Ishizu Ishtar,” she expounded, glade that she could continue to speak in this beautiful language with someone that knew it as well.
“So you know all about who I am, Ishizu obviously told you,” he said taking a sip of his tea, not yet noticing the shocked looks that the two of them were receiving from the others.
“I do, and I believe it, with all that I have been through, I can believe anything,” she chuckled in her warm but strong voice, “we are scaring Nick, Seto, and Joey”.
Blinking Yami glanced around at the others and blushed before scratching his cheek, extending his hand to Nick he forced a smile onto his lips, “hello, Yami Motou, you are Nick right”.
Nodding Nick took Yami's hand and shook it, “yep, the one and only,” he said with a small laugh, before glancing around them at the cups of tea, “I guess that it's past our tea time here huh”. Unexpectedly the group burst out laughing, when they were finished calming down the three friends glanced at each other surprised at how good it had felt to laugh. The weight returned to their shoulders and Seto went to make a new pot of tea.
“We have a lot to talk about Nick, we minus well start now while the others are asleep,” expounded Seto.
“Alright, down to business, it'll occupy us for the time being,” he said before sitting down at the breakfast bar beside Joey, Royan taking the spot beside Yami. Immediately Yami and Seto began to explain everything that had been transpiring, and all that they knew so far about their predicament. The process took longer, and was harder to pull through, than they thought it would be.
